SUMMER SCHOOL

RECGRIESDTIRTATCIOOUN RISNEFSO Summer School is an opportunity for students to free up room in their timetables for other courses or to upgrade marks for post-secondary. Our high school credit courses are open to both high school and mature students. Students entering Grade 10 in September 2018 are eligible to enroll in Physical Education (PE10), Career and Life Management (CALM) Extreme CALM/PE10, and - new this summer - Extreme CTS: Film Production. Credit Course Fees

Diploma Exams

All activity fees and registration deposits are due at the time of registration. Registration forms can be found on our website under "Program Info". Next Step Continuing Education reserves the right to cancel any class due to low enrollment or unexpected circumstances. A full refund will be issued if Next Step Continuing Education cancels the class.

Students registered in a summer diploma exam credit course through Next Step Continuing Education will write a diploma exam in August at Salisbury Composite High School. If this is not your first time writing a diploma exam for that course, you are required to submit a Diploma Exam Rewrite form together with a $25 + GST rewrite fee directly to Alberta Education.

! R E M M U S S I H T W NE Extreme CTS: Film Production (4 credits) If you enjoy making short films and want to earn unique high school credits, this is the course for you! Extreme Film Production provides an introduction to the art and history of cinema with a focus on the roles and responsibilities on a film set. Students will create short films for the course as well as their own film portfolio. Experience the filmmaking process from the conception of the idea through to storyboarding, scripting, shooting and editing. NOTE: No pre-requisites; open to students entering Grades 10-12 in September 2018.

Monty Drozda, Film Teacher Monty Drozda has taught Film Production, Television Broadcasting and Film Analysis at colleges and schools for 15 years. He is the facilitator of the Sherwood Park HAWK FILM FESTIVAL held at Cineplex each year in April. The work he has done and is doing in the film community -- as a grip, an extra and a teacher -- has come full circle as his former students are now actively working in the industry. Mr. Drozda is excited to be teaching Extreme CTS: Film Production once again and looks forward to seeing the great work the students produce.

EXTREME CALM/PE10 This program provides activities that will enhance curriculum objectives for PE 10, CALM and CTS credits utilizing outdoor education as the medium for learning. Staying four nights at Strathcona Wilderness Centre (SWC) during the second week, students will participate in wilderness living skills, canoeing, orienteering, outdoor fitness activities and a variety of team building and leadership development activities. Don't miss out on this hands-on learning experience!

NEW Virtual Reality: The Future is Now

Develop a game concept that goes beyond the limitations of the traditional 2D game design. Learn the physics behind 3D games, explore beginner event scripting, level design, controlling flow of gameplay and story telling. Students will work with others of similar age in pairs or teams for part of the program.

Embark on an EPIC adventure in virtual reality! In this cutting edge class, you will learn the foundations of VR design by creating your own virtual worlds, exploring simulated environments, and crafting memorable 3D experiences. At the end of the week, take home your cardboard VR headset to show friends and family the new worlds you created. VR projects can be viewed on a website or a mobile device. Students will work in pairs or teams and VR projects will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. NOTE: Students do not need a mobile device to take the class, but to use the VR headset a camper will need access to an Android or Apple mobile device.

EXTREME Babysitting Looking to get your Red Cross Babysitter Certificate? Check out this fun and expanded version of the usual babysitting course. You won't find another babysitting camp like this! The first two days will cover the Red Cross Babysitter Certificate program in the morning. The afternoons will be filled with fun as you explore different games and projects to use when babysitting. On the third day you will gain hands-on experience in the kitchen, learning basic skills while making tasty, easy meals you can prepare for your babysitting clients!

Do you want to learn the game of basketball, brush up on your skills or feel more confident trying out your school basketball team? Individual skills, teamwork, and an introduction to offensive and defensive team strategies will be emphasized in this co-ed camp.

Are you looking for an introduction to the game of volleyball? Basic skills such as serving (underhand and overhand), forearm passing and overhead passing (setting) will be emphasized in this co-ed camp. An introduction to court positioning, backcourt defense, blocking and attack skills plus offensive and defensive team strategies will also be covered.
