It is the second fatal area on that stretch of road this year. It is understood from a report by the Guardia Civil that the 27 year old woman from London was staying in rented accommodation close by. It is not known why she was on the road at that early hour. She attempted to cross the road and was hit by a car. The driver, a 30-year-old Spanish national, was driving to work. She stopped her vehicle, though a second car that may have also hit the woman did not. An 061 ambulance and the Guardia civil attended, but it is understood she was immediately pronounced dead on the scene. The Guardia Civil gave a test to the Spanish driver which returned a positive result for Cocaine. She was subsequently taken to Can Misses hospital for a second test to be performed, the results of which will be known in 3 days. It is the second death this year on the San Carles road. On July 16th a French national aged 60 was killed, also after being hit by another vehicle. Editorial note: The Daily mail have reported this incident saying the woman was 'naked' in their headline. I t is an outrageous headline. She wasn't naked. Even the mail text in the report says she was not naked. They use the term ‘partially clothed' - which let's face it most people are in Ibiza this time of year. She has family who will have to deal not only with their loss, but also the media putting out totally unfounded slurs on her character. Shameful.

British Man in ‘Grave Condition’ After Pirate Taxi Baseball Bat Attack Saturday 27/08/16 A 33 year old British man is said to be in a ‘grave condition’ following an attack by a pirate taxi driver using a baseball bat. The department of health reported that the 061 emergency ambulance service were called to Cala Vadella to attend the man who had suffered a severe beating to the face. According to sources reported by the Diario de Ibiza, the pirate taxi driver was attempting to rob the man, and the beating left him with a disfigured face. It is said a licenced taxi driver came across the man and stopped to help him after calling the emergency services.

The Consell Insular d'Eivissa, have said they are asking the Balearic Government for support in the issue of property owners taking illegal occupation of coastline around the island. This comes following the widely reported case of a Russian tycoon attempting to prevent access to the coastline fronting his mansion in Cala Conte. The Consell’s press statement issued Tuesday 30th August says they will be asking for “maximum strength” in enforcing the regulations that keep all coastal areas in public ownership. "We know that there are more cases, in addition to what is happening in Cala Conte, and this government is very clear that it will not retreat from its obligation to defend the public right of access and use of the shoreline” said the Deputy President of Ibiza, Viviana Sans. "The duty of the Consell, as we have no direct powers to do anything ourselves, is to ensure we do everything necessary to ensure the relevant departments of the Government can act under the authority

Following our recent report on Ibiza’s very poor recycled waste percentages, certainly when compared to Formentera, we contacted the Consell de Formentera for some further information regarding their waste policies and procedures. So what can we learn from Formentera? We asked:
How has Formentera achieved such a high percentage of recycled waste compared to its Ibizan neighbours?

There are several factors that have contributed to improving the recycling rate: Awareness campaigns: Since the new contract in 2008 waste bins were removed and replaced with "ecological islands" where the citizens, at any waste collection point, have the option to separate waste by having containers divided into packaging, cardboard, glass and waste. Since then there have been numerous awareness campaigns under the slogan "Naturally Formentera" encouraging different changes in the behaviour of citizens and businesses.

The actions of these criminals result in fear, pain, suffering and loss to both our tourists and to some extent residents. In so far as the effect on tourists is concerned, these criminal acts will at best ruin a holiday—something that is for many the highlight of their year. At worst they are at risk of not only suffering financial loss, or the inconvenience of losing documents, but also the risk of mental anguish and physical harm. Beyond the human issue, it also has to be damaging to our reputation as a tourist destination. Though we residents do not have the additional problems of being a stranger in a foreign land, but we surely have every right to expect the protection of the law both through the policies implemented by government, and the delivery of those policies by the police. These problems exist to some extent throughout Ibiza though recently San Antonio has become a focus of attention. Whether this is due to the problem being that much worse in San Antonio or is a result of civil action and protest drawing attention to the area, we cannot be certain. However as unpalatable as the fact may be for some people, we cannot hide from the fact that San Antonio and particularly its West End, has historically attracted the lowest forms of criminal looking to feed on its largely young tourist clientele and their propensity to leave themselves vulnerable to exploitation through over indulgence. To put it simply, too many fat frogs and you become a sitting duck. In this article we report on two particular problems:The most aggressive of the illegal street sellers and the campaign to force the San Antonio government into taking action against them The pick pocket gangs working with what local workers and residents describe as apparent impunity in the streets of the West End. Only last week we have seen an example of Ibizan ‘people power’ in local residents taking action to secure their rights to coastline access at the Russian mansion in Cala Comte. Not only did this gain an immediate response from the Ibiza Consell, but Vice President Sans also went to the effort of thanking the local people and media for acting to bring the matter to the wider public attention. This happened only one week ago and yet it is being

