After winning praise for its recent transgender story, The Bold and The Beautiful is searching for an actor to play a new character called Christian, who is bisexual. According to the casting breakdown for the character, Christian is a “sophisticated professional who has great fashion sense and an even greater sense of humour. He is also attracted to both guys and girls”. At press time, there’s no word on which characters Christian will be paired with or when he’ll debut on screens.

Offspring
✽
to return!
Network Ten’s drama Offspring will return for a sixth series. Although the show’s fate looked uncertain when the show’s writer JOHN EDWARDS said it “has run its race in five series”, viewers began a concerted effort to have it return. Ten’s chief programming officer BEVERLEY MCGARVEY has also wanted the popular series back on air. She had previously indicated that the fact that filming had to cease after the show’s 65th episode, due to the ending of government tax rebates for the production, wouldn’t be an obstacle to the show’s continuation even though future series could cost 30 per cent more to produce. Now it appears that a final obstacle to Offspring’s return has also been cleared. The merger between production companies Endemol and Shine is due to be completed in the coming months and it’s rumoured that Offspring will go into pre-production before the end of the year, which could mean it will be back on air in 2016.

Days Of Our Lives has finally concluded its overhaul of its younger characters and unveiled the new cast members who’ll play the younger members of some of Salem’s prominent families. In addition to the previouslyannounced JAMES LASTOVIC, who’s already being seen as Steve and Kayla’s teenage son Joey Johnson and OLIVIA ROSE KEEGAN, who’ll debut as Shawn and Belle’s daughter Claire Brady in late November, daytime newcomer VIVIAN JOVANNI has been cast as Ciara Brady, Bo and Hope’s daughter. Jovanni will debut in late October, alongside JONATHAN MCCLENDON, who’ll play the grown-up Chase Jennings, Aiden’s son. Finally, from early November, KYLER PETTIS will assume the role of Abe’s son, Theo Carver.
PATTY’S BACK
Former Y&R star STACY HAIDUK is returning to play Paul’s mentally unstable sister Patty Williams. At the time of going to press, more details surrounding Patty’s return haven’t been released. Haiduk and Patty were last seen in 2012 when Patty was in Fairview Sanitarium.
Wilson on the way out?
Rumours are rife that GUY WILSON (Will) will be the next Days Of Our Lives star to leave the veteran soap. Wilson has been posting cryptic tweets about his status on the show for the past several months and hasn’t been spotted on set lately. In addition, a photo of the soap’s current cast list has appeared online and Wilson’s name isn’t on it. However, the speculation about his future is yet to be officially confirmed or denied.
VICTOR’S MYSTERY CHILD Strong speculation is around that Y&R’s Victor
ERIC
Newman (ERIC BRAEDEN) may have another child. ALICE GRECZYN, well-known for her role of Mads on The Lying Game (here on FOX8) is joining the soap in upcoming episodes to play a character that may very well be revealed as GLADIS Emma, a child Victor fathered with his brief lover Ramona Caceres (GLADIS JIMINEZ) in the late 1990s/early 2000s. Storyline tidbits are suggesting that Emma will be working at Genoa City Memorial Hospital and will also be searching for her long-lost father, one of GC’s most powerful people, who has no idea she exists.
SWEENEY
QUITS LOSER
✽
Days Of Our Lives star ALISON SWEENEY (Sami) who’s returning to the soap for its 50th anniversary in November, is leaving her role as host of the US version of The Biggest Loser (a new series of the local version, TBL Families, currently airs on Network Ten). At press time, a new host for the US show’s 17th season hasn’t been announced. Sweeney joined the series in 2007.
Y&R’s new ‘charismatic’ character
The Young And The Restless has cast MILES GASTON VILLANUEVA in the new role of Luca Santori, an individual who’s described as “strong-willed, confident and charismatic”. Interestingly, this isn’t Villanueva’s first role on Y&R. In 2013, he played Father Martin who helped to assist Paul and Nikki with the search for Nikki’s long-lost child in Canada. The actor will debut as Luca in episodes to screen in the US this month and early next year in Australia. ➜ SW 5

