Tragedy upon Tragedy This is issue 888 of The Ibizan. In reference to the store the Chinese place in number 888 as a number that denotes treble good fortune, until midweek the planned headline was ‘Lucky, Lucky Lucky’. We had planned a special feature on some of our readers’ accounts on how good fortune had smiled upon them in Ibiza. However to run with that headline this week would be

in the poorest of taste. It has become a week of tragedy upon tragedy. Two young British men aged just 21 and 22 years have lost their lives this week. And while we report on 3 people in serious condition following balcony falls, these cannot compare to the grief of the Irish mother in Mallorca who, having heard her 14 year old son’s calls for

help as he clung to the balcony, could not save him from falling to his death. And as we go to press we are receiving reports of another tourist who has drowned in Ibiza. We feel sure those who submitted their ‘lucky’ stories will agree, this 888 has been anything but. Our thoughts are with all those affected.

No, No, No!

 The regulations keep coming thick and fast! It seems that no sooner have we finished a report on some new restrictive ordinance from one town hall, another announces yet more rules and regulations in what is becoming the summer of no. This week it is Ibiza Town announcing strict new alcohol controls. Full story on page 3.

News Three British Balcony Falls In 2 Weeks

Local newspapers in the U.K. have published tributes from friends of harry Kingsland, left. “I knew Harry while I was out working in Ibiza and honestly he was the nicest lad I’ve ever met. "He was honest, polite and absolutely hilarious. Harry would be the main reason I loved going to work, if I was in a bad mood I knew he’d cheer me up with his jokes. When I heard the news I was absolutely heartbroken that such a young loyal and lovely lad had been taken away from us.” Sash Roughley, Speaking to Birmingham Live

23yr Old, Playa d’en Bossa, 19th July Tolga Aramaz, a Labour party councillor for the London district of Edmonton Green fell from the second floor of apartments on Calle Begònies onto the awning of the restaurant below, La Dolce Vita. Despite landing on the awning, he received multiple injuries and was admitted to the ICU of the Nuestra Señora del Rosario Polyclinic where his condition is critical. The victim was on the balcony with friends, moments before his fall. Police sources believe the fall to be an accident.

42yr Old, San Antonio, 17th July The male British tourist fell from the first floor of a hotel in San Antonio. The night shift receptionist had seen the man arrive with a friend at around 2.30am then heard no noise until the victim fell at around 5.40am. The man was taken to the Nuestra Señora del Rosario Polyclinic with severe polytrauma, where he remains in ICU with acute pain as a result of the polytrauma. The hotel director speculated that drugs/alcohol & balconing was involved however this has not been substantiated.

41yr Old, San Antonio, 11th July Emergency services were notified at 9.55pm that a woman had fallen from the second floor of the apartment block Es Vedra Workers, located in Calle Es Vedra. The female had sustained multiple injuries including a fractured femur and was admitted in a “very serious state” to the Nuestra Señora del Rosario Polyclinic. The cause of her fall is unknown, the Guardia Civil are investigating. On the 2nd July, an English man was seriously injured when he jumped from the second floor of his San Antonio hotel. It has transpired that traffic agents wished to question him over a hit and run accident and he jumped from the building to escape.

Mallorca Mallorca has seen 7 tourist deaths from balcony falls this year alone, the latest a 14yr old Irish boy. His mother heard shouts for help and found the youth hanging from the balcony rails, despite her efforts to save him, he fell and later died as a result of his injuries. Police have suggested he lost his balance in a freak accident while standing on a chair on the balcony.

21 Year Old Briton Dies From Head Injuries After Being Punched When Trying To Break Up A Fight This article was published online on the morning of 18th July. Though his identity was known, we did not publish details as the family had not yet been advised. Local newspapers in the U.K. have now published tributes to the young man, Harry Kingsland. Though not mentioned in the official report issued very soon after the event, it seems clear from overwhelming testimony that Harry was assaulted when he tried to break up a fight in his apartment block. Our thoughts are with Harry’s family and friends.

