BrexPats Living in Limbo Land What Next?
That will be the question facing many UK ex-pats who have made their lives in Spain and elsewhere following the UK referendum outcome decision to leave the European Union. The Island has been known for its yin and yang feel, from hedonistic party to the true beauty of the sea and its magnetic draw. Toby has encapsulated this feeling remarkably with a visit to the most beautiful tea shop, where you will enjoy a bespoke tea infusion, followed shortly by a visit to a very real loud, Spanish pub serving you the best tortilla on the island. Continuing the tour in the shadows of Dalt Villa, cooling down with a creamy gelato you will discuss more history about the castle and buildings before sealing the day with a shot of Hierbas. Tapas Restaurant We love Tapas Restaurant & Lounge Bar, and it seems everyone else does to judging by the Tripadvisor certificate of excellence they have held for several years—and during that time frequently and currently the website’s number 1 restaurant in San Antonio. With no more ado, let’s get straight on to our tasting of some of the new plates for 2016.
1 of any tapas dish I have experienced. So full of flavour, and yet so subtle, the spinach, chilli, lime and coriander all came through to shine playing their part in this poetry on a plate. Note that this dish goes from ‘we’ to ‘I’ in the description. Tapas may be known as the food for sharing, but you should most certainly keep this one to yourself.
Rosemary chicken in a creamy parmesan and garlic sauce (bottom left)
Really pleased that this dish was on our order of service. It is not the type of dish I would be likely to order if choosing myself—but something of a revelation. Moist chicken in a thick creamy cheesy, garlic sauce with the Rosemary elevating it to something that bit more sophisticated. It earned the descriptor ‘heavenly’ from my co-taster who correctly pointed out it would be a great dish for children. One that could be eaten all day, but both fortunately and unfortunately we must move on.
The Aficionado
Tequila, Tia Maria, Kahula, coffee patron and an espresso shot, this variant of the espresso martini packs that extra punch and pucker up bitterness sipped through the sweet creamy salve of the frothy top. Coffee cocktails will be a love or hate option for most readers and again we had a divided table, but that brings us to the ying to my aficionado yang …..
Quinoa Salad
The only thing healthier than this in vogue salad favourite of many a celeb A-lister, is the portion size—which pushes the term tapas to its limit. But we won’t complain at that. Served with chick peas, rocket, black beans, courgette ribbons and sweet peppers all doused in a citrus dressing, the quinoa plate is light, fresh and guilt free.
Flower Power
Gin, cucumber, rose syrup, elderflower syrup and lemon juice, described perfectly by my opposite number as ‘like you are drinking India, unique and absolutely amazing’.
Pulled jackfruit and courgette noodles
Indonesian shredded jackfruit served with courgette noodles with a soy, orange, chilli and parsley dressing. For us it was a first experience with Jackfruit and so for the uninitiated here is a bit of background. Jackfruit is the largest tree-borne fruit in the world — one fruit can weigh between 10 and 100 pounds and contain hundreds of seeds that are rich in protein, potassium, calcium, and iron. It is native to South East Asia, and is hailed by some as the new miracle crop that could save the world from starvation. Wow, quite some crop then, but what does it taste like? To be honest I still cannot make my mind up. I have seen descriptions likening it to pulled pork. I get that in terms of texture, but I didn’t get a taste of pork at all. We were a divided table, one loved it, and one still didn’t know whether he liked it or not after eating the dish. That is one of the great things about the Tapas approach to dining—everybody finds their favourites.
Seared scallops pan fried on a bed of wilted spinach with a sweet chilli, lime and coriander dressing
Oh my days. Forget tripadvisor, these melting morsels of heavenly seafood have gone straight to my personal number
Marinated chicken skewers with sriracha mayonnaise
Skewered chicken with a Cajun and smoked paprika rub. The mayonnaise is spicy; the chicken is moist and juicy with an afterheat and lingering taste that suited us perfectly— though we might recommend it as the last plate on your menu selection to avoid overpowering some of the more subtle delicacies on offer.

