THE LIST THE PUBLISHER NiteGuide took over the Palms Casino in Las Vegas, storming nightclubs and creating a general ruckus. We had a great time during the photo shoots, making sure to explore Ghost Bar Day Club, Rain and Moon. Vegas is always a good time, but the takeover was definitely a weekend to remember. NiteGuide will be celebrating it’s two year anniversary this month, and we look forward to marking the occasion at multiple venues throughout Southern California. We’ll be hitting Playhouse in Los Angeles, Ten Nightclub in Newport Beach, and HardRock in San Diego. Over the next year we will extend our reach across the West Coast and Las Vegas, furthering our growth and expansion. We will incorporate more music, highlight top venues, and continue to feature the best in food and dining. After two great years with the magazine, I genuinely look forward to what year three holds in store. Justin Stearman Publisher

THE CREATIVE DIRECTOR February is a month full of Valentine inspiration, and this issue is no exception. We have articles on dating and even a little something for those who are anti-cupid. We also have information on natural aphrodisiacs, and a list of Valentine gift ideas for those still in the hunt. In December NiteGuide made the journey to Sin City for our Palms Model Takeover. I’d like to thank all of our models and the NiteGuide team for traveling to Las Vegas for the event. It was a whirlwind weekend full of fun, and we’ve got the photos in this issue to prove it. Congratulations to all of our participants and our cover girl Mila Corsunova, we can’t wait to head back and do it all over again!

Valentine’s Day Deconstructed
By Maxfield
T
here is something inherently wrong with Valentines Day. Like all holidays, its original intentions were good. A day set aside for lovers to celebrate their relationships, to step out of their normal schedule to remember why it is they love that special someone. What was created with positive purpose in mind has been completely distorted and corrupted into its current stressful and often artificial form.
THE BEGINNING
THE DISTRAUGHT
THE DISILLUSIONED
From an early age, we are coerced to misunderstand the basis of Valentine’s day. On February 14th millions of kids go to school carrying backpacks filled with miscommunication and false promises. They are told to bring one valentine for each kid in the class, professing their deep and passionate love for one another.
There are two main parties of people who hate Valentine’s Day and it is no surprise that their views come from emotional instability and repressed childhood memories. Those who despise this holiday are often caught up with the absence of a partner on this depressing day. Women don’t look forward to slugging back a bottle of wine on the couch and digging through a box of the darkest Godiva, but it happens. Their allegedly more sought after girlfriends enjoy a romantic dinner and passionate night of sex, while the Godiva-lover watches re-runs of Sex and The City. This category of men are no better. A man’s inappropriately intoxicated antics on the 14th could be explained in a similar fashion. What begins as drunk banter on the necessity of their independence quickly spirals into a tear filled rant of their deeply rooted loneliness. Yikes.
On the opposite side of the spectrum resides their hard shelled counterparts. For many, hatred for cupid exists in the unlucky people who do have a Valentine. Chocolate, flowers, jewelry, and dinner all have a ridiculous price tag. Motivated by the mind resting between their legs, the sexually motivated aim to please. Then there’s the fear of a disappointed partner, forcing the non-Valentine believer to conform to the expensive cards, candy and date night. This partner sees the apparent danger that resides in a tradition based in their material involvement. They are well aware that what they perceive as meaningless gifts can quickly snowball into misleading messages of commitment.
Clearly, St. Valentine was an emotion ridden communist. His views called for formality in the world of love. Like most communist systems, a dictator often emerges to disrupt intended equality. In a storm of mixed messages and pedophiliac tendencies, every 3rd grade teacher’s desk is quickly cluttered with various professions of love and intimate notes from their wildly underage students. It’s here that our convoluted understanding of the holiday begins, which carries into our notions of Valentines Day as adults.

If you don’t exist in one of these categories, chances are you enjoy inedible mini heart candies with inane expressions of love. In reality, you are probably better off without a Valentine.

