Shotgun Execution
Man dies in gun attack by his Wife’s Uncle. Ibicenco man turns himself and shotgun in to Police. Family property dispute thought to be cause. Reports of three shots fired, first to back and last ‘execution’ round to the temple.
At 4pm Monday a 65 year old local man waited by an isolated country path in the Sant Jordi area for the arrival of his 35 year old Dutch nephew-in-law. The fatal encounter took place at a warehouse owned by the older man. Reports in various local media sources talk of a discussion followed by shots fired. The shotgun was fired three times, first be-
lieved to be in the back, then the chest and finally in an execution shot to the temple. If, as is suspected, the Shotgun was of the type typically owned by older generation Ibicenco farmers it would have required him to empty the barrels and reload for the third shot. This has resulted in much opinion that the killing was not one of a heated exchange getting

Nicole Torres Julio Barea, responsible for Greenpeace’s campaigns in Spain announced that their flagship, Rainbow Warrior III, will be docking at the Port of Ibiza between the 11th and 13th of June, and will then move to Palma de Mallorca until the 15th, with the objective of campaigning against Oil/Petrol surveys in the Balearics, Canary Islands and the Artic Pole. Greenpeace will give a news conference and will be accompanied by media personalities to support their campaigning. They will also have an open doors day on the boat where you will be able to get information about Greenpeace and their activities first hand. Barea (Continued from page 1)

The older man is said to have left the crime scene giving his weapon to a friend to take to the police and later turning himself in. As police started their investigation and cordoned off the
pointed out that they want to come to Ibiza to give our antipetrol survey campaign maximum broadcasting and to claim that it’s possible to have energetic independence from hydrocarbons. This announcement was given last Thursday during an Alianza Mar Blava assembly in Ibiza Town. The Alianza Mar Blava also explained the efforts and work they are doing to stop the Oil surveys and announced their calendar of future activities. On the 7th of June, to coincide with the World Environment Day, the day will be destined to children, so they can also expresses their opposition, and on the 28th of June a Global Day of Action has been set up in which
industrial actions will be coordinated with other anti-petrol survey platforms. Apart from these more social diffusion, the Alianza Mar Blava continues their legal work, here at home and in Brussels, they are preparing a complaint to put forth to the European Union and are propelling a work group to favour the new energetic model in Ibiza. Carlos Bravo from the Alianza Mar Blava also told the press they are preparing a resource to put through to the Administrative Court in case the report on environmental impact, that the technicians from the Ministerio de Medio Ambiente are preparing, are positive for Cairn Energy.
crime scene, the older man, in his initial statements, suggest that the killing was the result of a family argument over property & inheritance. It appears that the bank was about to repossess the land and buildings where the shooting took place. The Nephew in law had made the older man an offer for the property on behalf of the rest of the family and was hoping
to discuss the situation that afternoon before the banks stepped in. . Spanish Economy to Grow 0.4% This Quarter Luis de Guindos, Spain’s Economy and Competitiveness Minister, has announced that the Spanish economy will grow by a further 0.4% during this second quarter of the year. De Guindos claims that the “signs regarding the immediate
Page 2
future of Spain are positive”, although his forecast is made with precaution and prudence. He did go on to say, however, that at least the same growth from the previous quarter would be repeated and left it at that. And, whilst the economic recovery in Europe is fragile and slow – even negative in some countries, in Spain “figures point to the fact that the Spanish economy is growing at a faster rate than the euro zone average. Report Crime in Less Time The Guardia Civil has launched a new service whereby victims of crime are able to fill out a crime report form, or ‘denuncia’, online and hand it into their nearest Police station. There are certain crimes excluded, and the scheme is conditional on the form being presented within 24 hours. The benefit to most people would be avoiding the need to wait in long queues during the summer months, often making a bad day even worse. The crimes that can be reported using the new online form are:• Lost or stolen documents or personal belongings • Any documents or possessions that have been found • Stolen cars • Thefts from cars or other vehicles • Non-violent theft and damage You can find the appropriate form by visiting the website : and click on the ‘Denuncias’ link, then the ‘Presentación de denuncias penales’ link. If your Spanish is not up to scratch you’ll need to find a friendly translator as the form is currently only in Spanish, and has to be completed in Spanish. www.guardiacivil.es
Private Plane Problem Disrupts Airport. This week a small private plane punctured its rear wheel tire as it was preparing for take off at Ibiza airport. The plane slewed sideways blocking the runway which took the emergency services an hour to clear. Several planes, including a London flight, were delayed or diverted to Palma. Winter Unemployment Increase. In the last five years the number of the residents living on Ibiza who depend on unemployment or other social benefits to get through the winter has increased by 17%. The total last December reached 16,324 residents needing this support out of a year round population of about 100,000. Costly Reservoir Still Not Used. The reservoir, constructed in the Sa Rota area of the borough of Santa Eulalia, is still not in use. Built in 2003 and costing 2,7 million €, it was designed for agricultural irrigation of 114 hectares. Seemingly the reservoir has not been used because it is suspected that, the water which will be used to fill the reservoir will be salinated and, though useful for irrigation, it will negatively affect the drinking water wells used to supply the town. The town reportedly already has sufficient problems with the quality of the drinking water and will not use the reservoir until the new desalination plant comes on line to reduce the necessity to use wells to supply drinking water to Santa Eulalia.

