BRANDON JOHNSON — HOST OF RV 2013 WHILE VISITING AMERICA’S LARGEST RV SHOW, WHAT RV FEATURES BLEW YOU AWAY?

BRANDON: Out of the gate I loved that our “Best In Show” by American Heritage’s interior was (and can be) controlled all from an iPad. Everything can be customized with the push of a button. The fact that RV’s are merging with cutting edge technology is a good sign-especially for a families with kids & tweens — they’ll appreciate that Mom and Dad are “hip!” Regarding RV accessories I thought the Tailgator, a portable gas-powered blender, was a fun new device I hadn’t seen before. The Tailgator doesn’t need extension cords or generators, it’s 100% portable & is the ultimate party starter! Everyone wins! ARE YOU PLANNING ON COMING TO NEXT YEAR’S AMERICA’S LARGEST RV SHOW?

BRANDON: Absolutely! As long as I get the invite, I’m there! WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF AMERICA’S LARGEST RV SHOW?

BRANDON: My favorite part of the RV show is meeting and working with the families. They’re always a ton of fun and it feels good be helping them on a very important purchase. A lot of memories are made while traveling all over in a RV. It’s imperative you find the one that truly speaks to you. If I can be of some assistance in that decision, then that’s special. DENA AND BEN ELLIS WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO DOING WITH YOUR RV?

DENA: We look forward to traveling cross-country in an RV with our friends.

ARE THERE ANY “MUST HAVES” FOR YOUR FAMILY WHILE LOOKING FOR AN RV?

DENA: Definitely: A full bathroom, comfortable sleeping quarters, and a great entertainment system for Ben. HOW MUCH DOES IT MEAN TO YOU TO BE ABLE TO TAKE YOUR PET WITH YOU?

DENA: I can’t imagine leaving our dog Carrie behind! She’s part of our family. We want to be able to expose her to new environments, but it is often difficult to find pet-friendly hotels. I would love to take her with us. WHO WAS YOUR INSPIRATION TO GET INTO RVING?

DENA: We wanted to combine our love of travel with the convenience of home. WHAT ITEM WOULD YOU ADD TO YOUR RV?

DENA: A built in luxury pet crate so our pooch would have her own “place.” WHILE VISITING AMERICA’S LARGEST RV SHOW, WHAT RV FEATURES BLEW YOU AWAY?

DENA: The entertainment systems in some of the models blew Ben away; I liked the full queen bed and nice kitchen area. ARE YOU PLANNING ON COMING TO NEXT YEAR’S AMERICA’S LARGEST RV SHOW?

DENA: Yes — we are very excited about it. WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF AMERICA’S LARGEST RV SHOW?

DENA: We loved filming with the crew and the host. We also learned so much about RV’s. The salespeople were so knowledgeable and we were exposed to a new way of travel.

WENDY, TONY, ANNA, ABIGAIL PALESE WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE PART OF RVING?

WENDY: We like spending time with family and friends. It allows us to “get away from it all” and just have fun as a family minus all of the distractions of everyday life! HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN RVING?

WENDY: I’ve been RVing my whole life. I grew up taking family vacations in the camper. When we got married, I convinced my husband to try camping. It took some convincing, but once he tried it, he was hooked too! ARE THERE ANY “MUST HAVES” FOR YOUR FAMILY WHILE LOOKING FOR AN RV?

WENDY: Most of all, we look for space. We need sleeping for 6 so that our daughters can bring friends, a bathroom with plenty of space, and storage – both inside and out. WHAT CONVENIENCE DO YOU LIKE BEST ABOUT RVING?

WENDY: Having the conveniences of home – Your own food, linens, cooking utensils, etc. It’s nice to know that it is all yours! WHO WAS YOUR INSPIRATION TO GET INTO RVING?

WENDY: My parents who taught me how much fun camping can be! WHILE VISITING AMERICA’S LARGEST RV SHOW, WHAT RV FEATURES BLEW YOU AWAY?

WENDY: The attention to detail and the “bells and whistles”…Things like Breakfast Bars/Islands, full wall slide outs, central vacs, and multiple tvs. ARE YOU PLANNING ON COMING TO NEXT YEAR’S AMERICA’S LARGEST RV SHOW?

WENDY: Absolutely! continued on next page

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF AMERICA’S LARGEST RV SHOW?