LIBIDO
Natural Aphrodisiac Alternatives
LIFTERS By Heidi Darby
Chocolate has been associated with passion for centuries, dating back to when the Aztecs recorded a link between the cocoa bean and sexual desire. Two chemicals are attributed to chocolate bringing out the frisky side: tryptophan, which is a building block of serotonin, and phenylethylamine, a stimulant related to amphetamines. Both chemicals are associated with arousal and falling in love.
Chocolate Martini 1 1/2 oz Godiva chocolate liqueur 1 1/2 oz creme de cacao 1/2 oz vodka 1 1/2 oz half-and-half Mix ingredients with ice and shake well. Dip the rim of chilled martini glass into a bed of water (a wet towel or napkin), then in layer of cocoa powder. Strain mixture into martini glass, and serve.
Cherry Chocolate Kiss 1 oz chocolate vodka 1 oz cherry vodka 1/2 oz creme de cacao 1 oz half and half 1/2 oz grenadine
Outside of the obvious (the banana is reminiscent of a particular male organ) the banana is loaded with potassium and B vitamins, which are vital to the production of sex hormones. The yellow fruit also contains chelating minerals and the bromeliad enzyme, which increase male libido.
Banana Hammock 1/3 oz blue curacao 1/3 oz Jagermeister 1/2 oz banana liqueur 1/3 oz Ouzo 1/2 oz gold rum 2 maraschino cherries Add all liquids EXCEPT blue curacao to mixing tin with ice. Shake well and strain into chilled martini glass. Slowly add blue curacao. Carefully add cherries.
Banana Daiquiri
Chocolate syrup Maraschino cherry 1 chocolate kiss candy
1 1/2 oz light rum 1/2 oz triple sec 1 banana 1 oz fresh lime juice 1 teaspoon sugar 1 cup crushed ice Fresh, washed strawberries
Combine vodkas, creme de cacao, grenadine and half and half in mixing tin with ice. Shake vigorously. Take chilled martini glass and apply a light swirl of chocolate syrup around inside of glass. Strain mixture into glass and garnish with chocolate kiss and cherry.
Pour ingredients into a blender. Blend on low for a moment, then on high until smooth. Pour mixture into highball glass or champagne flute. Carefully slice strawberry halfway up toward the leaf, and slide onto rim of glass.
Pair chocolate drinks with strawberries, the symbol of the goddess of love, Venus. Romans credited the heart shaped fruit to increasing sexual appetite.
Pair banana drinks with almonds, known as a symbol of fertility and historically credited to arousing passion in females.

Champagne is one of the world’s most potent natural aphrodisiacs. The bubbles in this elegant drink hit the bloodstream faster than wine, and with over 49,000,000 bubbles in every bottle... We’ll leave the math up to you. In addition to being associated with glamour and grace, aromas in certain champagnes mimic the scent of female pheromones.
Champagne and berry cocktail 1 strawberry 2 raspberries 2 blackberries or blue berries 1/2 oz simple syrup (1 oz warm water mixed with six teaspoons sugar) Splash of vanilla flavored vodka 1/3 cup champagne Muddle the raspberries and blackberries in a large glass. Add the simple syrup and vanilla vodka. Stir vigorously and pour into chilled glass. Top with champagne.
Cupid’s Kiss 2 tbsp balsamic fruit syrup 10 oz Brut Champagne or sparkling wine 1. Add 1 tbsp fruit syrup to a Champagne flute, top with the Champagne or sparkling wine. 2. Drain and repeat. For the balsamic fruit syrup: 1/2 c thawed frozen raspberries 1/2 c thawed frozen strawberries 3-4 tbsp granulated sugar 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar 1. Marinate fruit and 3 tbsp sugar in the balsamic for 30 minutes -1 hour. 2. Taste mixture, and if it is not sweet enough, stir in additional sugar 1 tsp at a time, up to 3 tsp, allowing fruit to marinate for an additional 10 minutes. 2. Strain to remove seeds, pressing fruit against the strainer to release all the juice. Store juice in the refrigerator until serving. (The macerated fruit remaining in the strainer can be saved in a separate container to serve over ice cream.) Taken from The Love Diet by Juan-Carlos & Amy Reiley Pair champagne drinks with stuffed figs. The erotic appearance of the fig appealed to various historical figures including Cleopatra, and are associated with fertility in many cultures.
focus on the food! Asparagus Asparagus is high in folic acid, which is credited to boosting histamine production and necessary for the ability to reach orgasm in both sexes.
Avocado This fruit is referred to by the Aztecs as ahuacuatl (testicle tree) due to it’s resemblance to testicles. Rich in folic acid, B6, and potassium, it benefits orgasms as well.
Basil With an enticing aroma, basil has a history steeped in romance. Italians believed in it’s aphrodisiac effect due to the sweet and stimulating scent. Science has yet to comply.
Buttermilk Buttermilk is less about nutrition, and more about texture. A favorite of Cleopatra’s, a buttermilk bath or shower (albeit messy) is recorded as being extremely arousing.
Honey Honey contains the boron (a naturally occurring element) used in estrogen production, which is important to female libido. It’s also rich in B vitamins, and supports testosterone production for men.
Oysters One of the more widely known aphrodisiacs in history, oysters, scallops and mussels contain compounds that are effective in releasing hormones such as testosterone and estrogen.
Pumpkin Seeds A great snack that’s high in omega-3 fatty acids which clean out arteries and capillaries, making blood flow-to all regions-easier. They’re also high in zinc, which is known to increase fertility and sex drive.

