Breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer in the world today, accounting for one in ten of all new cancers diagnosed worldwide. Nearly one of every four female cancer patients sufferers from it. As the most common cancer in women from both developed and developing areas, it is the principal cause of death among females globally. Though far less common than in women it is also possible for men to develop breast cancer. As such, it accounts for approximately 1% of all breast cancer cases.

Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of Thailand ศิลป์แผ่นดิน2 On her royal visits to people throughout the Kingdom, Her Majesty the Queen observe fine traditional artwork and crafts created by Thai farmers. As she once remarked: “I am very proud of our people. The Thais are natural artists, no matter who they are or where they are living, whether they are farmers or other professionals. Thais are also sensitive people with an artistic sense that enable them to swiftly absorb and develop creative

skills.” (Excerpts from Her Majesty the Queen’s birthday anniversary speech on August 11, 1989 at Dusidalai Pavilion, Chitralada Villa.) Such a conviction gave rise to Her Majesty’s command to have the SUPPORT Foundation of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of Thailand established in 1976, with its primary aim to promote local arts and crafts to help provide supplementary incomes for underprivileged families, who would continue their main occupation as farmers, while at the same time preserving traditional arts which were I danger of becoming lost.

Two years later in 1978, Her Majesty had the SUPPORT Training Centers set up with the compound of the Chitralada Villa, providing opportunities for members of impoverished farm families to be trained in various artworks. First set up in small tents beside the Office of Her Majesty’s Private Secretary within the compound of the Chitralada Villa, the Training Center has grown to become a permanent training center in its own premises. The Center has several major artwork divisions: among them gold and silver nielloware, damascene inlay, gold and silverware, enamel, Yan Lipao basketry, woodcarving, beetle wing decoration, embroidery, and weaving. For more than 30 years since its establishment, the SUPPORT Training Center has produced numerous fine works in

over 23 types of traditional arts and crafts. In doing so, it helped develop many of its artisans of Rattanakosin, all the while adhering to Her Masjesty the Queen’s wishes to improve the lives of the Thai people, while also conserving the nation’s fine traditional arts and crafts. On 21 September 2010, the Training Center at Chitrada Villa was upgraded to be the “Sirikit Institute” for the auspicious occasion of Her Masjesty Queen Sirikit’s 80th Birthday Anniversary. As evident from the works presented at the Arts of the Kingdom museum, the artisans from the Sirikit Institute produce masterpieces of Thai arts and crafts of the highest quality, recognized worldwide. All this was born from the vision and benevolence of Their Majesties the King and Queen, who have ceaselessly championed Thai arts and crafts as treasures of the Kingdom and its people.

This embroidered screen is a fine example of the ancient Thai embroidery technique called “pak soy” where the finest silk threads are used in an overlapping stitch that plays up the shading of colour hues and light for a realistic effect.

Gold Niello Screen With Scenes from “Ramakien” The gold niello screen on the theme of “Ramakien”, or Ramayana, comprises three separate screens, each displaying a different scene. The most important is the Garden Scene focusing on Ravana’s procession and his troops arriving at the garden of the Lady Sita. Ravana is seen courting the Lady Sita, with images of the magnificent palace made of gilded embossed silver in the background. The stunning image of Ravana’s chariot in the procession literally stands out and attracts the eye.

Wanares Bovorn Asana The Kong Throne is a small throne named after the shape of the curved arm-rest which connects to the back rest. Because of its small size and light weight, it is used both as a royal throne and as a palanquin as the occasion requires.

Model of the Mongkol Suban Royal Barge The model of the Mongkol Suban Royal Barge was a joint work of art by the artisans from the Gold and Silver Department, the Wood Carving Department, the Enamel Department and the Beetle Wing Collage Department of Sirikit Institute. It was based on the original Mongkol Suban Royal Barge of the third reign. The bow was carved in the shape of a Garuda holding a naga in his talons. Later, to enhance its prestige, King Rama IV commissioned an image of Vishnu astride Garuda, Garuda being the vehicle of Vishnu according to Brahmin belief. This Royal Barge was renamed the Narai Song Suban Royal Barge.