The young man “suffered a hard punch” from another British man, according to the 061 emergency service, who added that the victim had “severe head and facial trauma” as a result of the assault. The young man went into cardio respiratory arrest and died despite the resuscitation efforts of the paramedics. Police stated that the other man involved had tried to escape by jumping from the second floor of the apartment building where they were staying, but was finally aprehended at the Huevo de Colón roundabout (The Egg) by the Local Police of Sant Antoni. 22 Year Old British Tourist Dies Hours After Arriving in Ibiza  A young British tourist died at 1.30a.m. today, Friday 20th July, at San Antonio medical centre. The individual had only arrived in Ibiza on holiday a matter of hours before. He was taken to the health centre by friends together with volunteers from the San Antonio West End charity, 24/7. In a statement issued by the health service, it says that the individual suffered a heart attack following the ingestion of (unspecified) drugs. All efforts by paramedics to revive the person using CPR proved unsuccessful. A police investigation will be launched as is mandatory in any death which is related to drugs. The emergency service has appointed a psychologist to assist the people connected to the deceased.

Editor’s Note: 24/7 is a Christian charity, comprised of leaders and volunteers, who work in San Antonio’s West End to offer aid to usually young tourists who find themselves victims of excess, or are in any other way in need of a helping hand. They work in often impossibly difficult situations in a totally non-judgemental and non-evangelistic way. In this, another tragic loss of young life, our thoughts are with the family and friends, and also with the volunteers of 24/7 who will also endure the emotional strain of this very sad situation. 24/7 – you do the work of angels and the Ibiza community values you as such.

News Balearics to Ban All-Inclusive Alcohol?  Balearic Government consider a ban on holidays

that offer alcohol as part of an all-inclusive tariff.

In a move that will put the Balearics further out of step with the rest of the Mediterranean holiday market, the regional government are considering a ban on the all-inclusive tariff type that has become popular in recent decades. The initiative is being considered as a method of reducing excessive alcohol consumption, with the open bars felt to be responsible for much of the drunken behaviour of tourists. The idea is that holidays could be offered with all other aspects of all inclusive – so essentially full board, but not the alcohol element. Drinks from the bar would have to be paid separately by the guests according to consumption. No official announcement has yet been made but director general of tourism for the Balearics Antoni Sansó told the Diario de Mallorca, “We don’t intend to prohibit alcohol because you can’t but we can regulate it. Rather than put limits on consumption or time, we propose that alcohol does not come into the equation but it’s not easy. The Government wants to rely on the same formula used for half-board and full-board packages in which they charge for alcohol separately.” Government tourism leaders want hotels to look at offering added value in other ways. No specific ideas have been put forward, but they are talking about ‘environmental tourism’, leading some media speculation that cultural trips and activities are to be promoted. The Government have confirmed they will consult with the individual municipalities. Though the all-inclusive tariff type holiday has seemingly peaked in popularity and fallen away a little in recent years, it still comprises between 15% and 20% of the Balearic tourist market.

Editorial Comment I expect a lot of bar and business owners reading this report will have an initial positive reaction to this news. The allinclusive holidays have been the scourge of the traditional strip businesses for many years. Cala Llonga is a good example, with every hotel in the bay all-inclusive. The local community there have had to work hard to pull people out of the hotel confines, and had good success doing so, but still they get most of their bar business after the midnight curfew in the hotels. But also think of this. A good many people will not start their holiday search as Ibiza, then looking for available tariff types. They will start with all-inclusive, and then look at available locations – of which Ibiza would no longer be on the list. As fundamentally flawed as it is, as often ghastly as it is, the all-inclusive model is popular for a reason. It is popular for families in being able to set a reasonable budget for their holidays. And particularly with families including young children it is popular in allowing a holiday where the parents can actually say ‘yes’ and not ‘no’ all day long. All inclusive surely has its place, and I think that when fully considered people will realise this potential regulation is yet another Balearic Barmy Army move in alienating ourselves from the wider tourist market. We already have the controversial tax, we are heavily regulating entertainment – in some ways to he point of effectively banning it, we are already heavily regulating opening hours and conditions – are we really that much better than everywhere else that we can afford to keep piling on reasons NOT to come? There is also the media aspect. Whatever the rights and wrongs, make no mistake the British media will rip the Balearics to bits for this initiative, even the consideration of the

Ibiza Town Council are the latest municipality to add to the seemingly ever growing number of controls and regulations affecting its residents, tourists and businesses. Though the Town Hall state that the controls are all aimed at the protection of minors in the fight against under age drinking, the effects are bound to be seen also in being another step to curb the party people culture. The new regulations are being passed in a session of Ibiza Town Council today, Thursday 19th of July, however there is as yet no information on whether they will be in force immediately. The regulations, as reported by the Council in a statement, are enacted in the interests of “child protection and prevention from alcohol abuse,” as well as “ensuring minors are not targeted in the advertising of alcoholic beverages, and do not have access to purchase alcoholic beverages.” The Council have stated that their position is one where the rights of the child to protection outweigh the rights of the adult to consume.

