Official Newsletter of Division 2 /New Jersey District of Key Club International

Thuyvan’s Tribune Hey There Division 2! Hello everyone! It’s Thuyvan Luu, your newly elected Lieutenant Governor for the 2010-2011 service year. I am currently a junior at Winslow Township High School and I am more than excited to introduce myself in our new official publication! I am a past Key Club President and enjoyed it so much that I was inspired to run to become your new LTG. Outside of Key club, I participate in flied hockey and lacrosse, and various activities such as Student Government and Peer Mediation. So, don’t be afraid to ask me anything because I’m sure we can relate on a level other than Key Club. Are you excited for this service year? Well, I hope you are, but if you aren’t, it’s still early. As your LTG, I hope to increase everyone’s dedication and excitement over the year by providing as many wonderful opportunities for you as I can. At his time, I would like to thank and congratulate

our immediate past Lieutenant Governor, Amanda Parks, for doing such an amazing job. My home club has grown enormously because of her never ending efforts, and I am sure that she had been responsible for the growth of all the clubs in our division. Not only was she the best LTG we could have hoped for, but she was a committed friend and trustworthy role model. However, there is no reason to miss her and her effortless humor because she will always be a part of our family and just a phone call away! Thank you so much Amanda! So, I hope you find this newsletter and all it contains helpful. Please read over all the information in it, for you will find it useful as the end of the school year approaches quickly! If you have any questions, comments, concerns, or you just want to talk, I am always here to listen with open ears! Thuyvan Luu Div. 2 LTG

Down to Business Rosters What is a roster, anyway? A roster is a list of every officer, faculty advisor, and Kiwanis advisor’s contact information. They provide all the information necessary to make a pathway of communication, which is vital in our Division! Communication leads to more opportunities for you to participate in all Divisional activities and events and provides you with all the countless services the district can provide for your club! In short, rosters help me help you, so please help yourself and compile your club’s roster now. Rosters are due Friday, June 4th! Here is what you need to fill out in the attachment I have sent you: position in club, name, full address, cell phone number, home phone number, most often checked email address, grade for the 2010-2011 school year, and gender. Please email me that information at tvluultgdiv2@gmail.com by the due date: Friday, June 4th. Let me know right away if any questions or problems arise!

CMRFs CMRF stands for Club Monthly Report Form and is just one of the numerous Key Club acronyms you will be learning, if you have not already! This is how your Lieutenant Governor finds out what your club has been doing over the last month. It includes information on your meetings, events, and dues. If your club is having trouble, CMRFs will be and useful indicator; do not be ashamed if your club is having difficulties because I will be able to help, based on your CMRF. CMRFs also recognize clubs that are doing well because it will show, so no matter what, CMRFs are necessary. They are due every 10th of the month and should report on the activities that have taken place in the month before. The May CMRF is due on June 10th but can be turned in starting on June 1st. CMRFs should always be sent to your me, Lieutenant Governor (see my contact information), the District Secretary Kevin Sun, our Zone Administrator Matthew Guenther, and your Kiwanis club advisor.

Spring Regional Training Conferences!

Hello everyone! First, I must congratulate you all on your newly elected positions. Clearly you all have demonstrated extraordinary leadership, citizenship, and a passion for service and Key Club! I have faith in all of you and your abilities to help carry out a successful Key Club service year for 2010-2011.

be far away from each other, the RTCs are broken up into three parts: North, Central, and South. There are RTCs held in the Spring and Fall. They take place on Saturdays and Sundays. This year’s RTC theme is “Rock Out with Service!” At the RTCs, you will learn how to amplify your service year, become a rockin’ leader, and let your voices be heard!

LEADERSHIP

The first important step to begin a successful service year begins with being trained. All newly elected officers are required to attend Regional Training Conferences (RTCs) in order to attend sessions which will help better their leadership roles and clarify their duties in their club. We hope to also have your Advisors join us, for a workshop/meeting with Mr. Barrie Werfl, the NJ District Administrator. Also, remember that RTCs are open to general members. Here, at RTCs, you will have the experience to meet the New Jersey District Board and attend workshops which will help you have a better understanding of your position as well as workshops that will help spice up your meetings, stir some new ideas for projects, and a great opportunity to meet new Key Clubbers! Because the board knows that we all hail from different schools that could

CLUB 3

District Convention! The 64th Annual District Convention of the New Jersey District of Key Club International was overflowing with dedicated Key Clubbers all gathering together to travel the world of service from one Service Year to another! From awesome sessions with the 2009-2010 NJ District Board to two amazing dances, there was never a dull moment at the Valley Forge Convention Center for DCON! We arrived on Friday ready to begin our journey through the world of service. Almost 700 Key Clubbers and I had the distinct honor of meeting

our Keynote Speaker Kiwanis International President Paul Palazzolo. It was amazing to see such a high ranking and wise Kiwanian in person. After the welcoming session we all went to caucuses to hear the candidates’ speeches. Each candidate was very creative and excited to be running for an Executive Board position! Saturday was by far the busiest day of the weekend. We woke up early for breakfast and then attended the first general session of the day. After this quick session we headed to our workshops and learned about

SERVICE

International Convention International Convention is right around the corner! Although the deadline for the first payment of $450 is due May 15th, you can still go if you mail in your ICON primer and payment ASAP! ICON is going to be in Memphis, Tennessee this year; we are leaving on July 4th and coming back on July 12th. The trip will be taken by bus, and the week will be jam packed with fun-

everything from how to be an effective club editor to how to belly dance. After the workshops were a few free hours in which the talent show took place. The acts were inspired as they are every year; the amount of talented Key Clubbers is amazing! Also on Saturday, the House of Delegates met to vote on Executive Board races, amendments, and resolutions. On Saturday evening, the contests winners were given their trophies and the outstanding members of the New Jersey District were acknowledged for their hard work and dedication. On Sunday, there was a walk to benefit Children’s Specialized Hospital hosted by our own Brick Memorial High School. The Farewell Session on Sunday is both sad and happy simultaneously; sad because it is the time when the current district board is retired, but happy because it is also the time when the new district board is installed. Your 2010-2011 New Jersey District Board includes: Twenty-one Lieutenant Governors; District Webmaster -Shivam Patel; District Editor-Nicole Darrah; District Treasurer--Devan

filled, exciting experiences you don’t want to miss! We will be going to Cedar Point Amusement Park in Sandusky, Graceland, and the Civil Rights Museum.
