CAMS Key Club
By Christopher Soo-Hoo
December was an eventful month for CAMS Key Club. We started off the month at Nakaoka’s Winter Wonderland and Tree Lighting Festival with Gardena Key Club where we helped to distribute ice skates and to make sure the children were playing safely in the snow area. The following weekend, we returned to Operation Christmas Child to prepare more shoebox gifts for the unfortunate children in third-world countries. The day after Christmas, we volunteered at the Operation Jack Marathon where we passed out water and snacks at the finish line and the half way point of the marathon, passed out medals to the finishers, and cleaned up the area when the event was over. Finally, we spent the last two days of the 2015 year decorating the rose floats alongside the rest of the division. CAMS Key Club had a great year, and after closing it out, we are looking forward to what the next year will bring us!

Da Vinci Science
By Christian Cisneros
The month of December was a very exciting and fun-filled month for Da Vinci Science Key Club! On December 19th, right before the December Division Council Meeting, Da Vinci volunteered at Richstone Family Center’s Christmas Breakfast Celebration! The Christmas Celebration is held to provide children with fun activities, games, breakfast, and presents from Santa Claus, so it was very exciting to be able to participate for the first time. Da Vinci held a booth where members taught children how to make candy cane ornaments out of pipe cleaners and beads, and we also gave children the option of either decorating a Santa Claus or Snowman ornament with stickers and string. Da Vinci had an amazing and unforgettable experience volunteering, and it was amazing to see the members interact with the children and contributing to the cheerful holiday spirit. After the event, Da Vinci went to the December Division Potluck, and our very own Catherine Roman earned member of the month! Go Catherine! Da Vinci had a lot of fun socializing with the other Pirate Penguins and meeting new members, which brightened our day even more after the Richstone event. Then, on December 30th and 31st (New Year’s Eve!), members were hard at work decorating the Kiwanis, Trader Joe's, and many other floats in Pasadena in preparation for the Tournament of Roses Parade! Division 19 North Pirate Penguins helped prepare and paste fresh flowers onto the floats, clean up, and complete various other tasks assigned by the Kiwanis and Rose Float supervisors and representatives. Despite the freezing temperatures, the members had an amazing time, and they were very happy to see all of their hard work on television the morning of January 1st. While the beginning of the month was difficult, Da Vinci truly embraced the holiday spirit and ended the month in service, and we are ready for the month of January!

El Segundo December was a very active month for El Segundo! We began the month by volunteering at our town's Christmas Tree Lightning where we helped children make crafts such as snowflakes, candy canes, and reindeers using pipe cleaners, beads, and candy canes. Then, we cleared pit invasive plant species such as Russian thistles to eventually restore the area for native species at a LAX Adopt-a-Dune event. At our monthly DCM, we had an above average number of attendants, which was a wonderful way end a great year of Key Club and bond with fellow clubs. We also enjoyed the opportunity to participate in the annual decoration of floats for the Rose Bowl Parade. I was honored to have the privilege of decorating the emblem on the first float, and other members worked on the Trader Joe’s float where we glued on flowers on all parts of the floats including the tops, using scaffolds, and filled the bushes on the bottom of the float with roses.

Happy New Year key clubbers! The year of 2016 has officially started which calls for a perfect time where we reflect on the last accomplishments of the year - the month of December. Winter; the season with a lot of Christmas themed events that kept us warm filled with spirit and service. Beginning with 186th Elementary, Family Craft Night was an experience that boosted our positive energy. Our key clubbers assisted with the holiday filled fun art and crafts for students and parents, while the others worked together in the booths- selling snacks and drinks. During that event, there was a delicious mexican concoction that was being served, also known as Ponche Navide単o. It is a christmas punch that contains different blends of spices like cinnamon and chopped up fruits like pears. An eye opening and tasty experience. Over at the Nakaoka Center, there was a Gift Wrapping event to wrap toys and various items to be later given out for families in need. Personally, I had no knowledge whatsoever about wrapping presents, so I thought this day was going to be a challenge. However, by the end of this event, it turned a novice like me into a professional gift wrapper. There was also an event where Santa visited the community center and spent breakfast with the parents and children. We were in charge of setting and cleaning up the area. The Christmas Craft Fair was also held at the Nakaoka Center where most of us were put in different booths, assisting the vendors. During this month, our highlight division event was preparing the floats for the Rose Float Parade. Over there, we glued colorful and various flowers, went on top of the floats which was such an amazing ride. Thanks to all of my key clubbers who continued to bring out their best efforts within the community and as another year has gone by, we will still continue to serve others.

Hawthorne Key Club This past month for Hawthorne key club, the entire club was filled with Christmas spirit. The members were lively and excited for the potluck that we organized during the second week of December. The first week was solely in preparation for the potluck. The potluck was magnificent with members brining pizza, candy, sweets, soda, etc. To make the potluck more interesting we collaborated with our counterpart community service club “Knights and Dinaconians/Interact.” We decided to host a dodgeball tournament after the potluck. In which all clubs on campus could participate in. The two key club teams participating in the tournament made it to the last round and it ended up being key club vs key club for the dodgeball championship. I was an exciting day, fun filled and we had plenty of food. That following Saturday three members including myself helped in a SRLA (Students run Los Angeles Marathon) event. We spent the morning cleaning, cutting fruit, playing music, and all around cheering on the runners. The runners were having what they called a lapathon on the Hawthorne track and trying to raise money for their organization. We were glad to help with their event. We sent ten members to the rose float event. My members told me the event was great! “Despite the 40 degree weather” they joking told me. They spent their time cutting sunflowers and other flowers for the rose floats. The club was separated into groups some painted the floats, while others cut flowers. They still had time to collaborate and synergize with other Key Clubbers. Our final event this past month was yesterday. We hosted an ice skating fundraiser at the Toyota center. It was great to see the members to start of the New Year and we made around $710. While getting to enjoy time together as a club skating on the ice.