Ibiza News
will be a day long conference given by experts discussing how to promote Ibiza to this type of tourism and what more can be offered to the cruise tourists whilst they are here visiting the island. Some suggested that we need to improve the transport links from the port to the centre of Ibiza Town so that we can get the maximum economic benefits from these visits. Black Pigs Recognised As Special Breed. After visiting fifteen “Black Pigs” (porc negre de Formentera y de Eivissa) on a farm in Formentera, the Balearic Government Minister, Gabriel Company, said that they had sufficient
differences to make them distinct from other similar breeds of pigs found around the Baleares. He said that a law passed this month classed these “special” dark skinned pigs a breed of their own found only in Ibiza and Formentera.
Less Days Off Sick. The Baleares is the region of Spain where the workforce has less days off “on the sick”. The average on the islands is 29,21 days compared to 34,36 for Spain as a whole. One area of Spain, Lugo, reported figures of 58,58 days off because of sickness of the local workforce.
is an island wide law dictated by the Consell Island Government. Already there have been lots of enquiries about the process of legalization and Town Halls, such as Sant Josep, are expecting an “avalanche” of applications to legalize properties and Sant Josep has set up a special section to deal with the process.
Ibiza and Formentera Disenchanted With Europe. With a high level of those entitled to vote not appearing at the booths, the PP Conservatives won the most votes for the EU elections on Ibiza. They sustained a loss in support but still won by gaining 30% of the votes registered. The PSOE Socialists suffered similarly coming in second with 25% of the vote. Smaller parties managed to gain representation, in particular the “Podemos” party which is new on the political scene here and did particularly well in Ibiza Town. Political interpreters analyzed the results as a vote against the handling of the economic crisis by the two main parties as well as general apathy towards the EU.
Grounded Boats To Be An Eye Sore All Summer. The two remaining boats washed up on the Arenal Beach in San Antonio last winter during storms are set to stay where they are for the duration of the summer season. It appears that neither the relevant authorities or the owners are planning to salvage the vessels. As a response from businesses in the area worried about the danger these wrecks present to the general public and to the eyesore they create, the Town Hall is going to put up signs and take other measures to warn the tourists to keep away.
Thousands Of Properties Can Be Legalized From Today. Chalets, villas and other types of building, built illegally in rural areas of the island, can be legalized as of today as long as they have physically existed for eight or more years. The legalization process has to be carried out at Town Hall level though the law
Poor Quality Water. The residents associations in Playa den Bossa have jointly reported the Town Halls of Sant Josep and Ibiza Town to the consumers association because of the poor quality of the water supplies they receive. Not fit to drink and damaging to electrical appliances and piping etc, the consumers association are taking on the case for the affected neighbours as they believe the Politicians should assume their
share of the responsability for the bad water supply rather than, has apprently happened, brush aside the complaints of over four hundred residents and blame the water supply company “Aqualia” for the problem. Hopefully this will bring the residents a step closer to getting compensation for the damage the poor quality water has caused. More Ferry Connections To Formentera. Eleven more ferry routes will now connect Denia on the main land and la Savina in Formentera each week. Leaving Denia at 8,30am and the return voyage leaving Formentera at 9pm each day with extra midday sailings on Fridays and Sundays, these services will last until mid September. Illegal Publicity. The opposition Town Hall Councilors in Ibiza criticized the increase in the number of posters “illegally” displayed on properties around the town. Businesses advertising in this way can face 600€ fines but it appears that the actual Town Hall is also guilty of using this medium to announce events to the general public! Cruise Tourism Is Good. Last year Ibiza received 108 cruise liners bringing 191,814 tourists to the island for a short visit. It was calculated that each of these tourists spent an average of 100€ whilst here. With this in mind, on the 30th there
Parking Made Better In Formentera. Formentera Government Minister, Santi Juan, was happy to report that the Island Government had finished work on improving the parking behind the church in Sant Francesc and in an area known as “el Jardí de Ses Eres”. The parkings have both been made safer, better lighting installed and access for pedestrians improved. Santa Eulalia Stops Building Work At Water Park. The old “Aqualiandia” water park in the borough of Santa Eulalia was the focus of the attention of the Town Hall planners in Santa Eulalia this week. It appears that building work was underway at the site without the proper licenses in vigor. The authorities visited the site and ordered the work to stop within 48 hours ordering the promoters to apply for the correct licenses. Jelly Fish Numbers Increase. Large banks of Jelly Fish have been detected around the islands. It appears that the warmer than normal sea temperature (19º average) this spring has increased reproduction amongst these creatures. The authorities say that this is a normal phenomena and may not necessarily mean more jelly fish on our beaches this summer. The good news is that none of the dangerous “Portuguese Men Of War” (Physalia physalis) jelly fish have been detected this year. Successful Blood Donor Campaign. In a campaign lasting thirtythree days, residents on the island gave 1,335 blood donations. These are much needed as the
health authorities use an average of 200 transfusions a day. The Blood Donor bus will again be visiting all the towns in the next few days so please help the cause as each blood donation can save three lives!
Caught In The Act. Reports say that an American man was caught in the act of swopping drugs for money in Ibiza this week. The man was detained and found to have various quantities of ecstacy, cocaine and ketamin. In a separate action, the police detained an Italian man in the Figueretes area of the town. He was found to be carrying 6 kilograms of marijuana. Fight In Car Leads To Crash. Police said this week that the evidence pointed to a fight between a man and a woman in a car as leading to the car they were driving crashing into three parked cars at 7am in the morning in central Ibiza Town. Apparently as the car came to a stop, the woman jumped out and ran off with the man giving chase. The woman finally took refuge in a passing taxi whilst the taxi driver stopped the man from also trying to get in. When detained, both the man and woman showed signs of having more injuries than could have been caused from the car crash. The man was also found to be under the influence of drugs. Opening Party Crime Report. With several big opening parties taking place last weekend, police activity was intense particularly in the borough of Sant Josep. Police made fifteen detentions for drunk driving, nine detentions for drug offences, one detention for disobeying the police, twentytwo cars illegally parked were towed away and numerous complaints were received about noise levels. Over seventy traffic offences were detected, a ticket tout was detained for illegal propaganda activities whilst another man was arrested for possession of a self defence spray which is classed as an illegal weapon in Spain.

Fashion Britain’s latest fashion news Helen Adams Spring Summer Fashion Collaborations we can’t wait for…….. Kate Moss has once again turned her hand from modelling to designing in her latest collection for Topshop, and entwined one of her trends with her love for Ibiza! Debuting in this month's issue of British Vogue, the hotly anticipated range comprises four style stories: Balearic dressing, pyjama dressing, cocktail hour and tailoring noir - all of which, naturally, exude Moss's own brand of effortless cool. Moss first turned designer for the high-street store back in 2007, and her return is a welcome one, both with fans of the label and Topshop boss Philip Green alike. "I am personally thrilled that Kate wanted to come back to Topshop to work with us again. The first time around was such a lot of fun and she has been sorely missed," he said. "I have really missed being involved in the design process, and working with the team at Topshop," said Kate. "I am very excited to create a new collection that bears my name. Now more than ever, with London being at the forefront of fashion, as it feels like I'm back home working with Topshop."
We’ll be bringing London Catwalk style to Ibiza in June with a special fashion shoot with Ibizan vixen Amanda O’Riordan featuring the Kate Moss Top Shop collection.
And the good news is the full collection will be available online as well as in stores in the UK, websites we’ll be able to purchase the collection from here include topshop.com, Nordstrom.com and Net-a-porter.com from April 30th. Other collaborations announced this week include Balenciaga’s creative director, Alexander Wang for HandM, Pharrell Williams has been a busy boy collaborating with Adidas Originals and also designing a range for Japanese brand UNIQLO, Valentino for Brazilian super-brand Havaianas are already available in stores, Kanya West’s fashion labels designer Katie Eary has designed a collection for high street favourite River island and Flying the flag for Britain Vivienne Westwood has designed an accessories collection for internet giants ASOS. Jean Paul Gaultier Exhibition opens @ the Barbican, London He brought us one of the most iconic fragrances of the 90’s, costume designed for the blockbuster hit Fifth Element, and has lived and worked in over 8 of the biggest cities around the world, but London will always hold a special place in the designers heart. The designer moved to the UK capital during his teenage years to escape Paris’s snobby fashion and couture world. Speaking at the opening of his new exhibition on Monday night, he claims “I’ve always felt truly at home in London, I wanted this show to be homage to the good times I’ve had in here.” Gaultier’s work reads similarly to that of Punk Queen, and arguably creator, Vivienna Westwood. Taking inspiration from the seedy clubs of Brixton and the SandM parties to the punk shops of Camden that popped after Westwoods innovative shop Sex, Gaultier has always drawn from London’s rebellious streets to create his grandiose mash up of references, blending Mohawks, tattoos, piercings, and elements from ethnic costumes, lingerie and couture. Just like punk rejected standard ideals of beauty and social norms, the designer celebrated his versions of contrast fashions, working with atypical models and radically changing the history of fashion. The exhibit is on display at the

Barbican from now until August 25 and definitely worth checking out if you’re in London! Paloma Faith signs to front British high street fashion chain Next. It’s been a big week for UK high street giants Next, not only have they announced this week that they are sharing a £4 million bonus with their head office staff, they have also announced that British singer Paloma Faith who is famous for her striking retro-inspired personal style and eccentric stage costumes as well as her unique music style – is to front the brand as their next top model. Faith is a regular on fashion front rows and performed live at the Burberry Prorsum Autumn/Winter 2014 in February. "Paloma is a British style icon," says Faith Kates, owner of Next Model Management. "We are thrilled to be working with her and her amazing team." The singer meanwhile is equally thrilled with the signing: "I'm really looking forward to working with the international team at Next," she told UK Vogue. "They understand fashion and my love for it and how it plays such a huge part in my musical creativity. I'm excited!" Next Model Management is now Faith's global representative for all future fashion and beauty bookings, and we bet it won’t be long until she follows in the footsteps of other pop fashionista’s such as Lilly Allen, Rhianna, Gwen Stephani, Beyonce and of course Victoria Beckham, in designing her own range of retro style clothes. David Beckham rumoured to be launching own brand. Speaking of the Beckhams here’s one for the lads! Brand Beckham could be expanding even further if rumours that David Beckham is to design a new ready-to-wear collection are true. The former footballer is, according to WWD (Women’s Wear Daily), reportedly in talks with Li and Fung and several other possible investors - to create a casual line, which would see him follow in his wife's footsteps in becoming a fashion designer, and if he’s half as successful as his wife at this, we can’t wait! Th e deal woul d furth er Beckham's growing fashion portfolio - he has previously designed collections for HandM and Adidas, as well as Modelling in campaigns for Belstaff, Breitling for Bentley and most famously (and who can forget ladies?) Emporio Armani.

