600,000 Bees Arrive To Repopulate Ibiza  Pitiusan beekeepers are looking to recover the native

bee that was decimated 30 years ago by Varroa Destructor mite.

Enclosed in 30 cases and imported from Mallorca, the bee’s immaculate genetics coincide with that of our islands. The 600,000 purebred bees travelled by boat and were released on a hill of Can Planes which will act as an apiculture farm.

The president of the Pitiusan beekeepers has drawn up a plan which should see the ‘original lineage’ of the native bee return in five years. The project was due to take place last year, but the extreme drought would have endangered the project.

Balearics Charge Highest Tourist Tax in Europe  The European holiday destinations with the highest rates of tourist tax have been revealed in a new survey.  Mallorca, Ibiza, Menorca, Formentera, Barcelona, Rome and Berlin charge the highest.

Holidaymakers staying for a week in a five-star hotel on the Balearic Islands have to pay an additional 28€ for the socalled 'eco-tax'.

In a three-star establishment, it is 14€.

Mallorca, Ibiza, Formentera and Menorca have rates ranging from 4€ pp per night in five-star hotels, 3€ for four, 2€ for two and three stars and 1€ for hostels, pensions, inns or other facilities such as campsites or shelters.

As for rental apartments, the fee is 4€ for houses of four keys superior, 3€ for those of three keys superior and 2€ for those of two and three keys. This fee has a 50% reduction in low season.

Catalonia Catalonia has a different rate from Barcelona and for the rest of the autonomous community.

The study, by Liligo, says Barcelona charges 2.25€ for five-star hotels, 1.10€ for four-star hotels and 2€ for three-star hotels or less. Tourist apartments will pay a single fee of 2.25€ pp per night. The rest of Catalonia does have similar rates - 2.25€ for five-star establishments, 0.90€ for four stars and 0.45 for other tourist facilities.

Outside of Barcelona, the tourist apartments have a rate of just 0.90€ pp per night.

Hamburg has different rates ranging from 0.50€ - 4€ according to the type of accommodation.

Travel search engine liligo.com says many tourists are still taken by surprise when they arrive at hotels and have to pay the extra fee, usually upfront or sometimes at checkout time.

The travel portal says the tourist tax must be paid in person at the accommodation and in cash. In almost all countries it is virtually impossible to pay online with the reservation.

Guillaume Rostrand, chief marketing officer of liligo.com, said: 'The creation of tourist rates is a growing trend that seeks to raise funds to alleviate the negative effects that tourism could have on cities. 'We no longer only see them in Europe but also in the United States, Latin America or Asia.'

Ibiza is 3rd Cheapest in Holiday Spending Survey

In Rome, tourists can pay up to 7€ per night in five-star hotels or 3-5€ in Naples, Venice or Florence. The exception is Milan, which has a rate that fluctuates between 2-5€ but with a 50% reduction in the amount during the summer.

In Germany each state has its own tourist tax, according to Liligo. For example, in Berlin and Cologne tax is charged according to a percentage (5%) of the total hotel bill.

It isn’t really. Of course it isn’t. We are most expensive as always. Holiday portal Spain-Holiday.com have been busy gathering summer holiday spending comparison information around Spain’s most popular resorts.

Ibiza comes out most expensive in many of their results—and way in in front on all those to do with eating drinking and shopping.

There are some positive results however. We were not the most expensive Taxi, they said something or other about being unable to confirm whether or not Ibiza actually had any taxis, and joy of all joys, we have the cheapest water park in Spain. Take that Mallorca!

British Consul to Hold Brexit Advice Session in Ibiza  British Consul Lloyd Milen visits Ibiza to discuss Brexit and how it affects UK citizens in Spain  Monday 25 June at 18.00 at Morna International College, Carretera Sta. Gertrudis, KM 3.5, Santa Gertrudis de Fruitera, 07814, Islas Baleares.

Ibiza will be hosting an event with the British Consul General Lloyd Milen and the British Vice Consul Lucy Gorman, to talk about Brexit and how it affects British citizens living in Spain.

They will be talking to residents at the event about any concerns they have around Brexit and to provide an update on the progress of Brexit negotiations and respond to any questions and concerns they may have.

Ahead of the events, Consul General Lloyd Milen said, “Citizens have always been a priority for the British Government in the negotiations on our departure from the EU, as they have been for Spain, and since the outcome of the referendum we have met groups and individual British citizens from across Spain to listen to their concerns.

“The aim is to give British citizens the opportunity to ask questions and raise any concerns they may have regarding the progress on the negotiations, and Spanish residency questions they may have for Extranjería.

“In Ibiza, we will want to talk about how Brits living in Spain can be best prepared for our departure from the EU. These outreach events allow us to understand the concerns of British citizens better, and to ensure that those concerns are understood in both London and Brussels.”

