Helpful advice to keep your plants alive

Watering

Normally, depending on species and size, an indoor plant should be watered on a weekly basis with one half-cup to a full cup of water. Remember that plants have different watering requirements, so it's important to research the specific needs of your plants. Generally, you should water your plants when the top inch of soil is dry.

Light

Most house plants need bright, indirect light to thrive. Place your plants near a window where they can get plenty of sunlight, but avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch their leaves.

Humidity

Many house plants come from humid environments, so it's important to maintain a level of humidity in your home. You can use a humidifier or place a tray of water near your plants to increase humidity.

Repotting

When your plants outgrow their pots, it's time to repot them. Choose a pot that is slightly larger than the current one, with good drainage. Repotting also gives you the opportunity to refresh the soil and remove any dead roots.

Avocado Tartine

The word 'tartine' is just a fancy name for an open-faced sandwich that can be served any time of day. While it only takes five to ten minutes to make this quick and easy dish, it is healthy and guaranteed to leave your tastebuds satisfied.

What you need

– Two 1 inch slices of seven-grain bread (or your choice of rustic bread)

1 large ripe avocado, halved, pitted, and peeled

Chilis

Lemon juice

– 1 radish, sliced

– 1 scallion, diced

Salt and pepper, to taste

Olive oil, for drizzling

Directions

Toast the bread to your desired state of crunchiness.

– On a plate or cutting board, mash the avocado together with a bit of lemon juice and chili (to your preference), and then spread it onto the toast.

Lay the thinly sliced radishes and scallions on top of the avocado mash.

Add salt, pepper, and olive oil to taste.