Regulations The regulations include:A prohibition on the sale of alcohol from all shops, bodegas, petrol stations etc, from 10 pm to 8 am. A prohibition on the advertising of alcoholic beverages aimed at minors, “which use messages or arguments aimed at this age group and which induce them to drink”. In addition, you cannot use the image or voices of minors or young people in the advertising of alcoholic beverages. A prohibition on the advertising of alcoholic beverages in municipal facilities, sports venues, exhibition halls and educational centres to which minors can access.

ban is being ridiculed already. This Balearic Barmy Army concern is perhaps best highlighted by their comment on adding added ‘environmental value’. Picture the scene. Wifey is at the laptop in January browsing for their annual family holiday, he is watching Match of the Day with a beer in his hand (stereotypical I know, but commonplace none the less). They both work and have 3 school age children. They have been going on allinclusive holidays in the Med for the last 6 years. Editorial Caveat *Can these be true? The official notice from Ibiza Town Hall translates literally as ‘public roads’. If that means public places, I would have been breaking the law when I had a cup of mulled wine on a family trip to the Christmas market. Perhaps I am missing some point of emphasis or colloquial usage? The original text is below – perhaps somebody can tell me it does not mean what we think it means, otherwise this truly is a big leap in Ibiza’s big brother state. “el consumo de bebidas alcohólicas en la vía publica, acompañados de menores, son infracciones graves”

onion and the melon 'eriçó' are the native products that the initiative is set to revive. The Consell de Eivissa, together with the local action group Leader, have presented new labelling for the traditional varieties of vegetables grown in Ibiza’s soils. Their aim is to reintroduce the local, clearly labelled, produce into markets this summer. The programme focusses on the indigenous vegetables that have been formed after centuries of product selection such as the la patata roja (red potato), pebrera blanca (white pepper), tomate de penjar (tomato), meló eriçó (melon) o ceba vermella (red onion). The insular director of Agriculture, Vicent Tur, stressed that the new labelling will serve to differentiate traditional vegetables in points of sale and to emphasise that it is a seasonal, local product, with less ecological footprint. To recover these indigenous varieties, the agricultural experimentation farm of Can Marines has carried out the first phase in creating a seed bank for these varieties, in order to preserve the genetic heritage. After consolidating the seed bank, the Consell now undertakes the campaign of remarketing the vegetables with specific labels, along with other promotional actions.

Smoker’s delight use only natural wood in an offset smoker—Low and Slow is the only way they go

Smoker’s Delight We have been very fortunate in finding some great new food over the last week or two. The first to get our temperature racing is Santa Eulalia’s Smoker’s Delight. The restaurant smokes all their own food on the premises using 100% natural wood pellets in an offset smoker. The method - Low and Slow. The result – just about as succulent and flavoursome beef, turkey and salmon as you will ever taste. Vegans are well cared for including the smoked organic Tofu, the tapas tasters offer a perfect lite bite, and a full night menu that is, well, smoking. Our recommendation has to be the Beef Brisket Merienda. A chunk of smoked beef brisket, horse reddish, pickles, mustard and bread.

around 4 hours—the longest of the century The lunar eclipse that will take place on the 27th July will be the longest in 100 years—and you need no protection to see it. This lunar eclipse is known as the ‘Blood Moon’ or ‘Moon of Fire’ due to the red or reddish brown colour it takes on—this is because some of the sunlight going through Earths atmosphere is bent around the edge of Earth and falls onto the moons surface. The total eclipse will last from around 8.30pm to 10.13pm, although the whole event will last about 4 hours. It can be seen with the naked eye, binoculars or a telescope.

