AirBnB Claim New Tourism Law Will Cost Balearics 550â‚Ź Million The Private Property Rental Portal Claim the New Tourism Regulations Will be a Disaster for the Balearic Economy AirBnB have announced that the Balearic economy could lose more than 550 million euros per year under the new tourist rental regulations.

They state families on the island stand to lose 100 million euros of that figure.

This follows changes to the law that hold the websites responsible for allowing the advertising of private properties that do not hold the correct licences.

The Island Consell have had little success in tackling the

issue by pursuing the property owners direct, but now it seems that the fear of huge fines up to 400,000â‚Ź has had an impact, with thousands of properties being withdrawn form sites including AirBnB in the past two weeks.

Aptur sent a letter to its partners in which they warn that fines of up to 40,000€ are in effect for those who rent apartments without a license for more than 30 days, and those who announce themselves as holiday rentals without having the correct authorisation from the Tourist Council.

Outstanding Bookings The apparent concern of many homeowners is what to do with existing bookings? When they were made it was already illegal, but largely ignored. It seems many are removing their adverts however will, in all likelihood, honour bookings and hope for the best while they are fulfilled.

Thousands may have gone, but thousands certainly still exist. We searched AirBNB for 4 people for 5 nights 18th to 23rd September. We looked at Marina Botafoch, known as one of the most prolific areas of illegal apartment renting. We specified an elevator, the one filter that would only return apartments (which by definition cannot be legal), and 158 were returned as available in the small area visible on the map. We looked through 6 and none had any information on licencing, and none replied to our message asking for confirmation of their tourist licence.

Thousands of Illegal Apartments Removed From Holiday Websites, But Thousands Remain.

The current legislation which is in force prohibiting tourist rentals in private apartments was first inaugurated in 2012 through the then PP of José Ramón Bauzá.

For 5 years since diferent administrations have struggled to enforce the legislation. Their efforts have been largely ineffective and have resulted in few prosecutions. Those in the business of renting illegal and unregistered properties to tourists have had little reason to cease their activity. If they were one of the tiny percentage who did get caught, Ibiza’s current market combined with the complicated and lengthy legal process would result in them making more money in rental income than the maximum fine possible over the course of the 3 years it would take to be heard in court.

During those 5 fives the Consell have introduced special reporting initiatives, employed more inspectors, and even had a besoke computer programme written. None have had any significant effect.

However following the Balearic Government adopting a line of fining the website on which the property is ad-

vertsised, it seems that corporate level fears of huge financial sanctions are doing the job of stopping the practice of illegal rents without the need for inspectors or length legal proceedings to ever come into play.

The approach of fining the websites for hosting unlicensed renters has been in place in Berlin and then more recently Barcelona for some time.

Since the legislation of a maximum 400,000 euro fine has been in place, websites including market leader Air BnB, are offering far less properties than before. The Consell puts the reduction in the thousands.

Dual Liability The website portals are liable for fines of up 400,000€ if they allow adverts of apartments with no tourist license, and the owners themselves can still be liable for 40,000€.

Subsidised Apartment Owner Faces Fines For Illegal Tourist Rentals The Government has opened a file against the owner of a subsidised apartment who rented it on AirBnB The ‘landlord’ faces penalties of up to 3,000 euros for each time the apartment was rented to tourists.

The Government, through the General Directorate of Architecture and Housing, has opened a sanctioning file for the tourist rental of a VPO apartment – government subsidised housing - after an anonymous complaint sent via the internet.

In a statement, it is specified that according to the current legislation, the person responsible for the rentals faces penalties of up to 3,000€ each time the apartment was let out to tourists.

The fines can be imposed by both the General Directorate of Architecture and Housing, for the rental of a subsidised house, and also by the Consell de Ibiza for leasing an apartment to tourists.

The Consell de Ibiza released a statement saying they had also opened proceedings for the tourist rental of a VPO apartment that was listed on Airbnb. The proceedings were initiated following to an anonymous complaint received via the tourist inspection email inspeccio.turisme@conselldeivissa.es.

