Group to Represent the Interests of British & Irish Ex Pats in Ibiza. Call for Candidates in all Districts, and Fields of Special Interest. Vote for your Representatives alongside the Spanish Municipal Elections in May. Participation, Contribution, Integration and Identity

Nick Gibbs

The British and Irish resident communities of Ibiza need and deserve a mandated group of representatives who are able to take up issues of common interest.

There has been a very high level of engagement amongst our community in the Voter registration initiative undertaken by ourselves, Martin Makepeace, Colin Butts and Nathan Viva. If our involvement in the local life of Ibiza is to move beyond that of moaning Guiris it is logical that we have a group with some degree of authority and credibility who can speak for the British and Irish communities. If anything, it seems surprising that we do not have one already. The difficulty in establishing a group is in turning people’s thoughts into actions. Many people may think it a good idea, but turning out to vote on the day is not always as easy as the good intentions to do so. In this respect we have a window of opportunity. Those who have engaged in the voter registration process are perhaps those most likely to wish to have their say in the forming of a representative group. By combining the election and formation of (continued page 11)

Fares will start from €75 one-way, with return flights from €150. Supreme Court annuls Ibiza Town General Plan The 1987 management plan is now in effect The Supreme Court has overturned the Plan General de Ordenación Urbana (PGOU) - the General Urban Plan – of Ibiza Town, which has been in force since it was approved in 2009. As detailed in the judgment, the Supreme Court has cancelled the General Plan due to an administrative error in the way it was processed, in that it lacked the required Study on Strategic Environmental Assessment. The Supreme Court explained in its decision that the Balearic Commission of the Environment of was wrong in its consideration that the Environmental Assessment was not required as an essential part of drafting the General Plan. This cancellation, decreed by the Third Chamber of the Supreme Court, was issued as a result of an appeal brought by the company ‘Promotions Es Mirador de Sant Jordi SL’, who own of the land known as ‘Ses Feixes des Prat de Vila’ which has been the centre of planning and development applications refused by the authorities. Mayor of Ibiza Town, Virginia Marí, said that the legal and technical department of the council "are studying the implications that may arise from this decision, and they have already begun the necessary actions to re-arrange the plan general and fix this problem as soon as possible".

Ibiza Town sign UNICEF child friendly agreement.

On Monday 2nd March the Mayor of Ibiza Town, Virginia Marí, and the president of UNICEF Ibiza Committee, Carmen Fano, signed a cooperation agreement between UNICEF and Ibiza Town giving recognition of the municipality as a Child Friendly City. The agreement enables Ibiza Town to use the UNICEF 'Child Friendly City' seal of approval awarded last October and ratified by Monday’s signing. Ibiza Town can now use the seal in promotion covering many aspects of local life including the promotion of child welfare, education and positive participation in activities and events. It also has considerable merit to the City in its own right an an award of institutional prestige. The agreement, which will run for four years, says that after two years the Spanish Committee for UNICEF will conduct a review of the Local

Ibiza Town Votes As Expected on Port On Thursday the full Ibiza Town Council unanimously approved the motion calling for a halt to what it sees as overdevelopment of the Port and its ancillary facilities. The motion was prepared 2 weeks ago and reported in detail in this newspaper. Several areas of contention exist between what the Port Authority want, and what the Council think is acceptable. Since notice of the intention to pursue the motion was released, the Port Authority have challenged the council’s right to rule over their plans, stating it is under law a national Government decision, not local. In passing the motion the councillors assembled called for the Consell and Balearic Government to ratify the situation as soon as possible.

Consell Settle €6.8m Bank Debt The Consell Insular will amortise all outstanding bank debt Ibiza will be debt free for first time since Mari Calbet The Consell is set to pay the amount of 6,825,949.53 euros to it’s creditor banks to clear all outstanding borrowing, so that the debt of the Consell Insular will be zero "for the first time since the first term of Mari Calbet," explained the Minister of Finance, Alex Minchiotti. The repayment is possible following an injection of capital to the Consell Insular by the Balearic Government. As best we can decipher in what is a rather complicated technical financial statement, the Government payment is a return of an historical debt, and due to the new Finance Law for the Consells and that this year represents a monthly income of 3.5 million from the Autonomous Community. The Minister of Economy highlighted the fact that leaving the debt at zero "means 100% of the council’s money can now be retained.” Good to know we have somebody with a basic grasp of arithmetic in charge.

