hile on a study abroad trip in Madrid Spain, co-founder Bryce Rademan was so inspired by the Döner Kebob, a Turkish cuisine made with freshly minced lamb and beef (or chicken) and then cooked vertically for a uniquely flavorful delicacy, that upon his return home, he and partner Robert Wicklund wrote a business plan that would bring the European street food to their home in L.A. With Mediterranean food as their inspiration, the two created an affordable, authentic California cuisine derived from a variety of flavors from Turkey, Germany, Spain, and California that can only be defined by “Spitz.”

St. Barts People hardly come to a place like St. Barts for its nighttime appearance. They come for the daytime views and gorgeous beaches shimmering with beauty, located right in the heart of the Caribbean. And while its rich and luxurious reputation has earned St. Barts a place among the most glamorous resort destinations in the world, the Caribbean island has somehow maintained its quaintness, warmth and charming old-fashioned quality. The nightlife scene, concentrated mainly in the Gustavia area, is not characterized by extravagance or extreme decadence. It is upscale, yet simple and chic. The main attractions of St. Barts’ nightlife scene are the supper clubs and leisure dining, but there are a few options for partying.

Le Select Le Select is one of the most popular gathering places in Gustavia, and it is a departure from the glitz and glamour that characterize the island’s bar and nightlife scene. It is a revolving door through which locals, tourists and even celebrities pass. This place is best for a quiet afternoon, a casual beer, and possibly some comfort food. Nikki Beach/Casa Nikki Nikki Beach is a notoriously exclusive chain of luxurious beach clubs catering to the modern upscale clientele. It is both wild and sophisticated, giving an anything-goes feeling to those who make it in. The private day club is staffed by workers almost as attractive as the clientele. Famous folks like the Hilton sisters and Diddy are known to show up with huge entourages, and often keep the champagne flowing. The all-white paradise beach club is a hotspot during the day, and people head to Casa Nikki at night. Casa Nikki is located in Gustavia Harbor and opens at 11 p.m., catering to yacht-hopping socialites ready to party through dawn to some of the islands best DJs and party hosts. The décor is simple and upscale, as is the Nikki Beach style—white slipcover sofas and club chairs. This is the premiere place to party with bronzed model types and socialites.
Le Yacht club A creation of Carole Gruson, St. Bart nightlife extraordinaire, Le Yacht Club is likely considered the chicest place to be in St. Barts. It is a waterfront supper club and lounge that offers a menu of continental French and seafood dishes. By 9 p.m., Le Yacht Club converts to a nightclub scene that often hosts celebrities and world-famous soccer players. Much like many of the other establishments in St. Barts catering to the rich and famous, the décor includes slip-covered chairs and fluffy oversized sofas in an all-white palette, floor to ceiling.
Voyageur Lounge Voyageur Lounge is somewhat of a fresh newcomer to the St. Barts’ bar scene. Its prime location offers a magnificent view of Gustavia Harbor. The putty-colored walls and glossy white trim of the upper-level lounge and bar space exude sophistication and elegance. It feels as if you’re lounging in some posh townhouse in the big city overlooking a playground for the yachting crowd. Voyageur is known for attractive female bartenders and hostesses that offer bottle service nightly.
Le 88 Inspired by the ambiance of tevernas in Oia or Mykonos, Le 88 is a sleek and sexy Greek tavern in Gustavia where welldressed crowds gather under a covered courtyard of Rue du Port for lunch and late night drinks. Inside Le 88, the dining room utilizes an open kitchen setting with a menu that offers tzazikis, hummus, calamari and grilled fish. The outdoor bar and patio lounge is a hotspot in St. Barts, where live lounge acts and rotating DJs set the mood.