After hearing her brother plead with her to stay quiet because he doesn’t want to lose another sister like they did when Phoebe (ex-Mackenzie Mauzy) died, Steffy resolves to keep silent, even though another potential threat to her freedom is watching her every move. Armed with video footage of the fight that left Aly lying dead, her head smashed against a rock, Ivy (Ashleigh Brewer) pledges to Wyatt (Darin Brooks) that she won’t rest until she sees Steffy punished for what she believes is a clear case of murder. She also stresses that intention to an upset Thomas who’s heard from Steffy about her insinuations and warns Ivy to be careful not to hurt his sister. But Ivy isn’t listening as she plays the video for Thomas and threatens to give it to the police for the whole world to see. Ivy’s quest for justice strengthens when Aly appears to her in a dream urging her to have Steffy prosecuted for murdering her. As she searches for more information to strengthen her case, she hints to a supportive Wyatt that she wants payback for defending Aly and bringing Steffy down. Reminding Wyatt
that Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) is currently expanding Forrester Creations’ fashion horizons, Ivy announces to him that she wants to be appointed the new face of Forrester Creations because “these people need to know they can’t have everything”. When Thomas later confronts her demanding that she delete the damaging footage against Steffy, Ivy plays her trump card, she’ll get rid of it if Thomas makes sure she is the company’s new spokesmodel. Thomas is in disbelief over her blackmail bid and cautions that it won’t work but a determined Ivy pitches to Ridge for the position during a meeting to choose the perfect person. He’s in no mood for debate because Steffy is his preferred candidate but when Wyatt speaks on Ivy’s behalf she’s emboldened to lay her cards on the table, hinting that if Steffy is appointed, other information could emerge that could publicly savage Forrester Creations’ reputation. Steffy is outraged when Thomas also supports Ivy but is shaken when Thomas reveals Ivy’s intentions to prove she murdered Aly. Refusing to allow her cousin to blackmail her, Steffy forces Wyatt to delete the video but when Ivy wrecks his opportunity, an anxious Steffy frets about the potential consequences. Steffy is further petrified when Lt Baker (Dan Martin) questions

Ivy can either delete the

That makes Steph’s decision to return to Erinsborough now she’s been released all the more mysterious. However, Steph (Carla Bonner) quickly ingratiates herself back into her old haunts when she applies for a new position being offered at Fitzgerald Motors, her former workplace. Acutely aware of the circumstances surrounding Steph’s two stints in prison, Karl worriedly questions Steph’s reasons for returning, wondering if she plans on causing more havoc. Despite Steph’s pleas that she’s still undergoing treatment for her problems and is progressing well, Karl disbelieves her claim that she simply wants to return home, rebuild her life and atone for her past mistakes. While Steph receives a more favourable welcome from ex-husband and friend Toadie (Ryan Moloney), Tyler crushes her hopes for a bright future when he reports that Lucas (Scott Major), who has re-purchased the garage, is returning to town to confront her about coming back to the scene of his son Patrick’s abduction and to ensure that she never works at his business again. As Lucas sets eyes on Steph for the first time in two years, he’s hell-bent on carrying out his intentions, even unwilling to listen to Steph’s pleas that she was sick when she kidnapped Patrick. When Toadie argues that Steph shouldn’t be held responsible for something she did during a psychotic episode, he incurs opposition from a frightened Sonya (Eve Morey) who’s anxious at the thought of Steph possibly becoming obsessed with Nell (Scarlet Anderson). Although Sonya protests Steph staying in town, Lucas agrees to give her a job on the strict condition that Toadie vouches for her actions and behaviour. However, that narrow win only antagonises other enemies against Steph as she starts her first day of work. She soon encounters heated attacks from Kyle (Chris Milligan) and Paul (Stefan Dennis) who warn her not to exploit Amy’s friendliness to get closer to Jimmy (Darcy Tadich). When Paul viciously rips into her, hissing that she’ll never be forgiven for her past actions and to stay away from his family, Steph is emotionally bereft, her intentions remaining unclear as she possibly plots to avenge everyone’s harsh treatment of her.SW