HOW MUCH DOES IT MEAN TO YOU TO BE ABLE TO TAKE YOUR PET WITH YOU?

WHAT ITEM WOULD YOU ADD TO YOUR RV?

WENDY: We love checking out the new trends in RVs, talking to others about their experiences in the RV world, and most of all having the opportunity to dream big when it comes to RVs!

KATHY: We love to take our dog Pepper with us whenever we can. She is a part of our family. We actually took her size into consideration when we were choosing a dog. We wanted her to fit comfortably with us when we traveled in our truck or Jeep. She has a bed, leash, dog dish, and toys that stay in the camper.

KATHY: We would like to add an outdoor kitchen. It would make the outdoor cooking easier and keep the cooking smells outside the camper. We also want to add power jacks and power awning for an easier setup. If we add a bunkhouse, it will give the boys more personal space.

RICK, KATHY AND ALEC SALAMEDA

(sons Ryan and Eric not pictured) WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE PART OF RVING?

KATHY: We love the family time away from work and housework. We also enjoy the economical sense of camping. It allows us to take more vacations than normal, since we save so much money camping. HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN RVING?

KATHY: We started camping as a family about 6-7 years ago. However, Rick and I both grew up camping with our families and loved it. ARE THERE ANY “MUST HAVES” FOR YOUR FAMILY WHILE LOOKING FOR AN RV?

KATHY: The more experience we have camping and as our family grows, the more our wants have changed. We must have more sleeping space, since our oldest son grew out of our current RV and now wants to bring friends along. Rick wants to have power everything for a quicker setup. I want to have more storage space, so everything can have a place. I don’t want to have to spend time cleaning up, while I could be enjoying time with my family and friends. The boys want a space of their own or a bunkhouse.

6

EXPLORE Pennsylvania | 2013

WHAT CONVENIENCES DO YOU LIKE BEST ABOUT RVING?

KATHY: We love that if you can drive there, you can camp there. We love that when we camp, we are staying in our own beds with our own sheets. It is our own space. It is our second home or our vacation home on wheels. We always say we camp, but we don’t rough it. We also like meeting so many other people that enjoy and share our lifestyle. There is a feeling of community and old school freedom that comes with camping. The boys can have more independence and can explore without my worrying. It is different from being at home. WHO WAS YOUR INSPIRATION TO GET INTO RVING?

KATHY: My grandparents inspired me to camp with my family. When I was a little girl, I would look forward to camping with my grandparents. They would travel with a caravan of other campers and they all seemed like one big extended family. Those people were life long friends with my grandparents. I also grew up tent camping with my mother and brother. My mom was a single mother and it was one of the few ways we could afford a vacation. I enjoyed camping with my family in the tent, but I definitely preferred the RV. It was more of a home.

DID YOU PURCHASE ANYTHING AT AMERICA’S LARGEST RV SHOW?

KATHY: We went to the RV Show with the intent to purchase a new RV and we did. We ordered a 2013 Coachman Freedom Express Liberty Edition 320BHDS. WHILE VISITING AMERICA’S LARGEST RV SHOW, WHAT RV FEATURES BLEW YOU AWAY?

KATHY: There was a camper that was all technology driven and had an app that could control almost everything. We were surprised to see a camper with a hall closet and kitchen island. The front panoramic window in one camper was unbelievable. One of the fifth wheels had a moveable island, which we had never seen before. Several campers had huge bathrooms one even had a sunken bathtub. One of the toy haulers had what we called a party patio. ARE YOU PLANNING ON COMING TO NEXT YEAR’S AMERICA’S LARGEST RV SHOW?

KATHY: We do plan to attend next year’s show, but are afraid we will get camper envy with the new features that will be out next year. WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF AMERICA’S LARGEST RV SHOW?

KATHY: We like seeing the variety of campers and all the latest features. We get an opportunity to see all the different types and price ranges of RVs available all in one location.

Tastier Travels

acations are a time to let loose, but that doesn’t have to mean your belt (or your wallet). It’s healthy, affordable and delicious to feast on farm-fresh fruits, vegetables and other local specialties when you travel with everything you need plus the kitchen sink, RVstyle. You’ll find the pick of the crop at farmer’s markets and pick-your-own-produce fields abounding in Pennsylvania.

markets are retail outlets for farms that have been in families for generations. More than likely, a family member will be there to assist you, offer tips on fruit and vegetable storage and preparation and answer questions about the area’s attractions and heritage. Some offer hayrides, farm tours, farm animals for the little ones to pet, and even special events like concerts and festivals.

