Matutes Calls for 5 Years Prison For Policeman Accused of Stealing 2.7€ Million From Company HQ 1€ Million Of Loot Still Unaccounted For. Matutes Wants Wife of One of The Accused Prosecuted Too. Both the public prosecutor and private prosecutor ask for 5 years for the detained policeman The other policeman and his wife are accused of ‘covering up’ robbery The indictment of the great Grupo Matutes robbery on the 26th October 2013 in which 2,767,000€ was stolen from inside a safe, differs only from that of the Prosecutors office of Ibiza in which the wife of one of the detained national police-

men are accused of assisting. Like the Public Prosecutor's Office, Grupo Matutes is seeking a five-year prison term for former policeman Rafael Rodríguez, expelled from the force for working undercover as a security guard at the holding's headquarters. Both the Office of the Public Prosecutor and the Grupo de Empresas Matutes consider that Rodríguez was the sole perpetrator of the robbery. Agents of the National police responsible for the investigation have recovered 1,772,000€ from the amount stolen, leaving 995,000€ missing. Both private and public prosecutors claim the other National police officer, who was initially arrested for robbery, Jose Joaquin Fernandez, known as JJ, covered up the crime, and

request for him 21 months in prison. Unlike the Prosecutors Office, Grupo Matutes also accuses the partner of JJ, Laura HT, for covering up the robbery, for which a year in prison is requested. Another difference between the two allegations is that while the prosecution does not require JJ and his partner to pay any compensation, the Private Prosecution requests that the two agents and the partner of one of them, compensate Grupo Matutes in solidarity with 995,000€ i.e. the amount remaining to be recovered. Both offices formulate their indictments based on the same facts. That the sole author of the robbery was Rodríguez, that is, no one else participated in the planning or execution of the robbery.