From the moment she appears on the doorstep, Piper is aware that she’s returning to a family that’s entirely different to the one she left behind. Immediately plunged into the middle of her parents’ freshlyshattered marriage, Piper (Mavournee Hazel) struggles to understand what has gone wrong and is anxious to meet Lauren (Kate Kendall) the other woman in Brad’s (Kip Gamblin) life. Although she has a pleasant introductory meeting with half-sister Paige (Olympia Valance), Piper’s mind remains a confusing whirlwind of emotions. It’s a situation that’s unlikely to be remedied anytime soon when Piper clashes with Imogen (Ariel Kaplan) over Imogen’s controversial involvement in Josh’s (Harley Bonner) recent drug-selling exploits, a conundrum that has again exploded with serious consequences for Josh. When Piper angrily accuses Imogen of being a “self-absorbed, bad sister,” Imogen is shocked by the harsh character assessment. Daniel’s

Pressuring Piper and Josh into agreeing not to visit Brad under Lauren’s roof, Imogen is outraged to find Piper at the Turner house, having broken the pact. A fierce war of words erupts in the middle of Ramsay Street as Imogen slams Piper’s disloyalty and Lauren’s bid to intervene worsens the situation. Paige adds to the drama when she arranges a family meal for Brad and his kids at Lauren’s house leaving Piper and Imogen torn about whether to attend. With the family friction showing no signs of abating, Brad’s decision to stay at Lauren’s causes tensions to explode. While Piper locks herself in her bedroom and Imogen and Josh separate themselves from the fallout, a miserable Terese’s (Rebekah Elmaloglou) violent reaction to the news devastates Piper. George Turner IS SOON QUESTIONING HIS IMPULSIVE DECISION TO TAKE HIS FAMILY AND EMIGRATE TO NEW ZEALAND
move Life is full of surprises after widower George moves his family to NZ.
Arlo Turner
S
ydney newspaper columnist George Turner has a nearly perfect life, his major concern being that he adheres to exactly 800 words for his weekly columns. But the recent death of his wife Laura has shattered his world. Now the Turner family, wracked with grief, is falling apart. George’s (Erik Thomson) teenage children Shay (Melina Vidler) and Arlo (Benson Jack Anthony) are struggling with their loss and are withdrawing from everything around them. Desperate to save his family, George impulsively buys a house, sight unseen, in the tiny beachside community of Weld in New Zealand, a place he used to holiday as a child. George believes a complete change of circumstances is what the Turners’ need to rebuild their lives. So they must move. Despite his editor Jan’s (Bridie Carter) attempts to convince him to abandon the rash idea, George uproots his kids and his life and heads for Weld. It’s a decision that immediately backfires when George and the kids get caught in a car crash

involving a runaway sculpture. When they discover the dream home is a dilapidated, halfrenovated beach shack lacking basic modern conveniences like an actual kitchen, it’s all Shay needs to declare she wants to go home. But with no phone reception, she finds herself with slim chance of a way out. When more mishaps befall the family, George is left despairing he’s made a mistake, a feeling compounded when he almost drowns surfing. Fortunately, he’s rescued by fellow surfer Woody (Rick Donald) who gives him the impetus to stick around and make a new life for his family. However, George’s renewed vigour for life in Weld is tested when it becomes apparent Woody may be more of a hindrance than a help. To make matters worse, the Turner family is now the talk of the town, inspiring and intriguing four local ladies to roll out the welcome mat for the handsome widower. Overwhelmed by the attention, George has no idea these women plan on being important players in his life as they try to win his affections.
Who’s
who in Weld: THE TURNER FAMILY
George Turner
(Erik Thomson) Likable and funloving, George is a devoted family man whose children are his life. He’s also built a strong fan base with his laid-back weekly newspaper columns. When George’s life is shattered, he makes an illogical decision that completely changes his future.
Shay Turner
(Melina Vidler) Seventeen-year-old Shay is figuring out who she is and all she knows is she has an inclination and talent to be an artist. Since her mother’s death, Shay has battled to become the woman of the house while shutting down her intense grief. When the NZ move occurs, unhappy Shay edges towards a breakdown.
(Benson Jack Anthony) Intelligent and quirky, Arlo is perceived as strange and has no friends as a result. He finds comfort exploring books and the Internet, developing a wisdom and sensitivity beyond his years. He’s dealt with his mum’s death quietly but his solitude could cause problems.
FRIENDS & ACQUAINTANCES
Jan (Bridie Carter)
A close friend of the deceased Laura Turner, Jan is the editor where George works in Sydney. Since Laura’s death, Jan has been George’s best friend and although unhappy about his move she becomes the link between the Trans-Tasman worlds in George’s life.
Woody (Rick Donald)
A surfer, builder, philosopher, party animal and easygoing friend, Woody believes he’s found paradise in Weld, which perfectly suits his carefree lifestyle. He’s quick to befriend George but does stupid things.
Ike (Alex Tarrant)
The black sheep of Weld, Ike is a technological wizard who’s the brains behind his father’s IT business but he’s also a

