When summer rolls around, the designers picture us all at the seaside: at an elegant marina, in a sophisticated city like Portofino or right at South Beach, Miami. The floral prints and scattered floral patterns remain, but come in fresh summery colors. As an alternative to the floral designs, there are a lot of foliage patterns: palm leaves and jungle prints. Fauna also joins the flora this summer: animal motifs such as flamingos or parrots as well as animal prints of lions, tigers, zebras and snakes. Add to that all kinds of stripes, checks, checks and even more checks, and last but not least polka dots and micro-dots, checkerboard patterns and comic book prints. No woman needs this many patterns, unless she wants to have fun combining them all. And that’s exactly one of the biggest trends for Summer 2019: skillfully combining different prints and colors. The colors: 1980s ‘Miami nice’ – strong beachfront colors, such as bright yellow, orange, traffic-light red, grass green, turquoise, fuchsia, baby blue – for womenswear and menswear. As an alternative, there are delicate new sorbet tones for women: pink, yellow, and light blue, as well as a whole range of sand and beige tones including tobacco and new khaki shades. Almost all the womenswear designers listed the following as the season’s hot trend color: pink! Summer pinks! Athleisure wear with drawstrings, side stripes, and zippers is still very in. New summer parkas replace blousons. For men, the silhouette gets a more relaxed look. The new pants styles have a subtle width and also come with pleats. The focus is also on the colors and prints. For menswear, in addition to the above-mentioned patterns on T-shirts and shirts, the emphasis is on stripes and checks. An alternative to the strong beachfront colors: summer grays and navy. Beige comes in the form of new trench coats. For women and men, the clunky sneaker models remain: the dad sneaker (‘the ugly sneaker’) is worn with absolutely everything. With all these choices, individual styling is the key to a great Summer 2019 look.

Waists are hot! In dresses, real and faux wraps as well as belts put the accent on the waist. The shoulders are very soft and come in dropped styles with cutout accents or fully exposed shoulders.

Don’t be afraid of color! We like to call them ‘Miami nice’: Vibrant 1980s pop colors set the tone for the coming summer. If you don’t like bright colors, the new summer sorbets offer an alternative. Also on the rise are new sand and beige tones that are combined with tobacco and khaki.

There’s no getting around patterns. The more the merrier! And all mixed up. Floral themes remain strong and are enhanced with jungle prints such as palm leaves. There are also graphic themes such as stripes, checks, dots, animal and comic book prints. Large repeating patterns are combined with small repeating patterns.

A new desire to get dressed up! A genuine, new alternative to the mix-and-match silhouette, it gets its dynamics from the contrasts. The new pantsuit must still be feminine.

Side stripes, drawstrings, zippers, sporty blouson jackets with striped cuffs, hoodies, jerseys made from technical fabrics – athleisure remains strong. In Summer 2019, athleisure gets a feminine look and is reinterpreted with floral patterns.

For the coming summer, pants are a big hit. They replace the skirt as the favorite piece in the new silhouette. Pants with a high waist or paper-bag waist are popular – tied at the waist and with wide legs. With a variety of pant lengths, there are many options – especially when it comes to shorter pants.

BLOUSES

Blouses continue to be in, especially with pants. New blouse styles with attached scarves, ruffles, flounces, see-through inserts, sporty elements as well as patterns and colors mean that there’s a big selection. The focal point: the shirt blouse – slim, oversized or as a long blouse, also in white.

A must-have for Summer 2019 is the shirt dress. Softly flowing A-line dresses are also popular, often with arms. Wrap styles and belts put the emphasis on the waist.

For women, wide cuts offer an alternative to skinny jeans and even come in colors. But skinny jeans continue to be very strong in the denim area. For men, the silhouette remains narrow.

1980s ‘Miami nice’ beachfront colors – full steam ahead for the summer! Cool grays are combined with navy, beige and bordeaux for the summer in the city – or enjoy natural shades from light sand to khaki, which look great on linen fabrics.

Patterns galore! Stripes and checks, microprints, jungle prints, and pop art: Patterns set the tone. It’s obviously a lot more challenging to do a lot of crazy pattern mixing in menswear than in womenswear. But if it’s done right, you get a really new look!

The relaxed silhouette gives the suit – often as a broken suit – a new sovereignty and masculinity. Stripes, checks and newly interpreted glen checks also set the tone here.

SHIRTS

For Summer 2019, the shirt clearly plays the leading role in menswear: all-over floral prints, jungle-inspired prints, stripes, checks, comic book patterns inspired by Roy Lichtenstein, etc. Prints are a MUST! If you really want to go for it, try a Hawaiian shirt.