Sant Jordi adopt commercial revitalization plan 16 municipalities in the Balears have signed up. Sant Josep borough council introduced their commercial revitalization plan "Som Saliners" yesterday. The event was attended by Lourdes Cardona, Director General of Commerce, and Vicente Roig, Minister of Commerce. During the presentation they described this as being the first phase of a dynamic programme. There are already 15 other municipalities throughout the Balearics participating in this scheme designed to offer support and assistance to small and medium businesses, calling upon resources of the Balearic Government. Following the launch of a pilot program in Felanitx in 2012, and in view of the good results achieved, the Regional Ministry of the Economy decided to extend the plan to other municipalities of the islands. The programme provides the tools to diagnose problems and identify strategic business needs and opportunities, and then to formulate and plan of action and prioritise the steps required to improve their competitiveness and profitability. "The purpose of this Plan is to contribute to the success of small and medium sized businesses in Sant Jordi, and through that to improve the town’s image” said Mayor Neus Mari.

Santa Eulalia Crematorium Licence Issued.

The Ayuntamiento de Santa Eulària has confirmed details of the licence issued for the construction and operation of the new crematorium facility. Licence to build and operate the new crematorium has been granted to the VFV Group. Work will commence in one month and once started should be completed in another six. The standard cost of cremation will be 1,200 euros, but it is reduced to 700 euros for residents of Santa Eulalia in exchange for various concessions granted by the town council. The VFV Group, which has the concession for 20 years, will be investing 587,000 euros in the construction of the new facility pictured left, which has a striking modernist, and some may say un-crematorium like, design.

Romantic Spring Break @ Royal Plaza Promotion package for couples in Ibiza Town

Nick Gibbs In my experience women are rarely likely to be impressed by announcements such as “good news darling, I’m taking you away for our anniversary and I’ve managed to get us a €25 room in Hotel Economico.” Quite right too, for whereas the needs of a road trip may be served by a sleepn-go, sometimes it is good to have a little luxury and a 5th Wedding anniversary and Valentines Dinner was the perfect excuse to push the boat out a little. We have been raving about the Plaza to friends ever since and so when details came in today of their Spring Romance break I was genuinely pleased to get a reason to extend the audience. Besides which friends are probably getting tired of it now. Perfect if you want to do something special before the season kicks in, and at arguably the best time of year in the island capital; sunny days, sales in the shops, winter offers in bars and restaurants, and no tourists cluttering up the place. As with all things Royal Plaza, great attention has been given to the little things and you will enjoy those throughout your stay, but here are the key included items.

Food & Drink

Overnight stay in a superior double, a bottle of Cava to your room on arrival, gourmet dinner in ‘La Relais’ restaurant, full body massages & facials for both of you, breakfast, and a late checkout to 6pm. It all comes at great value - 180€ per couple, and you can upgrade to a junior suite for an extra 50€ if you wish. I doubt you would get much change from 90€ each for a full body massage and facial would you? So that's the list of what is included, but it is those 'touches' that we loved - real old school 4 star class. From the fresh flowers, to Hierbas toiletries to all-free no-logon TV and internet, it really does take you back to a time when 4 star meant exactly that Example, the mini-bar. Our last 4 star in London had a locked fridge in the room that had to be activated at reception and a dispenser that charged 8€ to your bill the second you'd moved a bottle - pretty standard fleecing by today's hotels in that sector. At the Plaza a drink from the minibar is 2€, and they leave space for your own items. The difference? One sees you as a wallet to be emptied at every possibility, the other sees you as a client that may want a drink in their room. We love the Royal Plaza, so why not treat yourself, there’s a long hard summer ahead. See ad on front page for contacts.

Mini-Chefs 2015 @ Villa Mercedes Children’s cookery in a live restaurant kitchen. Making Buns in the kitchen with mum used to be part of every child’s life - and some say the world would be a better place if such domesticity continued. Given there would be more buns which is reason enough who would argue but the children of today require something a little more to tear them away from their gadgets - and for cookery cue Mini-Chef. Conceived in 2014 by the energetic Barbados Nuria Moreno, the idea is that the children actually learn in a live kitchen restaurant, taught by experienced working chefs. Conceiving the idea is one thing, but convincing a restau-

