Nikki Beach Saint Tropez fêted its 15th anniversary all summer long with an exciting lineup of parties, live music and world-renowned DJs (including Bob Sinclar). The main event was the 15-year Anniversary Party featuring a live performance by Earth, Wind & Fire. Next, Penrod found that guests were taking the time to shop at local stores, such as Saks Fifth Avenue, to buy the perfect outfit for an afternoon at Nikki Beach. This was an “aha moment,” and it seemed logical to establish a boutique on-site at Nikki Beach. “We started with beach shops inside our beach clubs with basic merchandise,” Penrod describes. “Little by little, we have been growing the fashion side of our business called Lifestyle.” Today, Nikki Beach Lifestyle is a big enterprise, spanning boutiques in 8 locations across the world, fashionthemed events and uniforms for a global staff of thousands. Lubna Zawawi, a good friend of the Penrod family, designed the trademark all white palazzo pants and hand-carved utility belts. “It’s so much easier to provide the staff with just a shirt with a logo,” notes Lucia Penrod, “but by creating our own look, we set the fashion tone for everything else we do at Nikki Beach. And, 17 years later, it has proven to be not only a functional piece but a timeless one.”

welcoming, cozy, sophisticated and modern. “The customer will feel at home at the boutiques,” say Chiarastella Simone, General Manager of the Nikki Beach Lifestyle division. “It’s a relaxing atmosphere.” Another way that Nikki Beach stays on top of the trends is through our What Women Want events, which are fashion-themed runway shows highlighting the top apparel brands, beauty products, makeup and accessories. For good measure, sweet treats and cocktails are thrown into the mix to enhance the retail therapy. “Hosting different designers for these fashion shows is a perfect fit for Nikki Beach,” says Penrod. “It gives our customers a chance to get that unique piece they cannot find at home. Shopping around for luxury, chic beachwear is not an easy job! Our What Women Want events bring the designers to you to make it easier for our Nikki Beach fashionistas.” This winter at the beach, expect to see “ethnic prints, rainbow colors and gorgeous fringe,” according to Simone. In terms of swimwear, the look is: “Single piece swimsuits in all shapes and sizes with cutouts. Body parts are strategically covered—or not—by slashes and cutouts.” Adds Penrod, “Our customers come from all over the world and they bring their shopping goodies with them to Nikki Beach. Sometimes I like to just sit at Nikki Beach Saint Tropez, sipping my Chateau d’Esclan rosé and watching our customers play the perfect fashion show.” NIKKI Style 9

hether it’s one of our over-the-top New Year’s Eve extravaganzas or just a normal Sunday afternoon with our staff dressed in gladiator costumes, the scene is always set for excitement. From Marbella to Dubai, you’ll find Nikki Beach’s signature parties in effect, wowing the crowds with a combination of live performers, fireworks, aerial artists, internationallyrenowned DJs, fashion shows and elaborate props. Our theme parties have become legendary, beginning with the first White Party we hosted for Naomi Campbell in Saint Tropez in 2002. Since then, each of our locations hosts a fabulous White Party at the beginning of their season every year, as well as a closing Red Party at the conclusion of the season. Dressing in all white (or all red) is required, and, judging by their outfits, our guests love being part of the festivities. Over the years, we’ve had performances by major celebrities spanning Mariah Carey, Beyoncé and David Bryan of Bon Jovi, marquee DJs David Guetta and Steve Aoki, as well as dance troupes like Nu Art from Italy. The accompanying décor has matched the caliber of these events, such as the time we imported a custom, all marble piano to Saint Barth for David Bryan’s New Year’s Eve performance. Created by Gualtiero Vanelli from his marble quarry in Carrara, Italy, this piano is a one of a kind piece.

