Just Say N2O San Antonio go Legal on Laughing Gas. New Municipal Regulations will mean a Fine of up to 1,500€ for Using Nitrous Oxide in a Public Place.

San Antonio is set to outlaw the use of laughing gas in public places. The government team will make a modification of the municipality’s ‘Ordinance of Coexistence’ in this month’s full council session to the

effect of prohibiting the consumption of nitrous oxide, better known as 'laughing gas' in public places. Under current regulations local police can only act against those people who are caught selling laughing gas. Until now consumers could not be punished as the 'laughing gas’ is not treated as an illegal substance or classified as a narcotic.

News establishments in the Balearics, though the current voluntary register means that figure could be substantially more. In their end of year Holiday Habits report, the Association of British Travel Agents, ABTA, put the all-inclusive market at 17%, which is corroborated by the Balearic Tourism estimate of 15-20%. The key issue here is that the all-inclusive client starts with that criteria. In my opinion there will be very few tourists intending to book all-inclusive, who would start with Ibiza and then on discovery no such thing as all-inclusive exists, would shrug and look at bed and breakfast options. The all-inclusive tourist wants it for a reason. They want the fixed budget, most typically because they are a family group. If these changes are passed, the all-inclusive traveller will never even see Ibiza, or Mallorca or Menorca, as options in their search. Ibiza will be effectively wiped off the map for that 17% of tourists. Another fact I discovered in the ABTA report is that the fastest growing sector of tourism is for music events. Music centred holidays have risen from effectively nothing to 9% in just a few years. We do not seem to be wanting any of that tourism business either, so that is a total of 26% of tourism the Balearic Government says we can do without. If you are a believer in negative press the new regulations are already taking their toll in in the UK press, who are billing it in the context of the Balearics doing yet more to squeeze the fun out of a holiday.

The Bonkers Balearics Once passed, these regulations would leave us with:-

grounds will have to be served by a waiter.

When we first reported on the idea of banning all inclusive holidays earlier this year it seemed one of the more fanciful ideas coming out of Palma. However according to reports in the Diario de Mallorca this week – notably picked up by the majority of the UK press – the regional Government are just about set to proceed with their strict controls on the all-inclusive sector. In true-to-form fashion, even such draconian action cannot be undertaken in anything of a straightforward manner. The Mallorcan daily suggests a raft of regulations so bewildering and confusing that it will be a contender for the number 1 spot in the Balearic Bonkers charts.

No Free Booze

All hotels wishing to offer this new type of alcohol-free allinclusive tariff, or to put it a way many tourists will see it, NOT an all-inclusive tariff, must register with the government. Currently there is voluntary registration in force. They will then only receive their licence if they can prove that they can serve 70% of their clients simultaneously when the hotel is full. This is introduced in a move to ‘improve customer service and reduce queues’. So try to figure that one out. The plan is to ban what the customer wants, but then put in place a system that means the customer does not have to queue as long for the thing they want, but are no longer allowed to have, so wouldn’t be in the queue anyway. Mind boggling. But then as no hotel could fulfill the 70% simultaneous service standard at their capacity occupancy, it is academic anyway. The tourist only has to be told that were the hotel able to fulfill those impossible requirements, they would not have to queue as long for the thing they want, but are no longer allowed to have. You can see the glowing Tripadvisor reviews rushing in.

The prime objective in the regulations is to restrict open access to alcohol in all inclusive hotels. The Government feel that the free bars, always an integral part of the all inclusive package, result in anti social behaviour. In that they may have a point, though they will be the first region of Spain, or anywhere worldwide, that is either so confident in the strength of their tourism market, or so determined in their moral responsibility, that they will impose that view on their visitors. the Seaview’s swim up sunset rooms – not every all-inclusive is about have many plastic cups of beer you can drink in a day. There will be some, particularly among small business owners, who will be glad to see the back of the all-inclusives that have kept people in the hotels and out of the bars and cafes. But let us be clear in terms of assessing the Government position – there is not one mention of a desire to support local businesses. Any benefit they derive will be coincidental, and in so far as the governments intentions are concerned, inconsequential.

Final Stages The controversial proposals are in the final stages of drafting and, if implemented, will mean a tough new stance on all aspects of all-inclusive hotels, including a halt to free and unlimited alcohol in the bars.

The Diario De Mallorca Summarises The Regulations As:  Any guest wanting a drink anywhere in the hotel or

may be included in the tariff.

entertainment (live music, decibel levels etc) in the Mediterranean  Among the greatest level of restrictions on opening hours (Ibiza town retail ban, west end early closing etc) in the Mediterranean  The only region in the world (perhaps with some religious exceptions) that does not permit the all-inclusive tourism model  Among the highest accommodation costs in the Mediterranean  The highest subsistence costs in the Mediterranean, (food, drink, clubs etc)  A high level of street crime showing no indication of resolution  And to seal the deal we are one of the few regions in the Mediterranean that then tax you on arrival for the privilege of staying here. All the price premiums plus all the restrictions. No, no, no, no, no – the Ibiza tourism model reminds me of the welcome Sex Pistols front man John Lydon talks of from 1970s London landlords, who would routinely hang a sign in their window saying – “No Blacks, No Irish, No Dogs”.

 All drinks served outside of the dining room at any time of

day or night must be paid for by the guest at the time they are served.  There will be no free access to beers or alcoholic drinks in fridges. However, many hotels may not be able to offer even this vastly reduced service due to new rules on registration.