Brexit
Page 6
(Continued from page 1) Europe. With Spain already having made overtures as to the potential outcome of a Brexit vote to its many thousand British immigrants, we will be facing a period of uncertainty, a limbo land where planning a long term future becomes very difficult. Of greatest concern will be issues such as education, healthcare services and employment rights. Andy Cox expressed the concerns of many in saying “Honestly not sure what to say. I've made my life in the Eu whilst being proud to be British, and now what do I do? Knowing what Spain (especially Ibiza) is like they will stop processing legal documents of UK citizens (frankly they have been waiting for any excuse)and life will become increasingly difficult here (not that it's easy already). Honestly worried for mine and Katie's future. But hey never mind, I'm sure with the UKs unlimited natural resources it can cope with all its expats returning on the dole because frankly they is no work for a whole load of middle aged bar men!”. Though these areas will take several years to clarify, an immediate effect is likely to be felt by the tourist industry upon which a large proportion of the British community in Ibiza rely. Holidays to Ibiza, and everywhere come to that, just got considerably more expensive for Brits. It is likely less will come, and those that do will have less to spend. At time of going to press the British Pound to Euro exchange rate had fallen over 5% at 1.24. Andy Bailey disagreed with these sentiments when we posted on social media. “knee jerk nonsense.. give it more than 8hrs ffs”. Though an eloquent rebuttal, we are in the company of El Pais' economy editor, who painted a much gloomier picture. El Pais reported that a slump in the pound was widely predicted by a report of the International Monetary Fund and that such would lead to a reduction not only in tourism from the U.K., but also a reduction in the demand for housing in which the British buyers have been seen to be an important part in maintaining some level of stability as Spain’s property
Spanish Stock Market Plunges As reported in El Pais by Cristina Delgado
The Ibex sustained one of the greatest losses in its entire 24year history on Friday, when news of a Brexit victory pushed Spain’s benchmark stock market index down more than 12% at opening time. If sustained, the Friday tumble could break the prior record for daily losses, which was set in October 2008 following news of the Lehman Brothers debacle. Acting Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy, who is facing a general election this Sunday, came out to issue “a message of calm to the markets” shortly after David Cameron announced his plan to step down over the referendum results. Rajoy said that the Spanish financial system “has solid conditions” to face the market turbulence spreading across the world. He added that Spain “makes a note with sadness” of the referendum results. Meanwhile, Spain’s risk premium – the gap between Spanish and German 10-year borrowing costs – grew over 50 basis points to reach 190 points, its highest level since February
market has struggled out of recession. There is also an argument of common sense. Forget Brexit for one moment, assume the 5% slump in sterling to the pound was caused by some bad cocaine in the city. A 5% overnight slump in sterling will have a negative affect on tourism to Spain. In any other context we can't see there being much disagreement on that. Indeed there has been much concern about the effect the tourist tax will have on deterring tourism, though the cost of the tax to visitors will be equal to a tiny fraction of the effect of the slump in sterling against the euro. Whatever the long or short term outcomes of the Brexit vote are, the views of Ibizans ranged as widely as those in the
mother country. Some were angry with the outcome. Asilef Spears said “So bang go my life savings. Used to be proud to be British. Not any more. Furious Angry Disgusted.“ Some highlighted the view that the referendum was based on grounds of immigration and race alone. Anthony McDowell said “These people moaning about immigration need to get up off their fat arses and shape their own future instead of blaming everyone else for problems in their life. Maybe try grabbing an opportunity instead of the tv remote for a start would get these lazy, useless freeloaders somewhere. We're all immigrants from the Rift Valley in Ethiopia at the end of the day, put that in your pipe and shut it! Well known DJ, Danny Rampling, one of the original advance party that lead to Ibiza’s dance music revolution takes a far more positive view. “Woken up to great change and change is not to be feared! , we're not doomed friends. The UK is just starting again on a new economic and democratic pathway forwards. Change brings opportunity to those who seek it. Fortunes are being made and lost as we speak on the stock market and currency trading. Everything recovers economically. Extraordinary day. Keep positive and push onto greater days ahead. New dawn -New Day.” Martin Makepeace pointed out the importance of the democratic process. “It's a BREXIT and the result should be respected & accepted. There may be rocky times ahead but the UK is strong & will bounce back from any uncertainty. Ultimately it was immigration and the economy that were the deciding factors and the UK government needs to understand and react to this clear message. Well done to everyone who voted. Democracy is the winner.” Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London, made a statement that if mirrored with similar in Spain, would go a good way to easing the concerns of British immigrants here. “I want to send a clear message to every European resident living in London you are very welcome here. As a city, we are grateful for the enormous contribution you make, and that will not change as a result of this referendum. There are nearly one million European citizens living in London today, and they bring huge benefits to our city - working hard, paying taxes, working in our public services and contributing to our civic and cultural life. We all have a responsibility to now seek to heal the divisions that have emerged throughout this campaign - and to focus on what unites us, rather than that which divides us.” Whether we will see any such assurances from the Spanish Government is unknown, however it is fair to say their own state of limbo land and forthcoming elections are likely to play a large part in how the political parties position themselves as to our future fate.
2014.
2014) is practically twice that of British investment in Spain (€36.6 billion). The 340 Spanish companies with a British presence reported profits of €6.3 billion and provided 75,217 jobs, while the 437 British companies operating in Spain reported profits of €928 million and employed 98,019 people, according to the Secretary of State for Trade. Spanish firms in Britain include Santander, Sabadell, Ferrovial, Telefónica and Iberdrola; some of the leading British companies in Spain are Vodafone, IAG, Altadis, BP and GlaxoSmithKline.
Bank losses
Spain’s major banks suffered serious setbacks on Friday morning, with Santander shedding 25% of its value and Bankia losing 26%. Santander has a major presence in Britain. On Friday, the Santander UK website issued a note to its clients to reassure them that “nothing has changed for Santander UK. There are no changes to the way we serve you and we won’t make any changes to our products and services as a result of the referendum without notifying you first.”
Mid-term effects
Experts said that in the short and mid-term, this market turbulence will hurt the pound, thus reducing British citizens’ purchasing power. This in turn could have an impact on Spanish tourism, since Britain is the first exporter of tourists to Spain. Spain’s housing market could also suffer, with fewer UK citizens investing in holiday homes. As for Spaniards living in the UK – a community of around 200,000 people – they will likely need to apply for work permits in order to legally remain on British territory. Corporate interests Spanish corporate investment in Britain (€62.1 billion in
Gibraltar Votes To Remain
The vast majority of Gibraltarians voted to remain in the European Union. Remain won with 95.91% of the vote, and turnout was 83.53% among the 24,117 residents with a right to vote. The result had been widely expected. The territory’s economy benefits from EU membership while allowing for fiscal benefits. Local politicians had campaigned aggressively against a Brexit.