MO DJ: My family is originally from Beirut Lebanon but I’ve lived in Huntington Beach most my life. NGM: What keeps you here? MO: House Arrest! [Laughing] Actually I was raised here and love the weather and the city. NGM: What’s your first memory of a DJ? MO: Watching Jam Master Jay and Run DMC on Yo MTV Raps! A lot of the old school hip hop groups growing up had a DJ in them. NGM: How did it shape your path to becoming a DJ? MO: Knowing that the DJ wasn’t just playing

NGM: Who’s the most innovative DJ right now? MO: There’s a lot. But most recently I liked watching A-trak evolve from a DMC champ to an Electro DJ/Producer. He’s adapted to the times. NGM: What’s the craziest gig you’ve ever played, for any reason? MO: I DJ’d on a cruise ship for fourteen days in a row. It was on the 17th deck. I really had to keep my balance and every night I had people swaying back and forth. It was pretty fun. NGM: How do you keep a crowd engaged? MO: I usually talk to them on the mic and make sure to have some sick breakdowns or build-ups in my set. Sometimes tossing in a

Mr. NiteGuide: Ever have technical difficulties?
Mr. NiteGuide: How would you describe Kryoman to someone who wasn’t familiar with him? Kryoman: The funny thing is, I see through the mask. If they’ve seen me for the first time, I can always tell by the expression on their face. You have to understand I’ve been working with these DJs for about fifteen years, they know exactly who I am. There’s a vibe between me and the DJ, and everybody else feeds off that. That’s what we do. I don’t try to muscle in and steal someone else’s spotlight. We come to compliment
Kryoman: Anything and everything. We’ve been on tour and had a stilt snap. We’ve fallen in front 15-20 thousand people on the stage. There’s been malfunctions, light-up heads have gone out, legs have gone out, there’s even been a headless robot on stage in front of a huge festival. My brother tripped on a cable in Guatemala City in the pouring rain, and knocked himself out clean on the stage. We’ve had some crazy malfunctions. We have to deal with it, the show must go on. Pick yourself up and get on with it. Mr. NiteGuide: So at this point you have multiple robots? Kryoman: Because of the high demand of what we do, there’s thousands of clubs all over the world, and cities that want a little piece of what we do. The only way to supply the demand was to build more. There’s a rigorous training, almost like boot camp, for all the Kryoman in my villa in Ibiza... It’s like a crash course, and I just push them on stage and see how they do. Imagine your in a crowd of a couple of thousand going wild to a DJ. Your carrying a 10,000 psi gas system, the floor is wet, covered in alcohol and glass, people are pushing you and jumping on you, regardless of security. ith summer in full swing, the SoCal beaches are filling up fast. Between the random guy wearing socks and the kid throwing sand, now might be the perfect time for something different. When you’re on the prowl for something a little less “crowded theme park” and a little more “sexy stranger-filled oasis,” its time to check out TAO Beach at The Venetian Las Vegas. Even miles from the ocean, TAO Beach is becoming one of the most talked about pools this summer. Teaming up with Maxim, the biggest men’s lifestyle brand in America, TAO Beach is now hosting Maxim Fridays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Previous venue events have included appearances by Benny Benassi, Nicky Romero and Cosmic Gate, and that’s only the starter course for the summer lineup. In addition, TAO Beach also runs a rotating schedule of cover model appearances and Maxim Magazine model searches. By Drew Leahy | Photography by Shelly Kindred On Sunday, June 10th, Iva Lee’s Restaurant located on historical El Camino Real in San Clemente celebrated ten years of honoring the unique flavors of the South and the savory recipes of Iva Lee. Delicious house-made cocktails, Creole jambalaya, delectable hors d’oeuvres, and New Orleans inspired live music brought the unique ambiance of the French Quarters to South Orange County in a celebration fit for Frenchman Street. Iva Lee’s Southern and Creole cuisine is Lisa and Eric Wagoner’s timely homage to Lisa’s late grandmother Iva Lee, and her classic Southern meals and welcoming disposition towards friends and family. A descendent of a long line of Southern women who passed down recipes from generation to generation since their arrival in America in 1640, Iva Lee prided herself on the variety of savory Southern meals she prepared for her friends and family. With that same ethos in mind, Iva Lee’s Restaurants prepare the tastiest New Orleansinspired entrees for welcomed patrons like everyday is Fat Tuesday. For the Ten Year Anniversary, Iva Lee’s Restaurant prepared tasty hors d’oeuvres such as filet crostini, salmon on flatbread, sweet potato fries with red eye aioli, and fried green tomatoes with remoulade and goat cheese. The Lousianna Lemonade with vodka complimented the appetizers and live New Orleans-inspired music. The contagious “Big Easy” mood at Iva Lee’s continued throughout the night. The anniversary brought old friends together and spawned new friendships. The restaurant successfully celebrated Iva Lee, all in the name of Southern hospitality.
Kristina Sky Lights up yost Yost Theater [Santa Ana]
Story and photos by Christina Montaldo On June 27th in the heart of Santa Ana, California, loud speakers from The Yost Theater carried out the beats of Los Angeles native Kristina Sky into the night. Sky played throughout the evening as the venue filled up with party goers who have a deep love for the music. Bringing together old and new tunes, Sky was the only female DJ spinning that evening, catering to the pumped up crowd. She spun an amazing set that night, as always. “Being a female in the scene is definitely annoying at times because certain people don’t take you seriously, but I do my best and show them I can do it as good as any male in the scene,” Sky shared. The DJ got started in the scene in the ‘90s as a concert goer, then turned to promoting the shows she attended. A few years after that she decided to start spinning herself, and the rest was history. “One of my favorite things about my job is having everyone just let go for an hour or so, forget about the weeks troubles and to just have a good time for a little while.” As the night unfolded there were smiles and laughter all around, the turn out was amazing, and everyone who came out to enjoy the music and atmosphere left with smiles and great memories.