Baking: Macaroons Queen of Cakes Here is a very good recipe for the very tedious and really quite temperamental little things which we call macarons or ‘macaroons’. This recipe is for the more adventurous cooks. Ingredients 3 egg whites. 210g icing sugar 120g ground almonds 30g caster sugar. First thing on the morning separate the eggs and leave the three egg whites at room temperature to temper them. Now prepare a baking tray with parchment paper. Or use a macaroon silicone tray you can get these from Lakeland, this saves a lot of work, I do though
recommend adding a bit of grease to the silicone tray as I do find the macaroons stick. If you use parchment paper you also need to make a ten-plate. On white paper mark out about 20 small round circles about 5 cm diameters each. Put this ten-plate under the parchment paper. Now If the ground almonds are a bit wet which they often are, put them on a baking tray and pop them in to a warm (not hot) oven for about half an hour or so until they feel dry. To make macaroons properly you really do need a food processor. Without this you will not achieve perfect results. So place the icing sugar and the dried ground almonds into the food processor while you prepare the rest of the ingredients,

Review: David’s
With its stylish French-Italian cuisine Davids Restaurant/ Pizzeria located in the heart of San Antonio will once again prove a popular choice for those in the know this Easter. We at the Ibiza Sun eat there regularly because it offers just what we are looking for – great food, express service, a lively atmosphere and prices that are just right.
oil and toast from the starters and the Magret of Duck with mashed apples and honey, - well it just speaks for itself. Other top choices include Chicken breast filled with Parma ham & Mozzarella Búfalo…….all prepared by the creative kitchen using the finest and freshest ingredients on the island.
These are just some of the reasons that Davids has remained one of the most popular restaurants on the island for couples, families and larger groups – but don’t just take our word for it, head down there to try their delicious food for yourself and we promise you won’t be disappointed.
The menu is extensive and their pizzas can be cooked on thin crust or as a Calzone. However there is far more on offer than you would normally find at a regular pizza joint with our faves including the hot Goat’s Cheese salad, a simply sublime combination of lettuce, tomato, bacon, mushrooms and hot goat’s cheese, though I’m always tempted by the Salmon with dill
The restaurant itself consists of two parts – the comfortable lounge, colourful and fresh, or the bustling terrace which is closed off and heated during cooler months, and during the heat of the summer refreshed by a vapour spray system making it the perfect place for a bit of al fresco dining.
You can find Davids at calle Madrd 12 in San Antonio. Tel 971 340470, FB Pizzeria Davids
leave this running for about five minutes, it will be noisy, but after five minutes when you turn it off you’ll appreciate the quiet!! While the processor is running work on the egg whites, add the egg whites to a mixing bowl and whisk – preferably with an electric whisk until they are white and quite firm, now add the caster sugar and a small (from a cocktail stick) amount of gel food colouring, whisk for another few minutes until they are stiff and glossy. Now remove the icing/almond mix from the food processor and sieve this into the whisked egg white mixture, (don’t worry if there is a little bit of course almond left in the sieve, dispose of this). Now with a metal spoon fold this in to the egg
white mixture, carefully and slowly so as not to lose too much air. Continue folding until the mixture is smooth and shiny, so that when you pour the mixture from the metal spoon it runs smoothly and is not jerky and does not break. Do not over mix, otherwise your mixture will be too runny and will spread on the baking tray and they will not rise. The mixture should be quite thick, but smooth. Now the tricky bit put the mixture into a piping bag fitted with a small round nozzle. Now carefully pipe small circles on to the baking tray using the template as a guideline, or into each perfect hole on the macaroon tray ( much easier!) Pipe small amounts so that as you take away the nozzle it leaves a
small ‘peak’ in the centre. This should flatten out itself or you can just touch it with your finger to flatten it. Leave the tray ready for the oven for about 30 minutes, so that a skin forms on the macaroon. Now bake for 13/14 minutes in the oven set at 140c or 300 gas. Remove from the oven leave to cool then sandwich together with butter cream flavoured to your choice. Enjoy the baking,

for more details. (not yet though, I still need to revise it for 2014) well, you can if you like, but some of the text is out of date. I'll be keeping the 2014 tariff the same as 2013. On with the tale. A group of lovely Swedish girls came to visit and wanted a vegetarian brunch. This is a picture of what I made for them. Later that day I was having friends round and making a chicken and leek pie for them. As the smell of it reached the terrace, the girls wanted to know what I was cooking, so I told them - "Ooh, its smells so good" they said, "could we just have a little taste of the leeks and cheese Bechamel, please?" No problem. Then one of them
scooped a bit of chicken up with her taste, by accident. "Mmmm, that's meat!" she said, "but not so bad!" Then the rest of them dived in, liked it, started to giggle (by the way, there were no special Ibiza ingredients in it) and went off into a huddle. So when I asked them what was making them laugh, they said "we have decided that from now on Chicken is officially a Swedish vegetable!" Beetroot and Walnut Hummus Ingredients 100g walnuts 1 tbsp cumin seeds 200g roasted beetroot coarsely chopped 1 tbsp tahini or more, to taste 1 large garlic clove, crushed Juice of one, or more lemons, to taste sea salt, to taste freshly ground black pepper, to taste olive oil Method Preheat the oven to 180C Wash the beetroot well to clean off any soil, do not peel or cut off anything other than a straggly root and the foliage, then rub well with olive oil, wrap in aluminium foil and roast at 180C on

chunky for a bit of texture) and put into a big mixing bowl Season with plenty of salt & pepper Now add the breadcrumbs a handful at a time. The idea of the breadcrumbs is to bind the mixture, so give a good mix after every addition and check for consistency. Once the mixture looks like it will stick together take a handful and push together to make a ball shape then flatten slightly to give a good surface area. Now chill the fish cakes until firm. Pre heat your oven to 200oC (if using) Add a good gulg of olive oil to a pan and fry the fish cakes on a medium heat until nicely browned (around 5/6 minutes per side) Or fry the first side and carefully turn the cakes and put into the oven for around 8/10 minutes to finish cooking. I prefer the texture of the cakes when finished in the oven. I like to serve them with a crisp salad and some sweet chilli sauce. Vernacci: Ibiza Archive
Apse of the Cathedral
Dalt Vila from the lighthouse wall that still stands Nicole Torres Thanks to the digitalization of the Ruiz Vernacci collection done by the Photograph Library of the Instituto del Patrimonio Cultural de España (Institute of Cultural Heritage of Spain), 28.820 photographs have left the drawers of this institution to be shared through the web. On their webpage (link at the end) you can find some of the oldest photos taken on the island, an Ibiza unknown even to the eldest ibicencos. Dalt Vila and the Marina were the only inhabited nucleus of Ibiza Town, which can be seen in photos taken from the Can Misses area. There are also photos of the port in which you can see a wall separating land and sea where now we have Nautical Club and the Formentera Boats. Joaquin Ruiz Vernacci (Madrid, 1892-1975) was an important Spanish photographer who, after a prolific career with his camera
capturing every corner of Spain, at his death bequeathed one of the richest national archives of its kind. Ruiz Vernacci acquired in 1930 the photo archive Laurent, which grouped the images collected by various photographers in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. This heritage together with his own work led to the largest photographic collection of the time, with unique testimonies of Spain in late 1800 and early 1900. This artist travelled throughout Spain to immortalize monuments, urban complexes, traditions, folklore, paintings, sculptures ... The culture, architecture and folklore were the three main reasons that attracted the attention of Ruiz Vernacci and in Eivissa he focused his work on Dalt Vila, where his attention was drawn especially to the Cathedral and the Portal de Ses Taules, and the Port. For decades Ruiz Vernacci’s work illustrated pages of major publications such as the daily ABC, the weekly La Esfera a n d Mundo Gráfico, t h e newspaper La
Portal de Ses Taules
Tribuna and Arte Taurino magazine. To do this, he toured the country and became one of the first Spanish travel photographers, whose heritage allows us to see landscapes we find familiar but are unknown to us in the XXI century. In 1975 this important collection was given to the state, but it was not until 2014 that the Institute of Cultural Heritage of Spain decided to provide it with a more durable life and make it more accessible for the public by scanning a part of the legacy of Ruiz Vernacci life. In total, this file has 40,589 glass photographic plates and over 12,000 glass negatives, so it is not impossible that new Ibiza secrets are discovered in future scans. The Institute of Cultural Heritage of Spain (IPCE) of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports, is the state agency dedicated to the conservation and restoration of cultural assets that make up the Spanish historical heritage. It integrates in its personnel specialists from various disciplines: architects, archaeologists, ethnographers, restaurateurs, physicists, geologists, chemists, biologists, filmmakers, computer programmers, photographers, librarians, archivists and curators, among others. The IPCE Photo Library consists of over 700,000 photographic documents whose chronology spans from the 1860s to the present and whose theme reflects the transformations of our cultural heritage from the beginnings of photography.