Ibiza Seeks Exemption

Bewildering

Vicent Torres, Ibiza’s director of Tourism, said yesterday that this regulation is out of place in Ibiza because on this island the all-inclusive is a minority, is focused on family tourism and does not generate any problem: "Your application would greatly harm the family tourism of Ibiza,"he said when addressing the Regional Government in Mallorca.

Environmental Add-On There are also plans to ban single-use plastic plates, cutlery and cups. Though this will be broadly welcomed, some will see it as a cheap addition of some environmental purpose to a plan that is in no way driven by environmental concerns.

Hoteliers Threaten Action  Update, 23rd August

Mallorca Problem Torres went on to outline why Ibiza should be considered differently. "It is a problem that affects Mallorca much more than Ibiza", Torres said, "There is no such debate here, so we do not agree with these changes on our Island. The Consell will request an exception for Ibiza if this regulation comes into force". He believes that it would be legally feasible because "it would not be the first case in which exceptions were made for specific islands, it has already happened in urban issues, for example".

Nuts The island director of Tourism made these statements after hearing the harsh criticisms made yesterday by the hotel Federation pitiusa against "the claim to prohibit the inclusion of alcohol in the all-inclusive mode", something that hoteliers describe as "a new round of regulatory nuts that reduces competitiveness". The new president of hoteliers, Ana Gordillo, said that " 'allinclusive' in Ibiza is more associated in to family tourism. That is something good. Some of the Hotels offering allinclusive are far from town and it is good that there is that offer of all-inclusive. The hoteliers have threatened legal action for compensation in loss of income, should the measures be forced upon them.

News Nitrous Oxide, known as Laughing Gas, is dispensed in balloons and inhaled by the user. It has become big business in recent years with illegal street sellers offering 2 balloons for 5€ in several public areas of San Antonio, much to the indignation of the local community. Up until relatively recently laughing gas balloons were sold in many bars and clubs as a legitimate business enterprise. (Continued from page 1)

The proposal to the council plenary will make an addition to article 42, of the Ordinance of measures to promote and guarantee Coexistence a new regulation that prohibits "selling, promoting, advertising or facilitating access to nitrous oxide in public spaces, as well as the consumption of this substance or any other equivalent that, despite not being classified as a drug, may have harmful effects on the people who consume it.” In all cases, and in accordance with existing municipal regulations, the sale of this gas is prohibited. Failure to comply with these prohibitions will be considered an administrative infraction, not a criminal act.

Fines Taking or facilitating laughing gas in public will be considered a serious infraction. Fines will range from 750€ to 1,500€ Where a person is found to be selling or facilitating to a minor under 18 years of age the matter will be classified as very serios. Fines will range from 1,500€ to 3,000€

Crowdfunding Raises 48,000€ To Send Jack Home We reported in last weeks newspaper of the 22yr old Brit Jack Holland, who fell from the first-floor balcony of Ibiza Rocks, San Antonio hotel, the day after arriving, seriously injuring himself. The fall caused a serious head injury and polytrauma, he underwent brain surgery and has been taken out of his induced come. He is said to be “conscious and coherent” and remains in the Nuestra Señora del Rosario Polyclinic. His girlfriend, Charlie Arbourne started a Just Giving crowdfunding campaign just four days ago to raise money to get a specialised air ambulance to take Jack back to the UK to continue his long road to recovery, and in those four days, people have kindly donated over 48,000€, double what is needed to cover the cost of the air ambulance.

 And that is what 18 million euros worth of cocaine looks like, or by our count around 55 million.

300kg of Cocaine Worth 18€ Million Seized off Ibiza The Customs Surveillance Service (SVA) of the Tax Agency has intercepted 300 kilos of cocaine on a boat between Mallorca and Ibiza. The agents acted in the early hours of Sunday when the motorboat that was transporting the drug was about fifteen miles west of Ibiza. Five crew members were arrested , four of them Dutch one German. The detainees together with the boat and the drugs have been placed at the disposal of the Instruction Court No. 8 of the Palma de Mallorca, which will direct proceedings. Action is also being taken in the Netherlands, where it is expected that the rest of the organization will be arrested. This operation is one of the biggest seizures of cocaine ever made in the Balearic Islands. The value of the cocaine is said to exceed 18,000,000€* on the black market, and the boat is valued at a further 1,500,000€

thrown overboard by a regular cargo ship. This modus operandi is known as ‘drop-off’, which consists of the use of regular line vessels (container ships ) for the transport of the narcotic substance to Europe, mainly cocaine. In the vicinity of the coast it is thrown into the sea by the members of the crew and collected by boats of smaller size, who then transfer the drugs to shore.

We asked a friend, and they highlighted that 300kg equals 300,000g, or in cocaine terms minimally 350,000g which at 50€ a gram is 17,500,000€ – if it were sold pure. But by the time it hit the streets that 300kg will have minimally trebled in weight, so a more realistic street value as people would understand it, of around 55,000,000€. At least, so our friend tells us.

