Letter From The Editor When we decided to start this magazine, people said we were crazy. "Magazines are dead," everyone said, and we agree. The old standard of magazine publishing is dead because today's woman is smart, savvy and can read between the lines. They know when the advice given is masked as editorial content but really comes from a key advertiser. They know when a story has been recycled and regurgitated 50 times in 50 different ways. Newsstands are filled with magazines that are designed to line the pockets of the suits and investors, who are mostly men.

When online media companies and blogs began to pop up women flocked to this "new media" with fervor and excitement and let's face it, we all get a good bit of news, fashion tips and other lifestyle material from online resources. However, in the last few years volume of online media content has become completely overwhelming and we felt it was time to get back to basics in a totally modern, fresh and future seeking way. So, we created Nicole Magazine to give women something to read cover-to-cover with real, engaging fresh content. Think of us as the curators

of the huge wealth of information out there. We promise to give you something you have yet to discover in each issue. We promise never to sell out to advertisers. We promise to always care about what's new fresh, affordable, but also what's worth the "splurge." Most of all, we promise to create a magazine you actually want to read cover to cover...and the best part is we distribute the magazine in Blo Blow-dry bars, salons, spas and boutiques where you actually have the time to read it cover to cover! Enjoy the journey!

As summer fades, and the leaves start to crisp, fall fashions begin to take full effect. Leaving our colorful summer crushes behind breaks our pop-of-color hearts, but don’t fret my dear. Just because we’ll be bundled up, doesn’t mean we need to leave style behind, especially while we are heading to the gym to maintain that summer bod. Here’s some of our Fall Fitness Must-Haves:

3O

4 O

1• Threads 4 Thought Sports Bra ($40): Sports bras are usually chosen based on pure function, but with Thread 4 Thought not only can they feel amazing they look just as wonderful. Plus, all of the Thread 4 Thought pieces are manufactured using organic cotton and recycled polyester made from recycled water bottles. Giving you just a little extra Zen during your Shavasana. 2• ZeroWater Water Bottle ($17.99): Lugging around clean water can get a little tiresome. ZeroWater has created a tumbler with it’s own built in filtration system that leaves zero dissolved solids behind. You can filter your water on the go, giving you the purest tasting water imaginable. 3• M. Linney Leggings ($10): Whether it’s for actually heading to the gym, or just looking like we might, a great pair of leggings is necessary. M.Linney has a fantastic pair of navy leggings that are going to look just as oh-so-cute tucked in to your boots as they will on your mat! 4• My Other Bag ($35): My Other Bag is an every-season favorite here at Nicole Magazine. This eco-friendly, recyclable tote, is printed on with vegetable dye. So ease your mind, and leave your Louis Vuitton at home. My Other Bag is perfect for all your gym accessories this Fall.

5 O 5

5• BODY POP Jacket ($108): BODYPOP is a new active wear line by Blogilates own Cassey Ho. This fitness YouTube sensation is taking fashionable active wear to the next level. We love this Royal Peplum jacket in Night. Throwing this stylized jacket on over your yoga clothes is a quick way to dress up your look for running errands before and after class. Maybe even stop to grab a green juice with the girls. (Plus, it has pockets and thumb holes!)

The Barbie Lagerfeld Barbie Doll. Limited availability starts September 29th, 2014.

“IT,IF YOU YOU CAN DREAM CAN BE IT. ”

Barbie is making a comeback and using her fashionable friends and social media

to do it! Ever since Ruther Handler created Barbie in 1959, she’s been making headlines and popping up on wish lists all across the globe, but in recent years Barbie’s taken heat for her disproportionate body and garnered criticism by feminists for being “flighty” in her career endeavors. We personally feel that Barbie has represented to girls that you can do anything you set your mind to and her career hopping made it cool to like science, math and even politics. Barbie’s impact on modern society is undeniable. Mattel’s recent reinvention of the brand includes partnerships with fast fashion retailer Forever 21 and Wildfox. Barbie also launched on Instagram in August to show off her iconic street style. The account blew up and now Barbie has over 300,000 followers.