rant, let alone a head chef, that it would be a good idea to have a dozen kids in their kitchen makes Barbados something of a superstar sales-woman. The team at Villa Mercedes seem to take it all in their stride, and it is smiles on the faces of both those who can reach the flour and those who cannot. It is an excellent scheme and the children get to make their dishes, present them in competition to a panel of judges, with the endgame all being to even more approving smiles of camera snapping parents. Beginner’s Guide To The Spain’s Administrative Structure Spain is divided by Region, Province and then Municipality. Along with the Canary Islands, the Balearics have an additional level of Government, the ‘Consell Insular’ not present on the mainland. There are more than 8,000 municipalities (ayuntamientos). Each has a council, a commission (a kind of cabinet), and a mayor (alcalde). Municipal councillors are elected by universal adult suffrage (the right to vote) through a system of proportional representation. As in elections to the national parliament, votes are cast for party lists, not for individual candidates. Municipal governments may pass specific local regulations so long as they conform to legislation of the national or regional parliament. While municipal governments receive funds from the central government and the regions, they can also levy their own taxes whereas, provincial governments cannot. A provincial council (Diputación Provincial) is responsible for ensuring that municipalities cooperate with one another at the provincial level. The main function of these councils is to provide a range of services not available to the smaller municipalities and to develop a province wide plan for municipal works and services.

Below: Ibiza & Formentera are 6 of more than 8,000 municipalities in Spain.

National

The 2015 Elections The 2015 Spanish municipal elections will be held on Sunday, 24 May 2015. Municipal elections will be held at once across all of Spain, while regional elections will be held the same day in 13 of the 17 autonomous communities; including the Balearic Islands.

Andalusia, Catalonia, Galicia, and the Basque Country are those not voting as they have different electoral cycles. Foreign nationals from EU coun-

tries now resident in Spain may vote in the elections at municipal level, but not Consular or Provincial. To vote you must be registered and registration is now closed. The last municipal elections were held in 2011.

Voter Turnout

The graph below shows that voter turnout ranged from 48.5% in

Santa Eulalia up to 64.7% in San Juan. Above the turnout percentage you can see the actual number of votes cast. We then calculated the number of votes required to elect a candidate to the council based upon the votes cast, where that vote was for an elected party (in effect disregarding the marginal candidates). Political Representation

To the right you can see that the ‘conservative’ PP hold the highest number of seats across Ibiza and Formentera as a whole with 58. Next are the ‘socialist’ PSOE with 34. This representation was broadly reflected nationally in Spain at the last election. Below you can see the parties who stood in each of our municipalities, the number of seats they obtained as a result. Formentera has traditionally had a different political representation. In Spain you do not vote for candidates, but for Party lists.

In effect their favoured candidate is number 1 on the list and so will get elected if they only get one seat. The more seats they win, the further down the list the candidates are elected. In a coming issue we will explain more about the parties and their respective policies. We have invited each of the main parties, including several who have been formed since the last elections including Podermos who have considerable support nationally, to give us an outline of their objectives and policies.

Current Opinion Polls

Until then we have shown below the latest opinion polls in which the PP continues to lead the field.

Letter From Juan Well you will be happy to hear that I completed my resolution not to drink in February despite going out on Saturday, the last day of the month, for a meal. Mind you, I had to go out for a meal on Sunday to celebrate – don’t worry I wasn’t driving. The first glass of house white wine I couldn’t finish was so disappointing, however I did manage to quite enjoy a couple of glasses of red, but I must admit it didn’t taste as good as my brain had been taunting me with during my abstinence and this morning? I have to confess I did feel better when I wasn’t drinking. So I think I will give it another go sometime, perhaps not for a month maybe a week next time or maybe even a day like the Catholics give up meat on a Friday and only eat fish. At least I didn't have to resort to pretending I was drinking wine when I was only drinking water which

reminds me of a joke I first heard on a “Clancy Brothers” LP many years ago. This Irish Protestant, John, married a Catholic and of course had to convert before the wedding. After the wedding, the Priest asked him how he was getting on with his new religion, “well Father” he said, “I must admit I am finding it very hard to think of myself as a Catholic.” “That is quite understandable” replied the Father, “I will tell you what you should do keep repeating to yourself: I’m a Catholic not a Protestant, I'm a Catholic not a Protestant” and in no time at all you will be a true Catholic.” “That is wonderful news I will do that” said the man and he marched off down the road muttering those words to himself. One Friday evening several weeks later, the Priest was in John’s neighbourhood and he thought he would pop in and see how John was getting on. When he rang the doorbell John’s wife answered and the Priest explained that he was just passing and thought he would pop in and see how John was getting on with his faith. “Oh he is getting on grand” said his wife, “in fact he is in the kitchen cooking why don’t you go in and ask him

yourself?” The Priest walked into the Kitchen and there was John standing over the cooker muttering to himself, “you’re a fish not a steak, you’re a fish not a steak”... Maybe it is one of those jokes that is better spoken rather than read! Well that’s my excuse any way. I hope you have a grand week, yours Juan.

