What if vampires actually exist? What if the legend of Dracula actually happened? 1

Why did you choose to adapt Dracula for the stage? Choosing to do Dracula was actually a pretty straightforward decision! We all knew that we wanted to tackle the ‘horror genre’ for our next piece of work – the endless possibilities for comedy within this was really exciting for us. We narrowed down the selection to a few titles (Dracula, Frankenstein, The Invisible Man, Macbeth and The Hunchback of Notre Dame) and we filmed a really quick 60 second clip of us just improvising some ideas for each one and put them up on our social media accounts. We used the public’s responses to help inform us which title we should go for. Dracula was the overwhelming favourite and we already had loads of ideas milling around in our heads. We always like to please our audiences!
Why make it a comedy? We all studied clowning together at university and the module struck a chord with us. Making accessible work has been at the centre of our ethos right from the very beginning and comedy is the perfect genre to do this, especially physical comedy as it has universal appeal. The main reason we do what we do is that we simply love to make people laugh. Everyone should be able to enjoy theatre and that is exactly what we hope to achieve so taking well known stories and turning them on their head with a comedic twist is the perfect way to do this. Whether you’re a seasoned Le Navet Bete fan or are brand new to our work we really hope you can make the showit’ll be unlike any other Dracula you have seen before!

a hidden past to the gloomy, forbidding Thornfield Hall, a terrible secret that forces her to make a heart-wrenching choice.

Kelsey Short talks about her portrayal of Jane Eyre What’s your take on the character of Jane and how do you approach such an iconic role? I believe I have a lot of similar qualities to Jane, and although of a different time, much of what she says of her experiences resonates with me as a result of my own life experiences. The challenges she faces are so relevant today, and so for me, portraying her on stage is about understanding her. She’s a strong, independent woman who is struggling with her insecurities and a need to be loved. For me that’s the basis from which I can explore the character further.
What do you love most about bringing a piece like Jane Eyre to the stage? I love the fact that she is a woman all people - young and old – are likely to know about or at least have heard of. It’s a timeless story and will always be relatable. I also love that it isn’t your stereotypical love story. For me the Gothic element is such a pivotal factor in the story and will help make this a unique piece of theatre.

Originally Commissioned By New Diorama Theatre. Co-produced by New Theatre Royal Portsmouth, Brighton Festival, HOME Manchester and Nuffield Southampton Theatres
Inspired by H.G. Wells’ sci-fi novel and Orson Welles’ classic radio play, this legendary science fiction thriller is playfully reimagined for our era of Fake News and ‘alternative facts’.

How would you describe this production of The War of the Worlds? Our version of The War of the Worlds is a multi-layered and slippery tale about the seductive powers of a good story and the ethical dilemmas involved with telling it! Sci-fi meeting family drama, it weaves facts and fiction into a cracking story about an alien invasion and the repercussions of being hoodwinked and doing the hoodwinking. Why did you feel it was important to adapt for the stage? The story of a precocious 22 year old Orson Welles creating a terrifying radio broadcast that ‘fooled a nation’ felt like the precursor and perfect metaphor for our 24-hour, fake news-infested, disinformationfilled environment. Besides, who doesn’t love a good alien invasion story?
How are you feeling about this new tour? Very, VERY excited. Theatre is nothing without an audience and the whole point of our work is to share something exciting and entertaining and thought-provoking with audiences. Hopefully especially the entertaining part! We are a touring theatre company, so we can’t wait to get out on the road and perform The War of the Worlds to as many people as possible and we are particularly excited about presenting it here, in this gorgeous Matcham theatre. What is coming next for Rhum and Clay? After this UK tour we are taking The War of the Worlds over to the US, to tour the west coast of America in the lead- up to the next presidential election. Given the themes of the show, this feels thrilling. Besides that, we have been getting back into the rehearsal room to play around with new ideas and new collaborators, generating ideas for our next show in 2021.... watch this space!

Offenbach’s uproarious take on the legend pits Orpheus against Eurydice.
A N N ER 20
He is a musician, she hates his music, and both are having affairs. When she dies from a snake-bite, he is delighted, but Public Opinion dictates that he must at least feign grief and go to the Underworld to retrieve her. Eurydice, however, has other ideas… Featuring the famous can-can, which later became notorious at the Moulin Rouge, Offenbach’s catchy tunes and sparkling orchestration will surely send you away with a smile!