BARBIE FUN FACTS THAT MAKE HER BAD ASS

The brand is also launching Barbie Lagerfeld on September 29th and marks the first doll modeled after a living fashion designer. The doll will feature the signature style of the famed fashion designer — black blazer, black fingerless gloves and metallic accents. Only 999 dolls will be produced and will sell for approximately $200 USD. Visit Net-A-Porter.com, select Karl Lagerfeld retail stores, TheBarbieCollection. com and Colette in Paris to score your Karl Lagerfeld Barbie. These days you can find Barbie front row at fashion shows, taking selfies, and oh yeah...being an astronaut, entrepreneur, blogger, fashionista, and more. Barbie represents every woman (but much cooler).

• Full Name: Barbara Millicent Roberts • From: (fictional) Willows, Wisconsin • Although she has never won an election, Barbie® has run for president 6 times since1992 • Barbie® recently announced she will be celebrating women in business with her new role as an entrepreneur • Barbie® traveled into space in 1965, four years before man walked on the moon • Barbie® first appeared in the now-famous black-and-white striped swimsuit • Barbie® doll’s first pet was a horse named Dancer • Barbie® doll’s signature color is Barbie™ Pink (PMS 219) • The best-selling Barbie® doll ever was 1992 Totally Hair™ doll, with hair from the top of her head to her toes.

What’s in her beauty bag?

•Barbie’s hair is styled with hair gel exclusively formulated for her. •Barbie’s best hair tool is a paintbrush and water, perfect for flyaway hairs for closeup headshots.

Photos from the Dreamhouse Barbie campaign by Wildfox

•Bad hair day? Even Barbie gets tangled up. A light conditioner and water does the trick to manage her mane.

Positano: A slice of Italy

By Lori Riviere

21

As the weather starts to cool down for fall, a Mediterranean getaway seems like the perfect escape. Positano’s postcard views, relaxed vibe, built-ingym with its one- way street down the mountainside and delicious food make it the ideal locale for a European jaunt.

Q

Getting there:

Fly into Naples or Sorrento. There is a direct bus from the Naples airport offered from Positano Shuttle for 35 € (www.positanoshuttle.com) or you may take a hydrofoil offered by several companies departing from the port for 29 €. When you arrive in Positano you will want to book a porter for about 10 € to take your luggage to your hotel. Most hotels are located up a steep hill with lots of stairs to navigate, so porter service is necessary to avoid injuring yourself.

C

Where to Stay:

Hotel Posa Posa. Via Pasitea 165 – 84017. (www.hotelposaposa.com). Perfectly situated on one of the best spots on the town’s hill. Just high enough for a great view, but close enough where you won’t tire of the walk to and from the town center. Be sure to book a room with a view.

B

Where to Eat:

La Tagliata. Via Tagliata, 22, 84017. This restaurant is perched high up on the mountain top of the town above Positano. They have a shuttle that will pick you up from your hotel or meeting point and whisk you away to this mountain hideaway with breathtaking views. Be sure to reserve a table with a view. There is no menu. Everything is served family style in the family run restaurant with Mama in the kitchen. There are five courses served including an antipasti, pasta course, meat course and dessert course. No need

to fret if you are served something you don’t love because there is more food that you could ever eat. By the third course the pants came unbuttoned and we prayed we wouldn’t like anything else. Dinner for two runs around 70 €. Next 2. Via Pasitea, 242, 84017. Picturesque views and excellent food at this chic eatery. Uber fresh ingredients and interesting modern takes on classic coastal Italian cuisine with a great wine list. Casa e Bottega. Via Pasitea, 100, 84017. The perfect lunch spot with organic ingredients and delectable desserts. This shop and restaurant in one is owned by the same woman who owns Next 2. She opened the restaurants after her husband died about ten years ago and the food and service indicate this is her new love. Lunch for two with dessert runs around 40 €. Ristorante Max. Piazza dei Mulini, 22, 84017. A quiet oasis amid the bustle of the town center. You wont find a view here, but you will find fresh food and handmade pasta with delicious seafood. Dinner for two with wine and dessert runs around 100 €.

J

Where to lounge:

The main beach is Marina Grande , so if you want be in the middle of the action this is the place to see and be seen. Our pick is the decidedly more low-key Fornillo Beach which you access using a staircase around the corner from Hotel Posa Posa. The beach has a gorgeous view of the town center and comfortable beach chair and food offered by Hotel Pupetto. You can rent a chairs, order drinks and food and relax like a champ!