National Discovery Museum Institute (NDMI) The Museum of Siam operated by National Discovery Museum Institute (NDMI) is a special unit under the Office of the Knowledge Management and Development. It was established on 18 June 2005 to manage the construction of an avant-garde learning environment that truly enhances creativity; to promote, support and cooperate with local museum partners in order to provide knowledge to the general public; and to promote and create the appropriate museum knowledge for Thai society by establishing quality and standards of efficiency in the learning process in Thailand. Museum of Siam is the first national discovery museum and a new age museum for todayâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s learning generation. It aims to provide a fresh, living museum experience by encouraging visitors to think and making them curious to learn and to question. Particularly, it focuses on the interaction between the exhibition and visitors since this will lead to endless new discoveries. The exhibition at Museum of Siam consists of 2 main parts:

The symbol of a human that looks like a frog represents the “Museum of Siam”. The Museum is now featuring the “Human” story with the aim of providing knowledge and information about the roots of our ancestors - the local people of South East Asia in ancient times. These people mixed in races, societies, and cultures, and gradually formed the cities and transformed them into the regions, then the empires and the countries that we know today. Museum of Siam is located in the Tha Tien area (formerly known as Ministry of Commerce) adjacent to Pho Temple on Sa Nam Chai Road as part of the inner Rattanakosin Island where is known as the city of living heritage and the centre of the Thai’s soul. The reasons for selecting this area is to connect the image of the past to communicate the future of Thai. The Museum covers an area of 7 Rai and consists of 4 main buildings. • The Permanent Exhibition Building or Museum of Siam Building, formerly the Ministry of Commerce Building, was built during the reign of King Rama VI in neo-classic style. Preserved and developed by NDMI, this newly renovated historic 3,000 metres square building is now featuring a permanent exhibition called “The Accounts of Thailand” and interesting museum souvenir shops. • The Temporary Exhibitions and Special Activities Building including café shop and restaurant. There will also be temporary exhibitions which present themed exhibitions structured around important issues in history, race, intelligence and many more to maintain the visitor’s interest and excitement. • The Exhibitions and Archaeological Excavations Workshop Building • The Office of Museum of Siam Building comprises a large area that promotes learning for pleasure such as the Knowledge Centre, Meeting Rooms, Theatre and Activity Rooms for young children. The Museum of Siam also gathers historical research/data and employs a systematic information classification for easy research and compilation. Koh Chang If we talk about the seas in western Thailand, Koh Chang Island is one of the most popular attractions for sea lovers. Koh Chang Island has a complete ecosystem and tourists can visit here all year round. There are several attractive places around the island such as White Sand Beach (Sai Kao Beach) offering fine and soft sand perfect for relaxing. There is something for all tourists; stylish resorts, great restaurants, and chic bars. Not far from Koh Chang Island is Klong Prao Beach is one of the best places for water activities because it is such a long beach without a slope or strong waves. This is also a viewpoint for watching the beautiful sunsets. There are other beaches and bays which are quite popular such as Kai Bae Beach, Klong Son Bay and Sapparod Bay (Pineapple Bay) Koh Chang (Elephant Island) is Thailand’s second largest island and the primary destination for those visiting Koh Chang Marine National Park, which includes dozens of unspoiled islands. Located in Trat Province, about 300 kilometers east of Bangkok and not far from the Cambodian border, Koh Chang is 70% covered by unspoiled rainforest and the island’s permanent residents are only gradually becoming more involved in tourism as development has increased in the past decade. Now serviced by an airport just 15 minutes from the ferry terminal in Trat, Koh Chang is more easily accessible than ever before. Drawn to Koh Chang’s pristine beaches and sparkling water, more well-to-do Thai and international travelers have been discovering Koh Chang and numerous luxury spas and resorts have sprung up to cater to them. Nonetheless, the island is still a dream destination for budget travelers and families, with a wide variety of affordable accommodation options and numerous gorgeous and tranquil beaches surrounded by crystal clear water. In addition to natural beauty, the island is also home to a wide range of wildlife, including native birds, snakes, deer, and even a number of elephants. As for activities, Koh Chang and the nearby islands that make up the national park are great for snorkeling, diving, camping, and jungle hiking. The majority of tourists stay at Hat Sai Khao, Hat Kai Muk, Hat Ta Nam, and Laem Bang Bao, all of which are linked by a single road running down the west coast.