No Way Out. The bus stops are surrounded by barriers, the only way out is to walk along the main carriageway. Photo Ade Harris
Bus-stop Buffoons! San Juan Bus Stops Built Without Exits. The Only Option Is To Walk Along Unlit Road on the Main Carriageway The major road improvement project on the San Juan Road in the north of Ibiza is nearing completion, however planners appear to have made a major gaff in the siting and design of the new bus stops that service the route. As spotted by Ibiza’s Mr Bus Ade Harris, the design of the bus stops mean that when a passenger has alighted, they have no choice but to either scramble over the newly constructed crash barriers and walk along rough country ground, or to walk in the main road carriageway. Compounding the situation, there is no lighting on the stretch of road meaning that passengers will be forced to
Unplanned Leak And Planned Works Leave The Bay And West San Jose Without Water
Tuesday 21st June left much of San Jose’s west coast without water from 9am until 10pm at night due to the scheduled works for interconnection of desalination plants being undertaken by the Balearic water agency. The planned works affected homes and businesses from Cala de Bou to Cala Vadella. The rumours had spread that the all-day cut off was due to works intended to resolve the problem of effluent pipes pumping raw sewage into the sea, however this has not been the reason stated in the water companies press releases. The problem of raw sewage has been an ongoing one in areas of San Jose. The Noudiari carried a report and video evidence of the problem on the day before the water supply cut-off, however it does not appear that the works undertaken on
walk in traffic on unlit roads after dark. Ade was in uncompromising mood when he discovered the limitations of the bus stops which are situated near Can Carune. We have bleeped his comments for the benefit of those of a nervous disposition. “It’s great putting the new bus stops on the San Juan road but did no-one think er... when you get off the last bus in the winter its going to be er ******* dark and you have no choice but to walk in the road with absolutely no ******* hard shoulder, let alone a moped/bike path etc **** me, who the **** are the urban planners here? They need a red hot poker up the ******* **** and forced to take public transport for a week.” Well quite. Ade, who has developed the Ibiza Bus App as an aid to public transport users, said the bus stop is not an isolated example. “The barrier runs from Can Curune to at least the Portinatx turn off. I walked up to Can Ramio which is just before the Portinatx turning and there are 2 more after Can Curune stop. They are the same - the barrier runs all the way.” Though tempted to laugh it off as yet another of those ‘only in Ibiza’ stories, this clearly has a very serious side.
Though those agile enough may take the unwarranted but prudent step to go over the barrier and walk alongside the road in safety, those most at risk by traffic will have no option than to walk in the road. The elderly, and parents with pushchairs will have to dice with death to continue using public transport. We asked Ade whether the busses on that route were equipped for wheelchair users who would also have an obvious problem, but he hasn’t stopped laughing yet so we are unable to give his reply.
Tuesday will do anything to resolve that problem. Coincidently and unconnected to the scheduled works, a rupture in underground pipes in the area of S’Arenal beach caused a further cut off to 600 homes and businesses from 9am until the problem had been fixed at around 2pm in the afternoon.
at the completion of the controlled campaign period, though they expect the cockroaches will die. Those complaining about the cockroaches, say the treatment does not kill the cockroaches, it simply moves the problem.
Autobuses San Antonio Sold to Sagalés
The Barcelona based company Sagalés have now acquired Autobuses San Antonio. The Catalan company already hold the concession for the much maligned bus station in Ibiza Town, together with the HF Vila’s bus company. The San Antonio buses are the biggest in terms of passenger numbers and also the oldest bus company in Ibiza; the company currently has a fleet of 18 buses and 30 staff, all of whom have been reemployed by Sagalés. Sagalés bought HF Vila’s in January 2015 following a history of disagreements with the previous owners resulting from the implementation of the Cetis bus station in town. The buyout of the San Antonio Company now makes them the largest bus operator in Ibiza.
Theft Gang Arrested Marina Traders Report Cockroach Infestation
Several business owners in Ibiza Town have reported “an avalanche of large cockroaches leaving the underground sewage pipes and entering their businesses” as reported by the Diario de Ibiza. According to the photographs taken, the cockroaches are climbing the walls and facades of houses and business premises and residents are demanding the town hall take steps to resolve the problem. Ibiza Town council have responded by explaining that what can be seen above ground is an unfortunate side effect of an insect and rodent control campaign that has been in progress for the past month by the Lokomia company. During the campaign the shock treatments applied in 6000 manholes result in the cockroaches being infected and looking for an exit, the town hall say that it will act if the need is detected
Three people were arrested following a spate of hotel room thefts in Ibiza Town, San Antonio and Madrid. National police made the arrests on Friday 17th June. The two men and a woman are accused of committing at least 38 robberies in Ibiza, San Antonio and Madrid, over the past week. In a statement issue by the interior ministry, the money recovered amounts to 11,690€ approx. half of which was stolen in Madrid and half in Ibiza. They have also recovered money in various foreign currencies and a large amount of jewellery. The system used in their robberies was said to be “rudimentary but effective”. The approach was to circumvent the protection of modern magnetic cards. The gang used a simple wire that slipped under the door and hooked onto the lower the handle on the inside. The gang targeted superior 4star hotels and booked themselves accommodation. They would then take advantage of meal times when there were no tenants in the rooms. They were said to take care not to leave any evidence of their having entered the room and so would not ransack possessions thereby leaving their victims unware they had become victims of theft for some time.