View from the Pew With Spring in sight, we continue to contemplate, with expectation, the metamorphous that is taking place day by day! Creation at its best! God’s Word has a lot to say about His creative handiwork in nature as well as in his human creatures. “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, the old has gone, the new has come!” 2 Cor. 5:17 “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Rom. 12:2 “And we who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory and are being transformed into Christ’s likeness…”2 Cor. 3:18 “Being confident of this, that He [God] who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion…” Phil. 1:6 “He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man's heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end.” Eccl. 3:11 Just as the beautiful butterfly emerges from the chrysalis, so there is hope that the transformation which God works from the inside out, will also transform us as we set our eyes on not what is seen, but what is unseen. For our goal is Christ’s likeness… however, we are a work in progress. Why? “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 Next Service: Sun March 8 11:00am – Holy communion with Praise and Worship in Santa Eulalia.

Trying to de-clutter, past psyche such a strain, Not to mention smelly gunk down that rotten drain, So new almonds blossoming called me up to say, Time to forget nightmares for a brighter day, Boundary time and space, hold no place for fools, Remember strong warriors’ strategies and tools, Make spinach smoothies, keep records clean, Surrender to dreamtime, plant a runner bean, Grandpa Jack’s beanstalked ladder to the Moon, Giant’s golden mercy find its way home soon, To lift us up way beyond petty wars and strife, Help create a new planet, birthing a new life Drum up fresh water, clean food without germs, Soil rich and healthy, full of wriggly worms; Maybe that’s what’s brewing down in me gut? I got full of debris, and stuck in an old rut Time to ring changes, get me bathroom done, Kitchen too, new plumbing, no more on the run, Submit final figures to complete this old estate, Let my Dad rest in peace ‘cause it’s much too late For us to change a thing, long six foot under now, He continues daily to bless this holy cow, Rising from the ashes, phoenix spreading wings, Dancing to new rhythm while me kettle sings, Done with death and dying, held the clinging hand, For eight years now waiting in a far off land, Time to free that grasp, wave the past goodbye, Shed a tear if I must, never more to lie Truth-telling sacred clown, make sure all is fair, Because to hold on any more is more than I can bear. Blossoming on this white isle, petals open wide, Tax man done and dusted, nothing left to hide, Power in our kitchens with sturdy oven glove, Stirring a big pan full, new paradigm of Love.

Group of United Kingdom & Irish Residents of Ibiza (From page 1) our own group with the Municipal elections we can expect to maximise participation in the process. The first step is a call for candidates. We have already had some people confirm their interest and we are now looking for people to stand as both local borough representatives, and also some specialists in areas such as education. The broad framework will be to attend around 6 meetings a year and an open agm, and to take up work both arising from the group and assisting individuals. Any Ibiza or Formentera resident can stand for election, and whether we get 200 or 2,000 votes, it is the foundation of a group that will have the credibility to stand up and be heard. We need to consider it our aim that we can achieve the same standing as organisation such as the Mar Blava environmental group who, though not holding official office, are able to make their voices heard in the local

corridors of power. We should not think of the group merely as a more formal way to complain however. I hope our role could be a positive force in adopting principals such as Participation, Contribution, Integration and Identity Please spread the word for candidates in your own networks. Anybody interested in finding out more can please email me as below. We will shortly give more details on the intended structure and composition of the group having first discussed it with as wide a panel of potential candidates as possible. Everything can be changed as soon as it is formed (including the name - though I hope not) but it makes sense to get it as close to possible to being right from the outset. I hope that this can be a real step forwards for our communities, and though for reasons I will relate next time, I will not be standing for election myself, I am confident we have many good and able volunteers out there. gibbs@theibizan.com

