The Brief - Paperchase
Paperchase is now an international stationery shop which has a good reputation for their products. The shop sells a range of stationery, sketchbooks, photo albums, office equipment and other gift idea's. A lot of their design styles follow popular culture trends and often feature illustration. The target market for the shop is mostly feminine and covers a vast age range.

Preparation & Research
Design a range of stationery for Paperchase which is in keeping with the style of their products but not repeating what has been before. Consider the target audience of people who shop there and consider trending patterns and try to avoid the obvious.
Go to paperchase and look at existing products, get a feel for their designs. Look at other existing stationery sets.

Research
Alternative Stationery Idea’s. The box packaged stationery sets look really professioal and tie the items together well. The natural brown colours and paper used gives the produts a rustic less mass produced feel that is very popular among people today. I have included examples of hand-rendered type as this often goes well with illustration and is also rather
popular considering the target market of people who shop in Paperchase. I want to create items that is not just necessarily the what is normally considered to be stationery eg. pens, pencils, rubbers, sharpeners etc.

Development
Here you can see the development of the illustrations. The original drawings were scanned in at too low a quality in order to be live traced which then became a problem as they had to be digitalised. Initially I attempted to use a wacom tablet in illustrator to re-draw the images. This ended up with a more cartoon like octopus which was undesired. Eventually with practice and tracing over the scanned drawings with the
wacom tablet the illustrations became clean digital versions of the original drawings. To add colour and texture to a few of the designs, I then created watercolour textures which were scanned in to create the background colour which also represents water and has a kind of nautical theme.

Logo // Branding
okto okto stationery okto greetings cards okto stamp The logo reflects the illustrations and will work across a range of products. This means that in the future the product range could be stretched further and applied to many more items. The type used is simple and easy to read. This is to not take away from the illustrations as the main focal point will be the octopuses.
The typeface used above is ‘Champagne & Limousines.’ It fits in well with the illustrations beacause it is quite curvacious and the sans serif style keeps it simplistic and fresh.

Final Products
The overall stationery set includes greetings cards, sketchbook, letter headed paper, envelopes, stamp and ink pad. The original packaging for the items was a white box featuring the logo and the ribbon. However after receiving feedback from the critique, it was decided that the items would be more appealing if packaged individually and fits more with how Paperchase would distribute their products.
In the critique the ink pad was said to not quite fit in with the overall style of the products. It was suggested to try and make a wooden box for the ink pad to stay in keeping more with the stamp and overall design of the range.