Congorock brings energy Avalon [Hollywood]
By Drew Leahy | Photography by MyClubScene.com | Dave Orell On Friday, June 8th, the day that most electronic dance music enthusiasts will remember as day one of EDC-Las Vegas, Italy’s electro provocateur, Congorock, took the stage at Hollywood’s famous Avalon, determined to make his own memories full of satiating beats for his legion of devoted fans. John Pegnato, a.k.a. Hot Mouth (formally known as one half of LA Riots), impressed the crowd with his tasteful stock of funky, techy, fun electro house beats while the vacancies on the dance-floor slowly filled up. Shortly after midnight, Congorock ascended the stage and the whispers of “Why didn’t you go to EDC?” finally diminished. The felt anxiety of the crowd flitted from one person to another in anticipation of Congorock’s first drop. The crowd amassed, and the capacious venue filled up with enthused Congorock faithfuls, including fellow DJ/Producers Steve Duda and LeCastlevania. True to form, Congorock brought the energy with his driving synths and layered chainsaw-esque bass drops. From unproven bangers like his most recent tracks, “Monolith” and “Agarta,” to certified festival favorites like “Babylon,” the funky style and fat bass lines of Congorock correlated with the L.A. crowd. Congorock still pulled despite EDC’s undeniable presence, and the night operated as a platform for his latest material. tommy trash thrills lure Lure [Hollywood]

Since its opening, Lure’s Thursday nights have seen talent such as Wolfgang Gartner, Manufactured Superstars, HookNSling, Adrian Lux, Robbie Rivera, among others usher in the warm, L.A. summer with electric energy and stimulating sound. True to its coveted position as one of Hollywood’s leading hot spots showcasing the world’s best talent, Lure saw Australian DJ/producer Tommy Trash perform yet another knockout set on Thursday, June 27th, laying down some truly tantalizing tracks. As Lure’s space began to fill, Tommy Trash took the decks around midnight, putting on yet another wild show complete with his notorious head banging and massive sound. As party goers danced amid the kinetic light spheres and along the plush lounge seating lined with high definition LED walls, Tommy performed a seamless set, taking guests on a journey with an array of tracks. With the liquor flowing, people let loose as Tommy spun “The End” and his new remix of deadmau5’s “The Veldt.” He especially shocked the crowd as he mixed from House of Pain’s “Jump Around” into Sandro Silva & Quintino’s “Epic,” leaving guests with yet another extraordinary evening. With such talent already under its belt, nightlife lovers can expect Lure to continue to offer its guests a lineup of unforgettable, mind blowing nights with the world’s best DJs behind their decks.