KOH CHANG ACTIVITIES Dolphin Divers

The waters of the island offer a variety of dive sites

ranging from depths of 5 metres to 43, and are abundant with Leather, Tree Soft and Whip coral formations, as well as Spiny Gorgonians and Gorgonian Fan coral. Expect to come up, close and personal with reef sharks, leatherback turtles, great barracudas, clown fish, porpoises, batfish, angelfish, fusiliers, cardinal fish, groupers, and more. Between the months of April and May, the majestic whale shark is also a possibility too. Their top trip is to the newest dive site, formed when the HTMS Chang, formerly the USS Lincoln County, was scuttled to form an artificial reef in 2012. A tank landing ship, it was launched in on November 25, 1944, and saw action in World War II, the Korean War, as part of the 7th Fleet; she was decommissioned in 1961 before being handed over to the Thai government the next year under the Military Assistance Programme. Now the countryâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s longest wreck at 100 metres, her bottom sits on the sand at 30 metres, and has three main decks, troop cabins, briefing rooms, the engine room, and plenty of corridors to explore.

Treetop Adventure Park If base-jumping or skydiving is not for you, ziplining is a safer alternative that delivers the same adrenalin rush. So strap on your helmet and harness and glide through the islandâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s thick forest cover in this part joyride, part eco-adventure. From their base shack near the Bai Lan beach, Treetop Adventure has created a rope rollercoaster that spans a hectare of lush tropical rainforest. Zipliners fly 20 metres above the ground high in the jungle canopy, moving from tree to tree, and from platform to another using an assortment of aids such as tarzan swings, rope bridges, giant ziplines, flying skateboards and bicycles. The company has been running it since 2007 and also has similar operations in Pattaya and Krabi. All equipment used has passed international safety standards tests. No better way for groups, couples or families with older children to spend the morning, skimming through the trees.

Elephant Treking Explore the beauty of Koh Chang by elephant treking is the most exciting and memorable experience. A must for every visitors. Wow it’s quite a ride getting here even with Ban Kwan Chang’s Land Rover. Ban Kwan Chang Koh Chang Elephant rides are literally situated in the heart of the jungle. Apon arrival you can see that this is a true working elephant camp with many of the villagers taking care of their daily chores. Even though the surroundings are rudimentary every elephant ride passenger is treated to service that makes you feel very welcome. I loved it ! As you can imagine a Koh Chang Elephant Trek is fantastic. They take you through lush green jungles, pass tall trees, exotic flowers and along crystal clear rivers. As a finale they offer each passenger a chance to bath elephants at their favorite watering hole.

Kayaking

Explore the beauty of the coastline is fun by canoeing or kayaking. Experience is not necessary but an advantage. Watch Fireflies on a Gondola Hidden behind mountains through a narrow channel is a fishermen’s village located on a large bend in the waterway. It is surrounded by a mangrove forest which is a nursery of fish and other marine life, as well as the local fishery. There are no white sandy beaches; however, there are fresh green waters and plant life unique to the mangrove forest. Tourists can experience the old ways of the fishermen preserved by the locals by using a kayak or a traditional Thai boat called “Ruea Mat” or also known as the Ko Chang gondola. If you come in the evening not only do you get to be close to nature, you can also have dinner during the setting sun. Especially beautiful is the opening to the Salak Khok Bay where there is a sand dune. Even though by just looking you can tell that the sand is quite coarse; however, it is the meeting point between the sea and Salak Khok Bay. After the romantic boat trip, wait for the sun to fully set. You will then see a large amount of fireflies slowly appearing before you. Also, the children of the village will put on a show about the local culture for tourists.