presented to the full Balearic government this Monday. And so the question remains. Why? Why do the citizens of Ibiza provoke immediate action over one issue, and seem to be totally ignored in these? Though the current actions we report on here are relatively recent, we all know the problem has existed for a long, long, time. Finally in this article we look to give some possible answers to the question of why. Why it has been allowed to continue and what reasons there could be from preventing law and order being maintained when there is an overwhelming public support that it should be so.
Aggressive Street Sellers
First it is important to make a point of clarification as to the intention and target of the initiative led by San Antonio resident and businessman Martin Makepeace along with photo-campaigner Martin ‘Ibiza’ (we only know his FB name) and others. As recently reported, Martin has launched a petition through Change.org calling on the San Antonio town hall to take steps to stop the problem of aggressive street sellers. For people in other areas of Ibiza it is important to clarify the difference between the people targeted under this initiative, and what most people refer to (it is not a constructive or helpful term, but it is the term that people use) ‘looky looky’ sellers. We receive a good deal of negative comments about these ‘regular’ illegal street sellers. But the problem is limited to that of a pest. Many tourists do not like being constantly troubled by people selling sunglasses, handbags, penis-hats and all manner of nonsense. It is annoying, but it won’t kill you. But the particular problem that exists in one area of San Antonio, the Arenal beach promenade, is that of a far more aggressive and intimidating approach. The typical practice is that one where the seller will place a bracelet on the unwitting target and at the same time take hold of them and then start demanding payment. Though unhelpful in terms of perpetuating the problem, it is quite understandable that many tourists will simply pay up to avoid confrontation and interruption to their holiday. Those who do protest or refuse are likely to be on the receiving end of considerable abuse and threats, with the street sellers relying upon their associates around them for support and additional intimidation if necessary. There have also been many reports of the transaction for the bracelet developing into a distraction technique for theft from their person. This is obviously way beyond that of the ‘pest’ who routinely asks if you want to buy some sunglasses while eating your dinner. I talked to Martin Makepeace today and he confirmed it was exactly that dozen or so individuals they were looking to target in removing at least the worse of the problem. Martin told us "Aggressive and illegal street selling is a big problem that blights our town. It intimidates tourists and scares people away. It's the same suspects causing the same problems on a daily basis and many residents and people from the business community have simply had enough. Our petition has shown the depth of feelings and the sheer frustration that many have with our local government who don't seem able or willing to tackle this issue. By applying political pressure we hope to push forward the urgent need to stop these illegal activities" The petition currently stands at 2041 supporters and the second phase of the campaign to gather written complaints (denuncias) is well under way with many already completed. Several business people with interests in the West End have talked to the Noudiari regarding actions they have taken in light of the extreme problem of pickpocketing that continues to proliferate in the busy streets of San Antonio’s party central. British Ibizan resident Julian Cobby sees the very worst of this from his frontline position at Soul City which is at the

start of San Antonio’s busiest West End Street. Julian relayed the content of the interview with the Noudiari and went on to highlight the human cost of the problem. “It is no secret that many people feel the West End is San Antonio’s poor relation as far as the town hall is concerned. Some people go even further and feel there is some greater will, whether political, commercial, or both, that actually has an interest and desire for the West End to kill itself, to implode” Julian’s point is not a new one to us. There is a school of thought that some people may stand to gain considerable financial advantage if the West End could be in effect cleared for complete redevelopment without the problem or obligation of existing business interests. For Julian that leaves a greater injustice than that of the current business owners being forced into decline. “It is genuinely distressing to see, and we see it every night without fail. The number of young kids having a good time who fall prey to these pickpocket gangs. Their technique is to form what amounts to a wall, exactly the same as a players make a wall in football. As people have to force their way through, the pickpockets have got the contact they want, andy do their worst. “They are clever enough to know who is a good target. When those of us that work here approach you will find them parting like the sea before Moses, but for the youngsters, it is another story. “It is so sad and so unfair to think that if there are greater powers at work, these visitors to Ibiza are left as casualties in that game.” The interview given to the Noudiari is summarised here:

Businesses Fight Back in West End West End Businesses Face Gangs who rob tourists due to lack of police presence Businessmen in the West End have decided this summer to confront the gangs of thieves themselves, with the help of their own security staff where the gangs congregate at the exit of the West End in Calle Santa Agnès, near the taxi rank. As explained by four of the bars owners, the lack of members of the local police, but especially the lack of Guardia Civil, allow some 30 or 40 people, mostly Romanian and Moroccan in origin, acting at the exit of the West End stealing wallets and the phones of tourists, who then decide not to go into the area for entertainment due to the lack of security. Bar keepers of Soul City, Julian Cobby; Faces, David Martin; Koppas, Jose Torres, and Bar Stereo, Juan Torres, have come together to make this public denunciation, after going “40 times" to the San Antonio Town Hall and get the same response to no effect, and that in the area as reported, the Guardia Civil never appear. According to David Martin, the integrity of tourists is "in danger" by the actions of these gangs picking "certain age couples who have more money, they have watches and have wallets/purses". "One holds up the woman, another, the man, they corner them, rob them and beat them," added Martin, who said that "the Senegalese prostitutes do the same job". Julian Cobby explained that many of the thieves "are professionals" who extract money from tourists bags, and then pretend to have found it on the floor. The Soul City Manager estimates that "at least 50 mobiles and 50 wallets/bags are stolen every night” at the exit of the West End. Backed by street vendors Two weeks ago, the business men themselves decided to confront the gangs with the help of their security staff and Senegalese street vendors, who claim to feel supported. "Look how it is, that the Senegalese have to defend us. We have to unite with 'looky lookys' because we are powerless. They give us no problems, do not steal, they sell glasses and other things, but that's your problem. We will often quarrel with Romanians and then come 20/25 Senegalese to support us. We feel safe with them, look at what the situation has become; to have to get together with ‘illegal’ people’” added David Martin. “One week we were down every night to try to take down the gangs of thieves. One of the nights, they called the police on us and within five minutes two cars came, the Guardia Civil and local police came to talk to us. And when we call the police, they don’t come ", criticized Julian Cobby. They denounce lack of security around San Antonio however, according to the manager of Stereo, Juan Torres, the problem of the lack of security affects all of San Antonio and not just the West End. "It is no longer a problem in the West End, but in San Antonio in general. At four o'clock you see around and look in every corner of the town, a Romanian, a Moroccan

