Division 21!

In this scroll

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m a little sad it’s August already—but maybe it’s because it’s that month where we have to start our summer homework we slacked off in July, get ready for school, get in shape for preseason, and all that other good stuff. However, there is one good thing that will be happening at the end of this month—and that is our first divisional event: a Division 21 Fun in the Sun Day! An in depth invitation was sent to you all, but just in case, I included it on page four of this issue.

Message from your LTG .............................1

Since it’s the beginning of the month, you know what that means: CMRFs for the month of July is due soon, August 10th to be exact. As always, it does not matter how much service you guys perform during these summer months, but it is essential you still fill it out, for there are parts where you evaluate me as a Lieutenant Governor. Note: for the dues section, until your club pays them in the next few months, mark as “unpaid.” Also with the approaching fall season comes RTCs and Fall Rally. Please see page five for information regarding those two important dates. You must attend this Fall RTC in the North if you did not attend the Spring RTC.

Accomplishments Corner Division 21 has been a leading division of the New Jersey District of Key Club International thanks to all of your hard work and dedication! All of you: whether you’re a club Secretary filling out CMRFs or a general member participating in fundraisers, you have started our service year off to a wonderful start. Here are a few out of the many reasons why you guys are so amazing:

 100% collection of CMRFs for the month of July from all clubs

Club Thank-Yous Thank you, High Point: For great communication and continuing to work together over the summer! Thank you, Sparta: For your consistent early submission of CMRFs! Thank you, Mt. Olive: For great communication and timeliness of CMRFs! Thank you, Vo-Tech: For consistently submitting CMRFs early, great communication, and working hard to make sure you remain a Key Club! Thank you, Pope John: For good communication!

In the Spotlight: Name: Matt Paulik HS: Sussex Vo-Tech Position: Secretary Grade: Senior

Matt has been a wonderful officer of our Division. As soon as he took office, he has consistently been sending in CMRFs, not on-time, but early! At times, he will send them in a week early, which is such a great help to me. CMRFs are an important part of Key Club, not only because they tell me, a Lieutenant Governor, what you guys have been up to in your clubs, but they tell the entire NJ District the service you have been performing. All CMRFs are due the 10th of every month and it is essential to have them in on that time because once I receive all of those CMRFs, I then send them onto the District Secretary, who takes a look at all of them. Thank you, Matt, for being a great role model all the Division 21 Secretaries can look up to!

Thank you, Vernon: For excellent communication and keeping me constantly updated on what your club is doing! Thank you, Hackettstown: For early submission of CMRFs and good communication!

Youth Opportunities Fund

-Written by District Treasurer, Devan Corona Is your dream service project just out of reach? Do you have it all planned out and the man-power to execute it but you lack the funds? Maybe you would like to help local children through education or the elderly through recreation. There are thousands of great service projects out there and the Youth Opportunities Fund (YOF) can help your turn your dream to a reality. The Fund is all about financial support. Your club can be awarded anywhere from $200 to $2000 of assistance for your project. But now you might be thinking, “If someone is just giving out money, there must be strings attached.” There really aren’t; The Youth Opportunities Fund is such a simple process. All you have to do is plan, apply, and complete your project. With those three steps, you’ll be on your way to one of the most successful projects ever! So you have your project idea, where do you go from here? Start with detailed planning to determine if the YOF is even needed to fund the project. Being economical can eliminated many wasteful costs. If you have already planned and your club still cannot fund the entire project, apply for YOF immediately. Don’t be nervous to apply. Even though you have International competition, the YOF is one of the most under-utilized resources Key Club has to offer. Very few people apply so if you enter properly, your chances of winning are pretty good. Also, there is more than one winner. The Committee picks the projects on an individual basis not in competition against one another. The application deadline is October 15th and there is only one funding cycle per year. If you miss out your project may have to go on hold. Start by checking out the Youth Opportunities Fund Webpage where you can find previous winning projects and the application. The application is only two pages long and easy to complete, but here are some tips on entry. Make an effort to partially fund your project without the YOF grant; the committee loves to see that you have put effort into funding the project by yourselves. A precise project timeline and detailed line item budget should be included so the committee knows you are committed to the project and have a solid plan of execution. They only want to fund responsible clubs! The final tip is a detailed application. Chose to be more specific rather than less, the committee that chooses winners does not know your area’s needs. Make sure they understand why this project is vital to your community. With all of that said it is time for you to go out and make your dream a reality. Take your service project idea and run with it; you will end up impacting the lives of so many people. Remember the deadline for application is October 15th, so have your application in way before that. It’s better to be early than late because the mail got lost. I wish you all good luck with the Youth Opportunities Fund, now go out there and get it done!

Upcoming Events

Fall RTC (North) If you didn’t attend the Spring North RTC in May at Morris Knolls High School, it is imperative you attend this Fall Northern RTC being held at Millburn HS. Unfortunately, this is a greater distance than Morris Knolls, but if you chose not to come to the Spring RTC, it is mandatory you attend this one. More details will follow soon regarding times and directions. It will take place on Saturday, September 25th. If for some reason, you cannot attend this one, you will have to go out of your way to attend either the South or Central RTC. They are your last options! Fall Rally Fall Rally is an awesome gathering of over a thousand Key Clubbers from all over New Jersey who come together at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ to get pumped up for the new service year! It will take place on Sunday, October 10th. Even though it is not until October, it is vital you begin planning for how your club will go about this. If you wait until school begins again in September, it might be hard for you to gain approval for a bus since your Boards of Education will not meet for awhile. Start having your club members save money, talk to your school’s administration, and plan early. That way, when the fall comes around, you don’t have to worry about getting your Key Club field trip approved and you can ease into Six Flags without any anxiety.

Important Reminders

Completing the CMRF for the month of July: Secretaries must complete this by August 10th

Attending PCMs and OTCs coordinated by me: There was no PCM for the month of July, however they will resume in August at a TBA date.

Preparing to attend the Fall RTC: You are responsible to attend the Fall North RTC in Millburn to be trained if you did not attend the Spring RTC held in May. If you cannot make the North RTC, it is up to you to travel to the Central RTC or South RTC.

UPCOMING DATES: August 10th: CMRFs for the month of July are due August 25th: Division 21 Fun in the Sun Day September 10th: CMRFs for the month of August are due September 25th: North RTC @ Millburn HS October 10th: Fall Rally @ Six Flags, CMRFs for the month of September are due October 15th: YOF application due, registration for Key Leader due