As a result of this complaint, the inspectors of the Consell verified that the house was indeed advertised on Airbnb. On the site, the property offered various services like breakfast, shampoo, an internet connection, towels and added that you could book for nights. They also confirmed that, according to the information that appeared on the apartment listing, the ‘landlord’ had rented it at least a dozen times. The Consell de Ibiza has informed the Delegation of Finance and the General Directorate of Housing of the Balearic Government

British Lad, 21, Killed While Walking In Middle of Road Nr San Rafael Tunnel A young British man age 21 years, was hit by a Peugeot 107, and from accounts received, is likely to have killed him immediately.

road near the San Rafael tunnel. Important to clarify this – not the central reservation, he was walking actually in the middle of the road, between the two lanes.

Several cars had narrowly missed a collision before he was struck by the Peugeot around three a.m Sunday

20th July.

The 3 occupants of the car all sustained minor injuries. The driver gave negative alcohol and drug tests.

Resident Darren Candy was witness to the aftermath of the crash.

Darren passed the scene and later said he had seen

what looked to be a fatal crash. “There was a body completely covered in a sheet, that can only mean one thing”.

The accident occurred at 3am, at kilometer 9 of the EI-600 in Sant Antoni direction.

Darren described this as just san an side of the San Rafael

tunnel.

061 reported that the victim had severe multiple trauma.

When the advanced life support ambulance arrived health personnel could only confirm the death.

There is no indication why the young lad was walking down the centre of the

road. Inevitably people will draw conclusions.

The British consulate are in liaison with Next of Kin. Our thoughts are with the family of the young man who lost his life, and also with the driver and occupant of the car, who will also be suffering.

Jet Employee Robbed Of 157,000€ In Bank Doorway The National police are looking for two hooded men who assaulted and robbed an employee of the Jet Apartments who was paying in the money.

The incident took place on Monday at 10am when the man went to enter the branch on Pedro Matutes Noguera avenue in Platja d'en Bossa, two men with covered faces and fake firearms hit him on the head and stole the money.

parently spoke in Spanish with a Latin American accent. They escaped in a van.

The Jet employee was taken to Can Misses where he received several sutures for his head injury.

There have been no arrests announced and employees of the bank saw nothing. The Jet Apartments are keeping any further details quiet so as not to hinder the police investigation.

“Awesome” Plans Released for Es Parc de S’illa The 3,500 square metres space is located in Can Misses, and designed for children up to the age of 12.

Parc de s’illa’ will have a bike track, rock climbing facilities, zip wire, adventure playground & rest areas.

Areas will be created for the different age groups of children and building will start in October with a budget of 400,000€ The park is modelled on Ibiza itself and will have zones called The Sea, The Coast, Dalt Vila, The Fields & Villages and ses Salines.

The new park of Can Misses includes a cycle circuit that surrounds the entire facility, which will have a total of 3,500 m2, an adventure playground and zip line, which was one of the most important requests of the children, a sports area , A play area for children and another one in which a central castle is included. There is also an area for young people from 9 to 12 years old

with sports courts, rock climbing and another rest area for picnics with shade, tables and chairs from where adults can see the park. The colour of the pavement will be used as an identifying element to differentiate spaces by age so that the equipment evolves from the most infantile games to the games of the eldest children.

The winning project is designed by architects Silvia Sánchez, Carlos Velasco and Luis García and the work will be tendered in the coming months.

It is a great result from the collaboration between the children of San Joveria, Can Cantó and Can Misas schools and Ibiza’s Department of Education.

Ibiza’s Firefighters Have Had A Very Busy Summer

Suspected Serial Forest Fire Arsonist Arrested.

A 27 year old Spanish national has been arrested on suspicion of starting nine forest and agricultural fires in Sant Josep and Sant Antoni, including the fire on the 8th August which burned 8 hectares of forest mass.

After appearing in court on Wednesday 16th August, he has been released on probation.

Members of the Civil Protection Service (Seprona) of the Guardia Civil who

have been conducting investigations into the fires are certain that fires recorded early in summer in various areas of Cala de Bou and Sant Josep de Talaia have the same modus operandi.

The Guardia Civil, in collaboration with the different local police authorities, environmental agents and in particular with citizen collaboration, were able to identify the man which led to his arrest Monday 14th.

There’s trouble brewing at San Antonio Town Hall after Councillor Juan Jose Ferrer, who was responsible for town planning, resigned from the government team with immediate effect.

Rumours of a rift within the 3-party coalition first surfaced last week with reports of a stand up public row between Ferrer and Deputy Mayor Pablo Valdes.