B
onnaroo. The word bounces off your tongue with an almost hypnotic cadence, and by definition, represents “a really good time.” Kicking up dust for the 11th year in a row, Bonnaroo unfolded over June 7th – 10th mastering the art of its namesake once again. The stacked lineup for this years gathering in Manchester, Tennessee beckoned travelers from Canada to England, with several U.S. dialects peppered throughout. Outside the second entrance, a towering mutant cuckoo clock sang to festival goers below, offset by a brilliant light up ferris wheel just inside the gates. Entering the actual venue, the grounds were colored with multiple art installations, a people-friendly water fountain, water slide, comedy tent, and a solid range of vendors. Suiting up for a late start on night one, I headed over to This Tent (the actual name of the tent) to catch electro-funk duo Big Gigantic, whose blend of electronic music mixed with live drums and saxophone had the crowd primed for the marathon weekend ahead. Day two started inappropriately early, considering the Tennessee sun yields no mercy for a campground full of moon worshipping festival goers. 40 niteguidemag.com
Heading over to Which Stage (again, the actual name of one of two outdoor stages, the other –not surprisingly- entitled What Stage) to catch South Carolina rockers Needtobreathe. Though the group had not originally charted high on my radar, the four-piece served up some substantial rock and roll. Other highlights on day two included Ludacris, who drew an enormous and salivating crowd, along with a late night performance by Major Lazer (featuring EDM poster boy Diplo) that attracted a serious party, equipped with a charged audience and swagger-fueled dancers. The night’s heavy hitting success came from an upbeat and surprisingly engaging performance by Foster The People, and a predictably epic set from alt-legends Radiohead. The beauty of The Roo (as repeat offenders refer to it) lies in its fearlessness to pay homage to all types of music, both popular and regionally treasured. Saturday morning back at Which Stage, North Eastern trio The Devil Makes Three threaded ragtime and blues with rockabilly flair so well, I almost didn’t notice their lack of a drummer. Headliners Red Hot Chili Peppers tore through a hit-filled set, and just after midnight Alice Cooper kept things interesting by covering Lady Gaga’s
“Born This Way.” The dizzying cyclone of talent kept up momentum on the fourth and final day, with a moving performance by guitar virtuoso Gary Clark Jr., and a feel-good run from the legendary Beach Boys. As the last night of the festival raged on, the crowds grew denser and curiously more content with one another. With scattered rains and a farm full of 80,000 + music lovers, Bonnaroo rounded out the weekend with a nearly four hour set from jam icons Phish, who left the stage under a sky full of fireworks. Over the years, Bonnaroo earned “Festival of The Year” by multiple top tier publications, received the eco-friendly “A Greener Festival Award” five years running, and was named “One of the 50 moments that changed the history of rock and roll” by Rolling Stone Magazine. As with any population of 80,00 sharing 700 acres of farmland for four days, adversity arises, but the staple music event continues to have muscle where music is concerned, heart where organizers are concerned, and an overall sense of community that hasn’t been replicated at any other festival I’ve had the pleasure of attending. If “a really good time” is what you’re looking for, look no further than The Roo.

Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas By Allie Imai

rom June 8-10, the Las Vegas Motor Speedway opened its gates to 300,000 electronic music lovers looking to dance the night away under the desert sky at the 16th annual Electric Daisy Carnival. The celebrated festival has built a longstanding reputation over the years for its impressive combination of pyrotechnics, circus performers, carnival rides and a lineup of world class DJs, and this year Insomniac Events definitely lived up to the hype. Previously held at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, EDC found a new home at the Speedway in 2011. The massive venue allowed more breathing room for the festival and gave Insomniac a creative license to develop an experience that no other event of its kind can duplicate. Walking into the venue’s gates for the first night of nonstop dancing can only be described as entering an alternate universe. Fireworks, Ferris wheels, seven massive stages and the thumping of a heavy bass line are the only constants in this world, and every inch of the venue was filled with fire-spouting art installations, stilt walkers and infectious smiles from each passing person. Every stage offered something different to attendees, whether they came to be immersed in the melodies of trance, to stomp away to hard-style beats, or have their fists pumping in a sea of people at the energetic main stage. The noticeable theme across three nights and thousands of fans was an overwhelming love and appreciation for electronic dance music, an experience that can only fittingly be described as electric.

EDC’S TOP PERFORMERS CATCH UP WITH NITEGUIDE NGM: What makes EDC different from other festivals? ATB: EDC is kind of a special thing. The good thing about EDC is that they understand that a good festival is not just getting the stage, the DJ and people there to make a lot of money. They know you have to offer a little more to satisfy the people. NGM: Care to elaborate? ATB: I really feel like the EDC organizers are wanting to offer a lot and put money back into the production. It’s
not just the technical side, it’s a kind of entertainment production. I never saw this at other festivals. There are a lot of festivals worldwide, but for me this is number one, because when you are there you don’t know where to look first. You don’t just hear things, it’s a full visual experience. I like that. I hope that they keep putting the people as the focus of the whole production. They say it’s the people in the end who make a good party. It’s not just the DJs, the lights, whatever. It’s a full experience and they [Insomniac] are really professional in doing that.

NGM: What was the overall production like? Mim: EDC is a mind blowing festival. I honestly think it’s in a league of its own. The people that put on those events, they don’t just treat it like a normal festival. They really make a massive effort to the aesthetic of the whole festival.
NGM: Tell us about the Nicky Romero collaboration you dropped at EDC? Mim: “Like Home,” we love that song! We wrote it when we were playing an Energy gig in Utrecht, and we said, “Hey, why don’t we spend an extra two days in Holland and write it?” And we did, and we came up with two records. One of them is “Like Home.” NGM: Traffic and weather seemed to be the only challenges. Did you feel they were a big factor? Liv: Not for us luckily, we played on Friday when it was perfect. It did take two hours to get to the venue, but it only adds to the anticipation when you know you’ve traveled for something like this.

NGM: How was it dropping WTF at Electric Daisy Carnival? Nicky Romero: Awesome! I am very happy the track is doing so well. For the first release on Protocol Recordings, it did amazing and the response from the crowd was absolutely overwhelming! NGM: How do you feel the fans at EDC help define the show? NR: This year the overall production was top notch I must say, so that alone made for a great show. The
icing on the cake at EDC was and always will be the crowd though. They make it happen and make it an absolute party! The energy they give all day and all night in those conditions is an achievement by itself, great to see that music unifies and brings this positive vibe!
NGM: How was crowd connection at EDC Las Vegas this year?

NGM: What’s the craziest thing you witnessed at EDC this year? SA: Playing the Art Car at 4:30 a.m. to whoever was left over on day two.
NGM: What is it like playing at your Marquee residency in Las Vegas? NR: Great! The Marquee is a great venue and the people are a treat to work with over there. They bring in the best crowds that are totally up for it every time I play there.