ARIES – Four of Swords This week take time for some reflection and rest. If you’ve been overdoing it, you need to take it easy. You may not feel like connecting with others anyway; preferring your own company. This will also allow you to unravel jumbled and chaotic thoughts. Your mind has been working overtime and it’s possible that any stress is related to this. TAURUS – Knight of Pentacles If you listen to any advice this week, make sure that the other party is not being self-interested. You may have ideas that can help others but make sure they don’t make off with them. Financial investments need more research. This is not to say that they won’t be profitable, but again make sure the investment is right for you. GEMINI – The Hierophant (reversed) Don’t doubt your abilities or lose direction. Maybe you’re not sure if a situation is for you? This is not the week to make important decisions regarding your future. Meditate or do a practice that puts you back in touch with your inner source of your wisdom. Look outside the box for solutions and expect some unusual twists and turns. CANCER – Six of Swords Let go of negative thoughts about your past. Don’t look back, just keep your intention clear and loving; come out of mind and into heart; move on. If you’ve been through a difficult time, the worst is behind you. Life will become calmer; giving you much needed head space to sort out problems. A save haven in a new environment. LEO – Ace of Pentacles The money wheel has come to town and has parked outside your home! You will feel a lot more secure about your financial future this week. Offers are coming in thick and fast so make sure you make an informed decision regarding money matters. You can also think about branching out into other areas for a monetary boost. Consider everything! VIRGO – Five of Pentacles (reversed) We can all feel sorry for ourselves if our finances are not what we’d like them to be. But instead of being too downhearted, you need to think of the precious things you do have in life. Your family, your friends, or have a sense of community. You’re highly thought of and will see signs this week of loving support LIBRA – Nine of Pentacles It’s a wonderful week to count your blessings, especially where finances are concerned. You’ll be thinking of future investments and whether they will pay off. This card is a confirmation that you’re on the right track and can expect to gain in the near future. Also, remember to enrich your life by surrounding yourself with likeminded people who support you. SCORPIO – Seven of Wands If the going gets tough this week and you feel like you’re being backed into a corner; stand your ground and make sure that those who are piling on the pressure are informed that they need to back off. You can’t expect to function properly when others are showing so little faith in your efforts. You’re not a doormat! SAGITTARIUS – The Fool This card doesn’t not mean you’re a fool Sagittarius; far from it! Often it’s the behaviour others that causes a knee jerk reaction from you. Be an observer and avoid biting back at any perceived slight. Have patience with challenging situations and have no fear in dealing with them. Trust that what’s being played out is for your highest good. CAPRICORN – King of Cups This King can represent a love interest, a giving and wise soul who’s not afraid to show their feelings. They are sensitive and unlikely to play games. For others he can be the bearer of good news, especially in business and is straightforward and fair in negotiations. A work associate or business partner will help you fulfil an ambition. AQUARIUS – The Chariot Onwards and upwards this week Aquarius! Places to be, people to see; no need to plan too much. Be guided by your intuition and you'll be in the right place at the right time to reap rewards or applause. Career wise, opportunities fall into your lap; be sure to choose what pleases you; not what suits loved ones or associates. PISCES – Queen of Swords If you need some objective advice this week then you’d be wise to seek out an Air sign woman to give some much needed clarity on an important issue. Aquarius, Gemini and Libra women are generally good at keeping emotion out of decision making, their clear head is what you need to help you gain insight into a pressing matter.

Sport Carl Frampton demolished Chris Avalos to claim the IBF super bantam-weight crown

Jezza´s Sports Report Jeremy Parmenter So, Sports fans, Spring has definitely sprung and b****y typical, just as “'er indoors!” and I are jetting off to so called sunnier climes in the Caribbean! Just for a week's break before the real summer starts over here, but good to get away before “island fever” sets in.

Cricket

As we're talking West Indies, renowned for their Cricket prowess (and where I hope to get some beach cricket in before our season here starts on March 21!) let's begin with the World Cup, still in the group stages Down Under and records falling all over the place. Firstly, Chris Gayle, the Windies opener started off with the record for the highest score, 215 in the WC, with 16 6's and 10 4's, only to be upstaged by South Africa's AB de Villiers the very next day, with the fastest 50 and 100 in the WC included in his 165. As for England, well, not a lot to say really, as we all thought that, at last, they would be getting their act together after they easily beat Scotland in their 3rd match, but, oh no, not to be! Suffice to say, having set Sri Lanka a decent total of 309, the Tigers achieved it with only one wicket down for a right thrashing. So now, having lost 3 from 4, we have to beat Bangladesh and Afghanistan to have any chance of qualifying for the Quarters. On paper, no problem, but we shall see! Best match so far? Easily New Zealand/Australia where the Kiwis routed the 'Roos for a paltry 150 odd but then very nearly blew it needing 4 runs to win with 1 wicket left. Fortunately a lusty blow for a 6 ended what had been a superb match. Slight mistake in last week's report re the England Women's T20Series also Down Under against New Zealand, as, having said that Charlotte Edward's team needed to win the 3rd and final match to win the series, got it slightly wrong as it was a 5 match series not 3. Sorry 'bout that but no matter tho', as England went on to win 3-2.

