Julia’s Journal Hey Division 5!

In this issue! LTG Introduction ......... 1

My name is Julia Dickhaus and I am currently a junior at Central Regional High School. I am proud to say I am the new Lieutenant Governor for the 2010-2011 Service Year! I absolutely cannot wait to work with each and every one of you as we achieve our common goal of service. As a freshman at Central Regional, I was an active general member in my club, as a sophomore, I became club historian and served as secretary for Division Five’s Children’s Specialized Hospital Committee, and as a junior, I served as co-president of my club. Key Club is my biggest passion and I am thankful that I have the opportunity to share that passion with all of you. Outside of Key Club, I am a team player on my school’s field hockey and basketball varsity teams. I am also a member of National Honor Society, and an editor for my school’s yearbook. I plan to take the skills that I learned from these activities to help Division Five and the New Jersey District succeed. Here are my goals for this service year:  Maintain strong communication with my division and district through emails, phone calls, visits, and our new Division Five website, http://njkcdivision5.webs.com  Build at least one new Key Club in Division Five  Strengthen weak and inactive clubs in my division  Make sure that all clubs in Division Five pay District and International dues on time  Unite the clubs in my division for the same common goal of service  Be successful with many divisional projects, and encourage many projects within the clubs of Division Five I am looking forward to having fun with all of you while working hard to exceed our goals for Children’s Specialized Hospital. With strong communication and teamwork, I am sure that this service year will be a success! Please feel free to contact me at any time with any questions. Yours in Caring and Service,

What’s

going on in Division

Kiwanis/Key Club CSH Walk in Seaside! th

On Saturday, May 12 , Division 5 started out the service year great with a walk on the Seaside Heights Boardwalk for Children’s Specialized Hospital! The walk was held all day from 9 in the morning until 2 in the afternoon. The Division 5 Children’s Specialized Hospital Committee helped organize the walk along with a local Kiwanis Committee. Many Key Clubbers as well as Kiwanians attended to support the hospital. Luckily, the weather held out, and everyone had a lot of fun. A local radio station, WOBM, played music for the workers and volunteers as everyone walked the boards. It was great getting to work with everyone in Division 5, as we put together a successful Divisional fundraiser, the first this service year. Thank you to all of the Key Clubbers and Kiwanians who Volunteered, and a special thanks to everyone who registered to walk! Can’t wait for the next Divisional Event!

International Convention!

That’s right, Division 5, the summer is right around the corner! And with the summer comes Key Club’s annual International Convention, this time in the historic Memphis, Tennessee! This year, Key Club International has put together an amazing Convention, and the District is planning yet another tour to go along with it! ICON is a one week convention that drew over 1500 Key Club members , advisors, and administrators last year. During your time in Memphis, you’ll have the opportunity to meet new people, share Key Club Experiences, and leave with a new best friend. You’ll also get a taste of the various caucuses, workshops, elections, and delegations that make Key Club successful and make you a better Key Clubber. The New Jersey District will travel to Memphis by bus, leaving New Jersey on the morning of July 4th, and returning on the evening of July 12th. On the road to ICON, we will stop at many points of interest, including Cedar Point Amusement Park in Sandusky, Ohio, Graceland, and the Civil Rights Museum. At ICON, the festivities begin with a private concert by Ohio pop-rock superstars Relient K, and continue with appearances by such celebrities as Clay Aiken and Josh Hutcherson! It will truly be a week to remember. Anyone interested in attending, please contact Julia Dickhaus (your LTG) ASAP for more information (including a primer and registration form), as the first payment is due by May 15th. If money is an issue, feel free to ask your Kiwanis Club to help you out with the costs. They would be glad to help! -