The row was about the implementation of the new laws regarding the removal of terraces in San Antonio with Ferrer in favour of a phased in approach taking each

establishment on its merits while Valdes and Aida Alcaraz, (Councillor for security) wanted a more uniform hard line approach.

Sr. Ferrer’s ‘PI’ party has now given Mayor Jose Tur 1 month to rewrite the pact that saw the 3 parties come together to oust the PP party from San Antonio or they will withdraw support for the coalition and leave the 2 remaining political parties, ‘PSOE’ and ‘Reinicia’ to govern in a minority with 10 seats between them on the 21-seat council.

2,700 Years of Wine Production Our recent feature on Ibiza’s beer wine and spirit manufacturers sparked quite a lot of interest. Having looked at some of the suppliers we thought a more in depth look at Ibiza’s wine making history and culture.

Quite a long history it turns out to be, with vine growing and wine production recorded as early as the 7th century BC. With 2700 years’ experience, we must know what we are doing.

History The area where grapes are grown and wine is produced with the Ibiza regional wines label is the island that lends its name to this geographical indication. Vine growing and wine production on the island of Ibiza date back to the 7th century B.C. during the period of Phoenician activity there. Drinking vessels and amphorae have been found from the period that was used by the Phoenicians for storing Ibizan wine.

According to Juan Piqueras (1986), during the Punic period, most wines consumed on eastern mainland Spain, in what is now known as the Valencian Community, were transported there from Ibiza in Phoenician amphorae. In Punic times the inhabitants of Ibiza had quite a good knowledge of vinegrowing and wine-producing techniques, to the extent that, according to Pedro Saez (2001), it was the islanders who introduced viniculture to nearby mainland areas. The presence of Romans on the island led to improvements in vine growing and wine production, with the introduction of new growing techniques and improved wine-making systems.

Wine Importation The 19th century was the peak period for viniculture. In 1862 France, a leading producer and consumer of wine, was

plagued by philoxera. As a result, the country was forced to import massive quantities of wine. Given Spanish wines' reasonable prices and the ease with which they could be sold for distribution in France, this represented a big boost for the sector. According to information recorded by Archduke Louis Salvator, in 1867 there was an important vinegrowing and wine-making business on Ibiza, with vines covering an area of over 45 hectares and wine production reaching a figure of 232 hl. In the late 19th century philoxera began to appear in the region, killing off the vines.

This, plus EU incentives to pull up large numbers of vines in exchange for subsidies, has greatly hindered the recovery of the vine-growing and wine-making business. Even so, Ibiza's agricultural workers persisted throughout the 20th century, continuing the business up until the present day. Proof of this is the "Sant Mateu Wine Festival", held in December in the town of San Mateu.

San Mateu Wine Festival At the festival, which is attended by people from all over the island, vine-growers present the new young wines. However, it was not until the 1980s that the real wine revolution began in Ibiza, when two wine producers who grew their own grapes decided to place their bets on quality and invest in modern technology for their wineries. An important landmark in the history of Ibizan wine is November 15th 1996, the day when the Government of the Balearic Islands approved Decree 197/1996, by virtue of which the vinegrowing region of "Ibiza" was created and use of the Ibiza regional wines indication was regulated. In the year 2003, with the promulgation of Decree 54/2003, which repealed Decree 197/1996, a new regulation was passed regarding the use of the "Vino de la tierra de Ibiza" indication. This incorporated the possibility of wines made with one single variety of grape, using Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah for the reds and Malvasía and Chardonnay for the whites. It Ibiza regional wines - Balearic Islands - Agrifoodstuffs, designations of origin and Balearic gastronomy also introduced new quality parameters and a new quality control system.

At present only a limited number of wines are produced

with the Ibiza regional wines indication. Consequently they are directed at a select group of clientele and are not easily available in all markets.

Geographical & Climatic Setting Orographically, the island of Ibiza is characterized by two groups of mountains rising no higher than 500 metres. In the mountains that form these two ranges there are little valleys that are well suited to the cultivation of vines. Formed by limestone, dolomites and loams, the land is mainly composed of reddish-brown clay soils with a horizon with a chalk crust. This wine-producing region has a dry subtropical Mediterranean climate, characterized by many hours of sunshine, hot humid summers and winters with mild temperatures. It has a low rainfall, concentrated in the autumn months.