or a prostitute. And all notify each other, they see a drunk and already there are the prostitutes and Romanians who come to steal, because they do not act alone, "he explained. Moreover, it should be noted that inside the West End "it is safer" because both businessman and Senegalese vendors are responsible in trying to take down the gangs of thieves from the streets of the area. "Even the Senegalese around here catch the thieves. In fact, now the West End is safer than another area, because sellers know that if the Guardia Civil come they will not be able to work, and as they do not want people to be robbed, they catch their necks and tell them, 'get out of this area, that they are watching’," said Torres. According to the manager, "the situation is hopeless" because the hotels recommend to its clients not go to the West End because of theft, but not only the area itself, but all the people "are dangerous" and they have never seen it. Businesses recognise that the problem of the lack of security is not new, but they explained that there may have been "three or four" thieves and now that has increased up to “30 or 40”. "We had a few private security officers, had nurses and now we don't have anything. We are left in the hand of God. We have less police and Guardia Civil than any other year" criticized, David Martin who also noted that he has been working nights here for 25 years. According to Julian Cobby, “the tourists are suffering because of a problem between the Town Hall, the Businesses and owners of the West End".

These two campaigns highlight the worst of the current problems. There are more. Prostitution and theft via prostitution has been an ongoing issue, as has the sale of drugs. Different people will have different ideas as to where the line should be drawn in what is considered a problem. If we are to include ‘regular’ illegal street sellers, how can we not include, for example beach fruit and drink sellers, hair braiders etc? We must also think whether it is fair to differentiate between illegal sellers and the PR’s employed by many of Ibiza’s clubs and bars all of whom are, under new regulations, illegal in San Antonio. Similar issues, working illegally considered by many to be pests, we could not exclude them just because they live in our own community? These are relevant points, but they are details. For most of us, I think it is fair to say the problem that we cannot understand is, when it is allowed to continue to beyond that of pest, when it becomes predator. The petition organised is a great initiative and a very good way of mobilising people’s interest and participation. However I personally feel that it is not enough in this situation to simply demand that our power masters ‘do something about it’. This is where the greatest mystery aspect comes in. We all know they should be doing something about it. They know they should be doing something about it, and they know that we know that they know they should be doing something about it – if you see what I mean?

There is a reason, there has to be a reason. I have spent a lot of time thinking about it, not because I have some obsessive interest, but more that it is by far the most common subject of news/current issue in my inbox and in social conversations. Here are my list of possibilities and thoughts. I have one hour until faithless get on stage and so I hope I do not miss any, but the purpose here is not to provide a definitive answer – I do not think that is possible – it is to try to highlight that things may not be anything like as straightforward as we think. Is that our problem? It is our problem if we want to fix these issues. At the moment, nobody can say with any certainty why these obvious and known problems are not dealt with. The most effective way of changing the situation has to be finding out what is stopping the authorities from acting and in whatever way working with them or against them to remove those barriers. Indifference We talk of overwhelming public support and interest, and certainly that is reflected in my communications but we must ask ourselves whether it is reflected in the Spanish community - at the end of the day politicians are most interested in votes. Is this a vote winner? For example, though in no way scientific, I looked at the comments on the petition very quickly. Of the 60 I scanned, only two appeared to be from Spanish people. I was also mindful of the reclaim San Antonio platform party that now shares power in the town hall. I have seen numerous posts of theirs regarding the problem of over indulgent tourists harming San Antonio’s reputation but in scanning their facebook timeline dating back to June I didn’t find any mention of street crime, pickpockets etc. Remember that these crimes are committed mainly to tourists. Do the Spanish see it as an big an issue as we do. Collective will for san Antonio’s implosion This is mentioned in my conversation with Ju.ian Cobby as mentioned earlier on in my article. You could argue that it fits in terms of the specific problems of the West End, but it would not explain why the aggressive street sellers on the promenade are not tackled. Lack of policing This is a real problem, and pone I have come to understand much more since taking over my current job. It is extremely difficult to recruit Guardia Civil to Ibiza. Why would they want to come? Taking into account that they are not allowed to work in the area they originate from, they would have to be moving here without any family resources and accommodation etc to rely upon, and hence would face hugely inflated living costs compared to that in most other areas of Spain. They would also be taking on what most would surely consider the least attractive areas to work in in the people you are dealing with, and in a self-fulfilling problem they would be working in an area with inadequate numbers to do the job. Policing in Ibiza is the equivalent of teaching in a deprived inner city, nobody wants to do it. Despite this understanding I do not personally feel this is the reason. In other areas of crime the police have a demonstrable track record of reacting when things get too much with a period of intense focus. A good recent example of this is when Ibiza suffered a spate of rural burglaries. A huge amount of attention was focussed on the problem to placate the local people and even if the police numbers are insufficient for ongoing control of the situation I feel sure the would have had a few stings to keep the press and public at