Tennis and Dubai was calling for Our Andy in the ATP tourney but, as is becoming the norm, he fluffed his lines in the Quarters. Just as well really, otherwise he would have come up against an on-song Fed who went on to demolish World No 1 Djokovic in the Final in straight sets in what I can only

describe as the perfect match for Rog and his 7th Dubai title. So there is life in the old dog yet!

Boxing Congrats to two Brit boxers this week, as, first, Carl Frampton demolished Mexican-American Chris Avalos in 5 rounds to claim the IBF super bantam-weight crown, followed by Tyson Fury retaining his European heavyweight title against Romania's Christian Hammer at the o2 after 8 rounds.

Golf Great to see two Englishmen fighting it out for a tournament win on the American Tour, as, at the Honda Classic in Florida, Ian Poulter and Paul Casey are locked together on 7 under going in to the final round. Question of who blinks first but just beware of the American challenge in 3rd. Great also to see another Englishman, Andrew Sullivan, win the Jo'burg Open by 2 shots.

Rugby Union and England's hunt for a Grand Slam in the 6 Nations is now well and truly over as they came unstuck to the wily Irish in Dublin, going down 19-9. Not a great match to be fair but Rob Shaw's team let themselves down over discipline, giving away 13 penalties to Ireland's 8, and you just cannot afford to do that when faced with a world class goal kicker like Sexstone. Lessons learnt, one hopes! Mind you, it didn't help when I received a taunting mail from my Irish aunt taking, literally, the Mickey! Elsewhere, Wales came back to form with a good 20-13 win in Paris whilst Italy surprised the Scots with a last-minute penalty try and goal to win 22-19 in Edinburgh to record their first win of the campaign. All this leaves the table with Ireland top with 3 wins from 3 and England and Wales with 2 wins apiece. On the domestic front and in the Premiership, apart from Northampton who are top by 12 points, it's getting tight from 2nd to 6th, as only one point now separates Saracens, Exeter, Wasps, Bath and Leicester, in that order.

Rugby League In the Super League, 'tis early days still with only 3 games played, but St Helens and Leeds are both showing good form with 100% records while Castleford and Huddersfield are at t'bottom with nil points.

Footie Too much to report here after a

busy week of Premier League and Europe so 'tis easier like this: Brilliant Week for: Chelsea as they won the League Cup Final 20 against Tottenham at Wembley to get their hunt for the Treble under way with goals for JT and Costa, at the same time giving Jose his 21st trophy in 10 years, and then Liverpool doing the Blues a real favour by beating Man City, 2-0, at Anfield to keep the Blues 5 points clear at the top of the Premier but now with a game in hand. Great Week for: West Bromwich and Tony Pulis, who beat Southampton 1-0 at home to climb the table, Wayne Rooney and Man Utd as he scored his first goals of the year to beat Sunderland 2-0 at OT, Newcastle Utd and John Carver as they won 1-0 at home to Aston Villa to record their first win in ages, Alan Pardew and his Crystal Palace team for their fine 3-1 win at West Ham, Good Week for: Stoke as they stayed mid-table after their win at home against Hull, Swansea who beat Burnley 1-0 in the North West. So-So Week for: Everton as they are now the only British club left in the Europa League after their 7-2 agg. win over Young Boys, but then lost in the PL at Arsenal, Liverpool as they were knocked out of the Europa League by Besiktas but came good in their PL match against Man City. Not a Good Week for: Arsenal as they were humiliated by Monaco 3-1 at the Emirates in the first leg of the knockout stages of the CL and now need a miracle 8although not impossible!) to get through but at least are up to 3rd in the PL after their 2-0 win at home against Everton. Disastrous week for: Tottenham as they went out of the Europa League on Thursday and then lost the League Cup Final, Pellegrini as Man City, 2 defeats in a week, were beaten 2-1 by Barça at the Etihad in the first leg of the k/out stage of the CL, to leave them the daunting task of winning at the Camp Nou to qualify for the Quarters, as well as losing ground in the Premier in their quest to retain the title. Finally, due to this w/end being the FA Cup Quarters, with the pick of the bunch being Man U/ Arsenal at OT but watch out for Bradford/Reading with the Bantams hell-bent on reaching the Semis, there is a full programme of Premier matches on Tuesday and Wednesday before the CL gets under way again the following week. Have a good week! Jezza.