Of course you might expect Ibosim to celebrate the event given they brew a beer by that very name, and to celebrate they are kicking the evening off with a happy two hours from 6pm to 8pm during which time you don’t have to be a werewolf to get a pint for the price of a half, then come the witching hour werewolves get a pint for free. Apparently you only need be dressed as a werewolf, you don’t need any further proof you are one. Trusting souls these brewers obviously— pass me my false gnashers, I’m off down the brewhouse. a good smattering of my favourite spring onions. Best noodles I have ever eaten—period. Fat Billy’s have all sorts of exciting stuff going on too. Beach hamper delivery, some really cool sunbed and parasol combos for rent, and even boat hire. Mind you, all of those things required me to leave the restaurant, and I had absolutely no reason to do so. News Airport Strike Called Off at 11th Hour The indefinite strike of Ibiza airport security staff planned to start Friday 20th July, has been called off following an 11th hour agreement with employers. The strike was announced last Friday 13th when talks with the security staff concession holding company Trablisa broke down. The cancellation of the strike action came with less than a day to go, following an emergency meeting between the staff union and Trablisa. In that meeting Trablisa conceded the employee demands that they would respect the terms and conditions of the previous concession holder. Miguel Pardo, General Secretary of the Federation of Construction and Services Union, CCOO, of the Balearic Islands, said that the agreement is a victory for the workers. Pardo also thanked Isabel Castro, General Director of Labour of the Balearic Government, for their part in reaching the mediated agreement and thus resolving the conflict.

Ronda de Ses Paisses Traffic Change We reported in 878 edition back in April that the ‘semi roundabout’ intersections of the EL-30 by-pass, locally known as the Ronda de Ses Paisses will be developed into full roundabouts with a budget of 700,000€ and the works expected to last 3 months. Whether part of their budget or a temporary measure, the semi roundabouts are no more. Drivers are now able to turn right only, they cannot cross the bypass or turn left. Freshly painted road markings are in place and multiple road signs are being erected to inform drivers of the change. In the time it took to grab a couple of photos, one driver had already cut across the traffic despite the road signs and fresh gleaming white road markings. It’s a welcome change, but will drivers stick to it?

Archaeological Excavation in Can Burgos Sant Josep Town Council are conducting archaeological digs and preparing a museum project for some of the findings made in the Can Burgos area. As reported by the Consistory, the nine cisterns, connected with each other, are still to be dated and were located by chance when municipal workers performed work for the creation of a new public green area. The Mayor, Josep Marí Ribas and the Councillor for Heritage, Francesc Ramon, have visited the excavations, accompanied by the archaeologists in charge, Glenda Graciani and Juanjo Marí Casanovas. During the visit, archaeologists explained

that two hydraulic assemblies have been discovered, one of them of an unusual type, which is pending a date. In addition, it has been ascertained that the deposits served as a temporary hiding place for a soldier during the Civil War, according to the testimonies that the investigators have been able to collect. The City Council has commissioned a museum project, which will allow some of the remains left in view of these lands, where a public park is being created. In addition, there will be a 3D image of the interior, that will be viewable on the Councils website.

Company went on to list those that rely upon tourism, including hoteliers, transporters, traders and farmers. “It is for these people we will work to defend the highest possible quality tourism,” he added. The regional president said he “regretted the passivity” of the Balearic President Armengol and his government in not taking any action or making responses before the recent anti-tourism events in the islands. “We cannot tolerate attacks on tourism, yet some parties in this Government are actively encouraging and promoting these events turismofóbicas”, Company claimed.

Municipal Motions Company announced that the PP would be presenting motions in favour of tourism in all municipalities. Finally, the PP have called upon the National Government delegate to appear before the Balearic Parliament to “give explanations on the measures will it take to prevent acts against tourism”.

 Relish Restaurant & Lounge Bar Just footsteps from the beach of Cala De Bou, the restaurant and bar extends into a large covered terrace, gardens and a private pool for the exclusive use of relish patrons. Plus on Sundays Relish offers a traditional Sunday Roast. Relish pride themselves on a simple philosophy - good food, cooked well, fairly priced. Booking with immediate confirmation is available on the website.

 More Great Food You’ll also find great food in Donnegans Irish Pub, Playa Bella and Kumharas—all of whom are listed in the entertainment section. Also we have to recommend going local during your stay. Nothing beats a long lazy lunch of fresh cooked paella on the beach with a jug or three of sangria to wash it down.

Entertainment

 Ibiza’s spectacular, and largely unspoilt, North Coast

Entertainment  Eden Eden’s no expense spared refit has resulted in a club at the forefront of its peers, but retaining the legendary status as one of Ibiza’s seven-sisters superclubs. That no expense spared also ran to a Void sound system that is not only one of the best in Ibiza, but worldwide. A flagship Void install, in the right hands the music at Eden will make you feel music as you have never felt it before. See our ‘At Night’ and ‘Agenda’ sections for what’s on.