Dane Bowers at jacaranda Es Canar
Carly S Another fabulous Celebrity Sunday at Jacaranda Lounge in Es Canar last week, featuring a slick session behind the decks from former Another Level heartthrob turned DJ and producer Dane Bowers and another foot stomping, high energy performance from resident girl band Electric Dreams. This week's highlight was a dancer spinning flashing neon-lit hula hoops in the moonlight...mesmerising! Every week just keeps getting better and I'm expecting big things from the lovely Johnny Robinson who returns this Sunday after a performing very successful set of his unique, fabulous and super

Faction was not only proper busy, but as one of their new nights, way cooler that I can any longer hope to be and way younger than I think I ever was - so exactly the people a nightclub needs. Still cool though that in Ibiza we old mugs can still feel at home in a super club and who would have thought Birthday Boy Pedro Moure Gallego or I could have outlasted most of the young whipper snappers. Morning after casualty cafĂŠs continue to provide the very best laughs in life - that's a fact. Plastik Ibiza's pre-parties are now enhanced by the world's sexiest staff uniform - why do i find the simple addition of a bottle opener to the very low back hemline of a dress so alluring? The Beach Star Ibiza have done a brilliant job in developing what was basically a gps hovel into a

As said, a very rare occurrence for 2 consecutive overnights, but when it happens there is no one better than Tash to nurse you through the pain. Ibiza Town Port & Old Town are the coolest way to build your night, and best on-island escape from the goldfish bowl effect (unless you live/work there of course). Prices drop considerably just a few streets back from the harbour front. We've started from Bar Maravillas a few times. Good people watching spot - though exactly how Ibiza Town's new 'decency laws' are being interpreted is hard to figure. Both Matinee and La Troya's parades (Matinee pictured left) were hot to trot - proper erotic. That's fine with us, but short of having vegetables inserted it is hard to see how those who worry about standards of decency could have been more offended. It does seem that everything in the port closes very early now - pretty well a ghost town by 4am. Ibiza Town car parking price is shameful - approx 14am in the big one by royal plaza, 8€ for the 3 hours - outrageous, and surely encourages drivers to circle round and round town looking for on street parking, so making congestion and pollution much worse. Plus a dance -floor big enough to be called a dance-floor, bars you can get served and toilets you can, well you know. It is one of those places where every time we go we ask ourselves 'why don't we come here more often'?
Slaves Rocks San Antonio
Words Claire B Photo Lydie-Anne Hampson The opening party for Ibiza Rocks was on Wednesday June 15 with UK garage-punk duo Slaves. Support was from Rat Boy with Phil Taggart and Patrick Nazemi playing the tunes in between the bands. Chelmsford songwriter and rapper Rat Boy appeared with a full band and a large super-soaker water gun and took great pleasure in spraying water over the audience. On a hot June night, nobody minded and it turned out to be a crowd pleaser. With musical influences ranging from Ian Dury,
Squeeze, Blur, The Streets and The Clash, this was evident in his music, which was fresh and fun and delivered with youthful, energetic swagger. A great opening act and a perfect choice to get everyone warmed up for Slaves. From the moment Slaves entered the stage and burst into Ninety Nine, vocalist and drummer Isaac Holman and guitarist Laurie Vincent kept the energy and pace going for nearly an hour. For a duo, the sound and energy they let loose on the audience is far bigger than you would expect. Singer Isaac stands and thrashes his drums with a demented and rhythmic force whilst Laurie paces and poses around the stage when he’s not at the mic singing. With lots of dry ice, strobes and white lights there was plenty happening on the stage and never a dull moment. There was a bit of mosh pit in front of the stage and lots of happy punters dancing and jumping along with them, me included. It’s garage-punk for the 21st century and it’s fresh and very exciting! We didn’t get an encore and much to my disappointment we didn’t get a crowd surfing human mantaray as we did when they supported The Libertines last year. But what we did get was a great start to the 2016 season at Ibiza Rocks from two exciting bands that were full of energy and bravado.

Community Thursday 23rd June to Wednesday 28th June 2016 ARIES – Transformation New situations are presenting you with exciting opportunities. The past is dead and the only way to go is forward. You’ll feel stronger about any changes that can arise so look forward to releasing your fears. The only one who can stand in your way is you; hanging on to the old way of doing things will get you nowhere. TAURUS – Ace of Cups For some of you, this card indicates the beginning of a new love affair so if you’re available, how nice! For the attached; watch that a flirtation doesn’t go too far unless you’re prepared to accept the consequences. The spiritually minded amongst you will be gain new insight and awareness which brings an inner peace. You feel relaxed and healthy. GEMINI – Three of Swords Quarrels can lead to a separation so be aware that you or the other party are skating on thin ice. This can be within close personal relationships or with a work colleague and can bring deep distress unless you stop the rot before it’s too late. Conversely, if you are the instigator, don’t expect others to see things your way. CANCER – The Devil Don’t get wrapped up with the material side of life, remember you can’t take it with you! No one likes being around those who carp on about their problems, especially if they are the “luxury” kind. Others may be worse off than you and could be offended by your insensitivity. Don’t take life seriously, get out and have a laugh! LEO – Four of Cups You won’t feel motivated this week and boredom is your enemy. Maybe it’s time to reevaluate life and work out why you’ve lost your passion and drive. Are you feeling burnt out and need to take time out? Well start planning then! If you’re feeling lonely then it’s up to you to get out and about; break this demotivated cycle. VIRGO – Ace of Wands You want to start something new, whether it is in career or your domestic set-up. Accept social invitations as they can lead to useful contacts that can help you move your cunning plans forward. Births are also indicated by this card so expect some good news within the family or for someone close to you. Express your creativity and inventiveness! LIBRA – King of Swords This king is usually associated with legal matters or someone who offers excellent counsel. His advice is reliable so take heed to what he has to say. He also represents your own defence mechanism; especially if you feel you’re under attack or being belittled in any way. Look for air sign men, Aquarius, Libra or Gemini, to fight your corner. SCORPIO – King of Cups Someone’s subtly trying to get through to you; maybe you’re a bit over the top at the moment and need to be less abrasive and listen more. Cancer, Pisces or Scorpio men are your besties this week. If you listen to, or be guided by them you’ll have an ‘ah’ moment of clarity when dealing with difficult situations. SAGITTARIUS – Two of Wands Any problems can be sorted out easily, so long as you don’t take the moral high ground. Acting in a superior fashion won’t make you popular. If you don’t care about that, then you’ll be putting yourself in a vulnerable position. Who knows when you might need support from friends? Come out of the cold and give the world a hug! CAPRICORN – The Hanged Man You feel this week that your life is in limbo and that you’re waiting for something to happen. Well, you’re right about that! This card asks you to be patient. Something is changing but you can’t see the wood for the trees right now. Just have faith that this period is necessary for you to have time to figure it out. AQUARIUS - Six of Swords Dry your eyes; don’t look back nostalgically at the past. You’ve been through a difficult time, but the worst is now over. Out of stormy waters, into calmer seas; is the basic meaning of this card. The figure in the boat is you; leaving behind any pain. The swords represent our thoughts so take time to overhaul the way you think. PISCES – Five of Disks Financially, you may be giving yourself a reality check and panicking about your future. However, this is a helpful little card as it brings unexpected help of the monetary kind. Someone is taking care of you. Another interesting facet of this Five is that even if you’re going through financial hardship, you’ll experience acts of kindness that show you’re loved.