bay. Incompetence I cannot make any comment as to the current politicians in power at san Antonio town hall however in relating this as a possibility I can make mention of a meeting with the immediate past mayor and her civilian head of police. I was frankly amazed at the lack of comprehension of the problems on the streets. I got a genuine feel that they were frankly clueless and had no idea of the problem, or how to handle it. I hope that is not the case now. Shady dealings Possibly the most frequent reaction I receive is where people are saying that somebody is on the take and being paid to turn a blind eye. Do I think that is the case now? In reality no. from first hand testimony of people here long before I, I could well accept it may have been the case in the past, but although it has some way to go my gut says this is not a case of euros stuffed into briefcases being shared amongst dark and embellished suits. Status quo Another way of saying this one is blackmail. It is frankly one of my more extreme and unlikely scenarios but if nothing else it will show you I have tried to think of anything, however crazy it may seem, such is the complete mystery as to why nothing is done. Imagine a scenario where a power master in government or uniform has a communication channel with a leader of whatever criminal gangs are operating. There is a status quo agreed whereby in return for turning something of a blind eye, they agree to keep their level of operation at its current level, again I accept this is a bit off the wall but how would it be if the leader of that ganga threatened if they were not let alone they would turn prostituati9on into an aids epidemic and low quality cocaine into heroin. Just a thought. Powers bigger than the powers above Having thought through all of these options and trying to work them through, this is my best bet. I have absolutely no evidence to go on. It is simply the one that I cannot put a hole in. As Sherlock Holmes said ,‘when you have ruled out all other possibilities, the one remaining, however unlikely is the truth’. What are they going to do with them? It is all very well demanding they are dealt with, but what do you do with them? They are rounded up, taken off the streets, but to where? We are talking about a lot of people many of whom will not have any immigration status here and the outcome will be minimally very expensive and require extensive periods of internment for it to be in any way effective. In a politicians mind however, an even greater consideration than the cost would be the political controversy of such a move. What are we looking at? Deportations? Prison? Or simply to put them through the system and let them back on the streets, in which case what have we achieved? I am not saying this is right, it is just my best guess. You can make your own. There’s a new kid on San Antonio’s ever expanding and improving marina block, and it’s the kind of cool, good looking, popular kid everyone wants to be friends with. Rio, formerly The Pussycat, is three floors of stylish glass, steel and white concrete architecture housing a lounge, restaurant, club and roof terrace. It has something for everyone and, unlike many of its Ibiza port side compatriots, is open to all ages and pockets. In the fresh and elegant white and orange restaurant we were seated between a holidaying British family, a cosmopolitan group of bright young things conversing in various languages, a trio of mature Ibicenc men and a Spanish couple dining with their children. Sipping cocktails in the chic yet comfortable lounge were holidaymakers straight from the beach, people dressed elegantly for the evening, singles, couples, groups, families and even a couple of celebs, all mingling freely and contributing to a warm and inclusive atmosphere I hadn't expected from a place which looks so exclusive. This warmth spread to the staff that had certainly taken on board the old adage of ‘service with a smile’ and were incredibly welcoming, from the friendly hostess who showed us to our seats to our charming and knowledgeable waiter, Angelo. He presented us with a chiefly locally sourced menu that was as diverse and welcoming as the venue, boasting a fantastic variety of starters, seafood, meats, fish, salads, pastas, veggie dishes and even kids’ meals, all incredibly reasonably priced. I am never good at choosing food, especially when faced with such a fabulous selection of mouth-watering dishes full of local ingredients, so asked Angelo for his recommendations. He didn’t hesitate in recommending the seafood starters and then recommended four of five mains he thought were particularly good. We plumped for scallops and a trio of fish tartare for starters, the fish of the day and duck for mains and ordered a bottle of the Elbufon white recommended as an accompaniment to our choices by the ever attentive Angelo. Whilst we waited we sipped our crisp, fruity wine, nibbled on fresh crusty bread dipped in a delightfully different wasabi infused alioli and watched the bustle and buzz of the busy restaurant, lounge and fiesta filled street outside. Now, onto the food. My goodness, the food. It was a treat for all the senses. Visually our starters were gorgeous. The pink, white and purplish tartare of tuna, salmon and prawn were served on a bed of vibrant green rocket, topped with crisp brown strips of zingy fried ginger, crunchy white beansprouts and bright pink and orange edible flowers and drizzled in a balsamic crème and fresh citrusy oil and accompanied by an eggless mayonnaise with tiny alfalfa shoots. I almost didn’t want to spoil the look of the dish by eating it, but I’d arrived hungry so dug in after just a moment’s hesitation. The raw fish was sublime. Melt in the mouth textures of delicate prawn, meaty tuna and almost silken salmon. The flavours of the ginger, bean sprouts, rocket and dressings were the perfect compliments and every bite a taste sensation. The scallops nestled atop a smooth and lightly spiced pumpkin cream and scattered with juicy juniper berries which burst in the mouth, were equally delicious and cooked to soft, sumptuous perfection. The duck main was served with skin-on baked potato slices, a crisp side salad, lime marinated raw button mushrooms and a rich and unctuous wine and red onion sauce. According to my husband, meat was tender and tasty and sides delicious, particularly the firm and delicate tasting mushrooms. My aptly named ‘mantequilla’ fish was a plump and juicy fillet of buttery textured subtly fishy perfection, drizzled in a parsley butter and served with potato slices and an interesting salad of green leaves, fried ginger strips, brown olives and flowers, dressed with a very olivey oil. Top marks once more. Tummies full, we were just discussing moving on to the lounge for a cocktail, when the lovely Angelo returned with a palate cleansing hierbas and a dessert menu. After protesting that