For the Ivin, Faraday and Ballantyne families, love can be a saviour yet it can also be a destroyer. While their love is a symbol of family, fidelity and commitment it is also poisoned by seduction, commitment, jealousy, obligation and mad, unadulterated passion. Tennis champion Anna Ivin may have retired from her sport years ago but she’s soon faced with a new battle when she’s forced to save her brother’s decaying marriage following the discovery of infidelity. However, Anna’s efforts to assist the situation become complicated by her own illicit and helpless passion for a man who is not her husband. While Anna and her new lover’s relationship proves all-consuming its eventual breakdown results in hysteria and obsession that sparks a fatal series of events.

WHO ARE THE BEAUTIFUL LIARS?
Katie (Anna Jullienne)
Local artist and owner of the arts and crafts gallery, Katie takes pride in Maori heritage and tirelessly fights for the locals’ rights. A single mum, her son is the same age as Arlo.

KITTY
ANNA IVIN (Sarah Snook) A professional tennis player from age 16, Anna Faraday has lived a life of stellar, globe-trotting success which was solidified by her marriage to grand slam champion Alexander Ivin, making them Australia’s celebrity “it” couple. Now retired, Anna is a deeply dedicated and committed wife and mother to the pair’s young son Kasper. But her domestic happiness is suddenly shattered when she meets Skeet who enlivens her repressed spontaneity and fearlessness. They become lovers and as Anna risks everything for Skeet her world changes. ALEXANDER ‘XANDER’ IVIN
(Rodger Corser) Capable, ambitious and confident, Xander is a national sporting hero who may love tennis and his countless trophies more than anything else. He can be charming,
funny and handsome but in treating his wife like a trophy he soon discovers the paralysing pitfalls of taking love for granted.
SKEET DU PONT
(Benedict Samuel) A relentless party boy, Skeet lives wholly and solely in the present, with zero interest in the past or the future. His greatest love is music and he’s obsessive with it, until he meets Anna who turns his world upside down.
TESS (Catherine McClements)
Skeet’s mother was relieved when she was widowed by her husband’s death. It freed her from their nightmarish marriage – and his ugly furniture choices – and allowed her passion for ➜

Perceived as socially awkward and difficult, when Peter’s hidden passions are aroused, they often cause him to be swamped by a vicious cycle of self-loathing and regret. Could his passion for Kitty have the same damaging affect? NICK LEVIN (Dan Wyllie) Having squandered his wealth as a famous author, Nick is now consumed by a string of addictions and he’s desperate for a slice of his family’s inheritance. He hates feeling controlled and when he lashes out, his brother Peter is his target. CATHERINE BALLANTYNE

n the wake of George’s shocking shooting in the paddocks surrounding the Bligh family homestead, devastation abounds as Elizabeth, Carolyn and James rush to be at his bedside while he undergoes life-saving medical treatment. While Regina (Jenni Baird) is also petrified about George’s (Brett Climo) injuries and his chances of survival, her main concern is covering up her pivotal role in the incident. Taking advantage of the fact that Sarah (Marta Dusseldorp) was on the scene while Rene (Ben Winspear) was also there with a loaded gun, Regina wastes little time wickedly twisting her version of events for the