Eating healthy is a challenge in airport terminals, hotels and restaurants. Menu choices are limited, and often expensive. But for RVers, making good (and good-for-you) decisions about family meals and snacks is easy and affordable. With ample power and space on board, food can be kept fresh and safe in convenient pantries, cabinets, refrigerators and freezers. Ranges and microwave/convection ovens make it fun to prepare family favorites or experiment with local specialties. If you’re really into cooking, you can bring along your own chef’s knives and gadgets, food processors, blenders and other kitchen conveniences. Try taking those through airport security!

At harvest times, you’ll often find opportunities to pick your own produce — a fun way to get exercise and show kids where their food comes from. The whole family will appreciate that fresh-from-the-field taste. Even finicky eaters will want to try the veggies they picked for dinner at the campground.

NOT YOUR AVERAGE GROCERY STORE

Stopping at farmer’s markets along your route is not only a great way to stock up on fresh, local produce (plus ciders, cheeses, jams, jellies and syrups), it’s also a fun activity! Many

To find out what’s in season, be sure to visit the farm market’s website or Facebook page. Many post lists of featured crops, harvest dates and even old family recipes. Call ahead to ask what’s going to be available to pick or purchase when you arrive and check hours of operation. Farm markets typically have plentiful RV parking, but ask first if you’re traveling in a very big rig. The proof is in the pudding (or home-baked local fruit pie): RVing is the way to tastier travels. by Gary Bunzer, The RV Doctor

before you buy that

RV

It’s easy to choose a hat, right? You like the style, you like the color and it fits correctly; it’s a nobrainer! But choosing an RV can be one of the most daunting and difficult of tasks, especially for the novice or uninitiated enthusiast. What follows are a few items to consider before making that definitive jump to RV ownership. The learning curve can be shortened drastically by taking the following into consideration before you sign on that dotted line. TYPE RVs come in two basic types, motorized and towable. Motorized RVs include all the motorhomes (Class A, B and C) while towables are the travel trailers, fifth-wheel trailers, folding camping trailers, hybrids and slide-in pickup campers. Utility-type RVs can be either motorized or towable. You’ll have to decide which type you would prefer. There are benefits to each. BUDGET RVs cost real money, so be sure to stay within your budget. Realize that used RVs can be purchased at a steep discount…especially during an economic recession and recovery. A CCO U T R E M E N T S Evaluate your family’s needs and wants. How many people will be using the RV? If you’re a couple with three or four kids, perhaps that 8-foot pickup camper is not such a good idea.

YO U G E T T H E I D E A ! SLIDEOUTS — Just about every RV now comes equipped with multiple slideouts; rooms that extend out from the RV when set up. For travel, they retract into the main body of the RV. Slideouts can add substantially to the usable square footage inside. RVs without slideouts may lower the resale or trade-in value when you decide to move up to a larger or better-equipped rig. SIZE/WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS — RVs come in many shapes and sizes. The larger units may difficult to maneuver in some older campgrounds. If you are interested in a towable, don’t forget you’ll need a tow vehicle. Tow vehicles must be matched correctly to the RV. If you already own a pickup or SUV, you may already have a suitable tow vehicle. BRAND — Not all RVs are created equal. Varying retail price points exist for virtually every potential RV enthusiast. Build quality, accessory sophistication and overall curb appeal will go up as the price point increases. CONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUES — There is a broad range of construction methods employed. Construction materials include: steel, aluminum or wooden structural members, soft sidewalls, laminated sidewalls and varying composites of roof surfaces. They all have their pros and cons, periodic maintenance schedules and refinements, so be sure to ask the dealer lots of questions.

