FEEL GOOD FRUITS Brief The Feel Good Drinks Brief asked the designer to re-design the labels for their range of drinks, keeping in mind that the brand is healthy and aims to help people ‘feel good.’ Summary I approached the brief in an illustrative way and used strong bright colours to make my designs happy and stand out on the shelf. To try and gain new customers I designed some felty fruity keyrings to give away free with each drink sold individually. Evaluation I enjoyed this brief, it was the first I did in this module and it made a nice change from the Print Module. I could have spent more solid time on the project however. As I just did a little bit here over time and there and concentrated more on other briefs I feel like I didn’t get my teeth into this brief as much as I would have liked. If I had more time I would like to make a stop frame animation using photogprahy and the off-cuts of felt. You can see the off-cuts of felt made into faces on my blog. Overall however I am still pleased with the designs that I achieved and feel like they more portray my ability than previous briefs in the year.

TO DRY FOR Brief To design an illustration to be screenprinted onto tea towel, therefore consider colour and colour seperation. The subject matter is completely up to the designer. Summary To begin I drew up a spider diagram of possible things to illustrate. I then decided that personified animals were quite popular and always get a laugh. I moved on to drawing some exercising woodland creatures. My favourite was the hula hooping squirrell so I drew it up properly and partnered it with the caption ‘A moment on the lips, forever on the hips.’ I thought this would be humorous to housewives/husbands as many people nowadays are concerned with weight. Evaluation I am happy with the result fom this brief. Looking back now I wish I had created more designs as the brief was so open it was good but also at the same time bad because you don’t know where to start.

A moment on the lips, forever on the hips!

Ella’s Kitchen Brief To communicate the brand values of Ella’s Kitchen to current and future stakeholders through the use of a toolkit. Summary Katie and I worked as a team on the Ella’s Kitchen Brief. We started by drawing up design sheets and brainstorming and then came up with the idea of a tree, and that it could symbolise growing up big and strong, exacly what the brand is there to help to do. We then laser cut a tree and some informative hanging decorations. This we thought would be good to show to clients. Evaluation I think Katie and I worked well together as we have similar interests within design. It was good working with her as we both have said it pushed us to try doing something a little out of our comfort zones. It’s also good having someone to talk to about your work that knows what you’re going on about.

Batiste Brief To invent 4 new fragrances of dry shampoo and design the packaging/ identity for them. It had to have stand out shelf appeal and be on trend. Summary For this brief I tried to think of current trends, or reasons why people may need dry shampoo, that’s why all my designs have a summery feel as it is coming up to summer. I started off with illustrating then moved on to editing digitally. I chose a colour pallette that I thought worked well together and would stand out on the shelf. Evaluation I am happy with the designs for this project, I think they work well as a set and I think I had a good concept. If I could improve it at all I would improve my mocking up skills. I intend to learn how to do this on photoshop, after this module, I feel like I’ve had to mock a lot of things up and it would be a good skill to have if I could do it well.

Hellfire Brief Creative Networks set us a brief to re-design the Hellfire beer label. Summary For the Hellfire brief I began drawing up a few idea’s. I tried to make the label look on trend to get young males to buy into the brand. Evaluation This brief I struggled with most out of the module as I felt uninspired at the beginning, but looking at other beer label designs helped me to further my idea’s. If I had the opportunity to design beer labels again then I would. If I had more time to spend on this particular brief I would have printed the labels on transparent sticker paper and mock up the designs onto some bottles.

UK Greetings Card Brief To design 4 greetings cards, consider size, message, extra motifs. Summary Looking round a craft fair at Leeds Corn Exchange inspired me to do this brief, there was so many beautiful hand-made cards there. I began by drawing up some designs and then tracing them with the pen tool in illustrator and taking them to the laser cutter. Evaluation This brief I thought was great, it gave me an opportunity to experiment further with my illustration skills and took them onto the laser cutter. I am now comfortable with using the laser cutter alone. This brief has also given me a confidence boost about my designs as a few people have said they’d buy them. I hope to use the laser cutter a lot more in the future as I think it works well with my practice.