police’s ears in the hope she can manipulate the situation against her love rival Sarah. Although Sarah’s future is clouded, George’s survival is cause for joy until he announces to the family his intentions to run for political office. While he’s supported in his decision, the identity of one of his major campaign donors raises Elizabeth’s (Noni Hazlehurst) suspicions,
thanks to the knowledge that he’s connected to Regina. When Elizabeth mentions her concerns to her son, George rebukes his mother’s perceived troublemaking, reminding Elizabeth that she was one who brought Regina back into the family fold in the first place. George’s scolding remarks are a bitter but humbling pill for the Bligh matriarch to swallow, motivating her to increase
her efforts to find meaningful purpose in her life outside of Ash Park. When that opportunity arises in the form a handsome and charitable gentleman, Elizabeth allows herself the chance to wonder if romance could be on her horizon. The job of trying to restore law and order and, dare Matt (Alex Dimitriades) even think it, success and respectability, to the school is made even more difficult when he encounters the same abuse from his staff. While the teachers are burnt-out and deeply cynical of the prospect that anyone could ever make a difference to this hellhole, deputy headmistress Ursula Bright (Di Adams) has an axe to grind. She makes it blatantly clear to Matt that she’s angry about his appointment. Ursula had also applied for the position but onceagain she’d been overlooked so she has no intention of assisting Matt in any way. He’s the handsome and benevolent manager of a refuge that helps returned servicemen readjust to life after World War II. It’s a cause close to Elizabeth’s heart and she’s quite taken with the gentleman – in more ways than one. Played by: Robert Coleby. Lloyd Ellis Parker
It’s time for the Bligh family portrait to be painted and Parker has received the commission for the job. But a stressed Olivia fears he’ll be painting from a whole can of trouble. Played by: Rick Donald. He parlayed his success on House Husbands and The Doctor Blake Mysteries into a role on the short-lived US sitcom Friends with Better Lives and in coming months will be seen as Woody on the new dramedy 800 Words.
Rose
Ash Park welcomes new maid Rose to its ranks but according to her portrayer, Brenna Harding, Rose isn’t just in Inverness for employment. “There’s a different reason why she’s there. She’s very ready to serve but she has a bit of a troubled past,” says the actress. Played by: Brenna Harding. A three-episode stint on Packed To The Rafters was just an acting taste test for Harding who rose to prominence playing the lead role of Sue Knight on two seasons of Ten’s drama Puberty Blues, based on Kathy Lette and Gabrielle Carey’s bestselling book of the same name. TWO DECADES SINCE Jared ‘Toadfish’ Rebecchi (RYAN MOLONEY) ARRIVED IN RAMSAY STREET, WE LOOK AT SOME OF THE FINEST MOMENTS OF ERINSBOROUGH’S FAVOURITE LAWYER
Driving Miss Dee to Death
A moment of passion meant the end for Dee.
TOADIE had found a magical kind of love with his former housemate DIONE ‘DEE’ BLISS (Madeleine West) and it finally culminated in a lavish wedding day held on the grounds of a grand mansion outside of Erinsborough. As the newly married MR AND MRS REBECCHI were driving off on their honeymoon, their split-second decision to share a beautiful kiss culminated in disaster. As Toadie’s eyes were distracted by the passionate moment, he lost control of the car which ploughed off the road, through a guardrail and over a cliff into the sea. While Toadie eventually emerged from the sunken wreckage, Dee’s body has never been found.
TOADIE GETS THE CHOP
For the first four years of his life on Ramsay Street, TOADIE sported a very noticeable and very treasured hairstyle – a long curly ponytail. While studying for his law degree, he anxiously tried obtaining a job with a law firm, prompting his mates to gently suggest that he’d improve his chances by losing the ponytail. Toadie was horrified but when DREW’s (Dan Paris) girlfriend lost her belongings in a fire, Toadie reluctantly decided to combine his job prospects with a fundraiser to help out the damsel in distress. For $10,000 in donations, Toadie allowed LOU (Tom Oliver) to chop off his ponytail live on television. Afterwards, Lou hung the hair behind his bar in his pub, Lou’s Place.