research & homework Photo courtesy of GoRVing.com

RVs come in all different shapes and sizes. Think about your family’s wants and needs before you buy. Be sure to do your homework before you buy. Here are some suggestions for gaining knowledge before making a commitment: • RV SHOWS – They seem to be almost everywhere, somewhere every weekend across Pennsylvania; Philadelphia, Allentown, Erie, Pittsburgh, York, and the granddaddy of them all, America’s Largest RV Show in Hershey. RV shows provide an opportunity to inspect many different types and brands of RVs at the same time. • NEIGHBORS, FAMILY & FRIENDS – I’d make a wager that every reader knows at least one RVing family. Be sure to get their input as well. RVers are typically quick to point out the good in their coaches; as well as the not-sogood. Take it all in and file it away. • CAMPGROUNDS – Try to visit a few campgrounds in your area. Ask the RVers staying there, how they like their particular RV. • WEB RESEARCH – There are tons of RV sites on the Internet. Many are very good and some are not. Use this resource carefully. Most RV dealers and manufacturers will have a site so it’s possible to compare inventory, floor plans, factory videos, etc. • RV BUYER’S GUIDES – There are many buyers’ guides published in book form. Check your local library or online. • RVIA SEAL – Over 90% of RV manufacturers belong to the RV Industry Association, the governing body of the industry. All approved manufacturers will have a “seal of approval” from RVIA prominently displayed beside the entry door. • PRVCA & RVDA – The Pennsylvania Recreation Vehicle and Camping Association and the Recreation Vehicle Dealers Association monitor their membership closely. I recommend buying a new vehicle only from a member of PRVCA and RVDA. • CONSIDER RENTING ONE FOR THE WEEKEND – Let Google do the walking!

Don’t forget to consider your storage needs when selecting your RV. Photo courtesy of RVIA.org

• AVOID IMPULSE BUYS – Always give it serious thought and revisit your needs to make sure that RV of your dreams indeed fits your requirements. Don’t be pressured into buying that unit while “in the moment.” The euphoria of looking at new RVs is intoxicating! And remember, RVing is more than a hobby, it’s a lifestyle! 2013 | EXPLORE Pennsylvania

DESTINATION fun!

by Christine Morrison

i

t’s getting cold — wish you could head south for the season? The kids are out of school — wish you could spend more weekends by the water?

For weekends or weeks on end, a growing number of savvy travelers have discovered that they can escape to their own personal leisure retreat: a recreation vehicle or recreational park trailer situated at the campground of their choice. They’re called “seasonal” or “destination” campers, and they put a long-term twist on traditional RV road trips by renting a site at a favorite RV park or resort for several weeks, a month or even a full season. Every weekend, vacation or change in seasons can become an opportunity to head for the campground to enjoy outdoor fun and the comfort of their own home-away-from-home on wheels. Close to a fifth of RV owners consider themselves to be seasonal campers who leave their RVs at a special destination — often close to home — for an extended period. These migratory campers enjoy the same advantages as more freewheeling traditional RVers, and then some:

12

EXPLORE Pennsylvania | 2013

THE SEASONAL RV CAMPING ADVANTAGE

• Not only do seasonal campers save on vacation lodgings and meals, they also reduce driving expenses by leaving their RV at their chosen destination. • Like other RV owners, seasonal RVers enjoy potential tax benefits. Interest on RV and recreational park trailer loans is generally deductible as second home mortgage interest. • Like all RVers, seasonal campers avoid airport lines, security restrictions, flight cancellations and lost luggage. They enjoy the convenience of storing gear, groceries and clothing for the season – no packing and unpacking required. And they have a place of their own to stay whenever they want, without the hassle of advance planning. CAMPING FOR ALL SEASONS

Part of the fun of being a destination camper is choosing your campground destination – sometimes a different one for different seasons! In the summer, you might want to rent a site on a lakefront, close to the shore or in the mountain air. In autumn, woodland RV parks may beckon

with opportunities for leaf-peeping, brisk hikes and cozy campfires. Spring could draw you to an RV park near a golf course or two. In the winter, you might become a “snowbird,” spending the season at a Sunbelt RV resort. No matter what the season, campgrounds are inviting destinations, with activities for

every member of the family. With so many RV parks to choose from, anglers, boaters, golfers, tennis players, hikers, bikers, antiquers and foodies can readily find a destination to pursue their passion all season. From swimming pools, fishing ponds, mini golf and game rooms to lakes with canoes, outdoor movies, weekend entertainment and even spa

services, there’s lots to do right at the campground, too. RV campgrounds are known for their friendliness and community feel – and for seasonal campers, forging lasting friendships with campsite neighbors is part of the appeal. No wonder campgrounds have been called “the last small towns in America.”