Wynn Music Week Invades Las Vegas

lectric Daisy Carnival swept through Sin City in early June, accentuated by the first ever Wynn Music Week, an industry celebration of the best in electronic dance music that ran concurrently with EDC. The week long event took place from June 6th to the 11th at Wynn Las Vegas’ posh entertainment venues XS, Tryst, Encore Beach Club and Surrender. The hotel itself is stunning, with 45 floors, 4,750 rooms and a penchant for earning top tier ratings for food and accommodations. With a reputation for class and sophisticated fun, owner Steve Wynn had the foresight to become involved in the electronic music influx to Las Vegas during Electric Daisy Carnival, offering music lovers an additional layer of entertainment. Kicking the week off at Tryst, Berlin based DJ and producer Thomas Gold threw down a string of his amazing smash singles, thrilling the crowd that included the likes of Ashley Tisdale, Paris Hilton, Cheryl Burke, and fellow DJs Sebastian Ingrosso and Alesso. As the week continued to unfold in the lavish hotel, XS offered up its accessible dance floor and re46 niteguidemag.com
freshinng pool filled with glistening party goers. On the 10th, the nightclub presented “Night Swim,” an after dark pool soiree that featured the Jacked Party with Dutch DJ/producer Afrojack, where swimwear was strongly encouraged. Fans of Afrojack were able to enjoy his sound amidst water, cocktails, and the brilliant Las Vegas skyline. The week was rounded out by yet another amazing show at XS, for the IN industry night that featured Skrillex and Diplo. The evening ignited with additional surprise appearances by Avicii, R3hab and 12th Planet. With such a successful round of shows for the first official Wynn Music Week, next year will be hard to top. Yet if there’s one brand that could do it, it’s Wynn Las Vegas.

Fans crowded in front of stages, started circle mosh pits, crowd surfed, and threw their hands into the air for their favorite artists with the music lasting from 11:00am-9:00pm.
One memorable moment for many included Yellowcard’s closing song, “Ocean Avenue.” Anyone who shared this moment could feel the explosion of excitement as the first chords of the classic Yellowcard song blasted over the crowd. As their set ended, Taking Back Sunday took the stage and closed the event with an enthralling and energetic show, leaving fans buzzing about their experience. These unbelievable performances along with many others made Irvine’s Vans Warped Tour one for the history books, and after selling out to a record breaking crowd in Pomona for the following date, the tour shows no signs of slowing.
Usually, Warped Tour includes fighting the heat of summer, but this year the weather decided to play fair and spoil the crowd with a perfectly warm day and light winds. But even when the weather is fair, water will always be a necessity. This year, Klean Kanteen provided water bottle refill stations throughout the grounds as well as tents to purchase reusable water bottles. If a break was needed from the loud music and jumping around, Monster and Peace Tea provid-

yClubScene.com celebrated its three year anniversary over June 22-24, stretching out over an entire weekend filled with amazing people, great music and just the right amount of debauchery, sponsored by Asahi. The site has built over 33,000 members providing more than just information, but a community for nightlife lovers. People can post photos of themselves, view photo galleries from top events and get updates on the hottest clubs nationwide. MyClubScene allows everyone to party VIP style with their free guest lists and discount ticket opportunities, creating minimum hassle and maximum fun for its members. With all of these perks, it’s no wonder the MCS team and a few hundred of their closest friends let loose for three days throughout Southern California. Friday night kicked off the festivities at Playhouse in Hollywood, with the music stylings of DJ S.Co. logo ran across the LED screens. On Saturday, the momentum kept up at Posch Ultra Lounge in Irvine. The stylish venue had multiple rooms and fireplaces, along with great food that was accentuated by the creative cocktails coming from the full bar. On hand to keep bodies on the dance floor was DJ Eric Cubeechee, whose beats kept energy high all night long. Rounding out the weekend, MyClubScene headed down to San Diego for Intervention at Hard Rock Hotel. Nothing says summer like cruising down the coastline in a party bus to join a pool full of people rocking out to the sounds of Morgan Page. Not only were MyClubScene members on hand, four lucky contest winners won two tickets, two drinks and the honor of meeting Morgan before his set. Sunday’s pool party ended a marathon weekend of celebration. With three successful years under its belt, MyClubScene looks to expand nationally and launch its new website equipped with an iPhone app later this year.
