Chocolate Packaging
Nicky Hope Brief 7 Design Boards
Brief 01/06 Spend a day creating some packaging for a chocolatier based in Northumberland. Take a large amount of inspiration from Scandinavian graphic design to create a minimal but interesting appearance.
Audience 02/06 The product is targeted at people who embrace technology and fashion, and who live a minimalist but enjoyable lifestyle. They're more likely to be young than old, and male over female. Major sources of inspiration were found in modernist industrial design, consumer technology and Scandinavian fashion. Customers appreciate the product for its artisan, minimalist but unique look.
Typeface 03/06 Gelion has been chosen as the primary typeface because of its Nordic, contemporary and highly readable appearance. It works well at small and large sizes, and fits in well with the brand's tone of voice.

Feedback 04/06 In feedback sessions, the layout and colour-identification gradients were praised, but the original typeface (San Francisco) was identified as being too technical and cold. This led to the switch to Gelion, which was chosen for its more friendly, rounded and appropriate aesthetic.
Digital Prototyping 05/06 Photorealistic mockups were created to assess the suitability of the designs for actual product use, and to allow the viewer to more easily imagine them as physical objects. Had this not been an intentionally short brief, physical mockups could have been created.
Purpose 06/06 The purpose of this short brief was to strengthen my personal link to more traditional aspects of graphic design, in order to carry these positive apects on into my exclusive focus on user interface design. It is important to keep this link strong in order to create exciting UI design.