CHOOSING

your

RV RETREAT Seasonal campers have lots of options when it comes to their lodgings, depending on family size, travel preferences, budget and tastes. • Any traditional RV — towable or motorized — can be left set up at a seasonal campsite for repeat visits. Owners of towable RVs can use their car, truck or SUV to “commute” back and forth to the campground and for local side trips. Owners of motorhomes can tow a small “dinghy car” for local transportation. • If you’d like to buy an RV and don’t have a suitable tow vehicle (or dinghy car), RV dealers will deliver your new unit right to the campground for setup. • A recreational park trailer — wider and less mobile than an RV but also designed to be temporary living quarters — can be set up at an RV park or resort offering extended leases. Transportable by professionals, these seasonal units are often designed with a peaked roof, gabled windows, built-in porches, decks or storage areas. They can look like tiny cottages or slightly longer travel trailers. • A growing number of RV parks and campgrounds now offer RVs and/or park trailers to rent onsite. This is a great way to try before you buy. RVs and park trailers alike offer power and plumbing, appliances, carpeting, furniture, and just about every home-like amenity — the difference is in the size and scope. For seasonal campers, roomier digs with room for extended family and friends are often preferred! Visit a dealer to see the myriad sizes, shapes, models and floor plans available — they’re listed in the directory starting on page 20. From rustic retreats to condos on wheels, there’s an RV or park trailer to make your travel dreams come true.

Once you’ve become acquainted with the RV community, it’s time to focus on yourself. Determining what kind of travel and camping experiences you’d prefer and how you’d use your RV are essential to a wise purchase decision. Questions to consider include: • Do you plan to use your RV as a base camp for a favorite pastime or hobby? Fishing, shopping, boating, golf, photography, biking, ATVs – whatever your passion, an RV can help you pursue it. Certain models have features that support specific uses. • Do you envision extended trips, lots of mini-vacations or a combination? • Do you have a vehicle capable of towing an RV? • How many will sleep in your RV? Don’t forget friends and grand-kids. And you’ll never need to leave your pets behind. They’re part of the family too! • Do you enjoy tailgating at sports events like NASCAR games, college football, etc.? • Do you enjoy the feel of camping outdoors without roughing it? Keeping your responses in mind, head back to GoRVing. com for a comprehensive review of the RV market. Under Explore RVs, you’ll find a primer of the nine RV types available (see sidebar), towable and motorized. Try before you buy! Rent an RV.

An RV is a long-term investment, and renting is a great way to ensure a good fit. There are over 450 rental outlets nationwide, offering state of the art, late model units. Most rental RVs are motorhomes, ranging from mini to mega in size. But if you’d like to try towing and have a car, SUV or truck with the proper tow capacity and the right hitch, you can find folding camping trailers, travel trailers and even sport-utility RVs with rear “garages” for transporting motorcycles, ATVs and the like. Search for RV rental dealers on prvca.org, under “Rentals.” Rent an RV for a mini-vacation or special event, and you’ll arrive in style. Even if you’re a first timer, familiar features like automatic transmissions, power brakes and power steering help newcomers adjust to the different size, height and weight. Your rental dealer will provide a thorough orientation. Or, you might prefer to rent an RV right at your destination, and fly or drive there. Many campgrounds now offer RVs or park trailers for rent. Dealers offer housekeeping packages with all the basics for cooking, eating and sleeping.

ust about every person in Pennsylvania who has, or even knows anyone with children, is aware of the fun times families can enjoy at the World Famous Hersheypark, nestled in the rolling hills of Derry Township of Dauphin County in the southeastern corner of the state. What many may not be aware of, is that right across the parking lot, in and around the Giant Center, America’s Largest RV Show is held every September. Produced by the Pennsylvania RV & Camping Association, America’s Largest RV Show is the first show of the season each year to display the newest offerings from RV manufacturers. With over 1,100 brand new recreation vehicles, covering over 1.3 million square feet, it’s the perfect venue for anyone interested in RVing, whether they are seeking their first RV, an opportunity to trade up, or just to see what new, innovative features can be found on some amazing RVs. The popularity of America’s Largest RV Show and the sheer numbers available prompts the HGTV

18

EXPLORE Pennsylvania | 2013

Network to record its annual, award-winning RV television show each year during the Hershey event with broadcasts beginning each January.