The Wines' Characteristics From among the different wines with a Ibiza regional wines geographical indication, we should highlight the reds made with Monastrell grapes, a variety traditionally grown on the island with a good degree of adaptability. These are clear, bright, cherry-red to dark-cherry coloured wines, with a predominance of aromas reminiscent of ripe fruit (strawberries) and strawberry fruit gums, and a hint of perfume (above all thyme, on occasions). Traditionally thyme has been used to prevent the fermentation vats from becoming blocked and so it could be said to be an especially identifiable feature of Ibizan wine. In the mouth these are full-bodied, heavy, wellrounded, warm wines with a long finish and a hint of liqueurpreserved fruit. As for the whites, the ones that stand out are those mainly made with Macabeo grapes. These are wines with a good lemonish or straw colour with aromas of ripe fruit (apples) and flowers. They have a fresh, refined, well-balanced flavour, passing well through the mouth and ending with a very ripe fruity finish.

Guardia Go The Extra Mile At Monochrome Mountain Rhian King

The Guardia Civil carried out a drug control on the access road to a mansion in es Puig de sa Creu last week after receiving notice that a ‘clandestine’ party was taking place there. At the top of this Hill is made up of four chalets sandboxed, driven at the time by a Kuwaiti real estate entrepreneur with businesses on the island, of which one is being managed by the Israeli promoter Monochrome for the clandestine celebration.

The Guardia Civil confirmed and checked videos uploaded to social networks that this was where the famous DJ Solomun celebrates his afterhours party.

The villa party began early in the morning and invites guests to a meeting point, where in turn they are picked up and driven to the location, in this case on the Esplanade on the Jesus public school road. AT the meeting point were around 20 people, some sniffing white substances in their vehicles. When asked where they got their tickets, they said in the club (Solomum).

After 5 minutes, two Mercedes vans arrived to ferry the party goers to the villa. One of the owners of the rental company stated that the vans could only be used by private individuals and that ‘making transfers’ could only be carried out by taxi drivers or chauffeured transport companies.

A minimum of seven vans turned yesterday to make trips of roundtrip to the mansion who organised the clandestine party, located less than ten minutes from the heart of Jesus, shortly after the estate of Can Fornet.

The Puig de sa Creu hardly has neighbours in the vicinity and there is video surveillance on the access road and notices stating it is private property, although the first part of the road is public. After a couple of curves, and in the middle of mountain, two security guards were there with string/rope closing off the road.

Shortly after midday, the police arrived and without judicial authorisation could not access the property itself, they performed a sound test (sonometria) and the

music was within the allowed parameters. The two security guards, both wearing the Monochrome name and logo (a rhinoceros) said it was a simple ‘birthday party’, when they were asked if Solomun was playing, they denied he was there but admitted he had come earlier in the season.

Guardia Return With Backup Plan In videos posted on social networks an hour after the sound check, it was verified that the party was held in a makeshift nightclub, a large room with a pool covered with a mobile dome and about two hundred people. In the video, DJ Acid Pauli was playing – who had played alongside Solomun at a nightclub in Ibiza Town.

The party continued and at 5pm five Guardia Civil agents arrived in three vehicles, accompanied by a German police officer and an Italian Carabinieri (both par-

The checkpoint was after the first couple of curves and they randomly checked the partygoers. In the searches they found different bags with white substances, in addition to pills.

In the testimonies recorded by the Guardia Civil, some people stated they had bought entrance to the after party from someone in the club. A female waiting to be registered by the Guardia Civil wore a bracelet with rhinos that formed the Monochrome logo. “Solomun gave it to me” It was not the first time she had attended a Solomun after party and said there are “about six a season, for 150-200 people”.

The Guardia Civil have lamented at the difficulty of fighting these black market parties which only advertise by word of mouth because they can only be sanctioned if there is a sale of tickets or drinks.

Lala Sniffs Out Her Man San Antonio’s police dog Lala detects drugs in a subject carrying more than 120 grams of marijuana and Crystal Meth

The dog Lala of the Local police of Sant Antoni collaborated on Sunday night in the arrest of a person for possession of marijuana and crystal meth amphetamine.

The arrest occurred around eleven o'clock on Sunday night after the officers observed on the Paseo de S´Arenal a man acting suspiciously, who tried to make a getaway when he noticed the police team.