Distribution Ibiza Area
The Ibiza Sun is now available at more distribution points across the island. The past six weeks we have really concentrated on extending the availability in Ibiza Town, Figueretas and through to Playa d’en Bossa, where we have increased from 10 distribution points – not including the official newsagents – to 64 distribution points. We still have areas of the island with limited availability and we will continue to extend the distribution network in coming weeks. We are conscious that there is very little distribution in Sant Jordi, San Jose, and the southern beaches. We also need to find a way to distribute to the north of the island. A listing of all distributor’s distribution points are shown bellow, only these official news agents can charge for copies.

The 7th The International Music Summit (IMS) was held in Ibiza last week from May 21-23. It’s a 3-day electronic music and technology-driven event, which we’re told in the programme, has earned a reputation as ‘the TED of music conferences’. This year’s theme was ‘Filtering the Future’. Held in the newly opened Hard Rock Hotel in Playa D’en Bossa, it also gave me an opportunity to have a good look around this eagerly awaited new addition to the area. The programme from start to finish was packed with interesting sessions about the industry, interviews with well-known characters from the clubbing and music worlds, and panel sessions focusing on pertinent topics. And then there’s the evening activities: parties, receptions, dinners and free access to many of Ibiza’s nightclubs. Day 1 kicked off with an introduction from Pete Tong and the rest of the IMS organisers, followed by what has become a tradition at the Summit, the IMS Business Report. This serves to highlight the extent and importance of Electronic Dance Music (EDM) to the music business. Last year in the USA, dance music was the only genre to experience a positive growth in digital sales, and the EDM business is estimated to be worth $6.2 billion. Lohan Prescencer (Ministry of Sound) gave the keynote address, and there were interviews with Miles Leonard (Parlophone/Warner Bros.) and Seth Troxler amongst others, a session on developing markets for electronic music and an introduction to the newly formed Association for Electronic Music (AFEM). Once the day’s pro-
gramme was over, there was party round the pool hosted by Corona to promote their new Sunsets festival (see article elsewhere in this issue). The hottest ticket in Ibiza that night was to be at the IMS Legend Dinner, where Nile Rodgers was presented with his Legend award, and guests were treated to a performance from Nona Hendryx, who was joined onstage by Nile Rodgers himself, George Clinton and Simon Le Bon (unfortunately I was not there, so there are no photos). Continued over..
Seems I can’t deny, some
Corona SunSets festival
Day 2 saw more really interesting sessions. Interviews with Paul McGuinness who managed U2, Annie Mac, Seymour Stein (Warner Bros.) and Alfredo, gave insights into their worlds and experiences. Panel sessions discussed the club scene in Ibiza and the state of independent record labels. In the evening the first of the Dalt Vila parties was held in the Bastion of Santa Lucia, perched on the edge of the old city, with the Cathedral above and the harbour below. Not only was the setting magnificent, but the line-up of DJs was impressive too, including Ibiza’s Manu Gonzalez, a tribute to Frankie Knuckles with Pete Tong, David Morales and Hector Romero going back to back, and Annie Mac (Steve Angello was due to headline but was unable to make it due to plane problems). By Day 3, the schedule was starting to catch up with everyone, but it was not over yet. Diverse topics such as the Spanish underground movement, ticketing and education for the electronic music industry were discussed. The closing session was an interview with George Clinton (Parliament, Funkadelic), who now in his 70s, wowed the audience with interesting tales and anecdotes and received a standing ovation at the end. I managed to bag a brief interview with George, which will be in next week’s issue. The final Dalt Vila party saw live performances from Bob Moses and Anabel Englund, and DJ sets from Marino Canal, George Fitzgerald, Eats Everything, and Seth Troxler back
S e
to back with Jamie Jones. A fantastic finale to what had been an exciting and thought-provoking 3 days. The conference was well-organised, and as usual, they managed to put together an interesting and eclectic mix of speakers and interviewees, from Internationally-renowned DJs to club and artist promoters and managers, producers and people from the music industry. The change of venue to the Hard Rock Hotel was an overwhelming success. The facilities were great, the fibre optic WIFI worked a treat, and there were lots of places where you could chill out or hold meetings in between sessions inside the venue, next to one of the pools or on the beach. Next week we’re going to report on what came out of some the sessions in more depth, but to whet your appetite we’ve included links to the daily overviews that IMS produced, which include 6-7 minute videos with snippets from the day’s events. A new series of beach festivals for summer 2014 was announced by Corona (in conjunction with Beatport) at the International Music Summit last week. DJs already announced include Disclosure, Annie Mac, Moby, Eats Everything, Rob da Bank and Claude VonStroke. Many more will be announced in the upcoming weeks. As part of their ongoing commitment to beach sustainability, Corona SunSets has partnered with FEE/Blue Flag International to organise volunteer beach cleanups in UK, Mexico, Canada, and Ibiza. There’s also a DJ talent competition in which you can win a prize that includes an artist management deal, an official release, DJ gigs on some of the world's most exquisite beaches and at major festivals, professional studio gear, and much more. Talk: Leon Anwar: DJ Sci Sophia V
Leon Anwar / DJ Sci has mixed music not only in several super clubs such as Eden, Es Paradis and bars in Ibiza, but Aiya Napa, Kavos, Zante and England too. Playing against international acts such as Busta Rhymes, Sean Paul, Tinie Tempah and more, he shares his thoughts on Ibiza.
Who are you and what brought you to Ibiza? I was brought to Ibiza in 2010 after travel-
xx
t e
ling and playing in Aiya Napa/Kavos and Zante in previous years and it’s every dj's dream to play in the party capital of the world. I actually came to the island with one contact not knowing what was going to prevail, so as soon as I landed, I started to promote myself with custom made t-shirts and promo c.d's, and also entering any competitions that the island had to offer. I was willing to work in any job in order to stay on the island for the summer, as I knew being there would give me the opportunity to network with some of the big players in the music game. My contact was through TwiceasNice who had a bar on San Antonio's West End Called 2Nice which I went into and played a 90 minute set and the boss called me the evening after, and offered me the current dj's contract! I then progressed and was taken under the wing of the world wide known DJ 'Scottie B who taught me a lot over the summer, and played with some big international acts including Busta Rhymes/Sean Paul/Jerimah/Tinie Tempah and Many More.
What’s your favourite place in Ibiza? I would have to say my favourite place in Ibiza is a beach which I don't know the name of, but it’s a locals beach far out which tourists don't know about, and it’s really tranquil, and has amazing scenery! If we are talking clubs there are so many memories I have in Ibiza, but my favourite would have to be Space as I’ve enjoyed many amazing nights there with Carl Cox Playing 12 hour sets!
Any advice for people wanting to make it in Ibiza? The advice I would give to people wanting to make it in Ibiza is come prepared and be ready to be in promoters faces, and don't stop until you can’t physically lift a finger, as once you get that one chance you will play like you have never played before. Like I said, I was prepared to wait on tables or even be bar staff just to stay on the island as it offers so many opportunities and can open so many doors. Without Ibiza I would not be the DJ I am today, and will always have so much love for the Island!