View From the Pew Rev. Dr Peter Pimentel
On one occasion Jesus enters a Gentile area of the Holy Land and is confronted by a worst case scenario of a demon possessed man. When the demon seizes the man, he becomes totally deranged, violent and with extraordinary strength. He lives naked among the tombs. Whilst Jesus is conducting the exorcism the demoniac says, “What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you, do not torment me.” Jesus says, “What is your name?” The demoniac responds, “Legion”. The editor of the narrative explains that his name is Legion because many demons had entered into him. The demons beg Jesus not to order them back into the abyss. On the hillside nearby a large heard of pigs was feeding. The demons beg Jesus to send them into the pigs. Jesus gave them permission. “The demons came out of the man and entered the swine and the heard rushed down the steep bank into the lake and was drowned.” (The Gospel of Luke chapter 8 verses 2639). The narrative does not tell us why or how this unfortunate man became a portal that opens up the “abyss”. In the Bible the abyss is sometimes referred to as “the bottomless pit” – the realm of the powers of darkness. This realm significantly is mentioned in the second verse of the Bible. The ancient Near Eastern document called Genesis in chapter 1 verse 1 & 2 says: “In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was formless and void and darkness covered the face of the deep.” In the original Greek text of Genesis the word translated as “deep” is abyssos” and
in the original it is tehom. These terms refer to the bottomless pit. It is a realm that predates creation before space & time. When we analyse this narrative of an exorcism in the context of the Land of Israel in the time of Jesus in the first century some interesting historical details emerge. The Roman Legion in Israel in the first century was Legio X Fretensis and consisted of about 5,600 soldiers. The emblem on their shields was the bull representing the goddess Venus and the boar! A connection is being made with pigs and the Roman occupation! At a symbolic level, the exorcism gives us an insight into the Satanic forces that lie behind the Roman Empire. Call For Public To Report Illegal Weddings & Events Held in Protected Natural Areas
The director general of nature and biodiversity Catarina Amengual has urged people to use the 112 emergency lines to report organised events being held in protected areas.
This follows complaints by a group of visitors who had tried to access the open area under the tower of Des Savinara which is considered to have one of the finest viewpoints of Es Vedra. On their approach their way was blocked by staff from the private company saying that a wedding was being held and that that area was closed.
San Jose Interior councillor Paquita Ribas, has said she was unaware that prior approval of the department of environment was required to organise an event. The esplanade is used for all types of events but Amengual said that it is included in the Natura 2000 network and therefore approval is required, especially when the movement of people and vehicles is to be expected. According to the Director, the problem is widespread and though wedding celebrations are one of the more common, there are also large parties and sporting events particularly mountain biking that are held without the necessary authorisation. She continued to say that the promoter of any such event must ask permission detailing the activity for it to be evaluated to ensure that it has no detrimental environmental impact.
In The UK Press
The Formentera civil guard has opened an investigation to identify the owner of the sea plane that landed on the beach of Sa Torreta which lies within Ses Salines Natural Park. Apart from the environmental offence committed the owner also faces charges that the plane is flying without registration. The sea plane is an ultra-light Seamax model M22. It is 10 metres wide and 6 metres long. It is understood that the plane flew throughout much of Formentera and Ibiza and was pictured beached on Sa Torreta on Monday.
Talking to Ges We asked Gerald about his holiday, and thinking we may be able to blag him some tickets, what other clubs he may want to go to. “My holiday is on 16th to 30th july. I just go to bars, I don’t like clubs anymore, they changed. My friend works in Es Vive so I go there on Sundays. I love Ibiza Sonica but never been to studio. But I’d really like to go to a bar with lots of Spanish girls—lol.” We like Gerald’s style, and thought Andy Wilson, Sonica DJ and all round good guy, might be able to help. Of course he was and has offered Gerald the studio tour or a live broadcast, plus we may have hatched up another holiday bonus for Ges—more of that to come.