The dog who accompanied the agents detected the presence of narcotics in this person who, after being frisked, was detected two bags of crystal meth amphetamine, some smalls bags of marijuana, plus a bag of larger size containing more than 120 grams of marijuana.

The subject, who has a record for crimes against public health, was detained.

News Night Scents John Hitchin

The night garden is a place of pleasure and relaxation for many. There is an obvious connection between having dinner or a few drinks around the pool to relaxation, as well as the peace and tranquillity that can be found once the sun has gone down.

There is also the affect on mood that plants can have in the evening, one of the main things being scent.

The citronella more commonly known as lemon geranium gives off more scent in the evening especially if it is sprayed with a fine mist of water.

This plant also has the added attraction of being able to repel mosquito's as they do not like the smell of lemon.

Some of the other scented plants have a stronger smell at night.

Honeysuckle, jasmine, nictoniana slyvestris (part of the nicotine family) verbena, budlelia davidii and the evening primrose flower.

One of the plants with the strongest night scent is known in Ibiza as the Dame de Noche which is called cestrum nocturnum in Latin. It is an evergreen shrub that can grow to about 4 meters. It is part of the solanaceae family (the potato family). The flowers are some what disappointing as they are quite small. It has a small berry that develops after flowering.

They are quite easy to cultivate so well worth the effort because of scent and will do best in a light too sandy soil which will retain some moisture. They prefer a soil with a neutral PH value.

Pruning the dame de noche is quite easy as it can be cut back to about one meter above the ground in

the autumn. This will encourage vigorous growth in the spring and more flowers than if not pruned at all. They are easy to train along walls simply by tying back to wires or trellis. Unfortunately some people are allergic to their scent which can cause problems with breathing after inhalation. Ingesting this plant may also cause symptoms of fever.

The brugmansia is another plant that has a much stronger scent at night.

This is the shrub that has large trumpet shaped flowers about 6 inches long that hang from its branches this plant is often mistaken for a datura which has the same flowers but they stand upright and do not grow as high as the brugmansia which can grow to two or three meters tall.

Wisteria’s also thrive in Ibiza. Famed for their abundant flowers, the wisteria is best trained over a pergola or against a wall, but always best near seating to enjoy it’s wonderful aroma which is again is stronger in the evening.

An Ibiza garden, planned for night time use with careful thought about lighting and planting will be well used in the summer months.

Positioning mosquito netted hammocks and beds in proximity to your scented plants can give the best night’s sleep imaginable, and all without the need for unhealthy air conditioners.

Plan your garden for scent and reap the rewards long after the darkness of night has masked the visual beauty of your plants and flowers.

Ibiza’s Security Upgraded The Sant Antoni town hall has undertaken a series of actions to reinforce the security of the busiest tourist areas, like the Passeig de ses fonts and that of Ses Variades, in the face of the terrorist threat and the recommendations from the Ministry of the Interior to take extreme precautionary measures.

In particular, municipal employees reviewed the bollards that are already installed in the Passeig de ses fonts and in s'Arenal to see if they should be replaced with new ones.

In addition, the town hall has reinforced certain points that lacked protection, which is why more obstacles have been placed, said a Town Hall spokesman. They have also closed some sections that were continually

open to prevent a vehicles access.

Large boulders have been placed between the promenade and the Ses Variades car park to prevent the access of vehicles in this tourist zone.

Another point in which preventative measures have been carried out has been the area of Es Caló des Moro.

Sant Antoni Ton Hall explained that they had planned for other reasons, to place bollards to cut access to this beach, but with the recent recommendations of the Ministry of Interior, they have decided to advance this security measure.

In Santa Eulalia, the town hall resettled the flowerpots of the Paseo de S'Alamera to prevent the passage of cars in the pedestrian zone.

Air BnB Warn of Economic Disaster for Balearics.

The platform has released a statement showing that AirBnB generated 400 million euros to the economy last year, so the moratorium, which prohibits ‘shared housing’ “could drastically reduce the benefits of local businesses”.

According to the AirBnB estimates, each family renting a home with the portal will lose around 833€ per

month and there would be a negative impact on tax collection.

The tourist rental platform has warned that the moratorium will have "disastrous effects on the family economy of the Balearic Islands, local shops and small towns".

The impact on smaller towns is because 70% of ads in AirBnB are outside the main tourist areas, according to the platform.

