Hey Division 10 Key Clubbers!

Service Partners ...... 3

It’s so hard to believe that another school year has come to an end! So as we long forward to awesome summer I would just like to recap some things. The Spring Regional Training Conferences were success; they were very informative and lots of fun! I know it was hard for division 10 clubs to make it, but in the fall we will have a location that close to us, to make sure you guys attend, since it is mandatory. So please plan to attend the Fall RTCs. Additionally, I have started holding Officer Training Conferences for each club to train the new officers and ensure you guys have the best service year. If I still haven’t trained your club, please get back to me with a date that is good for everyone so we can arrange a meeting. Thanks to those clubs whom I have already trained! Now that summer is starting, please remember that CMRFs are still due during the summer months even if your club doesn’t do much. You should try to stay active over the summer, and plan a few easy activities/events. Please don’t hesitate to call, text, email, Facebook, or IM me. I would love to hear from you =)

DISTRICT/ DIVISON INFO

District Project: CSH The New Jersey District has proudly chosen Children’s Specialized Hospital as the District Project for the 2010-2011 service year! This is the fifth year the New Jersey District is partnering with the Hospital and we are all excited for a great year. Children’s Specialized Hospital is one of the largest pediatric rehabilitation facilities in the state and offer care to all patients who need it, regardless of their ability to pay. This year the fundraising goal is $75,401.65. This number contains a lot of significance. The 7 is for seven days of service, 5 for the fifth year, 401 is the thousands of total dollars donated if this goal is met, and 65 is the number of years of the NJ District. The service goal is 15, 700. This signifies a hundred hours per club. These goals are totally achievable and can even be surpassed as long as each and every club stays involved. I encourage you to plan and execute and many events and projects for CSH. Your club should also look into Recreational Therapy. The New Brunswick location of CSH is very close to our schools and we should take advantage of that and help such a great cause!

Officer Training Conferences A very important part of running a successful Key Club is having an effective and productive Executive Board. This is where an Officer Training Conference comes in! An OTC is mandatory for all new officers and it is an opportunity for me, your LTG, to meet with the member of one club’s executive board and talk about the state of your school’s Key Club. Any problems or issues you may have, a suggestion for future activates, or questions about events can all be addresses at an OTC. Additionally, an OTC is where new officers will receive their training manuals for the position that they hold. These manuals contain all the information that you will most probably need to do the best job you can, from information about the District Project, to how to hold an effective meeting. Most importantly, an OTC is a great way to get excited about the service year and continue to build a great relationship with your club and me! If your club has not yet had your OTC please email me back with a date/time that works!

KEY CLUB SERIVE PARTNERS March Of Dimes UNICEF Another Key Club International Service Partner is UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund). This year, UNICEF launched their “I Believe in Zero” campaign. This awareness program is based on the fact that, worldwide, 25,000 children die every day from preventable causes. However, by increasing education, providing medical care, and supplying food for these children, UNICEF hopes to reduce that number to “zero”. More details on this campaign can be found at www.ibelieveinzero.org. As Key Clubbers, you play an integral part in the UNICEF fundraising process. The major fundraiser for UNICEF is Trickor-Treat for UNICEF. Every club in the NJ District should receive a bundle of orange boxes, stickers and other information before Halloween. Some leave the boxes in local businesses or in various rooms throughout their school. Others stick them in friend’s lockers or teachers’ mailboxes. The most common method is, of course, going around Trick-or-Treating on Halloween with the bright box in hand! Whichever way you choose, you can contribute! This year, the fundraising goal for UNICEF for the NJ District of Key Club International is $33,190.25. --3.3 million: The number of newborns worldwide dying in the first month of life is 3.3 million --190 countries that UNICEF works in --25 for 25,000 children dying every day from preventable causes. To reach this goal, we need everyone’s help so please pick up an orange box today and start Trick-or-Treating! (http://youth.unicefusa.org/trickortreat/ ) As Key Clubbers, most of us are aware that the District Project for this service year is the wonderful Children’s Specialized Hospital.

KEY

CLUB

However, did you know that Key Club International also partners with other service organizations around the world? One such organization is the March of Dimes! March of Dimes is a global non-profit organization that aims to combat premature birth, birth defects, and infant mortality in infants while also promoting healthier lifestyles for mothers. This great cause has been around since 1938 and has raised millions of dollars for treatments and research. Key Clubbers have a passion for service and March of Dimes is a truly worthy cause and there are many ways you can get involved. The first step is to contact your local March of Dimes chapter and partner with them to hold a fundraiser. Any type of fundraiser can help you raise money for the cause, no matter how large or small. They can range from bake sales to car washes to dances to anything you can imagine! Additionally, your club can sell March of Dimes merchandise, such as wristbands or Tshirts, etc. The possibilities are endless so don’t be afraid to get creative! March of Dimes’ largest event is the annual walk, March for Babies, so your club should definitely plan on attending. This year the fundraising goal for the NJ District is $3,000, so let’s work together to make it happen! To get more information and find a March of Dimes chapter near you, visit www.marchofdimes.com