HMSA Key Club
The month of December was soothing month for the club of HMSA. After a month of hype from Fall Rally and other activities, HMSA students and Key Club members were ready to enter winter break. However, there were still some volunteering activities the club held. We were gladly able to volunteer at yet another art show that took place in our area. Members helped set up an event that would help the local scene of street artists, all while donating canned foods to help people in the holidays. Many members enjoyed this event as they were able to help while discovering a brand new realm of art. The club was even more set for the December DCM. After asking members how their experience was, many enjoyed the food, and ice breakers, and simply meeting new people. They hope to have more DCM experiences like this one. However, now that the new year is in, HMSA Key Club has so much more to offer the members and our division. The club is gladly planning many more things for the future. By Ricardo Almazan

King Drew Key Club
For the month of December, because of finals we had troubles organizing events, however that does not mean that we did not find anything. We had a beach clean up this time at Dockweiler Beach in support of a cleaner and safer environment both for the people and the wildlife. Some of King Drew also attended the DCM held at Polliwog Park in Manhattan Beach. Also, more importantly, the Rose Bowl Parade! King/Drew volunteered along with many other Key Clubbers to help decorate( among other things) floats for the Rose Bowl Parade.

Lawndale Key Club
As 2015 comes to a close, Lawndale Key Club members ended the year by decorating Rose Floats with the rest of Division 19 North. Although it was a lengthy and productive two-day event, our members thoroughly enjoyed the experience and can’t wait for next year! At our school, there was also a blanket/coat drive that was a competition amongst clubs. The materials donated were given to the homeless over the winter holidays. Looking back on the year, Lawndale has grown very much as a club due to the strong communication within the board and the growing interaction between the board and our members. With many improvements in place, we were very proud to grow from an easily forgettable school of the Division to being Club of the Month during December’s DCM! We hope to end the term strong and have an equally – if not better – board to replace us. By Vivian Nguyen

Leuzinger Key Club The month of January was fun and exciting for Leuzinger Key Club as we participated in multiple different activities. In the beginning of the month, 10 key club members travel to the Hawthorne Community Center during our lunch break to help prepare food and serve senior citizens at the annual Hawthorne Community Senior Luncheon. Later in the month, we volunteered at Anderson Elementary which lasted for two days to help the PTA organize and prepare baskets filled with donated goods such as canned goods in order to distribute them the to the distinct families. Also, during the month of December, Leuzinger High School organized an event called Club Olympics where different clubs from Leuzinger joined and competed against each other in friendly games; we recruited members to participate to have fun being united as a team and enjoy the games. Members who attended the December DCM enjoyed and had fun getting to know other key clubbers from different schools and participating in the icebreakers that were played. Lastly, at the end of the month some members participated in helping prepare the rose parade floats. December was a month of joining together as a family and having fun. By Diana Nguyen

Leo Tafoya As CAMS Key Club waddles into the New Year, Leo Tafoya proved that the holidays' slump couldn't slow him down! With a continuous bright smile and love for service, this penguin inspires us all. Even though he's new to key club, you would never be able to tell: his energy and passion is contagious! Throughout these few months, I've seen him grow from shy and awkward to outgoing and awkwardly friendly. In spite of struggles, he pushes himself to go to every event he can- marathons, DCM's, gardening- he does them all. At events, he's always eager to help, and never takes a moment of break. He truly goes above and BEEyond, a true Guardian of Service. I know that with members like Leo, key club is in good hands.

Amanda Galley The member of the month for the month of December is Amanda Galley. We are proud to present Amanda as our DVS Member of the Month because she has shown so much passion and dedication toward Key Club and we are finally able to acknowledge it. Amanda has been attending Key Club events both school and divisional events ever since she signed up for key club in the beginning of the year. Even after attending Fall Rally she held on to her dedication and passion for Key Club and continued to show up to Division Council Meetings and even the Rose Float Volunteering event. She is one of our strongest members and as a board we are positive she will make an amazing impact on Da Vinci’s Key Club.

Cedrick Virata Hey penguins as the New year has began the service doesn't stop for Cedrick Virata. Cedrick is a very enthusiastic key clubber whom never fails to exceed his given job at any event he attends. He is always asking if help is needed and publicizes Key Club in such a positive way. Whenever a nice picture is captured with Cedrick in it he posts it to social media with a gratifying caption expressing his love for Key Club! I believe that Cedrick has the potential to become a board member perhaps this year. Being a sophomore he has so much ahead of him as member and we wish the best year for him as he serves the community with a smile. Congrats Cedrick you deserve the recognition for all the hard work you have contributed to our club!

Camilla Valdez This month the member that really stood out was Camila Valdez. Camila goes above and beyond for key Club and is always very enthusiastic and spirited. This month Rolando participated in Artifesto, a community art show which donates to help children in the surrounding community. Camila has been a big help when it comes to member recruitment. She encourages everyone she meets to join Key Club and is very friendly and helpful with freshmen and new members. Camila is an example of what it looks like to love service and serving your community. Camila is an exemplary member and she really works hard to make sure our members feel comfortable and included. We had to give him a shout out this month! She deserves a huge thank you for all she has done for the club.