Operation ‘Haircut’ The operation, called ‘Haircut’, began as a result of routine maritime intelligence work developed by Customs Surveillance officers, when in 2016 a vessel was detected in Palma de Mallorca linked to a criminal organization dedicated to the importation of narcotics into Europe. From the outset the investigation was developed jointly with the Dutch Police and European collaboration. The operation came to its conclusion on Sunday when it was detected that the vessel had departed from the port of Palma de Mallorca. Unbeknown to the ship’s crew, it was being constantly monitored with cutting edge aeronautical surveillance systems of the Customs department. This resulted in the observance that the yacht, the HCHX flying under a Gibraltar flag, had picked up some packages in the sea, that only moments before had been

Once there was evidence of the collection of narcotics, the corresponding authorization was requested from the ship’s flag country, which turned out to be from the United Kingdom with registration in Gibraltar; This procedure was carried out through the Intelligence Centre Against Terrorism and Organized Crime. With the authorization of the State of the flag and the corresponding boarding order issued by the Court of Instruction No. 8 of the Palma de Mallorca, a provision of the patrol boat “Paiño” of Customs Surveillance proceeded to board the vessel HCH-X, finding in its interior five waterproofed bales tied together with ropes that hid approximately 150 kilograms of high purity cocaine.

Second Find Immediately the five crew members were arrested, as well as the intervention of the ship and the merchandise for its subsequent transfer to the port of Palma de Mallorca. The boat was searched in the presence of the Judicial Authority leading to the discovery of a further 150 kilograms of cocaine in a double bottom on the floor of the captain’s cabin.

Balearic Property “B

alearic and mainland estate agency group Porta Mondial have published a comprehensive report of the Balearic second/holiday home property market. Porta Mondial commissioned Professor Marco Wölfle of the Centre for Real Estate Studies (CRES) to undertake the report. We will not bore you with the pages of data qualification, but we gave it good consideration and it seems a thorough and well evidenced survey of the market. The results are based on 600 properties in Ibiza, 6,000 in Mallorca and 2,100 in Menorca. Formentera was not included. Though the report is aimed specifically at holiday/second homes, most of the information and findings are relevant for all types/ motivation of property purchase.

Property Sales The property market in the Balearic Islands has almost completely recovered. Figures from property transactions have been rising steadily since 2013 and are now at about 80%

of the level seen in the boom years 2006 and 2007, before the Spanish property crisis of 2009 in the aftermath of the global financial crisis.  Since 2013, the number of transactions in the Balearic Islands has more than doubled.

 On Mallorca and Menor-

ca, sales have increased by 127%, while sales in Ibiza have doubled.  The long-term trend suggests a very stable situation: more than 70% of all properties sold in the Balearics are on Mallorca. The remaining 30% are split between its two neighbouring islands.

Holiday & 2nd Home Market

Menorca has four times as many holiday homes in the simple and medium-priced categories as Ibiza.

"There is something suitable for everyone." This could be the motto of the Balearic Islands. Ibiza, for example, offers a rich selection of luxury properties and high-end holiday homes.

Mallorca offers a thoroughly usable infrastructure. The largest of the Balearics usually has connections to all major destinations on the European mainland several times a day and has long had the most sales of the three Islands. Holidaymakers who are focused on the summer months and are perhaps looking for a little more peace and quiet will find the right offering on Menorca. When one takes the size of Menorca into consideration, it has the largest inventory, the most sales, and the most holiday properties on offer. It also

offers good deals on more modest, starter properties.

Distribution & Location There are regional variations in the market on the three islands. At some 3,600 km2, Mallorca is also significantly larger than Menorca (695 km²) and Ibiza (570 km²). While Menorca has only about 136 inhabitants per square kilometre, its two neighbours are almost twice as densely populated at about 240 inhabitants/ m² each. As a result, the property inventory differs

among the three islands. For this study, Ibiza was divided into 5 regions, Mallorca into 9, and Menorca into 4. On Ibiza, Eularia, Sant Josep, and Eivissa each account for just under onethird of the properties on offer, where Sant Joan or Sant Antoni each only have about 5% of the island's total offerings. The significantly larger Mallorca was divided into 9 regions for this study. In the first quarter of 2018, around 30% of all holiday properties on Mallorca were offered in the southwest region. This trend has remained stable over time,

Can I Buy? For many people the question is not whether they want to buy, but whether they can. Bank mortgages in Spain do not resemble their UK counterparts—and nor do the costs involved in property purchase— Spain’s are much higher. We asked Bettina Lorenz of Balearic Mortgage Services for the key numbers— how much can you borrow, and how much are the costs. Here is what Bettina told us. “The Spanish banks are much more willing to lend now than they were during and immediately after the mortgage crisis. The Spanish mortgage market is actually very competitive., however the banks are still cautious about the non-resident clients they will lend to. “Generally speaking, the client needs to have a deposit amount of minimum 30-40% of the purchase price of the Ibiza property for sale. “Plus they will need additional funds to cover the taxes and expenses involved in the purchase – I usually advise to calculate between 12-14% to cover these expenses.“ Useful information. So in practical terms, if looking to buy a 500,000€ property, you will need around 175,000€ for the deposit and a further 65,000€ for fees—a total of 240,000€ to have the bank sit up and take notice. with about one-third of the properties on offer each year being found there. One-fifth of the holiday properties on offer have traditionally been located in Palma City and its surroundings. The remaining 50% are distributed almost evenly among the six other

regions, with shares ranging from 12% in central Mallorca and more than 10% in the north to 7% in the north-east. The lowest supply is found in the north-west and south-east regions with just 6% each. It is remarkable that the south-east,

The report is based on properties from agents including Savills Ibiza, who offer this 10 bedroom and 7 bathroom villa, comprising a main house, a separate apartment and 2 annex suites, though its sumptuous North African inspired gardens and terracing may be its immediate draw for most. Total 548m2, priced at €3,950,000. which is one of the larger regions in terms of area, has the lowest amount of property available and only half of that on offer in the similarly-sized central region. The south-west, on the other hand, which is half the size, has five times as much property on offer. The transaction figures in the south-east are also low, indicating a stable, yet small market. On Menorca, every tenth property is offered in the tiny northern region, while the south has the strongest market with 35% of all holiday properties on offer. Mahon and Ciutadella, meanwhile, had onequarter each of the island's property offerings.

has the highest density, followed by Mallorca at 46%. At just under 19%, Menorca has significantly fewer upscale and luxurious properties in all its regions. Despite being almost the same size as Menorca, Ibiza has more than three times as many holiday homes in the €3–5 million price range and six times as many in the €5– 10 range.

