Letter From The Editor When we decided to start this magazine, people said we were crazy. "Magazines are dead," everyone said, and we agree. The old standard of magazine publishing is dead because today's woman is smart, savvy and can read between the lines. They know when the advice given is masked as editorial content but really comes from a key advertiser. They know when a story has been recycled and regurgitated 50 times in 50 different ways. Newsstands are filled with magazines that are designed to line the pockets of the suits and investors, who are mostly men.
When online media companies and blogs began to pop up women flocked to this "new media" with fervor and excitement and let's face it, we all get a good bit of news, fashion tips and other lifestyle material from online resources. However, in the last few years volume of online media content has become completely overwhelming and we felt it was time to get back to basics in a totally modern, fresh and future seeking way. So, we created Nicole Magazine to give women something to read cover-to-cover with real, engaging fresh content. Think of us as the curators
of the huge wealth of information out there. We promise to give you something you have yet to discover in each issue. We promise never to sell out to advertisers. We promise to always care about what's new fresh, affordable, but also what's worth the "splurge." Most of all, we promise to create a magazine you actually want to read cover to cover...and the best part is we distribute the magazine in Blo Blow-dry bars, salons, spas and boutiques where you actually have the time to read it cover to cover! Enjoy the journey!

5 Ways To Get
What You Want by Vanessa Scotto
Vanessa Scotto is a Life Coach and Educator. Vanessa’s innovative blend of Neuroscience, Psychology, Eastern Wisdom has helped hundreds of clients experience life-transforming adventures. For more info on Vanessa go to www.vanessascotto.com In life many of us stand in our own way to success. Here are 5 ways you can take control over your life and get what you want!
Don't wait for fear to pass Waiting to act until you have no fear will keep you waiting forever. Anything worth doing triggers fear. What defines people who succeed is that they feel the fear and act anyway. If you've been stuck in fear let Nelson Mandela inspire you: “I felt fear myself more times than I can remember, but I hid it behind a mask of boldness. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”
Don't Take It Personally In business, and in life, people's actions are rarely about you. They're not aim-
ing to take you down or disrespect you. They're aiming to make themselves happy. When you're swept up in the “how dare you do this to me cycle,” emotions can create negative reactions and cloud your decisions. By remembering it's not about you personally you're free to see more angles and make powerful choices.
Ask For What You Need Successful people confidently ask for what they want. Often we worry about bothering people or hearing the word no. The bottom line is you have the right to ask and they have the right to say no. There are no villains and victims, just adults with rights. Don't worry about the results. Just know that asking is the first step to getting.
Be Helpful Movers and shakers know how to create and leverage relationships. No one does it alone. To build a network first be useful to others. Rather than wondering what they can do for you, think about what you can do for them. By acting with genuine generosity you create the types of networks that will uplift you in return.
Shift your expectations Stress arises when our expectations and reality clash. Big dreams aren't meant to be easy. The right path there will bring lots of serendipity but everything in life has its challenges. When you hit a road bump don't despair or give up. See it as part of the journey that will bring you closer to where you want to be.

Around the
Christmas Tree
by Janet Jones
The holiday season has arrived, which means our social calendars fill up quickly with many events that involve food. Factor in the cooler weather which often leads to the rationalization that a "chunky sweater can hide the muffin top I've developed by shoving all sorts of yummy carbs, triple buttered everything and pies baked by heaven's angels into your mouth, and before you know it, you’ve packed on extra unwanted pounds. But fear not, as these effective moves from The Vixen Workout (www.vixenworkout.com) done in a sequence will help you keep the right kind of curves. 32 Hip-Swings Stand with your hands in the Hunger Pose and legs in a wide V. Swing your hips side to side (not bending your knees) and twist your waist as far as you can. For example, when you swing your hip right, your left elbow goes back and the right goes forward. This exercise helps slim hips & waistlines 8 Slow Knee Rises with punches Bring one of your knees up and your chest down to meet your knee, while punching down as hard as you can. Alternate knees. 8 Fast Knee Rises Keep your chest straight, and almost running in place get your knees up. *Repeat Knee Rise combination 4 times 8 Burn Combo Jump Lunge Right, Jump Lunge Left, Jump Squat Feet Together 8 Work B*tch Combos 2 Jump Squats. In the squat position, bring you left knee in & out and do the same in & out with the right knee. Finish in a Plank for 1 minute Push off the floor, raising up onto toes and resting on the elbows. Keep your back flat, in a straight line from head to heels. Tilt your pelvis and contract your abdominals to prevent your rear end from sticking up in the air or sagging in the middle. REPEAT 3 times

Beat Holiday Breakouts:
Keep Skin Clear This Season by Aryka Ishmon We all know that the stress of the holidays can take a toll on our skin which can lead to breakouts. Add in late nights of holiday party hopping and who can blame a girl for crashing as soon she gets home without washing off her makeup and the grime of the day? We asked an expert, Dermatologist, Director of Ethnic Skincare at University of Miami and Co-founder of Specific Beauty, Dr. Heather Woolery Lloyd to see what really happens when you skip the evening scrub in favor of sweet slumber. Dr. Llyoday says that "when you sleep in your makeup it can become comedogenic and cause breakouts. By removing makeup every night can prevent these holiday flares." She also suggests skipping the harsh scrubs for something more gentle. "Gentle exfoliation in the winter is important because the skin is much mores sensitive, so avoid harsh scrubs that contain sharp edged particles," quips Lloyd. Perfect for the tired or forgetful (or tipsy) girl, who can't muster the strength to wash up at the end of the night, yet doesn't want breakouts are the Specific Beauty Exfoliating Cleansing Cloths. These affordable ($10, www.specificbeauty. com) and easy-to-use double sided wipes - one side has textured beads for exfoliation and the other side is a smooth for easy and gentle makeup removal - require no rinsing or water so there is no excuse to clean your face. The wipes are fragrance, oil and alcohol free and contain a blend of Aloe, Green Tea and Vitamin E to soothe and calm the skin. The Specific Beauty Exfoliating Cleansing Cloths are hypoallergenic and are gentle enough for daily and nightly use. Leave the wipes bedside if needed, and that way waking up will be much prettier!