The Raine is in Spain, but you couldn’t call it Plain ... Tell us about the concept if the club ? The club is Gatecrasher Ibiza. Gatecrasher have always been about the experience, music and production. Gatecrasher led the way for production in the 90’s in the uk, its festival, club night and events were the best in the uk at that time. We are the newest venue and have a fantastic all round product / experience, an audio visual experience with service if you want it. We’re a candy jar, come in and pick the bits you like and enjoy
Who designed it? The club was designed by Michael Van der Kuit, a flamboyant dutch entrepreneur (ex dj), Michaels vision came about from his global travels, he wanted to create the best all round venue in Ibiza he certainly has in San Antonio. Gatecrasher’s influence will take the experience to the next level
What refurbishment has been done? The club is unrecognisable as Eden, the whole club has been removed. Its a 3000 capacity venue over 2 floors and 2 rooms, Fully air conditioned so no frizzy hair for the girls! New flooring, bars there are 3 vip bars, a further 3 bars the main is 10 metres long and spans most of the ground floor so no waiting or 6 deep at the bar, walls, toilets are fully refitted with black slate and maintained all night , the incubus void sound system is the only one on the island, the lighting rig has moving led batons surrounding a 7 foot mirror ball which has a dj booths with led facade and a 6mm led screen behind it, all housed on a dome (original) complimented by 20 robe pointys, and led effects running the full length of the main room including ceiling effects, a 3d led screens is also installed. The entertainers dance on platforms housing led, strobes and fans with electric hoists to cater for the ariel perform .ances. The vip areas have separate bars and toilets , the only recognisable part of the building is the external . We are refurbish-
ing room 2 as a separate venue no name yet but is dark and dirty
What does it look like? It’s Las Vegas in Ibiza. I have been to all the Vegas clubs, I love Hakkasan but my favourite is Marquee and GCIBZ is very similar to Marquee , all we need is the pool area and the casino but one step at a time ;)
Inspiration from other clubs? None, people will follow this , love or hate gatecrasher the venues are always the best, sheffield, birmingham, nottingham, ibiza. All the best in their respective territories. See video and also read above We were on island at Pacha in 2001, moved to Space following a fall out, did Eden in 2006 and 7 and privilege in 2011. With out a permanent base is impossible to build continuity so we bought the venue . We operate as well as promote so the opportunity came up to take over the venue and we took it. Gatecrasher may still promote nights else where on island. GcIBZ is a venue Gatecrasher is the brand Why not
What can clubbers expect? Hedonistic nights Ibiza is the club shop window to the world, as a global brand Gatecrasher want to be part of this, San Antonio is one of the first places as a ibizan Virgin you go and stay, Gatecrasher want to be part of ibiza and we will bring more of what’s already here but in a location that's been starved of world class entertainment . Gatecrasher is the future sound of San Antonio

Postbag No Sudoku Dear Nicholas, As you probably know, we don’t all read your/our newspaper starting at page 1. Depending on my mood, if I’m feeling grumpy or I just want to pass away 15mins I go to Tarotscope (very true readings, its amazing) then the crossword and then the Sudoku. Please find space to put it back. I am sure Elaine will be delighted to know of your amazement in her readings— and you are not the first to say it. Though we had many a complaint at the loss of the crossword you are the first to fly the flag for Sudoku, but I/ we/your/our newspaper will be pleased to try and find a source if there is demand—so please let us know readers. If not let me know your address and I’ll happily send you a compendium for those grumpy moments. Parking Re Issue 736. The 2 Old Rockers. The Far East 2 Old Rockers Didn’t We Have A Lovely Day? What an enjoyable day the Cala Llonga Children’s Beach Party turned out to be last Sunday, for the participants and organizers alike. Entertainer Jose and his team started the morning off with a display of birds of prey together with snakes, which made a few people shudder, but enthralled some of the wide eyed little ones. The Parrot Show was a huge success as was the bouncy castle. The Foam Party brought squeals of delight from the children while the Sandcastle Competition brought groans of despair from “dads the builders”. A total of thirty one construc-

Also, I noticed on a parked car that he had a Blue Card for areas A and B? This parking lark is costing me a fortune (better to buy a ticket). Us old rockers are not to keen on the faint and small printing, but I suppose we will get use to it. From Christine Inglis. I hope the rockers will be able to answer your question Christine, but as for the issue on the printing I’m sure I don't know what you mean.

Community exhibition of an assortment of works by the students of Agrupación Siesta in the exhibition room Calle San Jaime, Sta Eulalia. This exhibition closes tomorrow night (sorry we didn’t advise you sooner but we didn’t receive the info earlier). These works range from still life, island scenery and some very tastefully painted nudes. Then on Saturday 31st May an exhibition oil paintings by Christine Wildman opens in the same location and runs until 7th June. There are an amazing number of talented artists on Ibiza and these two exhibitions offer you the opportunity to view some of their work. A Warning! We have received information about what seems to be the latest scam to hit the island. A friend of ours was contacted by telephone by someone claiming to be from Microsoft. She was told that her computer had been hacked and that she needed to download a file with their assistance. Failure to do this would mean that they would have to inform the police which would result in a fine of 1000€ being imposed on her. Fortunately this friend suggested that they ring the police immediately as there was no way that she was having anything to do with them. She then decided to call the Guardia Civil, who weren’t really interested, she then called 112 who were very helpful, advising her not to take any notice of the threats as they had received a number of calls from other concerned people, and if she was contacted again to ring them immediately. So if you are contacted by these people, then just tell them where to go and put the phone down. On the subject of scams we saw on Spanish TV news that fourteen people have been arrested in connection with the gas fittings scam that was prevalent a couple of years ago. Let’s hope they are locked up and that the keys disappear.

are back and I have seen them in the valley below. By the way if you want to hear the different bird songs to try and identify them then try www.birdsongs.com there are an enormous amount of varieties of bird songs on this site. Mind you I have heard that some conservationists are not very happy with these sites as they confuse the birds and can be used by less scrupulous people to attract birds and then shoot them. However I am sure you won’t do that and if you are interested in our feather friends I can recommend the site. Mind you I should warn you it can be quite addictive. Talking of addictions how are your New Year resolutions getting on? I assume you are like the vast majority and have long since given up or maybe you were like me and sensibly didn’t make any. Well that is not quite true I renewed my promise to stop writing this letter to you when I reach my 500th. According to my records after this letter I have 44 to go so next March I will be hanging up pen or perhaps should say shutting down my computer, of course that is always assuming that the Editor doesn’t shut me down beforehand! I was interested to see that it is not only cricket where rain stops play. We decided to go to the Trotting again on Sunday and shortly after the first race the heavens opened and the rain started chucking it down and after a very few minutes the track was flooded and racing was abandoned for the day. So we now have to wait until next Sunday for the opportunity to throw our money away. Well the odds of losing a lot of money are unlikely as the entry is free and you can place a bet for €1.20, not exactly a bank breaking sum but it just gives you bragging rights if you backed the winner! Well I hope you have a winning week, yours Juan

Noah. The man that couldn't say no. Why did that bugger allow mosquitoes on the ark? A red hot pole up the jacksy for him. This Holly-weird adaptation of the biblical event is as true as you can imagine those out of their boxes writers to come up with. With that great Shakespearean actor Ray Winstone as Twoballscane shouting out: "Come on ya git Noah, me and de lads are gonna punch yer lights out!" Simply spiffing casting. Russell Crowe plays Noah, who has been given the task of ridding the Earth of evil and taking the good to the Promised Land (well that leaves out Ibiza then). He is ordered to build an ark to take all of the blessed personage and animals to safety. It is an epic of Hollywood proportions, also starring Anthony Hopkins as Methuselah, Jennifer Connelly as Noah's wife Naameh, and Emma Watson as Ila. Not a bad cast, but a big shame about Noah naming the ark: The Titanic.

Joe. A steady burn starring Nicolas Cage as Joe. Joe is a kind, nononsense person who when pushed could beat seven bells of hell out of you. He befriends a boy who comes to work for him on a tree eradicating plantation. When Joe finds that the boy is being beaten and robbed by an inbred in-law, he goes on the warpath. I cannot see an Oscar coming his way, but if you like Cage, you will like this one. Slow but powerful.