But it doesn’t have to be New Year’s Eve for Nikki Beach to celebrate in grand style. From a location’s anniversary to Bastille Day to just a fun Sunday in paradise, we go all out to make sure our guests have a memorable experience. Nikki Beach Saint Barth, in particular, is one of our most dedicated and enthusiastic locations when it comes to putting on a show. Each week, you’ll find the Saint Barth team dressed like post-apocalyptical warriors in homage to Mad Max or sexy pirates in a nod to their proximity to the Caribbean. In Saint Barth, the man behind the masks is Julien Fletcher, one of our servers. French born Fletcher, who has been working for Nikki Beach Saint Barth for three years, first came up with the idea of decorating the outside of the beach club to attract passersby. Since Saint Barth is such a small island, with one main road, at some point, everyone will drive or walk by Nikki Beach and see these large-scale signs adorning the entrance. In fact, the artsy installations, which change weekly, attract huge crowds. “The reactions are very cool,” Fletcher notes, “cars slow down, scooters break. People can’t miss what we are doing.” Now, Fletcher’s handcrafted signs have become an anticipated part of the Saint Barth scenery, whether it’s his Superhero or Welcome To The Jungle illustrations. From there, Fletcher incorporates the theme into the staff’s costumes, the interior décor and appropriate props. “For me, it’s important that the inside decoration and costumes are similar to the outside decoration,” he says. And since Saint Barth is such a tiny island, Fletcher must be extra creative in order to find his materials, including scouring the two local hardware shops, and perusing sites like eBay and etsy. For the fantastic Mad Max-inspired parties, Fletcher utilizes jumbo tires, old motors and salvaged cars and bikes found on the island.

He handmade an oversized guitar with the Nikki Beach logo, and this has become a signature piece. During the island’s Carnaval celebration in February, Fletcher and several Nikki Beach staffers drove through town in a tricked-out truck, promoting the Mad Max party to cheers and popular acclaim. Other notable events and signs that Fletcher has produced span Nikki Beach’s top themes including Saint & Sinners, What Women Want, Circus party, Halloween and Happy Days. For our Pirate party, he made a montage featuring a treasure map, pirate ship and skull heads. He’s even incorporated illustrations of Marilyn Monroe and Fonzi (from the TV show Happy Days) for various themes. Interestingly, Fletcher does not consider himself an artist—although we here at Nikki Beach disagree. Not only have his beautiful signs and decorations elevated our entertainment programming, but with each successive effort, Fletcher finds a way to outdo himself and allow Nikki Beach to shine even brighter.

oh Samui is a jewel of an island dotting Thailand. Despite being only a 45-minute flight from bustling Bangkok, Koh Samui is truly paradise. very summer, celebrities, models and moguls pull up by private jet or mega yacht for a champagne-soaked sojourn, marked by star-studded events and beach club hopping. Put on the map by Bridgette Bardot back in the 1960s, this small village is one of the most exclusive places in the world, symbolized by the maritime action in the harbor, designer shops in town, luxury hotels and elegant air of its visitors and residents. Through Café Nikki, we met a Miami nightclub entrepreneur named Eric Omores, who was born in Senegal and raised in Paris. Eric became not only our partner in the French locations, but a very dear family friend. Through Eric and another great friend, Carole Hourdin, we were able to find a beach restaurant that was family owned and operated, and for sale! The restaurant was called Cachalot and it was a unique piece of land located in Pampelonne Beach in Saint Tropez. Even though it was not located right on the beach, we could purchase the land, which was very important to Jack. Most of the beach clubs in Saint Tropez, with the exception of Club 55 and a few others, are beach concessions. Jack did not want to put Nikki Beach in the vulnerable position of not being able to get the concession renewed year after year. When Jack first scouted out this property in the winter of 2000, believe it or not, it was snowing. Yes, snowing in Saint Tropez! Jack thought it was a good omen, a sign of good luck. The property is first line off the beach and the locals started a bet that this American company was not going to make it. How can you have a beach club that’s not right on the beach? We were the talk of the town. At the beginning, there was a lot of resistance, of course. They gave Nikki Beach one year. When we came to Saint Tropez to open Nikki Beach in 2001, the beach club scene was not what it is today. The beach clubs had rusted umbrellas and old lounge chairs, which they had to spruce up to compete with the new American beach club coming. We invested $1 million just into the furniture and uniforms. Jack spent a lot of time walking the property and feeling its flow. NIKKI Style

SAINT TROPEZ • looking back Every detail was calculated. He centered the energy around the pool, created the dining area under a canopy of beautiful old trees, took out the parking lot and filled it up with sand and palm trees to create an area for sunbeds with its own beach bar and built a trellis with ivy vines at the entrance to give a natural, organic feel to Nikki Beach. He worked with local nurseries to create special beach gardens respecting the existing endangered species. Construction took one full year. Interestingly, a few years later, the French newspapers were talking about how Nikki Beach saved Saint Tropez. Competition is always good. It keeps you on your toes and this is exactly what Nikki Beach did for the other beach clubs in Saint Tropez. Today, there are so many amazing local and international restaurants to choose from. We opened Nikki Beach Saint Tropez in the summer of 2002 with a special birthday party for Naomi Campbell and her VIP, celebrity guests. Naomi is a good friend of Eric Omores, and she told him that she wanted everything white; from the décor to having everybody dressed in white. Everybody complied and, that night, the feeling was as if we were in heaven. Gorgeous people and a beautiful space. Jack and I loved the look so much that, at this moment, the decision to hold Nikki Beach’s White Party celebrations was born.