Disabled Man Finds Ibiza Carers on Facebook Following Benefit Cut A disabled man who refuses to be left house-bound by benefit cuts has raised thousands of pounds so two carers can accompany him to party island Ibiza. Gerald Masterson, from Glasgow, has cerebral palsy and needs 24/7 care. He saved an impressive £5,000 to travel to Playa d’en Bossa with the support he needs. The 47-year old used to receive funding which allowed him to be cared for on holiday, and after government cuts to the benefit he launched a Facebook appeal asking for help. Gerald, who found his carers through the Facebook appeal, told the Daily Record: “I will pay for everything and they will do shifts. “One of the girls came to see how we would get on and she asked a friend of hers to go too. I’ve only met them once but we talk on Facebook and get on well. I feel everyone should be able to have holidays and shouldn’t have to worry about people taking them and how much extra it will cost.” The party lover’s Spanish trip would have been impossible if he had to pay the £14-an-hour per carer to agencies who now enforce the charge. He desperately wants to go because it will be the last chance to see his idol, dance DJ Carl Cox, perform at Space nightclub before he retires from his 15-year residency. He's launched a Facebook appeal to raise £5,000 after his benefits were cut, so he could go back to the clubbing Spanish island with two carers FACEBOOK He’s launched a Facebook appeal to raise £5,000 after his benefits were cut, so he could go back to the clubbing

Spanish island with two carers. Gerald, who also does a lot of volunteer work, usually has carers in Glasgow take him on nights out every second Saturday. But recently he’s been staying at home to save as much cash as possible for the big event. He added: “It is lonely – but Ibiza means a lot to me and I have made so many friends there that are like family to me. If I went out on a Saturday night here, I wouldn’t have the money to go away so I just stay in. I am worried about what the future will mean for funding. I just want more people like myself to be able to do things like I do. Ibiza is such a nice place, I would move there if I could. But funding is a big problem so I’ll have to stick to my holidays. I want to keep going there for the rest of my life.”

Shebizan Hey Zipstrers I’m off to Mallorca this weekend to celebrate my birthday. Usually I’m in Ibiza for the opening of Judgment Ibiza at Eden, San Antonio. That kicks off this Friday 24th June 2016 with an awesome line up and hope to see you there at some point this summer. I thought I’d have a relaxing weekend with friends on the island of Mallorca this year. Sun, sea and sangria. Always that little less manic than Ibiza – except for Magaluf of course. This week, we visit a beautiful spa in Ibiza, look at Victoria Secret swimwear and as Wimbledon commences, we check out the fashion on Centre Court over the years. It’s all here – enjoy! X
Victoria Secrets Swimwear
So here we are. It’s officially summertime, and time to reveal flesh aplenty. Or that’s the theory anyway. What should us girls (or boys) be wearing on the beach this year, in order to bare said white bits whilst they morph into a different colour? Whether you’re Balearic bound or further afield, the only colours you should be adorning, whether it’s a bikini or onepiece, are pink, black or white. If you shop at Victoria’s Secret you’ll be aware that VS has
always been a brand guaranteed to produce the sexiest, eyepopping swimwear. Not for much longer, sadly. They’ve decided to discontinue the swimwear bombshells that made the VS name synonymous with… bombshells. So it’s time to buy up before they sell up! Yep. I was gutted too. Not that I necessarily bought the entire range, but to watch an ‘VS Angel’ on the catwalk couldn’t fail to swerve anyone’s head. So, for one last time, for the sake of the VS legacy and for the beaches of Ibiza & Mallorca this summer 2016, I bring you the very last must-have VS Swimwear best-buys. Even if you don’t splash out, the pictures are good enough to dream about. http://bit.ly/28OfTZ5
Forgiveness
According to a new study published by the Journal of Health Psychology, forgiving our friends can positively impact our mental wellbeing. The health journal gave 148 young adults questionnaires in order to assess their ability to forgive in correlation with their mental health and wellbeing. Results showed that those with the most stressful social life experienced a greater negative impact on their mental and physical health. Whilst those who were forgiving of both themselves and others, did not experience a correlation between stress and mental illness. The study went on to further suggest that forgiving our friends can also help us to sleep, reduce our levels of stress and anxiety, whilst also lowering our blood pressure and cholesterol. Time to re-think our squad game... If you don’t have forgiving tendencies, you feel the raw
effects of stress in an unmitigated way. You don’t have a buffer against that stress.’ And if you’re sat there thinking you’re far too stubborn to say sorry then you have no excuse, forgiveness can ‘100%’ be learned through therapy. We best get taking tips from the Queen of #squadgoals herself, Taylor Swift...
Sleep Advice
This is a good one for clubbers in Ibiza this summer! According to new research instead of hitting the pillow to catch up on missed sleep you should - wait for it - try to stay awake. The study claims that between 70 to 80 percent of us could put sleeping problems to bed by avoiding trying to make up for missed Zzzs. The research team analysed a group of 539 people who kept
The Ibizan, Thursday 23rd June 2016, Issue 832
sleep diaries for six months. The group included 394 good sleepers, 36 good sleepers who have developed short-term insomnia but recovered and 31 who had long-term chronic insomnia. The study showed that the good sleepers didn’t change the amount of time they spent in bed, whilst those who had previously developed short-term insomnia spent less time in bed. Yet those who developed chronic insomnia spent an increased amount of time tucked up as their sleep deprival soared. Those with insomnia typically extend their sleep opportunity. They go to bed early, get out of bed late, and they nap.’ Sound familiar? Well, this seems a reasonable thing to do, and may well be in the short term, the problem in the longer term is it creates a mismatch between the individual's current sleep ability (which is low) and their current sleep opportunity (which is vast, as it has been extended)- and this fuels insomnia.' So next time you’re lying in bed staring at the ceiling and wildly counting sheep, re-consider your nap and think of all the sleep you’ll gain (eventually)… even on the white isle!! X

How rich the conversation bereft of words.