The event will be held at Morna College on Monday the 25th of June.

Following private sessions in which testimony was presented before the court, Judge Carmen Robles ordered that the three men accused in the case of a serious sexual assault against a 19 year old tourist should be set free—without financial bail, but with strict restrictions.

Two of those charged had their passports taken from them and are under instruction not to leave the island pending trial.

The third man is allowed to return to the UK, but must report to the Spanish Embassy in London twice a week.

As explained by the National Police, on Monday the complainant and her friend met a group of footballers in a San Antonio bar, and both accompanied them to the players’ hotel in Cala de Bou. “Once in the rooms, one of the girls was sexually assaulted by one of the players, while a second grabbed her and a third recorded her with her mobile phone,” the Ibiza Police explained yesterday via a written statement.

The report continues to state that after the events the victim was “visibly affected”, and that her parents with whom she is on holiday immediately suspected something was wrong.

Once their daughter told them what happened, they went to file a complaint at the National Police station.

Court Appearance Apparently, the agents are also investigating an alleged assault between two of the players in the hotel in Cala de Bou. The UFAM investigators took statements from the three suspects yesterday afternoon and they are scheduled to be taken before Judge Carmen Robles in Ibiza Court of Instruction 4 this week.

More detail has emerged regarding the widely reported arrest of Professional footballers in an allegation of sexual assault in Cala de Bou. The preliminary report prepared by the Ibiza Court Institute of Legal Medicine indicates that the signs found on the body of the woman complainant are compatible with those of a sexual assault, as confirmed by sources familiar with the case in the Diario de Ibiza.

In addition, the investigators of the Family and Women Unit of the National Police (UFAM) have stated that they consider the account of the 19 year old woman “coherent and credible”.

Hotel Arrests Following the complaint filed by the young woman and the results of the medical tests, UFAM agents went to the Cala de Bou hotel where the players were staying, and arrested two of the presumed involved, both professional players of Charlton Football Club.

One of the initial two detainees is accused of holding the girl during the assault, and the other of recording the scene with a mobile device.

Yesterday afternoon, following a photographic reconnais-

assault of a 19 year old tourist have appeared in the Ibiza Court.

One player was arrested on the charge of rape, one for filming the assault on his mobile phone, and another for restraining the complainant during the attach.

However in a statement by police today the 14th of June, they have said that the third man has claimed to have intervened to prevent the assault.

His version of events is that he was in an adjacent room with the friend of the complainant, and when he heard loud noises in the room occupied by the complainant and the two other men, he went into the room and told them to stop, in fact his actions leading to a fight between him and one of the other accused.

Really delicious, and absolutely perfect for a hot summer’s day when anything heavier would have you in a hammock for hours of recovery time. That salad truly rocks. Love it.

Carta De Gin I mentioned the Tulp sunset as an obvious reason for a visit at the beginning, didn’t I? Well that just got better too.

Tulp have an extensive Gin menu and though typically a simple Larios and Schweppes man, they won be over with a Hendrick’s on cucumber with an elderflower tonic. So refreshing, I mean cucumber in drinks, where have you been all my life?

Thing is, they are so perfect for the scorching heat that you could easily get through a few. They do go down what you could call the Tulp way …. effortlessly.

We all tend to have particular establishments we frequent for particular needs. A favourite bar to watch football, a Spanish local for café and tostada, perhaps a place that is really good for keeping your kids happy or a good setting for meeting clients.

Tulp Beach Café has been on my certain-situations tick list for a long time, and it fulfils quite a few of them.

Obviously a great choice for sunsets and our default with visiting family and friends. Also a good choice for an hour getting to grips with ‘the morning after’, Something fresh, long and healthy and a quiet corner with the added sea breeze does wonders.

I have developed a taste for their Dutch menu treats and though I am not yet swallowing whole herrings as is the Dutch way, a fancying for a Frikandel or one of the best Nasi Goreng I’ve tasted will have me walking through their doors.

Then there is what I can describe no better than ‘the general atmos’. Tulp has a very special kind of cool that many aspire to but few achieve. It is an effortless kind of laid back beachcomber chic with a touch of freak.

A respite seeking sunbather can snooze in a shady hammock alongside movers and shakers from club-world doing and dealing one cortado at a time. A pristine Patsy Stone will be air kissing darlings when at the same time a dad runs by chasing his errant 2-year-old who is making a break for it through the tangled jungle of chairs and trees, plus the odd elephant or two to make it all the more exciting.

Not many places I know would suit or welcome such a wide variety of people, but Tulp does so—and here’s that word again—effortlessly.

But of course it isn’t effortless. Owners Paul and Diana have spent years refining the art of hospitality to achieve what we see as effortless cool. Creating a venue that attracts the right sort and dissuades the wrong ‘uns is no mean feat.

