Greetings division 16! With the summer coming to an end there a number of events coming up to get excited for! In the coming months you’ll get to Sing the Songs of Service at the 2010 Fall Rally, Rock Out with Service at Spring Regional Training conferences, and just get generally excited about service and Key club! I know many of your clubs have annual service projects and general plans for the year but this coming year our clubs can make an even greater difference in our communities by working together. Whether it’s joint fundraisers, getting together, or just sharing ideas for projects your club and grow and strengthen along with the rest of the clubs in our division by talking and working with one another.

Fall Rally As the summer winds down and our heads reluctantly fall back in between our textbooks there is a glimmering light up ahead, a shining event that keeps our spirits high. Since you already know what I’m talking about I know I don’t have to say it, but I will anyways, of course the event I’m talking about is Fall Rally! This October a record breaking 3,000 Key club members will gather in Six Flags Great Adventure to Sing the Songs of Service! We will be celebrating the service year with thrills and chills from the rides to the cheers, it is an exciting day for all. We will begin by having the park open early just for the New Jersey District of Key club and then, after a quick session of cheers laughs and costumes we will move to the park and spend the rest of the day on rides during Six flags’ annual Fright Fest! Register with the registration packet found in your September mailing and talk to me if you need any help or have any questions.

Get ready to Rock out With Service this September!

Background: Imagine being challenged to make an international impact in which everyone is affected. This is the very task Key Clubs and members were given at the 1946 International Convention, where the term "Major Emphasis Program" was first coined. Ever since then, Key Clubbers have worked towards one program, "Children: Their Future, Our Focus." Service Initiative Every two years, Key Club International selects a service initiative which ties into the major emphasis program. The service initiative for the 2008-2010 Service Years has been extended so our service initiative for the 2010-2011 year of service will remain "Live 2 Learn." Every day, there is a Key Clubber making a difference in the lives from 5 - 9 year olds in three major ways. Firstly, Key Clubbers help improve grades by tutoring and mentoring. Secondly, Key Clubbers are giving back by coordinating service projects for young students to partake in while teaching youth to be lifelong servant leaders. Lastly, Key Clubbers serve primary school children by growing together, by helping the development of social skills in young children while subtly teaching them to think creatively. Give someone the opportunity to do what you once had the chance to do, help primary school children overcome learning obstacles so that they can be successful and give back to and serve their homes, schools and communities. What can you do? Getting involved in the major emphasis program is so simple! You can simply volunteer, donate, or just get involved in any organization, fundraiser or activity which will benefit a child. Any fundraiser which goes to a charity geared towards children falls under the Major Emphasis program, and service project such as tutoring or restoring a play ground. In fact, many key clubbers participate in the MAJOR EMPHASIS PROGRAM and they don't even know it! Written by Kim Lu LTG Div. 17