Ryanair 9.99€ Flights

If you are planning to travel to the UK between November and January this year then you NEED to read this.

Ryanair are offering a winter promotion with flights from 9.99€ on more than 100 routes to the UK, including several from Spain.

In Spain, the promotion includes routes to airports such as Glasgow, Newcastle or London Stansted from Barcelona, Reus, Madrid, Valencia or Castellon.

These promotional rates will only be in effect until midnight on Monday 28th August on the company’s website

The Director General of AirBnB in Spain and Portugal, Arnau Muñoz, is trying to assure that the platform is "part of the solution to the challenges of mass tourism created by large hotel chains" and has argued that "it helps to build sustainable tourism that benefits local families and their communities."

Face Of God—Two Silver Amulets An ancient Hebrew blessing refers to the face of God that shines with mystical light:

“T

he Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his face towards you and give you peace.”

Some scholars think this has to do with the sunrise shining directly into the temple at the great festivals at the spring equinox for Passover and at the autumn equinox for Tabernacles. This ancient Hebrew blessing is found in the Bible (Numbers 6:24-26).

Two silver amulet scrolls containing this ancient bless-

ing were discovered during excavations in Jerusalem in 1979-1980 by Israeli archaeologist Gabriel Barkay. The amulets have been dated by Gabriel Barkay and his team to the 7th Century BC. The inscription is on very fine silver and rolled like a little scroll just about the size of a credit card.

The words in these two silver amulets are, at the very least, 400 years older than the earliest biblical manuscript from the Dead Sea Scrolls! That the words of this remarkable blessing were inscribed on silver is interesting in the light of another biblical text from the Psalms: “The words of the LORD (Yahweh) are pure words, like silver refined in a furnace on the ground, purified seven times.” (Psalm 12:6).

Gabriel Barkay was a professor at the Bar Ilan University, Tel Aviv. The 7th Century BC date of the amulets, by Barkay and his team, is based on palaeographic (the formation of the individual letters) and orthographic (the spelling of the words) analysis of high resolution images of the text.

The antiquity of the amulets testifies to the authenticity of the biblical tradition in Numbers 6:24-26. The next verse (27) says: “Thus shall

Welcome to this week’s fashion blog. Sob sob, it’s my final week in the Balearics this summer holiday. I’m in Mallorca for the last few days and we’ve hit mosquito season. Having avoided sunburn and retention of white bits all summer, now nights are spent itching and scratching.

To those of you stuck on the M25 in the rain on your way to work, this is probably one of those problems you couldn’t care less about. But sleepless nights are not a great way to end a holiday for anyone, and it’s the one negative of being located somewhere coastal in the Med. So I investigated some unusual mosquito repellents and some theories so stop these ugly red bites from spreading across our skins.

Here are a few interesting solutions: On the hunt for a new perfume? Kill two birds with one stone by dabbing on some of Victoria’s Secret Bombshell Eau de Parfum. In a study of various mosquito repellents, researchers found that Victoria’s Secret’s delicious smelling Bombshell perfume kept the yellow fever mosquito and the Asian tiger mosquito away for roughly two hours!

This is a real anomaly in the world of perfume, since mosquitoes are usually attracted to floral, fruity scents. But not so with this mosquito repelling perfume. Mosquitoes hate it… and it smells good to humans.

Mosquitoes are drawn to carbon dioxide, so hanging out with people who breathe more heavily than you do, might keep the mosquitoes away from you. Larger people and pregnant women are top choices.

Blood-suckers have also been shown to be attracted to beer drinkers, so getting a large, beer-guzzling BFF might do the trick.

90’s Chain Mail

The 90s brought us many a trend, from crop tops and chokers, to dungarees and grungy plaid shirts. All of which have come back into fashion - much to our horror/delight.

And if that era was your heyday, back then you might have tried to copy Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell in their mini chain mail dresses, complete with diamond jewellery and dramatic silver-blue make-up.

Well guess what? Those little mesh frocks are back in various forms, and it's all thanks to Gucci and the Kardashians.

When the Italian fashion house showcased their crystal bodysuit at Milan's AW17 Fashion Weekback in February, chain mail proved to be a popular choice for Coachella, with Rihanna showing off the look with a Gucci tee vest and ripped shorts.