So what makes America’s Largest RV Show such a fun event, one that families come from near and far to attend? First of all, September is a great time of the year to visit Dauphin County. Usually blessed with decent weather, neither too hot nor too chilly, early fall makes it quite comfortable to casually examine the plethora of RVs on display at your own pace. The 2012 event was held during one of those rare weeks where temperature and humidity levels were absolutely perfect throughout the entire run of the seven-day event. While the show is open to the public for five consecutive days, the first two days are reserved for RV industry personnel only. As mentioned, coachbuilders send their latest creations for the buying public to get a “first-look” at the new model year,

months before they might appear on a local RV dealer’s sales lot. And deals are handled on-site, with dealer representation, so buyers know exactly whom they’re buying from. In many cases, high-ranking personnel from the factories are on hand to answer questions from prospective buyers. This access to the uppermost rung of the ladder is unprecedented. Rarely, if ever, will you find the CEO of a major RV manufacturer roaming the display area at a retail RV show. Not so at America’s Largest RV Show! Some, like Bob Tiffin of Tiffin Motorhomes, were seen personally taking notes as current and potential customers asked questions or proffered suggestions for new features they’d like to see on a motorhome. Every type of recreation vehicle; Class A, B and C motorhomes, conventional travel trailers, fifth-wheel trailers, park models, hybrids, toy haulers and oneoff custom coaches, can all be viewed at America’s Largest RV Show. Whether your family is simply into tailgating parties at football games and maybe an annual two-week vacation, or interested in extended road trips across the country, or perhaps

considering joining the full-time ranks, there’s an RV for every family, at every price point, featured at the show. And many dealers offer “Show Special” pricing when you buy at America’s Largest RV Show. There is no better place to “try on” an RV to see if it “fits” your family. Besides the lure of neighboring Hersheypark and Chocolate World, it’s not uncommon to see families with kids in tow, perusing the usability features of a floor plan that caught their attention. Roaming clowns, balloons and food vendors simply add to the excitement. Having the kids involved just might bring a fresh perspective, beyond the design concept and aesthetic value of a given RV. They’re likely to point out features that genuinely appeal to them; something perhaps the parents hadn’t even considered. America’s Largest RV Show also features an indoor exhibit area inside the Giant Center filled with a myriad of campground exhibits, RV suppliers and makers of all types of RVing and camping equipment. A large accessory store is set up inside the arena so all attendees can actually shop for supplies while at the show. Multiple seminar rooms feature informative and educational presentations all day long. So after spending a few hours perusing the outside RVs, attendees come inside to either be entertained or educated by an assortment of award-winning RV experts covering a variety of topics; from safety-related issues, to RV preventive maintenance, to lifestyle and traveling tips. The educational advantage at America’s Largest RV Show is second to none. So if you have any interest in any aspect of RVing, you owe it to yourself and your family to join another 45,000 enthusiasts and visit the premiere consumer RVing event of the year, America’s Largest RV Show next September! 2013 | EXPLORE Pennsylvania

ho doesn’t need a break from stress? The pressures and pace of daily living make R&R a must, but planning and paying for regular get-aways can be an obstacle. High hotel and restaurant costs, airport hassles, packing and unpacking — who needs it? When you own an RV, your transportation and accommodations are all rolled up in one convenient, economical package. In a 2012 owner survey by Recreation Vehicle Industry Association, taking frequent mini-vacations, bonding with loved ones and escaping from stress were identified as top reasons to have an RV. Threefourths of RVers surveyed planned to take more minivacations in Summer 2012 and 89 percent reported saving on RV vacations compared to other trips, even when fuel prices rise. With an RV, you can head for the highway on the spur of the moment. You avoid the hassles of flying and gain the comforts of home on the road. Plus, vacation cost comparison studies have repeatedly shown that RV travel costs less — even including the costs of RV ownership — for families and couples. Depending on the type of RV you own and the type of campground you choose (rustic or resort), the savings can be significant. Check out the relative costs of taking three-day RV trips, staying at campgrounds and preparing most meals there, vs. driving or flying, staying in hotels and eating in restaurants. Then start planning more getaways, RV-style!

A couple can take an upscale trip in a Type A motorhome to an RV resort for a fraction of the cost of flying and staying in a luxury hotel — even factoring in the costs of RV ownership.

FAMILY-STYLE OR FIRST-CLASS, RV TRAVEL COSTS LESS. OWNING AN RV MIGHT JUST BE YOUR TICKET TO GETTING AWAY FROM IT ALL MORE OFTEN.