Ibiza: Ibiza is clearly characterised by upscale and luxurious properties. At least 10% of each region's offerings are in the luxury class. The market in Sant Joan is particularly exclusive; one in three properties there are in the luxury segment. The great majority of the other properties on offer are upscale.

The market for simple properties on Ibiza is negligible and, in Eivissa, there are barely any simple or medium-priced properties on offer at all. If one is set on buying in Ibiza and would still like to start in the medium price segment, we recommend looking at Santa Eularia, Sant Josep, or Sant Antoni, where such properties make up between 20% and

25% of those on offer. In Sant Joan and Eivissa, on the other hand, only one in ten holiday homes fall into this category.

Mallorca: Luxurious and wellequipped holiday homes make up 60% to 70% of the properties on offer in the two Palma regions and the south-west. In the area immediately surrounding Palma and in the southwest, one in five properties is in the luxury segment, a share twice as high as on the island as a whole. 30% of the holiday homes on Mallorca are in mediumpriced segment. At 35%, an above-average number of medium-priced properties are located in the north and south regions. The central region is just behind with 33% of properties in this segment. This stands in contrast to the two Palma regions, where just over 20% of the offerings are mediumpriced. This applies almost equally to the number of simple properties on offer. Slightly more one of every ten holiday homes in these regions is of the simple category. Nevertheless, there are many inexpensive, simple properties to be had in the centre of the island. In 2018, every other property on offer in that region fell in this category. The southern region, with 42% of its properties classified as simple, also offers opportunities for entry-level buyers.

Menorca: Relatively few luxury properties on offer, with no more than 5% of the listings in any region. As a result, the rare luxury property that does come up for sale on Menorca is comparatively expensive at €10,000 or more per square meter. The island is perhaps best suited for entry-level buyers seeking holiday homes or for those who would rather holiday in the summer months. If you are in the market for a luxury or upscale home and have decided on Menorca, you should schedule some time

to hunt for available properties and actively approach local experts. After all, only one in ten properties on offer on Menorca falls into these two higherpriced market segments.

2018 Prices in the Balearics There are clear differences among the three islands, not only in terms of fittings, but also home prices. Depending on the fittings and location, average prices can range from €2,200 to over €8,300 per square metre. The largest range in prices can be seen in Mallorca, while Ibiza's market is characterised with a high number of luxury properties and Menorca's by more medium-priced and simple properties. As a rule of thumb, a higher price on Menorca is roughly an entry-level price on Ibiza.

Ibiza Island average: €7,138 per square metre Lowest and highest average regional prices: €4,973 and €8,322 The island even has properties priced at more than €10,000 per square metre, especially in the exclusive Eivissa region. Average prices at €6,800 and €6,300 in Sant Josep and Santa Eularia respectively are closer to prices in Munich. If one considers the spreads in each region, great differences become apparent on Ibiza. In Sant Antoni, prices are closer to the average (± €1,600). In Sant Josep and Eivissa, the price structure is significantly different (± over €3,200).

Mallorca Island average: €5,031 per square metre Lowest and highest average regional prices: €3,337 and €6,332 The south-west, Palma city, and the area immediately surrounding Palma have higher-priced properties. In addition to an average price of €3,610, the gener-

ally less expensive south also offers very good opportunities for starter holiday homes. There are properties here priced around €2,500. Similar entry-level prices can also be found in the centre of the island and in the north.

Menorca Island average: €2,912 per square metre Lowest and highest average regional prices: €2,547 and €3,176 Menorca is a good entrylevel island, especially for those who do not want extensive tourism-

orientated infrastructure, but instead simply want to enjoy the summer months. Menorca has the most uniform price structure of the three islands. The gap between top- and entrylevel priced properties on Menorca is the closest of the three. This is especially true in the north. More upscale properties can be found here at comparatively lower prices here.

Entry-Level & Premium  Bargains

(the lowest priced 5% of the market) top out at €350,000 on Ibiza,  €300,000 on Mallorca, and €103,000 on Menorca.  The top end of the market (highest priced 5%) starts at €6,250,000 on Ibiza,  €5,950,000 on Mallorca, and €1,960,000 on Menorca.  The average property on Ibiza is three times more expensive than on Menorca.  Land is becoming scarce, especially for expensive properties on Ibiza. The largest properties on

Menorca are more than double the size of those on Ibiza. This effect is particularly noticeable with luxury properties.

Front Line Premium In holiday destinations, even a special pool will not replace a sea view. Together, the Balearic Islands have more than 1,100 km of coastline. As the smallest island, Ibiza only has 210 km of shoreline, making a sea view there more expensive and scarcer than on Mallorca, which has 550 km of beaches, more than half of the islands' total. A good quarter of the three islands' available coastline is on Menorca. In general, even near the beach, a special sea view in rare locations and near local highlights can mean price premiums of between 20% and 90%.