A Haunted House 2. Starring Marlon Wayans, Cedric the Entertainer, and a host of other small-time stars, Haunted
House 2 is the follow-up to A Haunted House (of course). It is shot in the style of a home video, documenting what happens when Wayans buys a new house that he suspects to be haunted. He finds a doll (a bit like Chucky) that he believes to be possessed. I think the funniest part of this movie is when he decides to have sex with the doll to rid it of any demonic power, instead it just makes the doll even more determined to place the hex. Not as funny as the first film, but it has its moments, especially if you can understand Jive talk. Watch out for the new Transformers film, 'Transformers: The Age Of Extinction' starring (oh no!) Mark Wahlberg, the other plank besides Keanu Reeves. Do
not get me wrong, in their own right the both have something, but they need good actors around them. They lack inflection and emotion. Matt Damon, Denzil Washington and Morgan Freeman are just few of the many good actors that America has to entertain us. Unfortunately, the two previously mentioned are Bactors in my books.

Day in the Sun… simple fun. Carly Sorensen It seems technology is becoming more and more commonplace as a means of entertaining children. Babies are plonked in front of TV’s, distracted and entertained by the lights, sound and colour. Toddlers demonstrate alarming proficiency in the use of Ipads and tablets (some better able to operate them than I). Primary schoolers have their own mobiles or laptops and teens seem more comfortable with a screen and keyboard than a face and voice when it comes to interacting. With kids retreating further and further into the worlds of social networking, online gaming and TV series, it seems enjoyment of the natural world may be in danger of dying out. And we have to do something about it! Don’t get me wrong, I think technology in small doses is of huge benefit to our society, but I feel a little sad when I hear about kids spending their time indoors inhabiting others´ imaginary worlds when they could be outside creating their own. Call me old fashioned, but I believe childhood should be about running through fields, climbing trees, swimming in the sea, scraping knees, playing hide and seek, laughing in playgrounds, going on bike rides, collecting insects in jars, dressing dollies, racing cars and building dens, sandcastles, forts, imaginations and dreams. It’s because of this and a sense of nostalgia for my own childhood growing up in Devon, that I take my six month old outdoors as much as possible. She’s already climbed Sa Talaia a few times, paddled and splashed in the sea, played in the sand, hiked through woodlands, trekked down to hidden coves, been on boat trips, picnicked with lizards at her feet, seen dolphins
in the wild and sniffed every flower in our garden. She loves being outdoors. She squeals with delight when a gust of wind hits her face or she spots a creature moving. She giggles and flaps her arms excitedly at the sight and sound of the sea and takes such pure unadulterated joy in discovering new sights and sounds that it’s impossible not to feel it yourself. It’s wondrous to behold and costs us nothing. All we need to do is slap on sun-cream and a hat, pop her baby sling or pushchair in the car and set off an adventure. The exercise is good for us too and she sleeps like a log after a day in the fresh air. Yes, virtual worlds offer high definition graphics, incredible sound and magnificent stories, but nothing can replace the feel of the sun on your skin, wind in your hair, the beautiful memories or the warm ache in your muscles after a day playing, laughing, walking and exploring the multi sensory world nature has to offer. So, what are you waiting for? Put down the remote, shut down the tablet, put on some sun-cream and comfy shoes and get yourselves and your kids outdoors!
Mums Meet Ups Carly Sorensen Like most babies, Ela loves interacting with other little people and, like most parents, I love to see her do it. I also love conversing with grown ups every now and then, so, with this in mind, some friends and I have set up a facebook group (one of the benefits of technology in our society!) so that parents can post ideas for times and places for Mums (or dads) and babies, toddlers or kids to get together. There’s no fee, no age or gender restriction and expectant parents are welcome too! We’ve had a couple of gatherings so far, one beautifully sunny and fun afternoon at the water-park and another blustery afternoon at Port D’es Torrent beach. Mums (no Dads have been thus far) and kiddies all had great fun and made new friends as well as getting re-acquainted with old ones. Anyone can post suggestions of when and where to go, or turn up at a meeting already posted. To join the group just search ´Mums Meet Ups Ibiza on facebook and click ´join´. Hope to see you soon!

Registering on the Padrón The padrón is a list of all the people who live in a certain town. Empadronarse is the act of registering yourself on this list with your local town hall. Who should register? It is obligatory by Spanish law to register on the padrón at the Town Hall where you habitually reside, yet many British ex-pats still have not done so. Perhaps some view the padrón as a means of vigilance by the state, in ‘bigbrother’ fashion. However, in reality, it is simply a way for the town hall to know how many people live in their area, without entering into investigations as to a person’s official residence status or financial affairs. How do you register? You don’t have to own your house to register, just have an address where you habitually live, no matter whether you are the owner, you rent, or live with family or friends. Nor is registration a long drawn out registration process. Simply go to the padrón office of your town hall and fill in the form they provide. Take along official identification, such as a passport, and also your NIE or residence certificate/card, a recent utility bill in your name, and the deeds to your house or a copy of your rental contract. Although you may have to return
Page 18
to collect your certificate, the actual registration is completed all on the same day. Some town halls in the Balearic Islands make a small charge for issuing a ´Certificado de empadronamiento’ (eg 1.20 euros in Palma de Mallorca). Benefits of padrón registration Once you’ve completed the simple process, you can begin to enjoy all the advantages being on the padrón offers, such as: • Better public services Central government allocates money to the different municipalities according to how many people are on the padrón. Therefore, if you are not registered, your town hall is losing money for the provision of health centres, police officers, fire fighters and schools. • Access to benefits and social care You must be on the padrón for a certain period of time in order to access some income-related benefits and other aspects of social care available through social services at your town hall. • A reduction in taxes Depending on the town hall, registration on the padrón could mean reductions in certain community charges and inheritance tax. Furthermore, those on the padrón can also often enjoy dis-
counted courses, leisure and cultural activities run by the town hall. • Discounted travel A current ‘Cerificado de Empadronamiento’ can allow residents of Spanish islands to receive discounts of up to 50% on air fares and ferry tickets between the islands and the
mainland. • Voting rights In order to register to vote in local or European elections, you must first be registered on the padrón. • An easier life You’ll find you need your padrón certificate to carry out various administrative tasks, such as
register for healthcare, register your car with Spanish number plates or enrol your children in school. More information can be found on Residentes Europeos website.
How can you register to vote in Spain?
For a Spaniard, if you are empadronado, you are automatically registered for voting, it doesn’t seem to work like that for us ex pats. Though registration on the Padron fulfils all the requirements of voter registration, it is not an automatic extension of the registration, at least we don’t think so. As with so much public administration in Spain it seems surprisingly difficult to get a consistent answer. After talking to the Town Halls in San Antonio and San José, it is still not completely clear as how you get put on the voting list. In San José apparently you get sent a letter with what they call Intención de Voto (Voting intention). I registered on the San Jose Padron over a year ago and no such letter has been received—though as the Town Hall insisted our address did not exist you have to question whether this may be a postal issue. In San Antonio they said you have to go and ask for the Intención de Voto and that it works the same way in all the Town Halls on the island. Next step is to go along and apply for an Intención de Voto. We need a Guinea Pig for all town halls so if you are already on the Padron but not yet registered to vote and wish to do so, please contact us to help in this important experiment. Catalonia’s Open Secret: Cannabis Clubs
All it takes is internet access and a Google search for the keywords “marijuana Barcelona.” A list of options of where to buy the drug immediately comes up, and all in English too, because the clubs that advertise online are after what is already being termed “cannabis tourism.” It is a growing trend in the Catalan capital, where 200 or more cannabis clubs are to be found in the city centre even as authorities scramble to find a way to regulate the practice. The websites offer anyone the chance to join a club via email or telephone, and even provide lists with the different types of marijuana products available for sale and their prices. For instance, one gram of AK47 costs €9 while a gram of Silver Haze goes for €10. After getting in touch with the seller, interested parties are given the club’s address and warned that membership fees are €20. Valid ID is also required, this newspaper has confirmed. These clubs have found a way to sell cannabis: to set themselves up as associations. But some conditions must be met, such as being not for profit and handing out their products on a membersonly basis. Despite the fact the sector administers drugs and handles large amounts of money, there is little industry regulation “This condition meets with legal requirements and aims to guarantee that there is no indiscriminate access [to the drug],” explains Martí Cànoves, a criminal lawyer. Catalonia has around 400 cannabis clubs that are officially registered as associations, half of which are in the city of Barcelona. Many of them stick to the law, but others do not, as an online search demonstrates. It is an extended practice, and from time to time the regional Catalan police, the Mossos d’Esquadra, step in. Three members of a Barcelona club were arrested on Wednesday morning after being found looking for customers on the street. For years, the Federations of Self-Regulated Cannabis Associations of Catalonia (Fedcac) has been asking the regional government for some kind of regulation and insisting on the importance of distinguishing lawful clubs from the unlawful ones. This group has even drafted a code of good practices
that all federation members must observe. “Besides requiring endorsement from a member, we wait a week before approving a new application in order to prevent cannabis tourism,” explains Albert Tió, Fedcac spokesman. The federation estimates there might be more than 165,000 club members altogether, of whom 60,000 are regular consumers who spend between €50 and €100 a month. The department of internal affairs fears regulation could encourage drug use even further. In other words, these not-forprofits make around €5 million a month collectively. The marijuana that the clubs sell their members is grown in concealed industrial warehouses where the electricity supply is often tampered with to avoid raising any red flags, since a lot of lighting is used to accelerate the plants’ natural growth rate. Yet despite the fact that this is a sensitive sector that administers drugs and handles large amounts of money, there is little to no industry regulation. Last year, the regional health department drafted a preliminary proposal for legislation. Some of its suggestions were to set a minimum age for joining a club, placing a limit on the number of members and amount of drug that may be sold each month, and prohibiting promotional campaigns. “Since then, there has been no progress,” laments Tió. The department of internal affairs, however, sees risks in regulating cannabis clubs because it fears it could encourage further drug use. Meanwhile, the city of Barcelona — which has no legal power to address this activity per se — is putting the finishing touches on an ordinance that club premises will have to observe, including a ban on clubs near schools. “But nobody wants to regulate the bottom of this, which is access to cannabis,” says Martí Cànoves. The following Club with detailed information was found easily on Facebook. Cannabis Social Club Barcelona Smoker's from all part of world smoke everyday happy in our club!! What are you waiting for?? In Barcelona, a cannabis club is a non-profit organization that offers its members the possibility to get and consume a wide selection of cannabis products: marijuana, hashish, kief (polen), iceolator (cold water extract), BHO
(budder, amber glass, gasolator, shatter, wax), canna oil, alcoholic tintures, edibles, infusions, etc. The law in Spain permits the consumption of cannabis products for personal use only. The consumption of cannabis must be done in a private property, not in public areas. Members of aprivate club can acquire and consume cannabis in the club house. Roughly, a consumer has the right to acquire up to 50 grs of legal marijuana and 50 grs of legal resin (hashish) per month. Legal cannabis in Barcelona is not bought nor sold. Financial words in connec-
tion with cannabis in Barcelona is considered drug traffic. A member of a social cannabis club grants it's consumption quota rights to the club in order to supply it's members with legal cannabis. The management of this quota is done by the dispensary. Below: At Barcelona’s annual Spannabis convention production is taken to industrial standards.