Science of Kissing
WE ALL DO IT. Some more than others. By Heidi Darby
Kissing is a human function that builds self-esteem, lowers cholesterol, and is an arguable form of exercise. The next time a romantic moment finds you laying your lips against another’s, proceed knowing that kissing is good for you.
What’s in a kiss?
What your partner feels:
The scientific word for kissing is osculation, but who needs a fancy word for locking lips?
Kissing can relieve a great deal of anxiety, and bring on a euphoric feeling. Cortisol (stress) levels lower in men and women after kissing. Parallels are also drawn between kissing and meditation, producing many of the same physiological changes that meditation creates. The endorphins produced by kissing are 200 times more powerful than morphine, reducing worry and increasing oxytocin levels in men.
Lips are full of extremely sensitive nerve endings (on par with other regions associated with making out) and send a wave of signals and information to the brain. Kissing also releases natural antibiotics that are secreted through saliva, and contain a type of anesthetic that aids in pain relief. The earliest recording of humans kissing dates back to Sanskrit texts, which means people have been doing the tongue tango for at least 3,500 years.
Kissing burns calories? Let’s exercise. Possibly the most underrated form of exercise, kissing can burn up to two calories a minute. Professor Bryant Stamford of the University of Louisville believes that a deep passionate kiss may double your basic metabolic rate, and burn the afore mentioned two calories per minute. Kissing also uses 30 facial muscles, keeping them tight and leaving frequent kissers with smooth, taut faces. Making out creates youthful faces, helps burn calories and could potentially lead to even more strenuous exercise. Dim the lights, and proceed without caution.
the facts -The field of kissing-science is known as philematology. -The scientific word for kissing is osculation. -Bonobos (Apes) are the only other known species to engage in “french kissing.” -Kissing stabilizes cardiovascular activity. -People who kiss their partner goodbye in the morning live five years longer than those who don’t.

What Not to Say on a First Date... Entertaining Advice for Men By Kimberly Fisher