And reality star Kim Kardashian is the latest to don the glittering one piece, showing off her curves on Snapchat for a photoshoot. But the mumof-two is no stranger to the skimpy material.

Younger sister Kendall Jenner is also a fan of the look, stepping out in a glittering LaBourjoisie chain mail dress to celebrate her 21st birthday last year - reminiscent of Paris Hilton's party outfit back in 2002.

While most 90s comeback trends are easy to wear, this is one you should proceed with caution. One wrong move and you could end up flashing more than you intend to, not to mention it's not the easiest of fabrics to sit down in - ouch.

It’s A Crotch Bling Thing

There’s a bizarre new trend of crotch charms, straight out of Japan making fashion waves on beaches everywhere. They hang down from the bikini bottoms for added bling.

Seeing a recent online post about the new fashion, one girl wrote: “What the hell did I just read? I haven't clicked the link yet... I'm scared to”.

The post sparked a brilliant response from other women – and a few gross suggestions.

One wrote: “Just accessorise a tampon string with some clip-on earrings and you can easily recreate this look!”

I suppose if they're laid across underwear and dangled it wouldn't be too bad... still a bit weird though.

It all reminds me of the 1970s S&M novel, The Story Of O. The heroine has a loop ear-ring type thing attached to her intimate area, with a long gold chain on it, and some bloke leads her around like that. Yuck.

The uncomfortable looking jewels, which start at £15, are made by Japanese company BoDivas and marketed as “sexy charms for bikini crotch”.

From the 4th to 10th Circolar will be opening their marquee for a Circus/Workshop with all sorts of fun and games on offer. This will continue at weekends throughout the winter.

Then on Sunday 17th September it's the annual Playing For Change Day, one of the biggest musical events held on the island, with 40 bands playing from mid-day to mid-night. It's a day when musicians from all over the world play for free to help raise money for disadvantaged children to learn to play a musical instrument in the hope that this brings peace and education through music. The island of Ibiza, and Cala Llonga in particular, are extremely proud to be part of this worldwide event. We will have more information about these in next weeks Ibizan.

Bloop Festival

The Bloop International Proactive Art Festival is on now in Ibiza and continues until September 9. An avant-garde

project from Biokip Labs (based in Milan), the world’s first proactive art festival came to life in Ibiza in 2011. Based on the ethos that “art is for everybody”, everything in this fiesta is entirely free. The aim is to encourage the general public to reflect on current social issues through breathtaking that is understandable for everybody. For its 7th year the event will move its hub to Ibiza Town, but there are also some events in San Antonio. The festival this year encompasses gigantic outdoor murals, design, interactive installations, video mappings, music, parties, workshops for children, special events and more. The festival theme for 2017 is Changes reflecting the rapid and vast changes contemporary society faces through values, lifestyle, politics, technology and the environment.

Large-scale murals are painted on buildings around the island as part of their Open Air Gallery and so far two have been created for this year’s festival in Ibiza Town. Mexican artist Spaik has decorated the Es Soto tunnel with a snake, to

Back to little, old me this week, after Our 'Arry's guest report last week and, as usual, already late for Our Ed's deadline so here we go!

Cricket; England On Top Against Windies!

Yes, as many pundits expected and despite my reservations, England duly thrashed the Windies in the 1st (of 3) Tests at Edgbaston, the first ever day-night Test using the pink ball in England, by an innings and 200 odd runs. Led superbly in the first innings by a mammoth 243 from Cook and a brilliant 136 from skipper Root, accumulating a total of 514-8 declared, the Windies were skittled out for 168 in their first innings and then, forced to follow on, a paltry 137 in their second innings. Great bowling by first Anderson who took 6 wickets in the match and then my old mate Chris Broad's son Stuart who took 5, on the way overtaking Sir Ian Botham's mark of 383 wickets, a milestone in Broad's career. So, one up and on to Headingley for the 2nd Test starting on Friday and a win up there would not only give England an unassailable 2-0 Series lead but would be their second Series win of this summer after their 3-1 win over South Africa – great practice for the big one, the Ashes Down Under in the winter.

Rugby Union; England Through Semis Of The World Cup!