Ibiza Top premium in Sant Josep: +67% for first sea line Island average for first sea line: +33% Premium for a pool: +12% on average Premium for a high-end pool: +24%

Mallorca Top premium in the northwest: +145% for first sea line Island average for first sea line: +94% Premium for a pool: +20% on average Premium for a high-end pool: +44%

Menorca Top premium in Mahon: +81% for first sea line Island average for first sea line: +46% Premium for a pool: +3% on average Premium for a high-end pool: +23%

Conclusion Holiday homes in the Balearic Islands remain in demand. There is a wide selection that appeals to different buyer groups. The widest range of properties on offer can be found on Mallorca, which is particularly attractive due to its year-round accessibility and existing infrastructure. But the somewhat quieter Menorca is also attractive with low entry-level prices. Pure luxury and upscale holiday properties can especially be found on Ibiza.

Tourist Guide Santa Eulalia Food & Drink  Los Otros, Vegan & Veg Restaurant, Santa Eulaia There can be little doubting the vegan credentials of Los Otros, as not only do they offer a fine range of Italian food, the owner is an authoritative author of vegan cookbooks too. The setting is magical. Just meters from the water on the marina front of Santa Eulalia, your visit will have the reassuringly relaxing soundtrack of the clinking masts of moored yachts.

 Smoker’s Delight Restaurant, Santa Eulalia Smoker’s Delight can make the rare claim to bringing something truly unique to Ibiza’s world of food. The restaurant smokes all their own food on the premises using 100% natural wood pellets in an offset smoker. The method - Low and Slow. The result – just about as succulent and flavoursome beef, turkey and salmon as you will ever taste. Vegans are well cared for including the smoked organic Tofu, the tapas tasters offer a perfect lite bite, and a full night menu that is, well, smoking. The salads look amazing, but our recommendation has to be the Beef Brisket Merienda. A chunk of smoked beef brisket, horse reddish, pickles, mustard and bread.

With a pedigree of such distinction, you won’t find a better place for a traditional Paella or some fresh caught local fish. But it also offers far more. The La Cantina kitchen is also home to 3 specialist chefs each taking care over their respective Thai, Indian and TexMex division.

 Peppers2 Party Bar Dance till dawn? You betcha, and we don’t want any of that ‘I’m too old for all that now’ nonsense either. In Ibiza there is no such thing as too old, and Peppers2 is a fine example of an all night party bar that will see everybody from barely legal to rather regal bopping the night away. See the agenda for special events, but every night you are guaranteed a warm welcome from Chaz and the team. Take a cocktail or two on the terrace, then head inside to show us your moves.

 Donnegans Irish Pub It is hard to know what category to list Donnegans, as they do many things, and do them all very well. Day and night it is a bar with a welcome as warm as the draught Guiness and magners are cold. They show all sports including hurling, and have a great menu of reasonabl;y priced home cooked food from snacks to full meals. But it is perhaps their entertainment that really sets them apart. With a regular line up of live performers with the common denominator of making sure everyone has a great time. Check our agenda and their facebook for events.

With 5 top quality courts (2 clay, 3 artificial grass), a bar, pool, sun-terrace and beautiful garden Viva Tennis is the essential destination on Ibiza to play tennis and relax with friends. Whether you are a complete beginner or regular player their team of international coaches can improve anyone’s game.

Plus, and though it might not be a big one for tourists, it certainly is for us residents—proper pies pasties & sausage rolls. With 5 big screen TVs and 4 satellite streams, whatever your sporting preference, if it’s on, they’ve got it.

San Antonio Bay Food & Drink  Johnny’s Pub, Established 1993 Johnny’s is a Bay institution. Popular with locals and tourists alike, they are open for food to eat in and takeaway from morning through to late—usually very late, and at some point on your holiday, you’ll be glad of that. We locals can’t have their exceptional English breakfast (above) as often as we’d like, but you’re on holiday, so indulge yourself. Just 4,75€ gets you double British sausage and bacon, double egg, tomatoes, mushrooms, beans, fried slice, toast and tea or coffee—plus a portion of jam for reasons we’ve never fully understood.

You’ll be happier, she will be happier, just don’t think too much about your accruing credit card bill while you enjoy a game.

In the heart of San Antonio Bay, Aperture Terrace is something of an Ibizan secret, a hidden gem. Invisible from the street, just a few footsteps upstairs take you to a chic retreat that could be a million miles from the hustle & bustle below. All the beach club charm, without the competing hordes or the annoying travel, Aperture is accessible luxury on your doorstep. Book a bed by day, dip in the pool and delight at the menu, or make it your sunset choice for cocktails where the only crush is the ice in your mojito. Just don’t tell everybody.

Booking with immediate confirmation is available on the website.

A shabby chic style, contemporary but comfortable, spectacular views, and a modern and very well considered Asian Tapas menu.