 Plastik Plastik holds top spot as San Antonio’s premier pre-party bar. Putting the VIP experience within reach of non-VIP pockets, it is the perfect place to experience some style for a night out, or as a party starter for later clubbing. Plastik’s masterful resident DJs are joined most nights of the week by headliners from some of Ibiza’s biggest club nights.

 The Watersports Shop Hall with fantastic premium tables and an equally a-list range of Tapas on which to nibble while you play. We don’t want to get sexist about this, but it is the thinking man’s choice while the missus is shopping in Ibiza Town. You’ll be happier, she will be happier, just don’t think too much about your accruing credit card bill while you enjoy a game.

 Freo’s Finest “Snuff, Puff, and Party Stuff”, possibly the best and certainly the most accurately descriptive business strap-line we’ve heard in Ibiza. Poppers, seeds, mushroom kits, and more bongs than the collected works of Cheech and Chong. Plus they offer home/hotel delivery—smoking!

 Royal Plaza The Royal Plaza offer a taste of traditional 4 star quality and service from the days before corporate branding made hotels anonymous. If you are already here you can’t take advantage of the superb accommodation—but remember it for next time. You can however enjoy a meal on their rooftop terrace with unrivalled views over the Dalt Vila. Special, very special.

San Antonio Bay Food & Drink  Little India, Sri Lankan & Indian Restaurant The restaurant that puts the Bom in the Bay, Chef Vipula puts his Sri Lankan heritage into every delicious dal, beautiful biriyani and majestic madras that leaves his kitchen. Unsurprisingly, it can get busy in the summer months, so if planning ahead a booking on their website is a good idea. If exhausted by a hard day on the beach, a take-away service is available to be enjoyed back in the hotel – expect neighbourenvy as those glorious smells waft across the balcony.

 Viva Tennis With 5 top quality courts (2 clay, 3 artificial grass), a bar, pool, sun-terrace and beautiful garden Viva Tennis is the essential destination on Ibiza to play tennis and relax with friends. Whether you are a complete beginner or regular player their team of international coaches can improve anyone’s game.

Vara de Rey 22 dental surgery combines the best technology, equipment and talent bringing you first class dental treatment from specialists you can trust – including emergency appointments. Services also include facial aesthetics, a range of treatments using fillers and botox. For more information see their website http://www.varaderey22.com/

 Ilusions Pool Café Think ‘Cool Hand Luke’. Ilusions is a proper old-school Pool

Dance till dawn? You betcha, and we don’t want any of that ‘I’m too old for all that now’ nonsense either. In Ibiza there is no such thing as too old, and Peppers2 is a fine example of an all night party bar that will see everybody from barely legal to rather regal bopping the night away. See the agenda for special events, but every night you are guaranteed a warm welcome from Chaz and the team. Take a cocktail or two on the terrace, then head inside to show us your moves.

 Donnegans Irish Pub It is hard to know what category to list Donnegans, as they do many things, and do them all very well. Day and night it is a bar with a welcome as warm as the draught Guiness and magners are cold. They show all sports including hurling, and have a great menu of reasonabl;y priced home cooked food from snacks to full meals. But it is perhaps their entertainment that really sets them apart. With a regular line up of live performers with the common denominator of making sure everyone has a great time. Check our agenda and their facebook for events.

 Playa Bella Cabaret Terrace Fancy some good old family cabaret? The Playa Bella apartments kick off with nightly cash Bingo hosted by our own mister thriller from Aston Villa, Chip, and once your eyes are restored to their regular horizontal position, the night continues with a roster of live cabaret featuring everything from tribute acts to comedy to drag and some very talented musical acts. All this takes place on their beachfront terrace which also has a great range of food available day and night. Tough to know whether to list Ibosim brewhouse in ‘food & drink’ or ‘things to do’. As bars are hardly in short supply in Ibiza, and Ibosim offers so much more, we decided on the latter. Ibosim is the first and only beer produced in Ibiza. Visit the brewery and enjoy a worthy range of craft beers on the taproom terrace, or take it a step further and ask about their brewery tours. Ibosim are 50m from Port des Torrent beach.

Guinness on draught—of course, but also Kilkenny Red Ale and Strongbow from the pumps. Plus, and though it might not be a big one for tourists, it certainly is for us residents—proper pies pasties & sausage rolls. With 5 big screen TVs and 4 satellite streams, whatever your sporting preference, if it’s on, they’ve got it.