The Palms resident DJ and rising Grammy-nominated producer Clinton Sparks was on the decks spinning a high-energy set and radiating positive vibes. The ladies danced and sang to the music as our photographers captured candid moments and tons of excitement. The night ended with individual shots of each model on a balcony overlooking the club- glamour and exclusivity at its finest. The next morning, our bombshells were once again primped and curled to prepare for the second shoot that awaited them that afternoon at Ghostbar Day Club. The day in itself was a whirlwind to say the least, complete with circus costumes, confetti, stilt walkers, a giant gingerbread man, and even a little bit of rain. This venue is definitely the current gem of Las Vegas, incredibly unique and nothing but pure energy through the day from start to finish. Our models had a wide range of group and individual shots with outfit changes in every color of the rainbow. Ghostbar’s outside balcony provided the most breathtaking shots of the day, pairing the beauty of the models with an unbeatable view of the strip.
The weekend ended with a wrap party at Moon, appropriatelynamed for its retracting roof and the best view of the stars in town. NiteGuide was lucky enough to be entertained once again by Clinton Sparks as our models danced the night away and reminisced about their weekend. Congratulations to our lovely winner, Mila Corsunova, who also received a cash prize of $1,000 in addition to our February cover. We would like to thank all of the ladies for participating and for the pleasure of their company in our NiteGuide Takeover event! “Even when it came time to do the album and we’d been playing shows for awhile, we said the one thing we wanted to keep consistent was how we made the EP together, which was just as friends and just for fun.” Ryan Rabin
T
he story of how a band comes together generally begins through similar paths, forming in high school or college, or seeking out members through newspaper ads - and more recently via social media. With an unending list of bands who united under these terms, Grouplove’s story begins under slightly different circumstances. They formed on the Greek island of Crete.
we had done seven or eight songs and then everybody went back home again. Maybe a month or so later, everybody just decided to move to LA and make a run of it as a band,” Rabin said. “Whatever we did in the studio felt right. That was it. Everybody sold their stuff and moved out to LA. We managed to get Sean (Gadd, bass) who was from London a Visa. That was about a year ago.”
“We were ending whatever music we were all doing back where we were from,” Ryan Rabin, drummer, said. “I had a previous band in LA, Christian (Zucconi, vocals, guitar) had a band in New York that was sort of coming to an end. Hannah (Hooper, keyboard, vocals) actually had never been in a band before.”
The groups whirlwind success received a jumpstart in the UK, where their first single “Colours” off their album Never Trust A Happy Song received heavy airplay and positive press. The indie darlings went on to score a slot on the prestigious Glastonbury festival lineup, among other European fests. With their single “Tongue Tied” breaking onto radio stations internationally, the groups chipper brand of indie rock continues to attract attention. Grouplove played US festivals Lollapalooza and Outside Lands, but after hearing of a slot on this years Coachella lineup, Rabin felt particularly proud.
Rabin and and guitarist Andrew Wessen had grown up together in Los Angeles, but it was Wessen’s brother who tempted the scattered group of musicians to join an artist residency on Crete. They picked up and left whatever they were focused on -from LA, to New York, to London- and took a chance on an experimental artist retreat in Greece. They formed an immediate friendship with one another, and the five stayed in touch after leaving the residency. Once back in their respective hometowns, Rabin invited his newfound friends to Los Angeles, and inspired by their impromptu jam sessions on Crete, laid down a few tracks in his home studio. “We just sort of started playing and recorded for fun, and after a few weeks 34 niteguidemag.com
“It was a little bit of a bucket list thing. Even though we’d played all these great festivals-not that we’d taken it for granted or anything- but because you grow up going to Coachella like Andrew and I did, it’s something you always want to do as a musician... To have that happen this year is really amazing.” Keep up with Grouplove at www.grouplovemusic.com