we couldn’t possibly eat another bite, we saw a chocolate fondant with raspberry cream and fresh cranberries staring up at us from the glossy pages of the menu and decided that perhaps we could squeeze in a shared pudding after all. We were so pleased we did. The brown dome of spongey goodness sat on a pool of fruity raspberry gorgeousness and oozed rich, warm chocolate yumminess as we inserted a spoon. Spectacular. The only way it could possibly have been any better as a dessert would have been if it were carried out by a semi naked Tom Hardy. Next we made our way into the adjoining lounge where we chatted in the ambient, subtly lit surroundings and sampled two of the cocktails that the super smiley, welcoming and friendly Emily recommended we try. She wasn’t wrong in suggesting these. Rio is blessed with a cocktail wizard behind the bar and he made the most delicious whiskey sour for me and the ‘best long island I’ve ever tasted’ for the Mr. And believe me, this is no small accolade, he’s tasted a lot of Long Island’s in his time. I sipped it (just for research purposes, of course) and can confirm it was truly fantastic. The roof terrace was being inaugurated that evening, coinciding with the always amazing fireworks for Saint Bartholemew, so we made our way up the black marble and glass staircase, passing through the super chic glass fronted and marble floored club on the way. We didn’t stay late enough to enjoy the club in full swing but were very impressed with its swanky appearance; from the gleaming black marble floors to the swish automatic sliding glass doors of the marble fitted, luxurious, attended bathrooms, the ambient colour-shifting lighting and incredible panoramic sea views through the glass walls. Quite a few people were already gathering there as we descended from the roof terrace after the fireworks, including a couple of well-known DJ’s. I’ve no doubt this club will soon be on the hit list of every night-time visitor to San An, from the sailors venturing across from the marina to young clubbers, celebrities and chic internationals, and well it should be. The terrace opening was the main event of the night and it was packed with families, groups, couples, singles, locals, tourists and residents of all ages and nationalities, sipping drinks, chatting, sucking on beautiful glass shisha pipes with mesmerising lights on the bottom as they bubbled and taking in the magnificent panoramic views. Manager Kieran escorted us to a cosy circular bed in the corner where we relaxed and sipped our cocktails under the starry sky. A softly lit bar in the corner served drinks as smiling staff ferried them around and the music the DJ was playing on the floor below was piped through the speakers as a backdrop to the hum of happy con-
versation and laughter. The roof terrace at Rio was the prime location from which to take in the jaw dropping display and it echoed with oohs and aahs as the sky exploded in a cacophony of colour and light - a perfect end to a perfect evening. Rio is an absolute must visit, whether for breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks, views, chatting, lounging, celebrating, dancing or romancing … the only truly all-encompassing venue of its kind which looks set to redefine San Antonio. Care4Cats Ibiza is making its biggest appeal in its history. They are currently raising funds to start the Eivissa Animal Centre. This huge project will encompass all aspects of animal care, control and education. And they need your help to make it happen! The international centre will serve two main purposes: first a fully equipped veterinary clinic with a small shelter for the most extreme cases of abandoned, abused and sick animals. The second purpose will be to house the Care4Cats charity. This is a centre for the island and the animals that inhabit it and it cannot be created without help from island residents. The centre will be created by the purchase of a shop in a central location, almost solely from donations from incredibly generous animal lovers and through a range of fundraising events. They have currently raised a little over 105.000 euros out of a total of 300.000 euros that is needed. Dear readers and dog owners, today I would like to talk about the connection between dog and owner, the human error and how problems arise. Some of you will experience this every day: - my dog is aggressive since 6 months - my dog wants to protect me permanently - my dog is aggressive towards other dogs - we cannot invite guests anymore, because our dog is constantly intrusive towards them. What happened ? No one seems to have an answer. These misconducts are only symptoms (results) for a relatively long way from false communications between owner and dog. Usually there is a whole package of misbehaviour of the dog: - pulling on the lead - not listening - always run ahead – jumping at people, etc., etc. I hear from most of the dog owners: "My dog is actually a very well behaved dog, there are only a few things I don’t like”. Misbehaviours of the dog are always results from the wrongdoing of the owner and here is a classic example: Rex comes as a puppy into a family. He is sweet, all family members love him and playing is the main part in the daily routine. The children go to school, the parents are working full time and Rex is left to himself. He is in the garden during his solitude and the whole day there is nobody around him, who gives him guidance or discipline. What is going on in the dogs mind? Dog thinks, ok I dig a few plants out and chew them and then I dig a few more holes, that is fun! The dog owner comes home, sees the mess, is furious and screams at the dog. Dog thinks: What’s wrong with him ? Dog lies down on his back and shows his packleader his total submission. Owner remains upset, the dog doesn’t understand and is showing his ultimate submission and urinates. Now the owner flips and smacks him for his behaviour. The dog is now totally confused. This is an example of absolute misunderstanding of the dog owner, because the dog only shows his need to be understood. We Humans cannot expect our dogs to understand our confusing way of communicating ... It is not enough to love your dog and wrongly allow him a lot of freedom. A dog needs leadership, boundaries (discipline) and exercise, brainwork or a job (discipline and exercising), and of course affection, but only in the proper consistency and order: Exercise (40%) – Discipline (40%) – Affection (20%) It is my task, to make people to understand their