Sport pean Tour ever, so well done to him and sets himself up nicely for the forthcoming Open. Well done also to Brits Donald, Gallacher and Dyson as they came in equal 3rd, and equal 5th respèctively. Tennis and the French Open started at the w/end, with favourites Rafa Nadal, Djokovic and Federer getting thru' to the 2nd Round. Our Andy embarks on his quest on Tuesday but lets hope he doesn't fall prey to early-round nerves, as World No 3 Wawrinka did, losing out to a Spanish qualifier! Footie and what can I say, after Real Madrid came thru' to win their 10th European Cup (La Decima) in Lisbon, after their 4-1 win against La Liga Champions Atletico Madrid. However, the scoreline did flatter Real, as with 92 minutes gone and only 3 minutes left of injury time, they were 1-0 down and on their way out, but, a Ramos header forced extra-time, when class really told, personified by a great header from Welshman Gareth Bale as he scored Real's second and then 2 more, from Marcelo and, inevitably Ronaldo (with his 17th of this season's CL campaign) produced the icing on the cake. Brill for Bale, as he now has a date of August 12 to put in his diary when Real will meet Sevilla in the European SuperCup, being played in his home city of Cardiff. In England, congrats to Our 'Arry as his QPR team performed a smash n' grab 1-0 win at Wembley against Derby County in the Championship Play Off Final, with the winner coming in the 88th minute. You had to feel sorry for Steve McLaren and his Rams as they really deserved to win overall, but if you don't take your chances, you don't score goals, and unfortunately, goals win games! So, it's back to the Premier for 'Arry at the first time of asking and ₤130 odd million to add to his transfer fund, so no doubt he's already thinking of ways to spend it or maybe, even transfer it to his dog's bank account in Monaco! Finally, the Transfer market frenzy has already started with the biggest deal already done and dusted with Chelsea netting a staggering ₤50 million from

Ibiza C.C. vs London New Zealand (LNZ)C.C. 16/05 T20 match Ibiza were asked to bat first by Chairman and Skipper Gerard Walsh of the London NZ visitors and were soon in some trouble at 36/3 in the 6th over. Then Skipper Graeme Cooper and Jolyon Swinburne (17) steadied the innings and put on 50 runs together. In fact, Graeme then opened up his shoulders and took control of the rest of the innings, scoring some robust boundaries and reaching his unbeaten century with a 6 off the last ball, thus allowing Ibiza to finish on a competitive 177/5 off 20 overs. Among the LNZ bowlers, Gerard Walsh achieved 2/12 with "Panther" Harris, ex All Black Sam Harding and Jo Burke all contributing a wicket each. The visitors then opened their batting confidently, with openers Sam Jeffries (24) and Chris Hamilton (31) putting on 50 runs together. Then several wickets fell steadily so that at 132/7 in the 16th over, Ibiza felt they would defend their total. But LNZ batsman Richard Brookes had other ideas and hit some rapid boundaries in his unbeaten 65 to see the visitors home by 3 wickets on the penultimate ball of the match in an exciting finish that could have ended in a win, loss or tie. Of the Ibiza bowlers, Paddy Slater (2/14) and Jolyon Swinburne (3/30) were the most successful, with Graeme Cooper and Robin Parmenter obtaining a wicket each. • 17/05 30 overs per side. This time LNZ batted first and, like Ibiza the day before, soon found themselves losing wickets
rapidly and at 42/5 after 10 overs, it appeared Ibiza were on top. But cricket is a strange game and can change quickly, as "Panther" Harrigan (76) and Sam Harding (119) showed by combining in a club record partnership of 187 runs that increased their score to 227 after 27 overs. It was already the second century in two games, which happens rarely in Ibiza cricket, and allowed the visitors to finish their innings on 251/7 off 30 overs, a required run rate of over 8 per over. The Ibiza bowlers tried hard to stem the flow of runs and Paddy Slater (3/39) with skipper Jeremy Parmenter (2/18, breaking the batting partnership mentioned) stood out, while Graeme Boe and Paul Partridge contributed a wicket apiece. It was then Ibiza's turn to bat and, with several regular players absent, it was a daunting target they faced. Martin Cooper score a rapid 26 before departing, but it was in fact all rounder Jolyon Swinburne who kept his head down and stayed at the crease. However, at 93/5 after 15 overs, it looked bad for the hosts, until Neill Tobitt (31) constructed an 83 run stand with Jolyon and, along with 42 extras from the visitors bowling wides and no balls (possibly affected by a late night at Pacha and the afternoon heat!), increased the score rapidly to 172/6 off 20 overs, back on track with the required run rate. This had tipped the match back in Ibiza's favour, and Jolyon went on to score a well deserved 102, before falling with 2 runs required off the last over. Batsman Martin Makepeace struck the first ball of the last over well, assuming this was the winning hit, but was superbly held low down to the disbelief of most players! It was left to last man Stuart Mottram to face the next ball and he kept his nerve to flick it to the leg side boundary, thus winning the match for Ibiza by 1 wicket in the last over! It is exceptional that 2 cricket matches over two days against such a friendly and sporting side as London New Zealand C.C. should produce two such exciting games that both included centuries (three in total), some
g r e a t catches and fielding, and finishes in the last over, and the series being squared at one game all! Many thanks to Chairman Gerard Walsh for organising this trip for the second year running and hopefully he and his team enjoyed it so much that they will visit us on an annual basis. We look forward to welcoming them back to Ibiza soon! RugbySpy Ibiza 10’s Claire B The weekend of June 6th-8th sees the return of the 2nd RugbySpy Ibiza 10’s tournament. The three-day event combines knockout 10’s rugby, live DJ sets and music performances from Happy Mondays and Indie Rock funk band Young Jack. Held in the Can Misses football stadium just outside Ibiza Town, each game is fast-paced, with teams playing for 10 minutes each way. There will be stalls to buy food and drinks, including beer and sangria, plus paella, a BBQ and local produce. Highlights will be shown on the big screen and there will be plenty of music and video to keep the crowd entertained. After play finishes at about 9.30pm the music will continue and there’ll be opportunities for rugby fans to meet players like Tom Varndell, Christian Wade, Jack Cuthbert and Gavin Henson, have a beer and a chat. The ground will close at 11.45pm. Sunday 8th is Finals day and when all the teams have finally done battle and one of them lifts the 2nd RugbySpy Ibiza 10’s trophy, the party really begins. As the sun begins to set there’ll be an opening set by up and coming UK band Young Jack and then when darkness falls, a performance by iconic UK band the Happy Mondays. The event is also supporting military rehabilitation centre Headley Court as its official charity. A ‘Make a Pledge cam-