Movers and shakers Featured MIXOLOGIST Matthew Myers By Heidi Darby Matthew Myers - head mixologist for The Bellagio in Las Vegas - hasn’t always had his fingers around a bottle. Following his time in the military, the New York native earned two degrees in the culinary field and worked at Michael Mina in San Francisco, helping the highly regarded restaurant earn two Michelin stars. NiteGuide caught up with the libation expert to find out how his path crossed into mixology. NGM: After working for so many prestigious restaurants, what lead you to become a Mixologist? Mathew Myers: I have always had a love for being creative. I got my start in mixology at Michael Mina in San Francisco... He and a few other mixologists really introduced me to that whole world. It took awhile before I was titled “mixologist.” My VP of Food and Beverage Ana Marie Mormando asked me to come and be the mixologist for Bellagio and I couldn’t say no.
Featured Promoter Media Contender By Heidi Darby
Danny United started his company Media Contender in 2007 and then partnered up with longtime friends Clancy Silver and Jeff Tovar. They began pipelining content for bass-heavy music lovers across Southern California and beyond. In the first month of the new year they have hosted artists including Benga, Katy B, DJ Craze, Gaslamp Killer, Skrillex, Danny Brown, Caspa, and 12th Planet. Now gearing up for a big tour, Danny shared where his events reach, and why Media Contender continues to achieve success. NGM: What music do you primarily focus on? Danny United: We started off with a heavy focus on bass music. We are fascinated by low end frequencies whether its broken beat or 4 to the floor. Last year I partnered with Franki Chan and brought back his Check Yo Ponytail parties which combined the band world with the DJ world. 36 niteguidemag.com niteguidemag.com 20
NGM: What is your favorite cocktail to make? MM: I enjoy a basic Gimlet made with fresh lime and using different herbs. This is an easy fall back recipe that if you pair the correct Gin with some farmers market Thai Basil or Lemon Thyme is just fantastic. The clean flavor of fresh herbs with well balanced acidity is something that everyone can appreciate.
a special moment for guests. That is a big part of what we do. Creating special moments for people is something that can’t be bought or sold. It also can never be taken away.
NGM: Can you share an out-of-the-ordinary story involving a customer? MM: Some of the most exciting people I’ve met was while working at Michael Mina in San Francisco. I was working as a captain and I took care of a large party that happened to be the comedians of a comedy tour. I talked with Patton Oswalt about the movie he was working on (Ratatouille), Brian Posehn and Zach Galifiankis (before The Hangover). They invited me to go out with them for drinks later. We all went to Lefty O’douls across the street and we all ran into Scott Ian (Anthrax). NGM: What’s your favorite part of about working with the public? MM: I enjoy seeing the response of people when they are happy... It makes me feel good about the work I do when I am part of creating
NGM: Tell us about your affiliation with Dubtroit? DU: Dubtroit is our monthly Orange County dubstep event recently transplanted to the newly renovated Observatory (formerly the Galaxy). It started out as a way to develop our following outside the LA market and quickly solidified itself as a mainstay event consistently drawing a healthy crowd of 400-500 people. NGM: What’s your favorite event to date, and why? DU: That is a very tough question, one not easily answered. I don’t have just one favorite event, but I will say that right now is the most exciting time of my life. Every event we do seems to bring something new and exciting, and strongly indicates a very fun future for everyone in the city of Los Angeles. NGM: Your website is geared toward music fans, very accessible and friendly. Is that your overall approach? DU: I would say so, with so much smoke and mirrors in this world, we took a clean and classic approach. Straight forward and right to the point. We like to let the music do the talking. That doesn’t mean we don’t appreciate aesthetics, I consider our designers the best in the game.
NGM: Your a national company, correct? What’s your farthest reaching event? DU: Yes, we do events all over the country. This year we’ll see our second Check Yo Ponytail national tour along with a new Check Yo Fest at SXSW and hopefully Miami, and then SMOG will be doing our massive parties outside of the major festivals across the country again like Electric Daisy Carnival, Coachella, Ultra, DEMF, SXSW, and Lollapalooza. NGM: What does your promotional company offer that others don’t? DU: More so than most, I think what makes our events different is our approach. It’s important to have a good mix of positive open minded people. We focus on the music first, then we focus on the overall experience. So details are important. People will find quality sound, lighting, visual presentation and over all vibes to be carefully considered, but booking the right talent is the most important aspect.

Featured DJ D. Seven
By Heidi Darby DJ D. Seven came from humble roots. Born in Guatamala and raised in the vibrant San Francisco Bay Area, he worked in his parents’ restaurant throughout his teen years and saved up money every week to travel to the nearest specialty record store in the city. Now backed by Global Sports and Entertainment brand Oakley, D. Seven is now the Head DJ and Corporate Director of Entertainment at the famous chain of Sharkeez Venues throughout Southern California. NGM: What’s your preference, vinyl or digital? D. Seven: I’m one of the few young artists that can proudly say that I started spinning on vinyl back when I was 15 years old – before all the computer programs began coming out, of course. Back then not every one and their mom could be a DJ, like it is now... But that said, you’re allowed to be so much more creative these days with the convenience of software and all the capabilities that come with it. NGM: Tell me about working with Oakley?
Featured GoGo Nina Medina