And that brings me to the last on my list of ticks as to when Tulp becomes my preferred choice. That being when I fancy an hour’s R&R without nutters. Tulp doesn’t have nutters and I love them for it.

Actually, that isn’t the complete list is it. There are the St Barts fireworks, and of course it is a ‘fair’ meeting point half way between bay and town. I’m sure I’ll think of more.

So, my list of reasons to go Dutch is already quite long, but after my visit last week to try some of their new season menu, I now have even more.

Carpaccio Of Rose Veal & Dressed Salad Is everybody familiar with Rose Veal yet? I’m not sure how commonplace it is here. If you don’t know, give it a google.

The flavour of the veal is very subtle, delicate even, and it seems to develop—it was half way through the plate I realised just how much I was enjoying it.

Perhaps that was in part due to how much I was enjoying the salad, I had no doubts on that from the first forkful.

The combination of capers, pine nuts, shaved parmesan and a pesto-mayo dressing sounds like something the MasterChef judges would ridicule as flavour insanity. However, if Tulp’s plate were served to them you would have the rare pleasure of an episode in which they had to admit they had got it wrong.

Somehow the smooth delicate beef seemed to provide the ride for the popping taste sensations provided by the plate’s rowdy

Ibiza to Mykonos Direct Flights  SummerJet: the ‘first ever’ private jet shuttle flights between Ibiza and Mykonos

baffling. Who are we to question the commercial decision to open up a direct Ibiza to Mykonos flight, but it is the language it is presented in, as if the world has been waiting for this gap in world transit to be filled. We’ll leave it to them to explain...

“Encore Jets, a leading full-service private aviation company, announced it is launching SummerJet, a trans-Mediterranean private jet shuttle this summer, offering single-seat private travel between Ibiza and Mykonos from Thursday, July 12th.

For the first time in aviation history, travellers seeking a seamless, luxury, non-stop flight across the Mediterranean between these two summer hotspots now can reserve seats on scheduled flights.

“The news is sure to boost local tourism, as commercial airlines have never offered nonstop flights between Mykonos and Ibiza. The shortest route is currently two legs and just under six hours, with many having to endure ten hours of travel time or more. SummerJet is timed at just under three hours each way, and tickets are priced at €2,150 one-way.

Helicopter transfers to Athens and Santorini from Mykonos will also be available for an additional charge.

“All flights will be on a Mid-Size Citation XLS or a Large Cabin Challenger 604, depending on the calendar date.“

Ca Na Negreta Works Start January The works on the highway will begin in January and the construction company does not expect road closures, but traffic will be reduced to one lane each way. It is part of the 14.5million euro project to extend the section of the Santa Eulalia road. The project will be carried out in phases, in the first, the outer platform will be built (the two lanes to be added on the right-hand side of current road in the direction of Santa Eulalia, and the service roads) and in the second phase, a ‘provisional highway’ will be built to connect the two platforms.

Jesus The Jesus road will have two lanes and two roundabouts, one at the junction of ses Escoles and another at the height of the streets of Tucà and Faisà that will connect with the centre of Jesus. The road will have a 475-metre bike path and pavements in both directions. The speed limit will be 60km, plants and an acoustic screen will also be installed.

Investigation Into Baleària Ferry Crash  Sea captain of Ibiza points to a possible "human failure" as

a reason for the accident The Baleària catamaran ‘Pinar del Río’ was finally removed from the rocks on Saturday 9th almost 24 hours after it became lodged on the sea wall. A dozen divers from the Servi Sub Ibiza and Eivisub went down at dawn on the Saturday morning to repair the small crack in the hull, they also installed two large balloons to increase the ferries buoyancy and the tugboat ‘Claudia’ managed to extract it without any problem.

The catamaran made it’s way into the port and the 64 vehicles on board could be removed.

The shipping company has announced that it will open "an internal investigation to determine the causes of the incident, in order to obtain conclusions that allow it to follow the path of continuous improvement of its services."

On the same day and once the ship had been reviewed, it went on its way to some shipyards in Algeciras "where the material damage that has affected the hull of the ship's port side will be repaired."

Ryanair Denounced The European Parliament has admitted processing the complaint filed by Consumers and Users of the Balearic Islands (Consubal) against Ryanair for assigning separate seats to some families.

Consubal reported the airline last March for “alleged practices contrary to the rights of consumers” after receiving “many” complaints from passengers for assigning separate seats to minors “with the excuse” that they did so randomly.

 This summer, Baleària reinforces its services between Va-

lencia and Ibiza with four daily services The Baleària shipping company has scheduled four daily connections between the Valencian Community and Ibiza this summer, two of which will be high speed.