A most welcome addition to the lower bay road (carrer des calo) in 2017, the watersports shop have a huge range of bookable activities on and under the water, for individuals and groups. Browse their range of jetskis, stand up paddle, seadoos, speedboat trips, and the awesome hoverboard and flyboard sessions, from the comfort of their shop, and then take the activity from any of their four beach concessions—which makes them one of the biggest watersports operators in Ibiza. If not near the shop you can also book online via their website. See ad right for details and location.

Only In Ibiza  Johnny’s Pub, Established 1993 Johnny’s is a Bay institution. Popular with locals and tourists alike, they are open for food to eat in and takeaway from morning through to late—usually very late, and at some point on your holiday, you’ll be glad of that. We locals can’t have their exceptional English breakfast (above) as often as we’d like, but you’re on holiday, so indulge yourself. Just 4,75€ gets you double British sausage and bacon, double egg, tomatoes, mushrooms, beans, fried slice, toast and tea or coffee—plus a portion of jam for reasons we’ve never fully understood.

 Grow Submarine, Head Shop The days of the straw donkey are as dead as a dropped donkey. What Grandma really wants as a gift from your Ibiza adventure is the latest in acrylic bong technology. Don’t know what to get your mates at work—how about some matching grinders? Of course it doesn’t have to be a gift, what better way to fill that last space in the suitcase than with some stock from Grow Submarine’s extensive range of cannabis culture stock? From Rizla’s up, though we warn you that attempting to board a Ryanair flight with a full hydrophonic growing system may incur excess baggage fees.

Shebizan  Amanda O’Riordan Greetings and welcome to another sizzling instalment of Zips It Up, coming to you from poolside in Mallorca. Yes, I am spending my summer on the Love Island itself. In the spirit of things, I’m trying to keep up with this current series, but I’m struggling. It’s not as fun as last year, probably because we had personal connections to a contestant in last season’s villa – Tyla Carr. One year on, and Tyla has just announced that she is expecting her first child with her boyfriend of nine months, Ross. And Tyla Carr has also revealed she was so excited to take the pregnancy test, she did it in a Nando's toilet during a lunch date with her boyfriend, who wishes to remain out of the spotlight. Tyla, who also appeared on First Dates but shot to fame on last year's Love Island - embarked on a turbulent fling with the show’s bad boy Jonny, but is now loved-up with her camera-shy boyfriend. Tyla’s dad Johnny Carr is a very close friend of ours and I know he’ll hate me for this, but Jules and I would like to congratulate Tyla for having the first (ish) Love Island baby and to Johnny for becoming a Grandpa! Onto this week’s fashion round up and we check out the male cleavage, Palazzo pants and the original super model Helena Christensen has launched a beautiful summer shirt collection. Read on and enjoy! X Read Amanda’s fashion blog http://amandazipsitup.com/

Male Cleavage Male cleavage is not for everyone, but that slightly naked, sometimes hairy chest is an acquired taste and it’s back. The proof was on the streets of Men’s Fashion Week in Paris a few weeks ago. There, bare-chested swagger came in all shapes and sizes, clad in colourful can’t-miss-it printed shirts. Plus a splash of accessorising over a hairless chest with handfuls of silver “man jewellery”. The trend has been spotted on other menswear catwalks this season, too. Dior Homme showed men in blazers with nothing underneath. Also, I found pictures of one model striding down the runway in a completely unbuttoned floral blouse, whilst another model showed off his tattooed torso in a novelty Hawaiian-print shirt. Sure, this kind of ‘peacocking’ is all part of the fun in men’s fashion. But is it something that guys in the real world can pull off too? Is it a touch sleazy and a tad too “Peter Stringfellow” (god rest his soul)? Especially on a bloke with a super hairy chest. Like it or not, “manscaping” is now a fashion term and the Male Cleavage is definitely a thing in 2018. Whichever side of the chest hair debate you fall on, the key to getting it right often depends on the style and silhouette of shirt. Harry Styles has got it spot-on with this “Mick Jagger-in-the’70s” look. But if you’re a working professional, those around you probably don’t want to see your belly button. And when wearing those bright, printed button-up shirts, be sure to lose those under Tshirts, or “sweat buffers” as they are sometimes called. Just undo a couple of the top buttons for a breather. Aside from that, with a nod to a less-is-more mentality, styleconscious guys have every reason to bare their chests this summer.

