Hello Division 17! This is your Lieutenant Governor, Kimberly Lu, here. In this issue of „The Blue and Yellow Pages‟, I have included important information about OTC‟s and PCM‟s, information on the Key Leader, and much more! Get started and get reading! Key clubbers don‟t forget! The end of the school year doesn‟t mean the end of service. It‟s important to hold service projects and fundraisers over the summer to keep up the Key Club spirit. Officers, be prepared. Don‟t start next year without any goals or plans. Use this summer wisely and think ahead for what you want to do in September. As always, I would be happy to attend any projects your club has in mind for June, July, or August. Remember, service never takes a vacation! Do you have any questions? Or just want to talk about Key Club? Feel free to contact me! Yours in Caring and Service, Kimberly Lu Lt. Governor of Division 17 E - mail: ltg17kimberly@gmail.com

What is an OTC? An Officer Training Conference (OTC) is a divisonal meeting of as many clubs in the division as possible meant to train the officers. This divisional meeting is set aside at the beginning of the service year to jump start the officers in their positions. The officers will receive their training manuals that will guide them through their service year. Why should officers attend an OTC? All officers should attend at least one OTC that is held. This is because without training, they may miss out on a few aspects of their job that can keep them from becoming distinguished. At OTC’s, I answer any questions officers may have about their position. I plan on individually visiting each school, so expect a phone call from me hoping to arrange a visit! What is a President‟s Council Meeting (PCM)? A PCM is a meeting of officers from a division where international, district, and divisional information is discussed. Every PCM must meet quorum to “count.” Quorum is defined when you have a majority of clubs represented (more than half like 4/7 is the minimum quorum for a division with 7 clubs). Who should come to PCMs? All presidents should attend PCMs, but if they cannot, a representative (preferably an officer) must be sent as a representative. All other club officers may attend. Past OTC‟s: Glen Ridge High School – May 31, 2010 Nutley High School – June 4, 2010 Next PCM (very important!!): Starbucks @ 360 New Jersey 3, Clifton, NJ 07014-1900 – June 19, 2010 @ 4:30 P.M. – All beverages are on me. Free Coffee! – Contact me immediately if you cannot attend.

By Public Relations Committee Co-Chairpersons Nicole Darrah & Brian Cheung

The Public Relations Committee was formerly known as the District Relations Committee‌ until it was changed back in the 2009-2010 service year. The general idea of this committee is simple: Publicize + Build + Inform = Public Relations.

Throughout the service year, this committee is assigned to create PowerPoints and videos, contact the local media, write articles, create brochures, and to overall publicize Key Club and its work in any way possible. We cannot do what we do without YOU, the members of this organization! It takes work on our part, but itâ€&#x;s a very simple thing for you to do. Why do you love Key Club? What makes Key Club so great? What does Key Club give to you? Instead of answering these questions in your head, answer them by telling your friends! By letting your friends know all about the wonderful thing that is Key Club, you are doing exactly what this committee entails: publicizing!

If you have any questions or comments about the Public Relations Committee, contact co-chairs Nicole Darrah (njkceditor@gmail.com) or Brian Cheung (ltgcheung@aol.com)!

3,000 Key Clubbers. 13 Roller Coasters. 1 Fall Rally. That‟s right! On October 10th, 2010, the New Jersey District of Key Club will be Singing the Songs of Service at its annual Fall Rally at the thrill-inducing Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ! Picture a beautiful October day. Now imagine it in the backdrop, reflecting over Kingda Ka‟s monstrous 456-foot high peak. Finally, imagine this stunning sight in the distance, as you sit in an arena with 3,000 other Key Clubbers, fighting to win the Spirit Stick, and watching an amazing celebrity look-alike contest. However, the fun doesn‟t end there! Once the short and fun-filled session ends, you have the day to roam the park as you wish. Fight your fears of the dark by going on Skull Mountain, or attempt to conquer the beast as you undertake a front-row experience of El Toro. The possibilities are endless! This year, Fall Rally costs only $32 if you get your payment in by October 1 st! If payment comes in late, it costs $37. Regardless, you are getting admission into the park for almost half of the regular price. Of course, if you are a season pass holder, the cost of Fall Rally is a mere $6. Presidents and advisors, start talking to your schools and Boards Of Education now about arranging transportation to Fall Rally, since things are difficult to schedule once school starts again in the fall. All officers, start promoting this wonderful event to all of your clubs. And, last not but not least, general members, start getting excited to attend this phenomenal event. If you are having issues arranging transportation for Fall Rally, contact either your Kiwanis Club, who would be glad to help you get transportation to this event, or your Lieutenant Governor, who is equipped with materials that can guide you through any logistical problem you may have in attending Fall Rally.

Do you have a desire to improve your leadership? Do you want to want to make new friends with similar interests as you? What if I told you that both of these will happen in the same weekend? This isn‟t a lie; I‟m talking about Key Leader Weekend! Key Leader is run by Kiwanis International with the mission of providing a “life-changing experience that inspires young people to achieve their personal best through service leadership.” The weekend is designed to kickstart a lifelong process of personal leadership growth and development. The program focuses on leadership in three communities: the local community, the state/national community, and the global community. It is a highly esteemed program in New Jersey and its greatness is directly related to the high remarks of our District on the national level. This year, Key Leader will be held Friday, December 10th through Sunday, December 12th at Camp Lebanon in Lebanon New Jersey. It is open to students grades 9-12 from any town. There are no restrictions on the number of attendees from any school, nor do you have to be a Key Clubber to attend. Registration is $175 for all Key Club members, which includes a $25 grant from the Kiwanis International Foundation, and $200 for any nonmember. Register by October 15th to ensure your spot in the program. Speak to your Lieutenant Governor about how to sign up or if you have any questions – they‟re more than ready to help! See you there!