Funny story, though. After Naomi decided the dress code was strictly white, the weather turned very cold. As you can imagine, nobody brings jackets or coats to Saint Tropez for the summer. And to make matters more difficult, it had to be white. I went shopping in the village and, after hours, I finally landed on a white leather jacket in a small shop off the main street. Every store was sold out of total white clothing, which was another big topic of conversation amongst the locals. Throughout the summer of 2002, we had so many exciting moments, including guests like Bono and Prince Albert of Monaco. In the following years, we’ve welcomed Bruce Willis, Alicia Keys, Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones, Denzel Washington, Leonardo DiCaprio, Roberto Cavalli and Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber. Since that opening season in Saint Tropez, we have been perfecting our brand. As we grow, we get to know ourselves and our customers better.

recognized
that
a

Through our success in Saint Tropez, we built a great reputation in the Mediterranean, which inspired us to give our customers more of what they wanted. The same year, we opened Nikki Beach in Saint Barth, and Marbella the following year. As

and flourished, we continue to make many improvements. Every year, we do something new. We take in investing some of our profits back into

the business as a thank you to our customers. Throughout the years, we have improved our

seating areas with covered structures, lush trees, canopies and fans to alleviate the summer heat. Last year, we added inside dining and made major renovations to the pool area. This year, we are expanding our dining closer to the beach with a lounge area and a super-cool, beautiful silver food trailer for take-out for beach goers. We constantly strive to improve the quality of everything we offer and do. Many
things
have
evolved
and
changed
throughout the years. Great friends have come and gone. Eric Omores, who started Nikki Beach along with us in Miami Beach, decided to part ways. Even though we are sad about his decision, we are happy for our friend. Eric is pursuing what he loves, which is music and his family, Angelique and Amani. Eric is building a music studio in Monaco where his family resides. However, we cannot close this chapter of Nikki Beach because there is a possibility that Eric might return to do some new projects with us. Nikki Beach Saint Tropez is very close to our hearts. Jack and I have not missed one season there. Each year, we spend the month of July in Saint Tropez. We have so many great memories from these last 15 seasons, and have made so many wonderful friends. I remember bringing our twins, Isabella and Jake, when they were five months old and having them on their little swings sitting with us having lunch. Now, they are teenagers ordering their own food! This is a photo embedded in my mind.

arbella is the ritziest resort of the Costa del Sol, as well as a magnet for golf aficionados. What was once a quiet Andalusian town of orange groves is now a must-stop on the jet set circuit. Don’t miss Puerto Banús, Spain’s version of Saint Tropez with its mega yachts, swanky shops, pricey real estate developments and gourmet dining at every turn. Another highlight of Marbella is its natural beaches, and watersports ranging from windsurfing to snorkeling. Golf is probably one of Marbella’s best diversions, and the city boasts the most golf courses per linear kilometer. In fact, Marbella has earned the nickname “Costa del Golf.” For a dose of culture, Malaga is only 45 minutes away. Here you’ll find the birthplace of Pablo Picasso and a museum devoted to his artwork. While nearly every possible type of cuisine is available in Marbella, one of the local specialties is the seafood-laden paella. Chiringuitos (seafront bars) line the promenade and are popular by day. However, the town really comes alive after dark, and bars, pubs and clubs are open all night. Because of this mix of surf, sand and sports, Marbella attracts all types of visitors, from hedonists looking for fun to those who want to improve their golf game.