D. Seven: Oakley is my primary sponsor, and I’m so proud and excited to be a part of such a Global powerhouse brand. My manager, who has been my manager since the beginning of my DJ career’s progression in Southern California, is one of the Sports and Entertainment gurus over there. Being part of the Oakley family has been amazing. I have the opportunity to begin collaborating, playing, and working with some of Oakley’s big music artists – even in Ibiza.
were reserved for huge rock bands in the past, like Madison Square Garden. That tells you that EDM is officially mainstream.
NGM: What’s your favorite gig to date and why? D. Seven: I love playing at all Sharkeez venues – obviously. But one show that I won’t soon forget is the Palms Pool Party in Las Vegas last summer. One of those shows was on Electric Daisy Carnival weekend, so the EDM vibe was definitely in the air. We rocked that place hard – and I was raging so intensely myself while playing, that I barely even remember my actual set. NGM: How has Electronic Music grown over the past decade? D. Seven: The Ruby Skye venue in San Francisco was a huge influence on me way back when I was young. Now I see artists that were rocking it there back in the day selling out huge venues, within 10 minutes of being available that

hether you’re on your honeymoon or you’re young, single and ready for a good time, the beautiful islands of Hawaii are sure to impress by day. But when the picturesque views of sandy beaches, blue ocean and palm trees disappear into the night, that’s when the scene begins to sparkle in Honolulu. Beyond the beach bars and tourist spots, Honolulu offers a varied and vibrant nightlife scene comprised of modern nightclubs, late night eats, trendy sushi restaurants and many places to sip cocktails. Whether you spend your days snorkeling, hiking, or surfing, your nights in Honolulu will be packed with just as much adventure if you know where to find it. From the sandy beaches of Waikiki to the urban streets of Chinatown, the island of Oahu has earned its nickname as “The Gathering Place,” serving as the epicenter of nightlife in Hawaii.

Zanzabar
Beautified by Egyptian accents, jewel-tone colors, and enhanced by a bass pounding sound system, the environment at Zanzabar is one of the liveliest on Oahu. This nightclub caters to an upscale crowd, who turn out for the best in hiphop, trance, house, techno and top 40. There is a soundproof room where VIPs can enjoy specialized entertainment and a more relaxed setting. On certain nights, the club also offers comedy shows, salsa lessons, and many other events. Zanzabar is one of the best places in Honolulu to dance your vacation away.

It is located in tourist central in Waikiki, but for the best butterfish and assorted sushi on Oahu, locals and visitors alike flock to Doraku Sushi in Honolulu. January IN REVIEW: FEATURED EVENTS Dim Mak presents Felix CartAl Drais [Hollywood]
By Fred Dyoll | Photos Courtesy of Chris Velasco - Dim Mak Drais in Hollywood continually sets the tone for an amazing night out, and on Sunday January 8 Felix Cartal came into the exquisite club and threw down an amazing set. The Vancouver native was touring in support of his track “Don’t Turn Out The Lights” which features songstress Polina, taking part in the “Dim Mak Sunday’s” event. The theme of the lyrics were carried out during his performance, which left the crowd wanting more and dreading the moment the lights went out... or more accurately, came on. He was graceful under pressure - after all he’s opened for the likes of Justice and MSTRKRFT - allowing his layered sound to resonate throughout the swanky walls of Drais. The set was heavy on melodies, with the energetic crowd moving to Cartal’s out-of-the-box beats. The lights added an extra layer of ethereal ambiance, with girls dancing on the packed dance floor and on the platforms surrounding the DJ booth. Drinks were flowing from every bar in the house, and Cartal made sure everyone was having a great time.
Forever 21 birthday BASH Shark Club [Costa Mesa]
Fred Dyoll | Photos Courtesy of MyClubScene.com | Brian Brown On Friday January 27 Shark Club in Costa Mesa opened it’s doors to celebrate Cindy Jenkins’ Forever 21 birthday party - one the premier VIP hosts in OC - complete with a performance from special guest Hayla. Hayla draws musical inspiration from a multi-cultural background that’s reflected in her music stylings. Breaking onto the Billboard Dance Top 50 with her single “I’m Free” the songstress filled the venue with her unique sound. In addition to Hayla, beautiful belly dancers of the internationally booked “The Jewels That Raq” dance troupe added to the exotic atmosphere. Prior to these performances a fusion belly-dance-dinner gave attendees yet another layer of entertainment, complete with live snakes. To top the night off, the amazing Dragon Lion Dancers helped celebrate the Lunar New Year of the Dragon. Overall the night was full of unexpected twists and turns with everyone enjoying the drinks, entertainment, and music. Shark Club was the perfect venue for the birthday bash, where all of the partygoers celebrated together. www.haylaofficial.com www.BellyDancingShows.com