Shebizan  Amanda O’Riordan We’re gradually coming to the end of a sweltering August, much of it spent by me in the Balearics. Having spent most of it complaining to my poor husband about how rubbish our Med-based air-conditioning is, I’ve been contemplating ways to keep cool. One of the worst (first world) problems is having long thick hair. Which I do, so I had a couple of inches cut off the length. Nevertheless, it still creates a sweaty back and neck. So, we girls all reach for the nearest bobble and pop it up into a messy top knot or bun. Well, I do. It’s a timeless, sexy, boho look. In recent years, the bun has spread to the male species, and the ‘Man Bun’ is a trend. Think David Beckham, think Harry Styles, think Russell Brand. For those boho guys who are too impatient to grow their actual hair (or don’t have enough to do so), the “clip-on man bun” is on sale now. There have always been fake clip-on buns for girls, but with the man-bun trend, it was only a matter of time before someone spotted the gap in the market. Groupon has posted a tongue-incheek offer for a £9.99 clip-on man bun that, fortunately, knows just how ridiculous it is: “This attachable— and, equally important, detachable—man bun lets you blend in with your surroundings, putting it on when you smell fairtrade coffee or hear a banjo, and taking it off when someone utters the word bro.” I’ll leave you with that thought and move onto this week’s issue. Silver was seen everywhere on the VMAs Red Carpet this week, Botox is now available at Superdrug and we discover a new bra which adapts to our everchanging breasts.

 Read Amanda’s fashion blog http:// amandazipsitup.com/

Silver Shines At The VMA’s It seems it was all about the colour silver on this year’s VMAS red carpet. That’s MTV’s Video Music Awards 2018, if you’re slightly off grid right now. In previous years bold and bright colours as well as other metallics such as gold and copper were the standout, however this year silver seemed to be the reoccurring theme for the night. I’m more partial to gold it has to be said, but I love the youthful, futuristic glamour this metallic shade brings to an event like this. From Ariana Grande in a structured space-like design and Ashanti shimmering in a sexy metallic dress, to the queen of awards ceremonies Jennifer Lopez, the shine was very real on the red carpet this year as silver took the spotlight. Expect to see it filter through to a high street near you, just in time for Christmas Party Season.

Botox At Superdrug I never thought I’d see the day, but Botox is now available on your local high street, at Superdrug of all places. Superdrug has launched a Skin Renew service in one of their London stores, where customers 25 and older can receive Botox or dermal fillers. The retailer plans to roll out this in-house surgery service nationwide. I hear whooping and cheering everywhere – especially as it’s only £99 – although what that covers I’m not sure A word of warning though, before you jump on the tube to the Strand branch, near Leicester Square. When undergoing these procedures, needles are penetrated through the patient’s facial skin and muscles to place the Botox or filler in the right places. If the needles are inserted in the wrong place, nerve damage can be caused, leading to skin necrosis, blindness or paralysis of the muscles causing deformation of a patient’s face. This might be temporary but it can also be permanent. Will a drugstore with the traffic of thousands of people per day be able to guarantee their patients a sterile environment? Fillers and Botox always require a face-toface consultation prior to administration and must be regulated by the Care Quality Commission. One would assume that Superdrug have done their prep and prepared a medically suitable environment, as an infection is but one of the complications that can occur after having one of these procedures. We are witnessing an increasing number of younger women who have had their lips done, cheek fillers and Botox (coughs ‘Kylie Jenner’). This is caused in part by the influence of shows like the Kardashians and Love Island, where so many of the contestants admit to using surgery to achieve their photo-friendly looks. Superdrug sponsored the reality TV show, so it’s unsurprising that they’re keen to cash in on people wanting the “Love Island look”. Superdrug comments: ‘We’re listening to what people are telling us they would like, which is the reassurance that if they choose to have aesthetic treatments then it will be administered by highly qualified nurse practitioners in a private consultation room.’ Now where’s my Oyster Card?

The Anesi Everchanging Bra Women everywhere know the struggle of too-tight bra straps and ill-fitting underwire, but this revolutionary piece of underwear claims to be the end to all discomfort. The Anesi Bra, from emerging Canadian brand House of Anesi, features gel straps and a flexible fabric that adapt to the shape of a woman's body. Is this the world's most high-tech bra? Underwear with gel straps and flexible fabric can grow up to TWO cup and back sizes - putting an end to red marks and painful underwire. The underwear comes in sizes 32B to 42I, making it the first bra that grows and shrinks in line with the natural fluctuations of a woman's breast shape. However, high street shoppers hoping to get their hands on the bra will be left disappointed, as the product is still in the crowdfunding stage, with its creators seeking to raise £39,000 to launch the product. For £77, this bra can cope with a breast size which fluctuates constantly due to hormonal changes such as getting your period, gaining or losing weight and pregnancy. The gel straps promise to adapt like water and mould to the shoulders natural contours. This in turn distributes weight evenly across the back, reducing red marks and cooling the skin. The fabric also has the ability to 'snap back' after it has been stretched to a larger size. Good luck to Anesi, and let’s hope to see this Bra in Victoria Secrets and M&S lingerie departments everywhere soon.

Agenda  Flamingos come each year to feed in the Ses Salines Natural Park

The Balearics, A Bird Watching Destination The Tourism Strategy Agency (Aetib) has attended the international British Birdwatching Fair in Rutland (United Kingdom), to present the Balearic Islands as a birdwatching destination, due to growing a motivation for visitors to the islands. Each year, more than 300 species of migratory birds visit the Balearic Islands, mainly in autumn, winter and spring.

Ses Salines Natural Park Ses Salines is important to many birds on their migration. Up to 210 species pass through Ses Salines each year. The most famous and anticipated are the flamingos who rest and feed in the lagoon for several days each year, to the delight of Ibizans. Other important species include the black-winged stilt, the shelduck, the snowy plover and sea birds including Audouin´s gull and the Balearic shearwater.

