Meissner’s Monthly Marauder!

Volume 1 Issue 1

In this issue!

Hello and Welcome! Hello Division 12! I’m Aimee Meissner, your Lieutenant Governor for the 2010-2011 service year! I am very excited to debut my first newsletter! This newsletter is designed to keep you informed with all the happenings of our magical Division 12! I hope that with each passing month, I’ll be able to incorporate some of your own articles. I want to spotlight the people in our division, and the awesome work that you do all year! I’d like to start off by explaining the title of this newsletter. I am quite a fan of Harry Potter. For those of you who are also fans, you are probably familiar with the Marauder’s Map. The map lets you know where everyone is in the castle. I want this newsletter to show you what is going on in our division. I hope to spotlight outstanding Key Clubbers in each issue so that you can all see who’s who here in Division 12! You’ll also be able to see where important events are happening and how you can help out! I hope that you all enjoy this newsletter, and know that it is always a resource for your clubs. I cannot wait to start the service year! If at any time you have any questions or concerns, please let me know! Also, if you have any suggestions for me, don’t hesitate to tell me! I hope to see you soon! Have a lovely time with service! Mischief managed! With Love,

Aimee Meissner

DCON Recap leadership The 64th Annual District Convention for the New Jersey District of Key Club International took place from April 16-18, 2010 at the Valley Forge Convention Center in Valley Forge, PA. At the convention, your 2010-2011 New Jersey District Executive Board was elected. Rachel Orbach was elected to serve as Governor of the New Jersey District. Kevin Sun will serve as District Secretary, Devan Corana will be your District Treasurer, and Nicole Darrah was elected to serve as District Editor. The House of Delegates unanimously endorsed Alyssa Keenan to run for International Trustee at ICON in Memphis this summer. The Lieutenant Governors for each division were also instated. 600+ Key Club members attended the convention this year! The weekend was filled with fun workshops, insightful speakers, and tons of service. Brick Memorial served as the host club for the walk held to benefit CSH. A service fair was also put on to give clubs great ideas to try for the next service year. At DCON, it was announced that the District Project will be Children’s Specialized Hospital for the fifth year in a row. Everyone who went to DCON had a swell time, and I certainly hope that we can have many more attendees from Division 12!

Children’s Specialized Hospital

For the fifth year in a row, the New Jersey District Project will be Children’s Specialized Hospital! This means that we need to revamp our service projects to keep interest. To start, talk to your clubs about Children’s Specialized Hospital. Here in Key Club, we love CSH because of the selfless, wonderful people they are. At CSH, no child is turned down for inability to pay. They really need our help! They are truly a most worthy cause. However, money is not the only thing you can donate. You can also donate your time! The kids really love seeing Key Clubbers all the time, and ask any Key Clubber who has gone before about how fun it is. The kids really love seeing Key Clubbers all the time, and ask any Key Clubber who has gone before about how fun it is. You really want to come back all the time, because the people you meet are truly remarkable. I promise that the kids will touch your heart, and your CSH projects will be some of your favorites! So, what can you do for CSH? Well, you can do many fun service projects. Whatever you can think of, you can do! You can hold a walk for CSH, (or a run, if you prefer). You can hold a Shave-orSave. This requires a very awesome teacher with a lot of hair. You have two jars, one to save him, and one to shave him. Have students put money in the jars to shave or save. Whichever jar has the most money, is the winner. All proceeds go to CSH. If you can’t find a good barber, maybe your club could have a regular coin toss. Have a jar at every meeting that your officers can pass around. Members can put whatever loose change they have in the jar, and keep it going at every meeting. By

the end of the year, your club will have a hefty total for the Hospital! If you want to do more, visit the kids! You’ll have to schedule your visit. Contact me and I can help you plan your day if you’d like. Essentially, there is no limit to how much you can do for Children’s Specialized Hospital! I’ve merely given you suggestions! By all means, take the lead and get the word out for the Hospital. I hope that everyone can make every effort to make this a great service year for CSH! I cannot wait to hear what you guys are doing!

International Convention Hey all! It’s almost that time of year again. ICON is almost here! This year’s convention will take place in Memphis, Tennessee. The New Jersey District will be touring from July 4-12. We’ll be making some fun stops along the way. First, we’ll be stopping in Ohio to visit Cedar Point amusement park. We will be able to see the fireworks in the park in honor of Independence Day. We will visit the park again the next day, and then we will make our way to Nashville, where we will stay overnight again, then head out to our final destination, Memphis. Once we get to Memphis, we’ll see the Civil Rights Museum, as well as the Memphis Zoo. Oh, let’s not forget about the convention! Convention promises to be jam-packed with insightful workshops, inspiring speakers, and wonderful Key Clubbers from around the world! ICON is an experience like no other, and it’s highly recommended by the District Board. The total cost is around $850. It’s a little pricey, but it is most definitely worth it. If you are interested, please contact me for more information. I hope to see you there!