Fishing Fishing is a relaxing activity to do on your holiday in Trat and Koh Chang as they lie on a prolific marine resource. There are both day and night fishing trips. Squid fishing is also a popular activity if ones would like to explore and experience the nocturnal fishing. You can bring your own fishing gear and tackle or buy it from the mainland. Hiking In the verdant mountain of Koh Chang, hiking allows you to explore the lush and flora and fauna existing on the island. In the west of Koh Chang, there is a hiking route on the main road, from Klong Son to Kai Bae. In the north of the island, you can walk from Ban Klong Son to White Sand Beach. Short hikes to waterfalls are also popular. The best hiking tracks is in the south of the island as there are fewer roads. More strenuous and adventurous hikes in the inland to the steep and forested hills can also be done. There is also 5-6 hours hike through the forest to the peak Chom Prasat at 626 metres above sea level starting at White Sand Beach. Overnight jungle trek is also available. Hiring a guide is recommended for a long hike in the inner land.

Golf Course

Play is on beautifully landscaped fairways and between the islands as it is located within a lagoon. The signature hole is where one tees off from one island towards a green on another island. The scenic course can also be played in different directions so that players can play 18 holes in the same day. The direction reverses daily at lunchtime. Named after two nearby beaches, the well-maintained course, playing 554 yards on the Chang Noi nine and 571 on the Half Moon nine, is well-suited for beginners but the numerous water hazards also affords more experienced golfers an excellent opportunity to practice their short game. THe Buddha View Restaurant Three Belgian friends took over a sprawling Thai restaurant and refurbished it to transform it into an upscale eatery with great service. Perched on stilts above the water, the interior is stylish with outstanding panoramic views of the bay and stunning sunsets if you get here early in the evening. The most popular dining space is the one with two large glass-topped tables fitted over rectangles cut into the decking below; at low tide the Khmer mermaid sculptures placed there are visible. Sip their to-die-for strawberry margaritas to sound of Buddha beats, while you peruse the eclectic menu that embraces traditional Thai and top-quality European cuisine. Ka-Ti Culinary Restaurant This family-run restaurant and cooking school in the Klong Prao village has built a huge fan base ever since it opened in 2005. The dĂŠcor is elegant but most come here for the food, which is prepared from scratch. Curry pastes are made in house, and everything is cooked a la minute. This translates into long waits but ones that are well worth it. Seafood, chicken, beef, pork, tofu and vegetables are the stars of the simple menu with brief descriptions for newbies. Expect the usual suspects like the traditional red, yellow and green curries, plus the spicy jungle curry and a few signatures such as fried snapper with three flavour sauce and fried snapper in tamarind. Spice levels can be tempered to suit preferences, or you can quench the fire with their range excellent and unique smoothies. Finish on a sweet note with their homemade ice creams made from local fruits. Groups and families will enjoy the bustling ambience and can sign for a cooking class the next day.

Cocktail lounge South Kai Bae is where Filou Lounge & Bar is. Open air with a tropical island vibe, it has a great cocktail list with many being served in hollowed out pineapples. Interesting live acts that have included a didgeridoo band draw in the crowds on special nights. Mojito Lounge in the heart of Kai Bae village is a funky Thai-Western cocktail and music lounge bar. Give the name, they also lay claim to serving up the best mojito on the island and few will contradict that. Early evening sees a chilled-out atmosphere with the vibe ramped up late night as DJs from Bangkok and around the world working the dancefloor with a mix of house, hip hop and other musical genres. Also on offer is a pool table, shishas and a cabaret show.