Privilege 25 Anniversary  Saturday 25th August, midnight, San Rafael Privilege originally opened in 1978, under the name ‘Club San Rafael’ with only an outdoor pool; it then changed to "KU" and became famous all over the world. It then established itself as Privilege Ibiza 25 years ago. The history of Privilege Ibiza can be linked to the development of nightlife in Ibiza, beginning when the fundamental values that made Ibiza a unique place in the world were tolerance, generosity and the universality of the people. On Saturday, August 25th, you are invited to join Privilege in the celebration of their Silver anniversary. There are no VIP tickets or lists, the music will be from the 80’s and 90’s, and you can celebrate the time when Ibiza was just about fun and freedom - when DJs weren’t rock stars and before luxury tourism and the VIP culture. In charge of the beats for the night are DJ Kique Supermix, DJ Oliver, Nurai, and the live act of Nalaya.

New Year’s EVE (02/09) Lío Ibiza, Ibiza Fancy something quirky in your summer calendar? Well look no further than the New Years Eve party being held on the 33rd August from 9pm at the uber cool cabaret club Lío Ibiza. Lío Ibiza’s New Year's Eve was born 5 years ago with the intention of celebrating a night full of happiness, at least twice a year, the official one and Lío Ibiza’s very own special one. Lío’s New Year’s Eve is a magical night, full of good wishes and, of course, the best show and gastronomy in the world. This year, Lío Ibiza’s summer New Years Eve falls on the 33rd August (that’s 2nd September to the disbelievers). So, what can you expect, well there will be the chimes that fall at midnight, and the traditional Spanish 12 grapes which have to be eaten on each chime. The decoration will be gold themed and dress code ‘Gala New Year’s Eve’ (dust off your sequins and think glitzy glamour) . There is no word on the menu as yet, but you can be assured that everything will be to the delight of the guests.

Nightmares on Wax Review Las Dalias by Claire B Nightmares on Wax performed a full live set on August 16 at Wax Da Jam at Las Dalias, the second of only two live shows in Ibiza this year during their current world tour. The courtyard at Las Dalias is such an intimate space and with the stage set up as a living room with a sofa and chairs, it was obvious from the start that we were going to be treated to something special. When George (aka Nightmares on Wax) took to the stage, the first thing he did was to cleanse and bless the space with burning sage and welcome us into their living room. He was joined by singers Sadie Walker and Leigh Kenny who lounged in chairs on either side of the stage, moving to the front of the stage when they were taking the lead vocals. Meanwhile, from his sofa at the back, George performed electronic wizardry from his gadgets and produced amazing music, occasionally getting up to sing, rap, chat and dance, whilst drummer Grant Kershaw kept the beats going. We were treated to tracks from the new album Shape The Future plus some old favourites, all of which went down perfectly will the chilled crowd who danced and revelled in what they were experiencing in front of them. Afterwards the party moved inside and Buckley and George entertained us with some truly magnificent music on the decks - I haven't danced so much for ages - a wonderful and special evening in a great place with lots of lovely people. The final Wax Da Jam night is on September 6, with music from DJs Andy Wilson, Adam Regan (Leftfoot) plus in da club afterwards, Nightmares On Wax (DJ set) B2B with Simon Dunmore, Negghead and Shovell on percussion.

Community Weather 24th August— 30th August 2018 ARIES – Knight of Swords Put your energy into new ventures; believe you can succeed this week and you will! Your good ideas impress the right people, as you appear confident. Those of you, who write for a living or work with business via the internet, will be brilliantly inspired. A trivial gripe leads to a huge fall out unless nipped in the bud quickly. TAURUS – Ace of Swords (reversed) Don’t be tempted to throw your weight around by insisting that others do things your way, as this may provoke reactions, which could lead to arguments. Your energy levels are affected this week; you may need to delegate more but avoid being bossy. If you fail to feel inspired, accept this week for what it is and rest up. GEMINI – Seven of Pentacles You’ve planted the seeds for a new lifestyle and all you have to do is be patient while plans are germinating. If you’re the creative type, now’s the time to get cracking on an important project as you’ll be inspired to create masterpieces! For other more practical Gemini’s, you can confidently invest in a new venture, it will pay off. CANCER – The Sun Look after your health and well-being this week so you can have more vitality to get on and do the things matter to you. A new fitness regime will help your general mood as well. In business, the Sun heralds a new period of success, with new ventures doing particularly well. It’s a time to be happy and show gratitude. LEO – The Lovers This eek you’ll be presented with choices so think carefully about what you really want out of life and pursue that whole heartedly. You also make new contacts that prove useful for the future; both professionally and personally as well. Romance for single Leo’s will be light hearted and flirty; you may have more than one choice of playmate too! VIRGO – Two of Cups This week sees the start of a beautiful new friendship or romance. You’ll both be kind and thoughtful of one another and it’s certainly a relationship that will stand the test of time. For those of you who are attached; a relationship becomes closer and you’re open to making more of a commitment. Good news gives you something to celebrate. LIBRA – Two of Wands You may hear news that’s initially disappointing but don’t feel too bad if it means that a plan falls through. It’s all about timing this week and other issues will need your urgent attention. If you have to make a stand over something; speak your truth and reject any proposal that doesn’t ring true. You’re not a pushover by any means! SCORPIO – Five of Wands Make an effort to get involved with a new project or business opportunity that you would be wise to follow up on. However, pedantically negotiating for better terms means you could lose out if you hesitate. This week get out and about, flirt, be social and to remind your wider circle of what they’ve been missing; your fabulous self! SAGITTARIUS – Two of Pentacles This could be a frustrating week financially, as nothing seems to go smoothly with one hold-up after another. You’re ready to move forward however, it seems others are dragging their feet. Also, watch out for some underhanded actions from others. Are associates being straightforward or using you for fresh ideas without offering the appropriate compensation? Weigh up your choices carefully. CAPRICORN – The Magician (reversed) You might be tempted to show off in order to get yourself noticed, you certainly won’t want your audience to forget you! If you’re trying to impress, make sure you have the knowledge and knowhow to back up your claims. It would be wise to include some openness and flexibility at work, so not to be considered unoriginal or stubborn. AQUARIUS – Three of Cups Your talents will be recognised this week and others want to congratulate and enjoy your success with you too. It’s time to celebrate after a bout of anxiety, so let your hair down and let your social side shine through. Fame is often associated with this card, so depending what you do, expect the reward for all your hard work. PISCES – Justice (reversed) Deadlines you hoped to meet seem out of reach. However, don’t give up yet, it will take patience and tenacity to get what you want. Ignore those who insist in throwing a spanner in the works. Others may judge you unfairly, but you can cope! If you’re studying; don’t get side-tracked. In legal matters, you feel a decision is unfair.

