Divisional Officer Month!.............................2 Important Dates ……….2

Hello Division 15! It certainly has been an exceptionally productive month of June for us all, attempting to manage the stress of SATs, final exams and of course, the relief of not having to wake up early every morning to go to school. As the school year finally comes to a close, it does not mean us as Key Clubbers should begin to slack off on our duties. Rather than neglecting responsibilities and believing that Key Club is over since school is, that is certainly not the case. I urge every club to begin brainstorming ideas on how to boost membership as well as fundraising and project ideas which can commence as early as September. The contents of this newsletter are extremely vital as there is information on Key Club International’s Service Partners, UNICEF and the March of Dimes Society. Also included in this newsletter is an overview of the extremely successful CSH Dinner/Dance which was held on June 12 at the Zin Lounge in Secaucus, NJ. Things have been great for Division 15 and I hope that things only continue to get better. As of the end of June, all of the officers which have been elected thus far have been trained meaning over 70% OF OFFICERS have been trained which is astonishing considering it is so early in the year. Monthly Report Forms have been submitted properly and although there were a few problems, I’d like to thank all the club secretaries for properly completing the forms which is not an easy task considering it was the first time filling it out for many of them. Also, I’d like to thank the club presidents Megha Dharia of County Prep, Akhinav Raval of McNair and Neel Patel of Dickinson for attending the very first President’s Council Meeting. I’m extremely proud of how we’ve started off this service year and can only hope that the success continues, keep up the good work Division 15!

Divisional Officer of the month There is a little bit of a twist to this month’s newsletter, rather than including both an Officer/General Member of the Month, I have decided to limit it to only “Officer of the Month.” The general member section will return in September once school begins and member participation comes into effect.

As everyone throughout Key Club International knows, Club Monthly Report Forms are one of the most important aspects and are crucial for the wellbeing and success of not only the club but the division and ultimately the district. The responsibility of completing these forms is given to one of the most tedious club level positions that are currently in existence. The position of Club Secretary requires lots of organization and time management but most importantly, it requires patience. Dealing with loads of paperwork certainly isn’t the ideal situation for anyone to handle but club secretaries make sure everything is structured and accurate. I am pleased to announce that the officer of the month is none other than Puja Patel, the cosecretary from County Prep High School. In her first month in office, Puja worked to keep track of every payment given to her in regards to admission tickets for the June 12 CSH Dance. She not only kept outstanding track of the money but kept accurate records to ensure there wasn’t any confusion or mix-ups concerning admission tickets for the dance. Other than keeping track of payments, Puja also completed her very first Monthly Report Form as Club Secretary and sent it out on time. These MRFs certainly aren’t an easy task to complete and that is just one of the many reasons why she is being recognized as this month’s “Officer of the Month” for Division 15!

Important Events Club Secretaries: as previously mentioned, your report forms for the summer months will seem plain and blank, regardless of that matter, it is crucial that they are still submitted, on time, with the proper information filled out. Club Presidents: as discussed in my first PCM, the next meeting will be sometime towards the end of July or the beginning of August, you will be receiving the specifics about the meeting once all the details are confirmed.

KEY CLUB Division 15 Newsletter

Imagine being in a room full of key clubbers throughout the division all brought together in the name of charity, having a great time dancing with friends, loud music blasting through oversized speakers and the smell of exotic food in the air. If you feel like this is the setting you wish to be in and weren’t at the dance held on June 12 at the lavish Zin Lounge in Secaucus, NJ on behalf of Children’s Specialized Hospital, you definitely missed out. As the new Lieutenant Governor, I held my very first divisional event where all proceeds were donated to the New Jersey District Project, Children’s Specialized Hospital. The event was extremely successfully and with everyone’s help, I managed to raise close to $450 in donations for Children’s Specialized Hospital. I would like to thank everyone who attended the event furthermore, I would like to thank Dickinson’s VicePresident, Ritesh Patel for his help with the hotel, Dickinson’s Treasurer Hardi Shah for her help in attempting to get more people to attend, County Prep’s Co-Secretary Puja Patel for keeping track of a vast amount of the payments and the advisor from Mr. Bonito for his show of support as well as his graciousness in saying a few words at the end of the event. I hope everyone enjoyed themselves at the dance, with any luck I should be able to host another one before my term as Lieutenant Governor is over!

Division 15 – Official Newsletter

UNICEF and March of Dimes About UNICEF and March of Dimes, By, Lieutenant Governors Sarah and Jiayun – International Programs Committee As Key Clubbers, most of us are aware that the District Project for this service year is the wonderful Children’s Specialized Hospital. However, did you know that Key Club International also partners with other service organizations around the world? One such organization is the March of Dimes! March of Dimes is a global non-profit organization that aims to combat premature birth, birth defects, and infant mortality in infants while also promoting healthier lifestyles for mothers. This great cause has been around since 1938 and has raised millions of dollars for treatments and research. Key Clubbers have a passion for service and March of Dimes is a truly worthy cause and there are many ways you can get involved. The first step is to contact your local March of Dimes chapter and partner with them to hold a fundraiser. Any type of fundraiser can help you raise money for the cause, no matter how large or small. They can range from bake sales to car washes to dances to anything you can imagine! Additionally, your club can sell March of Dimes merchandize, such as wristbands or T-shirts, etc. The possibilities are endless so don’t be afraid to get creative! March of Dimes’ largest event is the annual walk, March for Babies, so your club should definitely plan on attending. This year the fundraising goal for the NJ District is $3,000, so let’s work together to make it happen! To get more information and find a March of Dimes chapter you can visit www.marchofdimes.com Another Key Club International Service Partner is UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund). This year, UNICEF launched their “I Believe in Zero” campaign. This awareness program is based on the fact that, worldwide, 25,000 children die every day from preventable causes. However, by increasing education, providing medical care, and supplying food for these children, UNICEF hopes to reduce that number to “zero”. More details on this campaign can be found at www.ibelieveinzero.org. As Key Clubbers, you play an integral part in the UNICEF fundraising process. The major fundraiser for UNICEF is Trick-orTreat for UNICEF. Every club in the NJ District should receive a bundle of orange boxes, stickers and other information before Halloween. Some leave the boxes in local businesses or in various rooms throughout their school. Others stick them in friend’s lockers or teachers’ mailboxes. The most common method is, of course, going around Trick-or-Treating on Halloween with the bright box in hand! Whichever way you choose, you can contribute! This year, the fundraising goal for UNICEF for the NJ District of Key Club International is $33,190.25. --3.3 million: The number of newborns worldwide dying in the first month of life is 3.3 million --190 countries that UNICEF works in --25 for 25,000 children dying every day from preventable causes. To reach this goal, we need everyone’s help so please pick up an orange box today and start Trick-or-Treating! (http://youth.unicefusa.org/trickortreat/ )