Along with my birthday, the Summer Solstice and longest day of the year (plus Wills’ birthday), Wimbledon will soon be upon us. And whilst some of us will be lucky enough to enjoy that glass of Pimms, punnet of strawberries and a match or two live from the All England Club, most of us – let's face it – will have to make do with viewings from home TV’s or our desks at work – on mute. That said, we mustn't be too downhearted. Because watching from afar can sometimes give even more access. For instance, being able to fully appreciate (and notice) Fashion moments like these... The Times Anna Wintour Has Worn Sunglasses:
I am often asked how I cope with the solitude of living up a mountain, away from humanity. Those that ask might see a small smile dance in my eyes for a moment. That solitude is to me so beautiful, so abundant that these days come the weekend, I disconnect everything - phones, computers and immerse myself in that aloneness. There is an extraordinary richness in the silence of nature - and truth be, it's never really silent. My news comes from the startled cries of the birds, my weather report from the wind upon the surface of the sea.
The Time Victoria Beckham Smiled:
I learn life - wisdoms that might otherwise escape me but rather than be conveyed in words, are presented in actions right before me - in the changing light and seasons and all that accompanies them. The way the plants respond to the light, and lizards lounge upon the rocks, the way the birds twist and turn, dive and soar upon waves of wind I cannot see but only feel upon my skin. Through the senses of touch, smell, sound, sight and taste I am granted glorious entry to a World of life and passing, of balance. To be silent myself is to know a wisdom I cannot find in any conversation.
When The Duchess Went Totally Red:

But let’s face it. It’s a British institution and with the current British political climate – it’s probably best to look at the fashion side of Wimbledon.

What happened there? The Photo says it all as Spain, looking to be on their way to top their group were stunned by a Croatia second half revival that ended in them beating the reigning European champions 2-1.
(Continued from page 16) anything else would give them a worst case scenario of 3rd and possible qualification, whilst Poland, after their scoreless draw with Germany, take on almost-out Ukraine.
Group D
Already qualified Spain lead the group after their 3-0 win over Turkey to keep up their 100% record, and take on 2nd placed Croatia on Tuesday who drew 2-2 with the Czech Republic earlier while the Czechs take on pointless Turkey really hoping for a win and a best placed 3rd slot.
Group E
Italy, with 2 wins from 2, have already qualified and face the Republic of Ireland on Wednesday and with a draw would end up as group winners with a potential next round match against Croatia but as for Ireland they need a win to have any hope of qualifying. Watch out tho' for my dark horses Belgium, ranked No 2 in the world, as altho' they lost against Italy in the first match, they at last came to the party winning 3-0 against Ireland and now face Sweden who desperately need a win to have a chance of a best placed 3rd place to qualify.
Group F
Hungary appear to be the front-runners as they top the group after their win against Austria and draw with Iceland, while it's anybody's guess as to the rest as mis-firing Portugal have drawn both their matches and now face Hungary on Wednesday whilst surprise package Iceland have a great chance of qualifying if they can get a result against Austria. So, there you have it, at the time of going to press, still a lot of scenarios to come and not sure who will play who in the k/ out round but no doubt, come the time you read this, t'will all be sorted. FINAL COMMENT: Thankfully, apart from the fracas during the Croatia/Czech Republic match which may end up with the Croats being sanctioned, no further bust-up's to report so good on you England fans but whilst you're there please, please have a word in Hodgson's ear and tell him to play his best X1 from the start of each match, which includes Rooney, Vardy, Sturridge and Alli and stop chopping and changing as 6 changes for the Slovakia game was just too much and upset the rhythm and momentum that England had built up after their win over Wales.

England Victorious In The Land Of Oz!
Hi, sports fans and afore I go in to paroxysms of delight regarding our rugby boys in Oz, “'er indoors!” and I had a very enjoyable evening last week at Pikes/Ibiza Rocks Hotel, mixing with a couple of hundred guys an' gals involved with the recent Cycle Slam, the last in a series of 3 road races covering 2400 km that have recently taken place in the Pyrenees, Mallorca and the final leg in Ibiza. The main goal of all the participants, apart from winning the individual races, was to raise funds for a number of charities in the UK including the Dallaglio Foundation and it was really great to meet rugby greats Lawrence Dallaglio (England and Wasps), Austin Healey (England and Leicester) and Mark Rigby (Wasps player then manager) and reminisce about their experiences. A few other celebs were there as well, some invited and (others not!) but turned up anyway to lend their support including one half of Wham! Andrew Ridgeley, chef Heston Blumenthal and, surprisingly, comedian Jack Whitehall who informed me, confidentially of course, that his partner in crime in the TV “sports” quiz “ A League of Their Own”, the one and only
Andrew “Freddie” Flintoff, was on the wagon! So, my thanks to Frank O'Sullivan, whose sister Maddy is the proprietoress of the famous “Lizard Bar” at Es Puet, San Antonio, for inviting us and well done to all the participants who, I understand, raised over 700,000 for their efforts.