In the Women's World Cup, currently being held in Ireland, after wins against Spain and Italy in the Group stages, England needed to beat the US in their final Group game to go thru' to the Semis as group leaders and duly dispatched the Yanks scoring 43 points to take their place, as holders and favourites, in the Semis where, on Tuesday, they met old enemy France for a Final place. T’was a cracker particularly as France and England have history, England won 20-3! Mind you, looking at the England scrum there are a number of ladies there that I certainly wouldn't want to upset down a dark alley but, c'mon ladies, follow England's women cricketers lead and win against New Zealand in the World Cup Final!

Golf ; USA Win The Solheim Cup!

Staying with the fairer sex, it was the bi-annual Solheim Cup, ladies golf's equivalent of the Ryder Cup, last week and despite high European hopes, the US won comfortably to record back-to-back wins after their win on European soil in 2015. Held at Des Moines, Iowa, the Americans won with plenty to spare by 5 matches from the 28 played but a big well done to both English ladies, Charley Hull and Georgia Hall, the former now a seasoned veteran and the latter a rookie, as they showed real skill, talent and determination throughout the competition.

Must be doubly pleased as well, as old enemy Naaarwich lie in 17th, having only won once from 4, after their 4-2 loss to JT's Aston Villa.

In the Premier League, Jose's Manchester Utd continue to lead the way, after their 2nd 4-0 hammering, this time at luckless Swansea but my only word of caution, Jose, is just remember last season when Pep Guardiola's City went 10 unbeaten games from their first 10 and only ended up in 3rd with nil trophies! Mind you, I can definitely see Utd winning the League this season with the pace, guile and defence they have but, still a long way to go. In the match of the w/end Tottenham made their league debut at Wembley, their season long home as the Lane is being redeveloped, but despite having 68% possession and 15 chances they lost out 2-1 to a resurgent Chelsea team who actually scored all 3 goals, with one being an own goal to bring Spurs back to 1-1 with 8 minutes to go. Arsenal took on Stoke in the Potteries and promptly lost 1-0. After Our 'Arry's comments last week regarding Everton's Wayne Rooney who, he said, looks a much better player in blue than red and scored in his debut, he scored again to give the Toffees a 1-0 lead against Man City at the Etihad. Short lived tho' as Pep's lot came back to secure a 1-1 draw while Liverpool, still in a tug-of-war with Barca over Coutinho, limped to a 1 -0 Anfield win over Crystal Palace, their second loss from 2. There was a cracker at St Mary's as Southampton beat struggling West Ham 3-2 to cement the Hammers at the foot of the table, Brighton suffered their 2nd loss from 2 as they succumbed 2-0 to Leicester at the King Power and finally, Watford continued their good form as they beat Bournemouth 2-0 down on the south coast.

Finally, in Spain, after Real Madrid's second leg 2-0 and aggregate win 5-1, over Barca to win the Spanish SuperCopa, La Liga started at the weekend with champions Real, Ronaldo-less, doing a 3-0 hit job at Depor, whilst Barca started their campaign with an easy 2-0 home win over Seville's Real Betis.

XIII Fiesta de Cartagineses y Romanos

Wed 30 Musicaires Swing Band Concert, Placa de s’Eglesia, San An, 9pm A collection of classic 30’s swing music.

It’s the big tomato fight on the 2nd September, but before you get too excited, let’s see what’s happening in the build-up.

Friday 1st September 6pm – Kids water party with frolics and fun from showsibiza.com (they can’t compete in the actual event so here is their own special one) 7pm - Mini disco, games, and family entertainment for the whole family 9pm - inauguration of the fiesta 10pm – ‘Tomate Flower’ it’s a party! with music from the 60’s, 70’s & 80’s with The Selectors DJ’s.

Saturday 2nd September The Grand Battle 6pm – The meeting of the factions – The Cartagineses at the town hall and the Romanos in the Edificio El Ruedo car park.

6.30pm – The exit of the troops to ‘the battlefield’ 7.30pm – The factions take their positions in the forthcoming battle (it will get messy) 8pm – The battle commences – this is the part of throwing tomatoes and having tomatoes thrown at you. Children are not permitted to join in for safety reasons (trust us, it’s safer this way).

9pm – A toast of brotherhood and the unity that binds us 10pm – Live Music with Dr Trapero – enjoy rumba, rock, swing and many more types of fresh and dynamic music open to all the public. Followed by the ‘Concierto de Ressonadors’ who cover many ibicenco tracks, making them their own and playing popular music from Ibiza and Formentera.