A SIEGE FROM SANTA
When KATYA KINSKI’s (Dichen Lachman) sordid past as a teenage drug addict, prostitute and car thief KATYA came back to haunt her it almost proved deadly for TOADIE. After Katya’s partner-in-crime GUY SYKES (Fletcher Humphrys) blackmailed her with DVD footage of her committing the crimes, Katya was desperate to escape his demands for hush money. When Katya wouldn’t cough up the cash, Guy shot her. She survived but he stalked her when she was released from hospital to spend Christmas with her family. He finally invaded No 32 Ramsay Street and held Katya, her brother ZEKE (Matthew Werkmeister), STEPH (Carla Bonner), her baby CHARLIE and Toadie hostage at gunpoint. Guy imprisoned the group for hours, shouting to know where Katya was hiding the cash she said she had for him until Zeke seized on Guy’s moment of distraction and hit him. As Steph, Katya, Charlie and Zeke ran for safety, Toadie stayed behind to retrieve Guy’s gun. Unfortunately, Guy recovered and shot Toadie in the back on the front lawn.
Connor and Toadie enjoyed the odd prank.
The House of Trouser For several years, TOADIE lived at No 30 Ramsay Street which became a share house. While Toadie had several housemates, on a couple of occasions it was an allmale set-up. While Toadie once lived there alongside LANCE (Andrew Bibby) and JOEL, when STUART (Blair McDonough) and CONNOR (Patrick Harvey) moved in, the prank-loving guys officially nicknamed it the House of Trouser.
TEARAWAY TEEN
TOADIE used to attend the tough West Waratah High School until his mother, ANGIE, BILLY (Lesley Baker) transferred him to Erinsborough High School upon their move to the area. While Toadie showed an uncharacteristically soft side by befriending shy newcomer BILLY KENNEDY (Jesse Spencer), his subsequent efforts to lead Billy astray finally caused the temperamental Angie to completely snap. Ordering her son to pack his bags, Angie shipped Toadie off to live with his AUNT CORAL (then-Denise Scott) – but Toadie would return.
Love of his life
TOADIE hooked up with SONYA (Eve Morey) when she came to town as LUCAS’ (Scott Major) Gamblers Anonymous sponsor. Despite several ups and downs, including the discovery that Toadie’s ward, CALLUM (Morgan Baker), was Sonya’s biological son, the lovebirds’ romance appeared complete when Sonya fell pregnant. They even survived the nightmarish return of Sonya’s ex and Callum’s father, TROY (Dieter Brummer), who held the pregnant Sonya hostage before trying to flee with Callum. Toadie watched in horror as Troy was killed in a car crash and had to face up to helping Callum through the ordeal. Further trauma ensued when Sonya slipped into a coma after giving birth to NELL and Toadie feared he’d lose her. Baby Nell completed the family.
TAKING IT OFF
He may not have the best body on the street but that didn’t stop TOADIE from joining the male JOEL residents to do a Full Monty strip routine for another fundraising evening. As KARL (Alan Fletcher), Toadie, DREW, BILLY and JOEL (Daniel MacPherson) reached the crescendo of their performance they were expecting the house lights at the venue to come on to show them covering their modesty with black hats. Unfortunately, the lights switched on prematurely and caught the guys completely naked. Toadie and the company were subsequently reported for indecent exposure.
The wedding curse
Following SONYA’s childbirth ordeal and recovery the couple planned a lovely outdoor wedding. However, TOADIE became obsessed with thoughts that he was a ‘wedding curse’ given the disasters of his previous wedding day efforts. Although the ceremony went off without a hitch, the curse came back at the reception when a gas explosion tore through the wedding marquee, killing PRIYA KAPOOR (Menik Gooneratne) and RHYS LAWSON (Ben Barber) and blinding Sonya.
NO EINSTEIN
TOADIE got the shock of his life when he underwent an intelligence test and was told that he had an above-average IQ. Naturally, ANGIE was thrilled to think that her tiresome troublemaker son had genius potential but Toadie was less so. Thinking he’d lose his status as a larrikin if he played up his intelligence, Toadie reasoned that he’s been too lazy over the years to even notice his braininess. Unfortunately, in proving his larrikinism, Toadie devastated HANNAH MARTIN (Rebecca Ritters) when he sent her a fake Valentine’s card from her maths teacher, TIM POWERS (Luke Kilmany), who she had a crush on. ➜
Toadie and Sonya thought they had beaten the curse...
... until a deadly explosion in the marquee.
There goes the bride
Toadie and Steph say ‘I do’
Although they had previously broken up after STEPH jilted him on their wedding day, TOADIE didn’t hesitate to reach out to Steph when she had an affair with DAN FITZGERALD (Brett Tucker) and fell pregnant with his child. As Dan was dating LIBBY (Kym Valentine), Toadie offered to marry Steph to give the baby a name and asked SONYA to wait for him. But the loveless marriage quickly dissolved when the secret of the baby’s paternity emerged.
ENEMIES TO FRIENDS
It’s hard to fathom but TOADIE and KARL weren’t always best mates like they are today. When KARL Toadie first came to town, Karl detested Toadie’s presence mainly because he was turning Karl’s son, BILLY, into a petty criminal. Toadie did nothing to change Karl’s opinion when he ‘borrowed’ his car so he and his ex-jailbird brother SHANE (Greg O’Meara) could joyride around the neighbourhood. Nowadays, all is forgiven and forgotten as Karl regards Toadie as a cherished and admired extended member of his family.