NERVO
Float [Hard Rock San Diego] Story & Photography by MyClubScene.com | J.Dixx Photography Wintervention at Hard Rock San Diego showcased the amazing NERVO twins on January 15. The two frosty blonde bombshells got the crowd pumping with their groovy DJ set that raged on for 3 hours. Their enthusiasm and sexy demeanor kept the winter wonderland club goers smiling and singing the words to all their songs, including the newly released “We’re All No One” featuring Afrojack and Steve Aoki. The crowd was filled with half naked, bikini wearing partiers who thoroughly enjoyed the show. The NERVO twins straight out of Australia have earned their world renowned credibility through modeling, then became song writers for artists including Katy Perry and eventually became DJs to entertain the world. With their Indie look and smiling faces they make every show a memorable one. They immersed themselves into the crowd at Hard Rock, sharing their bottles of Jack Daniels and Belvedere with those who made it into the front row. They truly love what they do and blow away any show, where their passion for music comes through in every performance.
Sander Van Doorn Sutra [Costa Mesa]
By Allison Imai | Photos Courtesy of Armando Cardenas On January 26, Dutch phenomenon Sander Van Doorn made his anticipated return to Costa Mesa hotspot Sutra. Steadily making his way through his Eleve11 World Tour, Sander came well-prepared for the eager crowd that awaited him. Opening his set with a massive, bass-heavy track from his new album, the producer slammed through his nearly two-hour set with arms raised and a contagious smile on his face from the moment the first beat dropped. Fans in the crowd sported shirts with his album name and proudly held their “We Love You Sander” signs high and shouted out the lyrics to every one of his hits. Be sure to check out NiteGuide Magazine’s exclusive interview with Sander in our March issue, where he gives readers his opinion as to what keeps his fans on the dance floor and the direction that electronic music is headed in the next year. Marquee 1 Year Anniversary Party
M
Story by Heidi Darby | Photos by BSK Photo for Marquee Nightclub & Dayclub
arquee Nightclub at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas celebrated its one-year anniversary on January 2 with a DJ set by breakout Grammy-Nominated artist Avicii. In the last year, Marquee has forged a path for electronic dance music in Sin City, bringing in elite DJs such as Axwell, Armin van Buuren, and Fatboy Slim. On top of booking DJs for one night and weekend events, they’ve also been bringing in artists including ATB, Kaskade, Benny Benassi, Red Foo and more for high-profile residencies. With all this talent, it’s no wonder the club wanted to celebrate their anniversary in style. A rainbow of laser lights filtered through the dance floor during a portion of Avicii’s hit-heavy set, where clubgoers relentlessly moved to the music. He played tracks such as “Calling” and his current single “Le7els.” The club was packed with partygoers and celebrities, where
Paris Hilton and Afrojack were spotted enjoying the festivities. A purple commemorative cake was presented to three of the nightclub’s partners, Noah Tepperberg, Jason Strauss, and Louis Albin. A joyous crowd joined in on the presentation, amidst multiple camera flashes and cocktails. After an amazing year Marquee has much to look forward to in 2012. The Marquee brand will be going overseas, making changes to their New York venue, and overhauling the Marquee Las Vegas Dayclub for summer of 2012. Expect to see some familiar faces on the DJ roster this year, as well an amazing list of new talent. Marquee has helped propel Las Vegas into the international EDM spotlight, where more and more music lovers are going for the ultimate dance music experience. The argument that Las Vegas is the new Ibiza rages on, and Marquee is making one hell of a case for Las Vegas.