From the port of Dénia, Baleària offers today two high-speed daily services, linking the peninsula with the greater Pitiusa in just two hours. The fast ferry ‘Cecilia Payne’ operates into the port of Ibiza and, the ‘Pinar del Río’ vessel joins the Dianense capital with Sant Antoni. These routes are added services in the daily ferries from both Dénia and Valencia.

The fast ferry Pinar del Río has scheduled daily departures from Dénia to Sant Antoni, doubling the services on weekends. Ryanair Bans Alcohol On Flights To Ibiza Passengers travelling to Ibiza are again receiving an email this year warning them that any alcohol purchased in duty free will be labelled and put in the hold of the plane. No passenger will be allowed to carry it in the cabin.

The airline has warned passengers that "boarding gates will be closely monitored and customers who show any signs of antisocial behaviour or intend to hide alcohol to get on the plane will be denied travel and will not receive a refund or compensation."

Sant Joan Demands Post Offices Stay Open  The City Council considers that the closure of the two

premises is the "de-structuring" of a basic service The City Council of Sant Joan has agreed to demand that the post offices of sa Cala and Sant Llorenç remain open despite their planned closures. As reported by the Consistory, the decision has been adopted at the local government meeting after the board considers that the closures “will undoubtedly harm the affected users”.

Also, from the Consistory, the closure of these offices will mean a "de-structuring" from the municipal point of view of a "basic" communications service, contrary to what is provided in articles of Law 43/2010, of December 30, of the Rights of Users of the Universal Postal Service and the Postal Market.

With this requirement, they have explained, it is requested that the service be maintained within the municipality for all the neighbours as it has been up to now.

The Protagonists

The first project in this unique space was the memorable exhibition by the artist KAWS. In 2016, La Nave Salinas was transformed into a theatre to show two 3D audiovisual installations of the artist Marco Brambilla. In 2017, Keith Haring was the protagonist of a monumental exhibition that brought together some of his most iconic and representative pieces. In 2018, La Nave Salinas welcomes one of the most prestigious names of video art, Bill Viola. Bill Viola is one of the pioneers of video art and a living legend of contemporary art. Two of the artist's most acclaimed works, Fire Woman and Tristan's Ascension (The Sound of a Mountain Under a Waterfall), can be enjoyed this summer.

Ibiza Gay Pride  Ibiza Town  Claire B This week has seen Ibiza Gay Pride return to the island, with a 4-day programme with activities for all ages, from exhibitions, films, lectures, theatre, parties and of course, the great march for the rights of the LGTBI community on Saturday, June 16.

The motto for this year is ‘for LGTBIQ rights in the world, let’s change the world’, acknowledging that whilst Ibiza is a very tolerant and open-minded place, the experiences for many people around the world are still very different.

The march is still a very important part of Gay Pride around the world, giving visibility on the streets and promoting equality for the LGTBIQ community. It begins at 7pm from the Fishermen’s Guild in the Port of Ibiza, reaching the Avenida de los Andenes, in the Marina. After the march, the manifesto will be read followed by a party with DJs and performers.

Everyone in Ibiza is encouraged to participate in the march, which will be a colourful, loud and fun procession, if other years are to go on.

Fire Woman and Tristan’s Ascension

In collaboration with Bill Viola and the Bill Viola Studio, Fire Woman and Tristan's Ascension will be presented on a 22-foot high screen inside a space completely closed off from the outside and together with a 4.1 sound system, will envelop the viewer in a transformative experience. These installations, on loan courtesy of Bill Viola Studio, were created in 2005 as part of a new production by Peter Sellars of Richard Wagner’s opera Tristan and Isolde. Lio Malca chose these works carefully. He notes: “I have always been a great admirer of Bill Viola’s work. From the first moment I entered La Nave, I have always visualized that one day his work would be projected on a large scale. This year that dream will become a reality; two of the Saturday June 16 most important works by the master Viola will be shown in  7pm Gay Pride March from the Fishermen’s Guild in the Port Ibiza.” of Ibiza to Avenida de los Andenes, in the Marina.

Shebizan  Amanda O’Riordan Who needs to confine shenanigans to a day, when there’s a whole week scribbled in the diary? Yes, it’s time to start my birthday celebrations. This weekend (Friday pm) kicks off with the brilliant Hacienda Classical Concert in the grounds of Kenwood House on Hampstead Heath, conveniently close to home.

Bleary eyed, we’re then flying to Mallorca on Saturday morning for a “proper” Med weekend, before returning to normality on Monday morning.

It’s taken until now to finally learn an important lesson whilst drinking in the sunshine. Namely, consuming plenty of water at the same time. A drill that’s easy to forget - a bottle of water for every bottle of fizz, etc.

It's time to celebrate the LGBTQ Pride month of June with our favourite retro sporty sneaker brand, Converse.

Crayola Unveils Makeup Collection Hands up who remembers trays of broken crayons in infant school?

And how about trying to draw all over your face with crayons?