Pallazo Pants Just about wherever you are in Europe right now, it’s hot. So no complaints, unless of course you’re stuck on the Central Line doing a sweltering hot commute. In these conditions, being able to wear something smart, cool and comfortable (and that works with sandals), is what we’re after. Let me introduce you to the palazzo pant. Or the Wide Leg Trouser. Wide legged and breezy, these are the perfect summer solution for days when you’re not ‘prepped’ (i.e. as tanned or as hair free as you’d like to be). Whilst trousers might not sound like the obvious summer style solution, the palazzo pant is “wide leg”, therefore

Helena Christensen She's one of the world's most famous supermodels and Helena Christensen has proven that she's still got what it takes to turn heads at 47 years old. Helena showcases her ‘still perfect’ body in a fabulous new shoot at a Mexican resort to debut her latest clothing range. Trying her hand at fashion design, the model has created a capsule collection of 'boyfriend' shirts, all modelled by Helena herself in the ad campaign. Created in partnership with Helena's design partner Camilla Staerk, the shirts are intended as the perfect cover-up for

allowing lots of cooling air flow. Meghan Markle wore a pair to Wimbledon last week, and Victoria Beckham is also a fan. I’m sceptical about the shape though. Unless you have snake hips, they may look rather wrong, so always buy one size up, so they sit nicely on the hip. Here’s where to find a pair on the high street and it’s the summer sales, so the ideal time to buy.

beachside glamour. The Danish model poses in her custom designs, relaxing in hammocks against the glamorous backdrop of the resort. Despite Mexico being the location for the shoot, Helena said that the inspiration for her blouses came from elsewhere too. 'The Caribbean is one of my favourite parts of the world, and my inspiration for this collection comes from the life and vibrancy that the destination is known for.' The shirts will be available in three floral prints – the Dhalia flower from Mexico, the Rosa de Bayahibe of the Dominican Republic and Jamaica's national flower, the Tree of Life. Holidays are about relaxation, but why not relax in style? Designed for easy transition from the beach to the bar, I think they're chic in any environment.

Community Weather Saturday 21 20th July—26th July 2018 ARIES – Ace of Wands Be on the lookout for new business opportunities. A project or idea could get off the ground this week; just make sure you know what your goals are. Social events bring you into contact with those who further your interests; therefore, it would be wise to get out and about. This is a new era for you so remain optimistic. TAURUS – Three of Swords If you’re pushed to the limit by someone’s unreasonable behaviour, be careful not to turn a skirmish into a war. The old saying goes two’s company, but three’s a crowd so be aware of who’s coming between you and someone or something important. Don’t let past incidents cloud your thinking; you’ll need a sharp mind sharp to deal with tricky situations. GEMINI – The World The world is literally at your feet as this card indicates ambition coupled with success; you’re firing on all cylinders. You’ve worked hard and gone through the ‘apprenticeship’ stage and you’re coming into your own. Plans are coming together rather nicely. Thoughts regarding long distance travel need to be explored further as it could be the trip of a lifetime. CANCER – Knight of Wands Take opportunities to travel; especially for career or to broaden your education. The people you meet and what you will learn could end up having a big impact on your future. Creative Cancerians do especially well this week as others are more than willing to back your bright ideas. New business opportunities will also flourish and colleagues have your back. LEO – Transformation The past is done so don’t look back as the only way to go is forward; you feel relaxed about the changes going on around you and are able to release old fears. You now realise that the only person that stands in your way is you and that you need a fresh approach and a new perspective in life. VIRGO – The Hierophant If you’ve experienced a few setbacks with any important goals recently, don't give up on them yet. The tide turns in your favour and you receive some unexpected help. Let go of the past and look inward for inspiration; let your intuition guide you. You can be a powerful teacher or mentor at this time, others appreciate your wisdom. LIBRA – Nine of Pentacles At last a welcome improvement to your finances this week, just be sensible and don't fritter money away needlessly save for a rainy day. Remember though, money's round to go around, so help someone who really needs it. If you're hoping to finalise a financial agreement, good news comes sooner than you think, and you get what you want. SCORPIO – King of Cups Kind, generous, wise people help you to get the most out of this week. You're bowled over by those who have no agenda but to make your life considerably easier. A big event could happen and you're closer to fulfilling a dream; all heartwarming stuff! Cancer, Scorpio or Pisces men are your best friends or lovers, so seek them out. SAGITTARIUS – Nine of Cups This is one of the three wish cards in the TAROT deck and is your lucky talisman this week. Be sure you know what you desire to happen and be conscious of your actions. Worries are fading and new, exciting opportunities start to materialise. You are in the flow of prosperity, so remain positive about personal and financial goals. CAPRICORN – The Hermit This is the ninth card of the TAROT and therefore signifies completion of a cycle. The figure stands on top of a mountain; he’s alone but not lonely, shining his light so others can see the way. It’s your week to be a shining example to others; to be a peacemaker not an agitator; a healer of hearts no less! AQUARIUS – Princess of Swords You may be challenged to stand up for your principles and to deal with those who question your motives. At times you may feel that you're lying on a bed of nails, as others around you can be so prickly! If the understanding approach isn’t working, then it’s time to stand your ground and put certain people in their place. PISCES – Four of Pentacles Relax and count your blessings; you feel more secure and peaceful with life generally. Be happy with what you've achieved and content with what you have. Money invested in building/property shows a healthy return for the investment, so don't shy away if such an opportunity presents itself. Your best times will be at home spent quietly, or with loved ones.

