Legionnaires Confirmed As Cause Of Tourist Death Lynne Balaam, 59, of Cardiff, died in Can Misses on October 18th. Family complains at 3 week wait for confirmation of cause. Further cases reported at same accommodation.
Mother of four Lynne arrived in Ibiza for a 10-day break on September 22 to celebrate her birthday with nephew Michael Badham, 17, sister Kathleen Laddell, 52, and her partner Leigh Charalambos. But within days of arriving at Thomson’s C’an Sanso apartments in the Santa Eulalia resort, both sisters fell so ill they were taken to hospital and Lynne died on October 18. Spanish doctors diagnosed Lynne with Legionella infec-
tion at the town’s hospital while Kathleen tested negative at a private hospital, but was so ill she remained in hospital for several days. The apartments were shut after Lynne was taken to hospital but Thomson has remained adamant there is no clear link although her family say Spanish doctors said the infection probably came from the water systems. In a second incident Philip Cox, from Teignmouth in Devon, fell ill after staying in the C’an Sanso apartments a week before Lynne arrived.