Dear Nick, I enjoyed reading your article in the 25th of August issue about your son’s reaction to that Olympic race, and a little sad to hear that children (and I dare say some adults) have negative associations of black people on Ibiza. You also posed a very interesting question: Why are black people under-represented in the British community on Ibiza. Whilst I don’t claim to have all of the answers, I can hopefully shed some light from my own experiences. I am black/British and have been visiting Ibiza now for some years and will continue to do so. I simply love the place. One of the main reasons why I feel there is underrepresentation originates from music, or at least the musical genres that are usually associated with Ibiza: techno, edm, dance etc are not seen as predominantly ‘black’ genres or ‘genres of black origin’. Music doesn’t have a colour I know however I mix with folks from all races/ backgrounds and I have heard this said a few times. I’ve always felt that Ibiza, who thrives on the spirit of inclusiveness, has always had a golden opportunity to tap

into uncharted musical territories, and this is changing with nights in locations such as Las Dalias, Sankeys Applebum and Swag Club Black Mondays – reggae, and hip hop respectively. Venues such as Ushuaia and Ibiza Rocks are showcasing more grime, hip hop and rnb artists. House music which originated within African American/gay subculture has obviously increased in popularity over the years. Garage is now making an appearance. It’s all a step in the right direction. It’s a shame that some children growing up in Ibiza experience negative black stereotypes. One of the ways we can bring about positive change, aside from education, is through the one thing that we know and love Ibiza for the music. It was great to see an increasing number of colours getting happy and messy together at Ants recently. And we can’t help but feel proud that the legend that is Carl Cox is still knocking them dead after all these years...not because he’s black…but because he’s British. Original Ibizan Material I came across this great photo of two Ibizan originals. The chap on the right is Arthur. He used to hang around Bossa Beach/ Bora Bora, I guess it was 2004/5/6 I knew him. I bought him breakfast a few times and he would always seek me out later with some form of gift - a promo cd or an abandoned airbed or some such. Bless him, he had issues. I don't know the name of the one on the left but he'd pop up everywhere. Bossa, Benirras, the Port. He was always completely off his face, I mean just so messy, a crazy, crazy guy. I'd known him a year or two when one day he sat down on bora bora beach in front of me and pulled out a recorder, put it too his lips and played a long and beautiful tune with such a delicate touch. At the end he just looked me straight in the
eye and gave me the biggest smile. He joined us for a while and we were happy to share drinks and put a bit of tin in his pockets. Not long after he headed off I noticed he was at the centre of some kerfuffle on the crowded bora bora terrace. Next moment he was flailing around like a whirling dervish swinging big haymaker punches. It took a good few security guards to take him down. I last remember seeing him staggering through Ibiza airport wearing just a pair of y-fronts with a completely ruined bocadillo tucked in the waistband. People often speak of Ibiza's tolerant reputation, but for these two and more like them I don't think tolerant is an adequate adjective. These characters were not just tolerated, they were respected. Despite sometimes being a pain, it was kind of like they had an absolute right to be
a bit of a pain. This humanity was one of the values I fell in love with about Ibiza. That Ibiza has now largely gone. Seeing this photo of Arthur and Crazy Hippie Recorder Guy, it hit home to me how quickly the island has changed so much. I get all the progress stuff, but none the less, seeing this photo I think it's a real shame. Xx Postscript: Perhaps we have not changed that much after all. I am pleased to report that having put a request out for info as to their welfare it seems both are alive and kicking. Arthur (as he always called himself though of course actually Arturo) is seen round and about Ibiza Town, and Crazy Recorder Guy was spotted last week at Benniras, in the words of Anthony McDowell, ‘looking really cool’.