Rugby Union
Well, what can I say regarding England's tour of Australia. Having won the 1st Test in Brisbane by a record score, we were promised more to come by manager Eddie Jones and his team and true to their word, what a performance in Melbourne. Never behind, England mounted an incredible defensive display having their try-line only breached once in 80 minutes of Aussie dominance and took the few scoring chances that came their way, to eventually win 23-7 with centre Owen Farrell scoring another 18 points, including England's second try, to add to his 24 in the 1st Test. Heroes all, methinks, but superbly led by Captain Hartley with MOM going to flanker Chris Robshaw, on his 50th appearance, England did what no other Northern Hemisphere team has ever done, win a Series in Australia and what a turnaround from the ignominy of the World Cup in England last year where they were eliminated in the Group stage and dropped to No 8 in the world rankings. Jones has done a fantastic job winning all of the last 8 Tests, culminating in an ascent to No 2 in the world and all in the space of less than a year. Remarkable but wouldn't it be great if England could go on and win the 3rd Test on Saturday to really rub Aussie noses in it and make the Series a 3-0 whitewash. Feel sorry for Wales and Ireland tho' as the former were beaten once again by the New Zealand All Blacks to be down 2-0 in their 3 Test Series whilst the latter, looking to close out their 3 Test Series in South Africa, having won the 1st Test, were beaten in the last few minutes of the 2nd Test but still have a great chance of winning the Series 2-1 at the weekend.
Tennis
and congrats to Andy Murray who won the Aegon Championship at Queens at the weekend, beating Canadian Milos Raonic 2 sets to 1, and achieved a feat that none of his peers, both past and present and including McEnroe, Becker, Hewitt and Roddick were able to, namely a 5th title at this venue, being a pre-cursor to Wimbledon. Good omen too, as whenever he has won Queens he has gone on to reach at least the Wimbledon semis.
Cricket
and after the euphoria of England's Test Series win against Sri Lanka, Captain Morgan takes over from Alastair Cook for the One Day Series starting today (Tuesday) so let's hope his team can carry on where the Test team left off with another Series win. Until next week, Jezza
European GP Nico Rosberg has won the first Formula One race held in Azerbaijan to turn the championship tide and stretch his lead over Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton to 24 points. Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel finished as runner-up, 16.6 seconds behind, with Force India's Mexican Sergio Perez back on the podium for the second
time this season after overtaking Kimi Raikkonen's Ferrari on the last lap.
Rosberg started on pole position, led all the way and also set the fastest lap on his way to a fifth win in eight races this season. With 13 races remaining, he has 141 points and Hamilton 117. While the German's cruise in the late afternoon sunshine turned out to be something of a snooze for the global television audience, triple world champion Hamilton provided more entertainment. The Briton, who had
been chasing his third win in a row but finished fifth, sounded increasingly frustrated over the radio as he wrestled with his car's settings without the team being able to help. He fixed the problem but finished fifth in a race billed as the European Grand Prix. "This is ridiculous guys, I don't know. I'm looking at my dash every five seconds trying to find a switch in the wrong position," Hamilton said over the team radio. "I might not finish this race as I'm going to try and
change everything," he continued. "We don't advise that Lewis," came the reply from the pitwall, with teams now limited on what information they can give drivers during the race. "Can I make suggestions and you say if it's OK or not?," replied Hamilton. "No, that's not allowed. Let's just get our heads down and focus on the job," he was told. The Mercedes team's nonexecutive chairman Niki Lauda told reporters afterwards that it was a question of engine modes. "It was a problem they both
had and Nico could fix it quicker than Lewis. The (radio) ban is there, so we all have to adapt," he told Sky Sports. Raikkonen, who had done as he was told and allowed Vettel to pass him, expressed similar exasperation over the radio to Ferrari. The outbursts were highlights on a day with none of the mayhem predicted after a series of accidents in the GP2 support series, in F1 practice and qualifying. Nobody crashed, the tight turns around the ancient city walls were safely negotiated
by all and the 350km blast down the long main straight produced no drama. "I think people lost a lot of money because they were betting on a safety car. I was expecting a couple too," said Vettel. Finland's Valtteri Bottas finished sixth for Williams. Dutch team mate Max Verstappen was eighth, Germany's Nico Hulkenberg secured a double points finish for Force India in ninth and Brazilian Felipe Massa was 10th for Williams.

Euro 2016
Page 16
Jezza’s Eurobureau ... Jezza's Euro Bureau (and I don't mean Brexit in this particular week!) Interesting, ¥muy interesante! is my comment thus far as we reach the final Group matches this week in Euro 2016 when the men are parted from the boys but still up in the air really regarding the first knock-out round (last 16). Good for the Home Countries tho' as both Wales and England have qualified and Northern Ireland have a good chance too.
Group A
As expected, hosts France ran out winners of the Group with 2 wins and a draw to go in to the first knock-out phase probably agin Northern Ireland, the Czech Republic or Sweden but possibly Eire, whilst Switzerland came 2nd and will face either Northern Ireland or Poland. As for Romania, they're gone but Albania in 3rd have an anxious wait to see if they have made one of the four best 3rd places.
Group B
Congrats to Wales who, following their great 3-0 win (only the 3rd team after Spain and Belgium to hit 3 goals so far) against Russia on Monday, topped the Group as Gareth Bale became the tournament's top scorer so far with 3 goals in 3, and will now face probably either Albania, Northern Ireland or the Czech Republic on Saturday in Paris.
Great result for them despite losing to England in the 2nd group match after England stuffed Bales' ridiculous wind-up comments down his throat with a 2-1 win and Slovakia stunned Russia 2-1. Mind you, the Hedgehog must have thought that the end was nigh 40 minutes in to the 1st half of that match as Joe Hart made an elementary mistake by letting Bale's straightforward 35 yard free-kick beat him to concede a 1-0 lead. So what did he do?