As TOADIE and his Year 12 classmates prepared to graduate, Toadie led the Muck-Up Day SUSAN celebrations by piping foam through the school’s air conditioning system. Unfortunately, the prank went awry when a fire erupted
What a bummer
Another accident-prone incident...
TOADIE was in the wrong place at the wrong time when the shocking secret of PAIGE SMITH’s (Olympia Valance) true identity was revealed. While driving in a car, Paige’s grandmother KATHY (Tina Bursill) found evidence that Paige was her granddaughter and promptly had a heart attack. As a result, Kathy’s foot hit the accelerator and her car ran down pedestrian Toadie, whose coccyx was broken. For weeks, Toadie succumbed to the humiliation of his broken bum and had to be encouraged to recover so he could perform his marital duties for an amused Sonya.
HOT FOR TEACHER
TOADIE was instantly smitten with neighbourhood newcomer JOANNA HARTMAN (Emma Harrison), an aerobics instructor, prompting Toadie to sign up to her classes. When he cheekily decided to fake a fainting fit so Joanna would give him mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, the plan backfired when a male class member performed CPR instead. A healthy Toadie was exposed and Joanna deeply hurt by actions. Guiltridden, a depressed Toadie temporarily considered himself an overweight pervert.

FATAL ATTRACTION
TOADIE’s attraction to SINDI WATTS (Marisa Warrington) developed when DARCY SINDI TYLER (Mark Raffety) forced her to break up Toadie and DEE so he could win Dee back. Although Darcy was displeased when Sindi and Toadie fell in love for real, it was the evil ROCCO CAMMENITI (Robert Forza) who proved a deadly obstacle for them. Having hooked up with the mobster after breaking up with Toadie and spending time out of town, Sindi played with fire when she and Toadie reconciled. Rocco refused to let her go and kidnapped Toadie who ended up in a coma when he was involved in a car crash while Rocco’s thugs were taking him to Adelaide. Later, Sindi posed a danger to Toadie when Toadie confronted her over an attempted murder she’d committed to further her fiancé STUART’s career. Sindi threw Toadie down a flight of stairs when he threatened to expose her deadly actions.
Toadie might regret that move.