God’s Kind Of Love

I always took it for granted that Jesus´ name was Jesus! It is very curious I guess that most Christians seem to think that also. However, Jesus was an Israeli Jew – a first century rabbi who spoke Hebrew and Aramaic and, naturally, he had a Hebrew name. His name in Hebrew was (and is) YESHUA. The Apostle Paul wrote the following letter to

Community We have had donations from minimally British, Irish, Italian and Dutch, which is also great. There is still time if you want to donate, or simply to leave a message of thanks and support to be passed on to the staff or Urgencias. I have asked Carly Marie Sorensen and Pam Bennett to be our community representatives, they will now take the money and I will update when it comes to making the donation.

Kids Clean Up at Caló des Moro 29 kilos of waste collected More than fifty children from Es Nàutic sailing school spent their Tuesday morning cleaning the Caló des Moro beach as part of a campaign promoted by Coca-Cola, in collaboration with the San Antonio City Council. The aim was to highlight the importance of caring for the environment and began with a small talk about the conservation of our seas, followed by the collection of rubbish. The objective of this initiative is to collect the existing waste from the beaches and, above all, to raise awareness and inform Ibizan’s and visitors about the importance of keeping marine spaces clean. In total, 29 kilos of waste were collected from the beach of Caló des Moro, including plastics, general waste and a large number of cigarette butts, which pose a great detriment to the environment.

Can Misses Fundraiser Thank you so much to everybody who donated and/or left messages of support. The amount raised stands at 710€ from 39 separate donations. These included some very generous individual amounts and several donations from regular tourists - nice touch so thank you very much for those.

Sandcastle Winners

Colin Butts Tribute

 Cala Llonga

 September 11th, Port des Torrent & San Antonio

On Wednesday 15th August, as part of the Cala Llonga Fiesta, a Sandcastle Competition was held on the beach (obviously) with 31 families taking part. The eventual winner, despite many, many, amazing entries was a Spanish family from the mainland with a magnificent construction. Well done everyone who took part and we hope you enjoyed your holiday.

DJ Helpline Facebook Post by Shoba Ram We know that the music industry can be and seem like a lot of fun & frolics but trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle alongside that mayhem just isn't that easy for some. Constant touring, staying up all hours and throw in the mix of drugs, booze and meds then it's clearly going to fuck you up. I've worked with many DJs and artists with support with their mental health and addictions but did you know and heard of Music Minds Matter?

We will publish details again and more fully closer to the time, but for now a heads up for the details of the Ibiza tribute to Colin Butts. The following from close friend Stephen Lawrence. "Colin and Chani’s ashes will be scattered at Port des Torrent beach at sundown on the 11th September (8.10pm) The dress code is white and purple. It would be great if we could all assemble at Colin’s old villa (Carrer Des Torrio - see map link above) at 7pm to walk the route that Colin and Chani used to take to the beach (7.30, it takes less than 15 minutes to walk). Afterwards we will independently make our way to Pearl at Ocean Beach where we will be showing a number of video montages and one or two people will say a few words. Then it’s party time! Until the wee hours with Alex Ellenger, Clara Da Costa, Stephen Karbaron and other special guest dj’s. On the 12th, it’s all over to Plastik for a special VIP event." Bloop Festival 2018 ‘Hope’ Ibiza Town, August 23 to September 8, by Claire B The Bloop Festival (the International Proactive Art Festival) returns to Ibiza Town from August 23 to September 8. As well as being responsible for the large-scale murals that have been painted in San Antonio and Ibiza Town over the last few years, the festival always puts on some interesting events featuring renowned International artists. An avant-garde project by Biokip Labs, the world’s first proactive art festival came to life in 2011. Based on the ethos that ‘Art is for everybody’, this fiesta is entirely free. They encourage the general public to reflect on current social issues through art, breathtaking art that is understandable for everybody. Each year the festival includes gigantic murals, interactive installations, music, workshops, parties, video mappings/installations, new media art, traditional paintings, sculptures, street art, special events, contests, photography and much more. Every edition addresses a specific theme, which artists build their work on, which this year is ‘Hope’. Their

works communicate a clear message, encouraging the spectator to reflect on the annual theme, sensitising any person who comes into contact with them.