shows two or three times a season and today was without doubt the finest I´ve ever experienced. It was banger after banger (for those of you who don´t know a banger is a song that is extremely tight or just unbelievably awesome. It is a banger!), and the 150 or so in attendance loved every second of it, they (I/we) literally had the boat rocking. As the sun set, Sebastian gave an appreciation speech to all his Refune crew which he called them all his family and of course thanked everyone on the boat for coming out. At this point I did feel a little bit emotional and to be honest lucky. Sebastian Ingrosso was and probably still is one of the biggest names in the dance industry. He has played at the biggest stages and festivals in the world even selling out Madison Square Garden so to play on a boat to 150 people must so different but it didn´t seem to affect him one bit. His energy, his presence during the whole day was amazing. Jumping up and down, talking to the crowd and drinking a copious amount of Hierbas. I think it shows how much he still loves doing what he does and how much of a professional he is (well maybe excluding the Hierbas part!) While we headed back to San Antonio, Ingrosso played his last few tracks to bring the mood down as the party came to a conclusion, playing an acoustic version of ´Don’t You Worry Child´ and finished his set off with ´Sun is Shining´. It was definitely a day I won´t be forgetting anytime soon and we was even lucky enough to catch a selfie and a quick chat with the Sebastian. Reggae Rant
Nick Gibbs I didn't know this annoyed me so much until I started to write a comment on another post about DJs playing to people that don't want to listen. Turned into quite a rant. But I stand by it, and clearly needed to get it off my chest. "The Reggae bar on Reggae Beach in the bay of San Antonio has been forced to close (why is not so important*) resulting in a nondescript euro-bar the opposite side of the beach seizing the opportunity to drag their speakers outdoors and bring their own brand of unpaid-dj-ness to the abused eardrums of bathers who are now force fed an all day audio diet of nondescript euro-house delivered through pot-luck-levels and pol-pot speakers via an amp that fulfils spinal tap's desire for a number 11. The only upside is that due to the music making me want to punch as many people as possible I have rediscovered psychobilly, and that as the 'Reggae' in 'Reggae beach' is now gone it will soon be called 'beach' and nobody will be able to find it. (*though why it was closed is not relevant, it is a shining testament to ibiza 2016. The reggae bar chiringuito built an illegal vip rooftop terrace, drawing attention to the fact the whole thing was illegal and hence getting closed down. I mean a funking rasta vip terrace ffs, utter madness)" ...and breathe.
Skrillex Ibiza Rocks, San Antonio
Words Claire B, Photo Emir Hasham Last Wednesday Skrillex, aka Sonny John Moore, the American electronic producer/DJ made his debut @ Ibiza Rocks. With a pedigree behind him of playing guitar and singing in a number of bands, including being the front man of post-hardcore band From First To Last, it seemed that there was more to him than just being a DJ. Also on the line-up was Radio One DJ Phil Taggart, DJ Icarus and DJ Patrick Nazemi. Quite why there was a line-up solely of DJs on a Wednesday night when they are normally scheduled to play at W.A.R. on Fridays I don’t know, and it was a little disappointing to be deprived of some proper live music. However, despite this, I went there full of anticipation to see what Skrillex was all about. I missed Phil Taggart and DJ Icarus as I accompanied a visiting friend to see the sunset in San Antonio and for some reason the guest DJs were on really early that night. Patrick Nazemi kept the music going whilst the main stage was prepared for Skrillex and his equipment. At 10pm Skrillex made his appearance dressed from head to toe in black - quite early for the headlining act, but the venue was packed. Surrounded by LED panels that displayed an eclectic and quite simply stunning array of images, the younger than usual crowd quickly had their phones out to capture the moment and were
soon bouncing up and down. Streamers and CO2 cannons were launched almost as soon as he took to stage, adding to the spectacle. The crowd was also filmed and occasionally played back on the screens, not something I’ve seen before at Ibiza Rocks and it added a nice touch. With almost his own genre of music, dubstep beats with lots of electro, high-pitched samples and effects over the top, it’s a high energy ride in the extreme. He was jumping up and down waving his arms in the air, jumping up next to the decks along with the music and occasionally taking to the mic to gee up the crowd a bit more and they were with him all the way. Musically there were a few surprises mixed in amongst his own tunes, including The Eurythmics ‘Sweet Dreams (are Made of This)’, a bit of reggae/dancehall and Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, which saw him standing up next to the decks waving a large Spanish flag above his head. He’s much more of a showman than most superstar DJs, having learned his craft from fronting bands over the years. Overall, the night was an assault on the ears and a feast for the eyes and I enjoyed it, despite not getting the music 100% (give me a guitar band any day)! But the atmosphere in the venue was electric and no-one was untouched by what they had experienced. Skrillex in action on the night:

Captain Morgan's England team got off to a flyer last week in the current ODI Series against Pakistan. Starting at Southampton for the first match, in the series of 5, they won by 44 runs under the D/L method and for those of you who don't understand this system which is brought in when there is a rain-affected match, tuff, as I ain't going to explain it, as (a) I don't have the time and (b) I don't understand it myself! Suffice to say England won to take a 1-0 lead in the Series, and then at Lords at the w/end they did even better, winning by 4 wickets, after a Root masterclass, to go 2-0 up with 3 to play, at Trent Bridge tomorrow (Tuesday), Headingley on Thursday and finally, Cardiff on Sunday. So, the Series could be sewn up with a win tomorrow but one win out of the remaining 3 would give England a Series win setting them up nicely for the one-off T20 next week. On the domestic front, in the ODI Cup semi-finals, t'was heartbreak for our Graeme Cooper, ex-captain of Ibiza CC, as being a Yorkshireman thru' and thru' and convinced in his own mind that the Tykes cricket team are second to none, his team were knocked out by Surrey at Headingley and will now face my team, Somerset, or Warwickshire, who play the other semi later today, at Lords in the Final later this month.

and after his magnificent Olympic and Wimbledon exploits, Andy Murray starts his quest today (Monday) for his second US Open, the final Major of the season and what a great chance he has, as World No 1 Djokovic is having, for him, a seriously poor summer, having been knocked out early at Wimbledon and Rio, Federer is out due to injury, Nadal is not nearly at his best and altho' Cilic, Del Potro, Wawrinka and Raonic are still there, they shouldn't on paper cause too many problems for the World No 2, as he aims to reach his 4th consecutive Major final. Rugby League and what a great Challenge Cup Final took place at Wembley on Saturday, as Hull FC, in top spot in the Super 8's, took on the might of Warrington, 2nd in the 8's, with many predicting a really tight and physical match. And so it turned out to be, but credit to Hull, as facing a 10-0 deficit they fought back magnificently to win 12-10 and take their first Cup Final at Wembley.