It’s about raising the spirits with stylish cocktails and using the best quality ingredients. It’s like art; you know a tropical-style drink when you see it. We’re adding a twist to the “Tiki” style, designed to evoke a South Pacific/Caribbean fantasy.
WHAT ARE THE BIGGEST TRENDS IN MIXOLOGY? At Nikki Beach, we invented a Mixology Trolley so that our guests can experiment with the art of making drinks right at their table. Our “Stylist Mixologist” will create large bowls and jugs of Sangria, Mojitos and Daiquiris for the table. It’s almost a ritual. It’s certainly a unique way of mixing drinks.
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE INGREDIENTS TO WORK WITH? I love to integrate citrus and exotic fruits into cocktails. It’s a nice surprise. In the cold, damp gray of winter, I imagine trucks rumbling to and from, across tropical islands. Tropical flavors can brighten up your day wherever you are. I particularly like Tahitian limes and Amazonian maracuya pulp.
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE SIGNATURE DRINKS OF NIKKI BEACH? Our World Famous Nikki Beach Mojito is without doubt the most in-demand drink at all of the Nikki Beach locations. We’ve sold over 1 million Mojitos around the world! This extraordinary cocktail was invented in Havana, Cuba. One of the many theories of the name Mojito is that it is a derivative of mojadito (Spanish for “a little wet”) or simply the diminutive of mojado (“wet”). The Mojito is rumored to have been the favorite drink

Nikki Beach has been mixing the Mojito the traditional way, but with a twist, since 1998. The sourness of fresh lime mixed with the freshest mint is balanced with the sweetness of the sugar cane and citrusy rum kick. It’s one of the most refreshing cocktails ever invented.
WHAT TYPES OF COCKTAILS ARE BEST FOR SUMMER? Hands down, my favorite summer cocktail is Spanish Sangria, especially when we are out grilling, hanging by the pool or having a picnic in the park. A chilled glass of Sangria is Spain’s most famous and popular cocktail. It’s a sweet, wine-based, punchlike beverage seasoned with fresh fruit. Indeed, the island is notorious for being the party capital of the world and for having a happening beach scene. Ibiza also boasts a natural wonderland, a bountiful countryside dotted with groves of almonds, olives and figs. And when named a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it wasn’t the night-until-dawn club scene that put the island on the list, but rather its biodiversity and culture. However, most visitors are sleeping during daylight hours, after dancing all night to marathon sets by Tiesto, David Guetta and Calvin Harris. In Saint Barth, my favorite time of the year is the Christmas/NYE week. All of the beautiful party people from around the world come to Saint Barth for this annual party rendezvous. During this 10 days, Saint Barth is the place to be.

HOW HAS TECHNOLOGY CHANGED DJING FOR YOU? I love the new tools. Technology is the best thing that happened to DJs. You can do so many tricks that you can’t do with vinyl. You can carry a huge amount of songs in one USB stick. It is really important when you have to adapt yourself to new customers every day.
DO YOU MISS RECORDS? Not at all. They are too heavy to carry and you can lose them when flying from destination to destination. I enjoy listening to my records when I’m at home.
WHAT’S THE KEY TO CREATING THE PERFECT VIBE AT NIKKI BEACH? Make the girls dance!
HOW DOES THE DAY EVOLVE AT NIKKI BEACH, FROM THE MUSIC? In Saint Tropez, we start the day with chill out music, which is good to welcome our guests. Then we build it up during lunch, testing how our guests react to the music. If they want to party, we make them party. If we feel that they are more in a relaxed mood, we play deep house music. At 5 pm, the energy is high and everyone is ready to party with the main house music anthems of the summer. I never program music in advance; I always follow my feelings.

HOW DO YOU STAY CURRENT WITH THE MUSIC SCENE? For a DJ, it’s part of the job to find new music. Thousands of songs are released every week. Back in the day, I used to go to the record store on a weekly basis. Now, you find the tracks on websites like Traxsource, Juno or DJ City, for example.
THERE SEEMS TO BE A BACKLASH AGAINST EDM MUSIC. WHAT ARE THE BIG TRENDS IN MUSIC NOW? For the past two years at Nikki Beach, we have returned to the real, proper house music, which fits much better than EDM for our beach clubs.
HOW DID YOU BECOME A DJ? When I was 12, I told my parents that I wanted to be a DJ. They were in the club business at that time. I started DJing seriously at 15, learning from the great DJs from my town, and I signed my first contract at 18. This year will be 26 years that I do it professionally.
DID YOU EVER IMAGINE HOW BIG NIKKI BEACH WOULD GROW? After the openings of Saint Tropez and Saint Barth, I knew that the brand was on the way to being a big success.