NiteGuide Magazine’s January Issue Release Party By Fred Dyoll | Photography by MyClubScene.com | Martin Clara

iteGuide celebrated their January “Nightlife Revealed” issue release party at Ember in Anaheim on Saturday, January 28, where club goers came out in full force to party with the NiteGuide team. With the red carpet sponsored by Asahi Beer rolled out, camera flashes captured attendees as they walked into the Southern California venue. In spite of the traditional expectations of weather in January, the warm temperatures had all the girls in short dresses and fun skirts, enjoying the unseasonably warm evening. Also on hand was MyClubScene.com to help NiteGuide capture every moment. The issue featured a variety of industry insiders sharing what nightlife is like from a behind-the-scenes perspective, showcasing bar owners, performers, DJs and more.
Inside the club DJ Turbulence was celebrating as well, in honor of his “Party in The Mile Hight Club Part 3” release. The Los Angeles native got his first taste on the turntables at age thirteen, and the music man is now affiliated with Power 106 FM, S.K.A.M. Artist Management and Scratch Academy in LA. He kept bodies moving on the dance floor with his great mix of hip-hop, R&B, and house. Drinks were flowing all night long, with Asahi appearing on multiple tables and in the hands of many excited attendees. The VIP tables were cluttered with bottle service accessories, and jam-packed with people. A perfect night, celebrating a great issue on a great evening.

“Kinksters Need Love Too” Dear Kitty: I am a 32 year old man with a foot fetish, who is interested in dating and meeting women who are into having a man who loves to kiss, lick, smell, suck and *&?# her feet and toes. This fetish in not in any way dominant in the bedroom, I am just extremely aroused by women’s feet. I don’t want to go through life looking for a woman who says she’s cool with it, then flip-flops when I ask for a footjob. Any advice? -- Me and My Feet Dear “Me and My Feet”: Meeting new people and dating is always a challenge. It is difficult enough to find the right person to share your life with, someone who shares the same interests, hobbies, etc. But when you have some sort of “kink” or fetish, it adds a level of complication to finding a soul mate. Think about how many people are in your general area and then narrow it down to only people with whom you have common interests and could enjoy spending a great deal of time with. This is your general “dating pool”. Then, if you have anything that you strongly believe in, like religion or strong political views, then you have to narrow the pool down even more. Now, if you have some sort of fetish (and it can be any fetish, your foot fetish is actually very common) then you are narrowing down that pool even more. So, finding the perfect partner is not impossible, but it will take a little more fishing. You need to decide (or figure out) how important your kink is to you. Is this something that you enjoy, but could live without? Or is this a strong enough fetish that you would be unhappy in a relationship without it? For most people with a fetish, they find that they are unhappy in a relationship without it. They feel that there is always something “missing” that they cannot get from their partner. If you feel this way, then yes, you need to find someone that is either into it as well or someone who is openminded enough to allow you to indulge your fantasy somewhere else or with someone else. There are plenty of places to meet like-minded people. There are websites like www.fetlife.com that cater to all types of kinksters. Look for groups in your area where you can meet people at social gatherings. There you will be able to meet people who have similar interests and they will also know others who are into the same things as you. You can start to build a network of people who not only understand your fetish, but are into it as well or know other people that they can introduce you to. This will increase your chances of meeting that special someone. If you meet someone in the “regular” world, you don’t have to tell them right away about your fetish, but if things start to progress and get serious, you owe it to them to be honest. Sit down and explain it to them. And for those of you who are in a relationship with someone who has a fetish, be open-minded when they share it with you. It is very personal and scary to share with someone because they are afraid of being rejected. When someone you are dating shares a fetish with you, do not judge them. It took a lot of courage to share it with you and it means that they care enough about you to take that risk. Being open-minded does not mean that you have to participate in their fetish, but you should be open-minded enough to consider it without judgement.