The Bible) Abraham obeys the voice! This leads to an epic journey to the land of the Canaanites, now Israel. Hearing the voice often involves a letting go and making a journey – literal or metaphorical. For Abraham it is letting go of country, family, and home. But what an amazing journey Abraham has as he gets to know the “person” behind the voice. The Hebrew, translated in the quotation above as “Go out”, is pronounced Lekh-Lekha. The first word Lekh is from the verb “to go” or “to walk”. The second word Lekha is difficult to pin down. Jonathan Sacks (the previous chief rabbi of England), a Hebrew scholar, says that

father’s name was Terah and that Abraham had two brothers Nahor and Haran. Abraham’s father, together with his family, including Abraham, are refugees. They leave their native home in Ur, then in the kingdom of the Sumerians, now southern Iraq near Basra. They take the great trade route that follows the river Euphrates River north to Haran then in the kingdom of the Hurrians and now in Northern Syria near Aleppo. It is then and there that Abraham hears the voice: “Now the Lord said to Abram: ‘Go out from your country, from your family and from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you.’” (Genesis 12:1,

Rev. Dr Peter Pimentel Abraham is the father of three world religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. We first hear of Abraham from the Book of Genesis. Genesis is a literary masterpiece from the ancient Near East. Abraham hears the mysterious voice of God. This voice comes as a bolt out of the blue. Abraham is not a Jew or a Christian or a Muslim. When Abraham hears the mysterious voice, there is as yet no Judaism, no Christianity and no Islam. The Chronological Study Bible dates Abraham to between 2000 and 1900 years before the birth of Christianity! 4000 years ago! We know nothing about Abraham, before he hears the voice, other than his

Lekha can mean either: for yourself, to yourself, by yourself, or with yourself. So, the two words together mean: “Go for yourself” or “Go to yourself” or “Go by yourself” or “Go with yourself”. When we obey the voice of God the journey will be something that is good “for yourself”. Paradoxically it will also be a journey that is true “to yourself”. The journey will be something that you must do “by yourself” even if you have others that are making the journey with you! They too will need to make the journey by themselves. Also “with yourself”!

24-7 Charity—‘Vomit Van’ Appeal 24-7 has recently launched a funding appeal to raise money for a new ‘Vomit Van’ (how they fondly refer to their main means of transport). Team member Jud Sweeney has provided details of their work in San Antonio and any donations however small, will help to support the fantastic work that they do on the island. Over to Jud Sweeney for more information...

 Jud Sweeney 24-7 Ibiza is a Christian organisation that has been operating in San Antonio for more than 15 years. The volunteers aim to meet the emotional, spiritual and physical needs of holidaymakers and seasonal workers during the summer months.

24-7 Daytime During the day time we have a centre in Calle de General Prim which is open weekdays from 16:00- 20:00 (19:00 on Fridays) where workers can come and use the WIFI, play table tennis or Playstation, grab a free tea or coffee and have a chat. We can help connect people with the British Consulate, offer prison visits and assist people in specific areas of need. We also have a short Sunday evening service from 19:00- 19:30. During the night times, we can be found on the streets of San Antonio offering support to those who’ve found themselves in vulnerable positions. Sometimes holidays don’t go according