Our restaurants stretch from Miami Beach to Marbella and from Saint Barth to Dubai. Some dishes may seem familiar whichever destination you visit: You will see a Salad Niçoise, Nikki Beach Salad and Chicken Satay on all of our

Since all of our Nikki Beach locations are situated by the sea, we are lucky to have a bounty of local seafood at our disposal, including blue lobster, king prawns, swordfish, octopus, squid, turbot and sea bass. Spaghetti Fruit de Mer
In 2017, we will be emphasizing more of this farm-to-table philosophy. In Dubai, for example, we have partnered with a local organic farm that grows fresh produce, and to the standards Nikki Beach is known for. It’s a family-run farm called Green Heart Farm. They cultivate organic herbs, tomatoes, baby spinach, peppers, beetroot, carrots and so much more. Globally, we will also be allocating space at each Nikki Beach location for an organic garden for our restaurants.
Here are four dishes we are highlighting in 2017: Mediterranean Quinoa Salad with Grilled Tiger Prawn Our Mediterranean Quinoa Salad with Grilled Tiger Prawn is a new dish this year. It is composed of mixed quinoa, red peppers, vine tomatoes, cucumber, black olives, red onion and feta cheese, and dressed with extra virgin olive oil and fresh lemon juice. The flavor profile is earthy, textured and savory. Sexy Salad One of Nikki Beach’s signature dishes is the Sexy Salad. It’s a luscious mix of lobster, shrimp, crab meat, kanikama, romaine lettuce, avocado, mango, cucumber and tobiko mixed with spicy lime aioli sauce. This is our most popular salad across the world, and each bite is heavenly. Spaghetti Fruit de Mer Tasting of the sea, our Spaghetti Fruit de Mer is tossed with fresh mussels, clams, shrimp, sliced garlic, cherry tomatoes, hint of chili and extra virgin olive oil. It’s spicy, briny and toothsome. Miso Soup with Foie Gras and Truffles Sometimes you need to delight the palate with a touch of decadence. NIKKI BEACH CANNES 2016 For 14 years, Nikki Beach has held court at the Cannes International Film Festival, hosting premiere parties, industry events, charity galas and press junkets. This year’s exclusive pop-up at the InterContinental Carlton Hotel was our best ever! Just steps away from the Boulevard de la Croisette, Nikki Beach hosted a luncheon for the cast of Woody Allen’s newest film, Café Society, attended by the famous director, Blake Lively, Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart and Corey Stoll. For the after-party of Captain Fantastic cast members Daniel Brühl, Viggo Mortensen, Annalise Basso, George Mackay and Samantha Isler were joined by Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom, elevating the celebration. Nikki Beach also welcomed the industry elite at the annual Variety Cocktail party, including Amazon’s Roy Price and Tom Bernard, Co-President and Co-Founder of Sony Pictures Classics. And the special tribute to Robert De Niro, following the screening of Hands of Stone, was attended by A-listers like Usher, Chris Pine, Édgar Ramírez, Ana de Armas, Mads Mikkelsen, Harvey Weinstein, Lorenzo Soria and Thierry Frémaux. In addition to these events, our pop-up was open daily for lunch until late. This property has worked with organizations such as Easter Seals of South Florida, The Mourning Family Foundation’s Honey Shine and Susan B. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. In Europe, Nikki Beach Marbella supports groups like Ser Humano and PIVESPORT, while our Saint Tropez location assists their local Rotary Club. This year, however, we would like to salute the team at Nikki Beach Koh Samui for their philanthropic endeavors in Thailand. Nikki Beach Koh Samui primarily raises funds for the Thai Red Cross Society, with proceeds going to Cancer Research. Recently, the Nikki Beach staff in Koh Samui participated in a 5K charity run, organized by The Four Seasons Hotel. This event generated an amazing THB 1,104,166.42 (about $31,867) for the Thai Red Cross Society. Nikki Beach Koh Samui also helps to protect the local environment in an ongoing project called “Check Dam,” whereby their managers and staff ride into the mountainsides of Koh Samui to construct small dams from rocks and concrete for water conservation. Engineers have determined that over 15,000 of these dams are required up in the hills. About 1,000 have been finished so far. Without these “check dams” the rainwater does not get saved for vegetation and drinking use, but runs straight down to the sea. This project makes for a rewarding day and experience, as the team rides up to the highest points of Samui in 4X4 trucks, completes the charity work and then enjoys lunch together before returning to Nikki Beach. Last May, the Nikki Beach team headed into the hilltop areas of Koh Samui KOH SAMUI TEAM WORKING ON “CHECK DAM”