Second RugbySpy Ibiza 10’s Tournament paign’ aims to raise awareness and get people to pledge their time or a skill to help wounded service people undergoing rehabilitation at the centre, many of whom have suffered multiple amputations as a result of injuries sustained in Afghanistan. These injuries change people’s lives forever and recovery and rehabilitation can take years. It’s important that these brave people don't ever feel unsupported and isolated which can happen when they're no longer serving or with their units and don't feel part of the team. The same feelings occur when professional rugby players are injured and have to face a potentially life changing situation alone. There will also be two free ‘Come and Try’ rugby sessions for children between 6 and 12 years old, on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. This was very successful last year. They will be taught the basics and every child will receive a free rugby ball. If you know your rugby, you might also get to meet some famous players, so bring a pen to collect autographs. Tickets are £45 for the whole event, but there will be some cheaper daily tickets available for families to come and watch the day’s play after the ‘Come
and Try’ sessions (Sunday tickets include Happy Mondays and are therefore more expensive). For more information on RugbySpy and to purchase tickets visit: www.rugbyspy.com
Champions League; Everyone’s a Winner Everybody knows that football commands big money at the top level, but you might be surprised by just how much money is involved in Europe’s top event, the Champion’s league. Winning the match came with a prize money of around 62 million euro for Real Madrid – the winners. This was made up of 40 million euro in merit money 5.5 million for their performance – winning 5 group games and ending 1 in a draw and 16 million in TV money. However, Atlético Madrid, the runners up made approximately 50 million euro from the encounter and each team in the playoffs would automatically receive a few million euro, just for being there. Obviously, with the duel between Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid taking place in Lisbon, the Portuguese capital was one of the biggest winners. Not only was the stadium full to the brim with Spanish supporters of both teams, but a total of

100,000 football fans, more than double the stadium’s capacity, flocked to the neighbouring country, meaning that hotels, bars, restaurants, nightclubs, and local businesses and attractions must have profited also. And the Portuguese took advantage of the event, raising their drinks, food and hotel prices accordingly. With London making around 52 million euro for the final in 2011, Madrid around 50 million in 2010 and Rome taking 45 million, Lisbon has raked in a similar amount - some calculations say about 46 million euro. However, the Portuguese weren’t the only ones to profit. Of course, bar and restaurant owners across the peninsular would have tried to cash in on the event too. Anywhere with a large terrace and a large screen would have been laughing. Mastercard estimated that the Champions League final has created an extra 350 million euro with between a third and almost half going on food and drink in outside establishments. Telepizza expected to increase sales by 30% last Saturday. And for a country that has only just emerged from recession, the fact that two of Spain’s top teams were in the European final couldn’t have come at a better time, although this result was probably not as welcome for UEFA sponsors as it was for the sponsors of the two Spanish teams (Mahou, Coca-Cola, Volkswagon). Iberia was also another one to be rewarded as the Spanish airline was awarded the contract to

F1 Monaco Rhian G We’ve recently seen the force that is Mercedes and going into Monaco it was all to play for. Tensions are rising and this has been escalated by Rosberg going off track, bringing out yellow flags and preventing Hamilton from providing a pole lap. In the interviews after and some popular opinion is that Rosberg did this intentionally, and perhaps the stewards thought there was more to it, as he was investigated by the FIA and subsequently cleared of any wrong doing. To the race itself, Hamilton was unable to catch Rosberg who took his second consecutive pole and it seemed all but over when Hamilton got dirt in his eye and had to try and remove it on slow corners, thus enabling Ricciardo to close the gap substantially from 12s to just 0.4s in a great late challenge to the finish line. Vettel must be worrying with another DNF, having to retire lap 6 due to turbo issues and with Ricciardo (3rd) on the podium means he is fast dropping behind in the Championship Leader board. With 3 safety cars throughout the race there were a number of retirements including Perez and Maldonado who both retired in the first lap. Behind the frontrunners were Alonso in 4th, Hulkenburg in 5th although he struggled to keep his place after feeling
the pace of Magnusson who eventually dropped back after engine troubles to take 10th and then Button (finishing 6th) in the later stages of the race. Massa had a good race too moving up 11 places to take 7th and his teammate Bottas would have been in the points but was forced to retire in lap 56. Grosjean crossed the line 9th but gained a place post-race after Bianchi 9th was given two 5s stop-and-go penalties - one starting out of position and the second for serving it under the safety car. This was a breakthrough race for the Banbury based Marussia team scoring their first ever points in F1 and with Chilton finishing 14th it was cause for celebrations. Caterham had a decent race with Ericsson finishing 11th and Kobayashi 13th however Sauber had a terrible day as both drivers (Guitierrez and Sutil) retired due to accidents and Torro Rosso joined the bad luck club with Vergne and Kvyat also retiring, both suffering exhaust problems. Rosberg now leads the Championship on 122 with Hamilton 4 points behind. The rivalry that is between Hamilton and Rosberg is now being likened to that of Senna and Prost and with this in mind the rest of the season is likely to be fraught with more tension, the questioning of team orders and perhaps some emotional driving between the two. Personally, I can’t wait for Canada!
Sport Jezza´S Sports Report
Jeremy Parmenter Well, here it is, what you've all been waiting for (really!), my list of End of Season Footie Awards, some tongue-in-cheek and some serious, but before I launch in to that, some Sports Snaps to update you, after a humdinger of a sporting week. Rugby Union and what a send-off for Our Jonny Wilkinson as he led Toulon to retain their Heineken European Cup, only the 3rd club to achieve this feat, with a resounding 23-6 win over
Saracens in Cardiff. Not content with scoring 13 points with his boot, but he orchestrated the French win and was replaced to a standing ovation 2 minutes from time. Now all he has to do before retiring gracefully from the game is to lead the Toulonnaise to the 2nd leg of their dream Double this Saturday in the French Championship Final against Castres in Paris. Shame for Sarries but they were outplayed and at least they can now look forward to the English Premiership Final at Twickers on Saturday against Northampton, who won the 1st leg of their Dream Double, by winning the 2nd tier European Amlin Cup beating Bath 30-16, also in Cardiff.
Cricket and just typical England, as they stuffed Sri Lanka in the 1st ODI (of 5) at the Oval to give us supporters hope that this newlook team, under new manager Peter Moores, would banish memories of their diabolical winter, but oh no, back to reality, as they themselves were stuffed in the 2nd ODI at Durham, losing by 157 runs (which is some going in a 50 over one-dayer!) and only scoring 99 in their innings, their 6th lowest ODI score ever. Let's just hope they can get back to winning ways over the remaining 3 matches. Golf and the Mac is back with a vengeance! Having given his fiancee, tennis star Caroline Wozniaki, the boot after the wedding invites had