After what seemed a long summer break with Hamilton leading the Championship, the Belgian Grand Prix was always going to be a battle for supremacy. However with Hamilton taking penalties and starting at the back of the grid it was up to Red Bull and Ferrari to challenge Mercedes. Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg won the Belgian GP, followed by Red
Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo on the second spot and Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton on the third spot, fighting his way up after starting from the back row of the grid. The race started badly as Max Verstappen crashed his Red Bull into Ferrari of Kimi Raikkonen who in turn hit Sebastian Vettel. All the three cars were damaged as Verstappen lost
With an international break coming up this w/end as England, under new manager Big Sam Allardyce, hope to erase memories of their unbelievably poor Euro '16 performances, with their first Russia World Cup '18 qualifying campaign starting off on Sunday against Slovakia in Trnava, time for Pep, Antonio and Jose to have a mini-break, being the only 3 managers left in the Premier League with a 100% record after 3 matches. Pep's Man City lead the table on goal diff after their 3-1 win at the Etihad against woeful West Ham (out of Europe already and only one win in the league), Conte's Chelsea are 2nd and seem to be getting back to their best, led by a revitalised Eden Hazard, after they dismantled Burnley 3-0 at the Bridge while Jose's Man Utd squeaked a 92nd minute winner to win 1-0 at Hull. Hats off to Koeman as his unbeaten Everton side are up there too, in 4th, after their 1-0 home win against bottom-of-the-table Stoke, Tottenham in 5th drew 11 at the Lane with Klopp's inconsistent Liverpool, and even Arsenal looked a bit more like their best as they won 3-1 at Watford despite, and here's a miracle, Mnsr Wenger getting out his cheque book, at last, and forking out 50 odd million for two new players from La Liga. Elsewhere Middlesboro' continued their unbeaten start with a 1-1 draw at West Bromwich, same scoreline at Selhurst Park between Crystal Palace and Bournemouth, same again at the Dell (I don't care it'll always be the Dell for me, Dave!) between Southampton and Sunderland and, last but not least, Champions Leicester got their first win of the season, 2-1 at home to Swansea. Interesting draw in the Champions League qualifying groups which took place last week as Pep returns to Barca with Man City and also has to go to Celtic, Champions Leicester got a pretty easy group and should at least qualify in 2nd to Porto, ditto Arsenal with only Basel to worry about, and ditto Tottenham with only CSKA Moscow to concern them. In the Europa League draw, Man U should get through to the 2nd stage as they are in with Fenerbahce and Feyenord, and Southampton will expect to qualify second to Inter Milan. Finally 'tis the last few days of the transfer window, so expect a flurry of millions of Sterling from a host of clubs in all the leagues, both at home and abroad and gotta finish with even more congrats to Real Madrid's Ronaldo as he beat off competition from Gareth Bale and Antoine Griezeman to win the UEFA Award for Best Player in Europe for 2015/16, mainly due to him leading Portugal, against all the odds, to the Euro '16 title and for winning the European Cup for Real Madrid for a record 11th time. Not a bad Double then and definitely getting one over Snr Messi and Barca! 'Til next week…

Force India’s Nico Hulkenberg finished fourth, again missing out on the maiden podium finish. His team mate Sergio Perez from Force India finished fifth, followed by Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel sixth place. McLaren's Fernando Alonso, who started last on the grid, finished a superb seventh. Williams' Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas were eighth and tenth respectively, while Kimi Raikkonen of Ferrari, who was also involved in the triple car crash, finished ninth, Thus completing the top 10 of the Belgian GP. On the podium Rosberg praised his teammate’s efforts in coming from the back to finish third and we witnessed Mark Webber drinking champagne from Ricciardo’s boot. This is the Rosberg's sixth victory of the year, the 20th of his career, and his first at Spa-Francorchamps. But for everyone else, the race turned out to be an ill-tempered affair. In the championship points table, the world champion is led by Lewis Hamilton sitting with 232 points to Rosberg’s 223 and Ricciardo’s 151. On the constructor's table, there hasn't been a change, apart from the Force India's brilliant performance. With the 22 point gain, they have a total of 103 points and now sit at the fourth spot ahead of Williams who have 101 points. Next race, the eagerly awaited Monza Italy, Sunday 4th September.

Ibiza Rocks Carnival Sant Bartomeu Fiestas
Sant Bartomeu is San Antonio’s patron saint, and the fiestas in his honour run from 18th August to 4th September. During that time there will be all manner of arts, dance, music, sports and cultural activities and events, with some geared specifically to children. Ibiza Rocks, San Antonio, Wednesday 7th September From the Soundsystems of Jamaica via Notthing HIll, Carnival is coming to Ibiza! Ibiza Rocks have teamed up with Radio 1's king of the dance, Toddla T to create a unique pool party experience with all the colour, energy, sounds, and smells of Carnival. The Ibiza Rocks Carnival vibe is rooted in Reggae culture but with their own twist of the island sounds, with everything from Dancehall, Bashment, Grime, Garage, Drum & Bass and House all thrown into the pot. Expect the Ibiza Rocks Hotel Pool to be transformed into a Caribbean playground, with decor, production, colour, whistles, horns, inflatables, body painting, dancers and plenty of jerk chicken, dutty whining, skanking and twerking on offer!