BURIED TREASURE
TOADIE’s financial scams finally paid off when he and HANNAH unearthed buried treasure – an old box – beneath the KENNEDY house. Although Toadie despaired to only discover a china doll and a diary belonging to CHARLOTTE SPARROW, a girl who’d lived in the 1800s, he took a greater interest when Hannah learnt the 26 SW
Life-changing rescue
A pleasant day at the opening for a new childcare centre recently turned horrific for Toadie when he noticed that a jumping castle on which NELL (Scarlet Anderson) was playing hadn’t been anchored to the ground properly. BLOOD confides to Ridge that she’s glad she and Rick didn’t have kids because the pain of watching them dealing with their parents’ divorce would be too much to bear. As Caroline adds that she now has to let go of things she’d planned for her life, Ridge questions what more she could want and is stunned when she says, “I want to have a baby.” Ridge’s silent response speaks volumes but when Caroline presses the idea, Ridge reveals he doesn’t want to be a father again and Caroline quietly cries as he leaves her alone to absorb the magnitude of his comment. As Caroline struggles to regain her composure, Thomas remains certain that her relationship will end in tears as Ridge’s romances always do. After admitting to Brooke that Caroline is very special to him, Thomas can’t help but throw hints about his feelings for Caroline in her direction. When she calls him on his nervousness, Thomas looks into
her eyes, his genuine love for her evident from every angle. Unable to help himself Thomas warns Caroline to be wary of Ridge and his intentions and when Caroline unwittingly reveals that Ridge doesn’t want a family with her, Thomas fumes, asserting that Caroline is making all the sacrifices in the relationship and that will only lead to pain. He’d like nothing more than to lash out at his dad but Thomas takes the calm approach and begs Caroline to talk with Ridge before she gets hurt. Thomas also attempts to strengthen his relationship with Ridge but with the entire situation becoming precarious, Thomas’ only concern is for Caroline and he offers to do anything he can to soothe her heartache. WHEN Julius’ HATEFUL BEHAVIOUR OVERSHADOWS Maya AND Rick’s WEDDING, MAYA IS FORCED TO TAKE A STAND AGAINST HER FATHER TO STOP HER BIG DAY BEING RUINED
M
aya Avant has finally put her demons behind her but as she and Rick happily celebrate the eve of their wedding, Maya can’t help but worry that her unpredictable father, Julius, will cause trouble as he’s still coming to grips with her life as a transgender woman. While Maya (Karla Mosley) tentatively relaxes when Julius (Obba Babatunde) echoes her mother’s compliment about her choice of wedding gown, Nicole (Reign Edwards) remains concerned about her father’s attitude, believing he’s faking his acceptance of Maya just to take advantage of what he perceives is the Forrester family’s ostentatious lifestyle. Nicole fears that Julius will only hurt Maya again and it appears that she’s correctly judged her father when Julius makes pointed remarks to Maya’s transgender friend, Nick (Scott Turner Schofield), about testosterone before showing his displeasure at Rick (Jacob Young) and Maya publicly showing their affection for each other. After Julius lies to Maya that he wants to be a part of her life,

Maya awakens on her wedding day, thrilled at the prospect of her father walking her down the aisle. Preparations for the big day appear complete when Bill (Don Diamont) visits the happy couple and offers them a sincere apology for dragging Maya through the mire in his cheap tabloid magazines. She’s happier than ever when her mother Vivienne (Anna Maria Horsford) stops by the bride’s room to present her with her grandmother’s bracelet for the wedding ceremony. As the time for the ceremony nears, Maya is nervous over Julius’ noticeable absence from her side but when she goes to get him, she’s horrified to overhear him sneering to Vivienne that the marriage isn’t going to last as

“Rick can have any woman he wants and he’s going to marry into a freak show” instead. Although Vivienne growls at him to shut his mouth, Julius’ horrible words have made an impact on the bride as she throws herself on her bed in floods of tears. Thanks to Nicole’s reassuring words, Maya finally declares that she’s stronger than Julius’ hate and will pretend he doesn’t exist. As Maya descends the Forrester Mansion stairs in her wedding gown, Julius reaches for his daughter’s hand only to be met by her stern expression. She focuses on her mother as her parents walk her down the aisle. As the ceremony begins and Nick, who’s officiating, asks who gives the bride away and Julius answers, Maya stops the wedding cold. Staring into her father’s eyes, Maya calls Julius on his feelings for her and publicly shames him into admitting that he will never accept her as a woman. When Rick orders him to leave, Julius callously wonders if Rick is proud to have “Myron Avant, a woman that no other man would want” and slinks out of the house, stunned at Vivienne’s refusal to leave with him. Regaining her composure, Maya insists on resuming the ceremony and to everyone’s delight, she and Rick are finally married. As they leave on their honeymoon, Maya revels in her newfound life, confident that she’s erased the traumas of her complicated past forever. SW
Nicole’s embrace with Zende suggests there may be more to come...
Now firmly ensconced as an intern at Forrester Creations, Nicole is intent on pursuing her longtime goal to become a professional fashion model like her sister Maya and her recent practice flirtation walking on the runway has only encouraged her to develop her skills. Knowing that fellow intern Zende (Rome Flynn) is her biggest supporter, Nicole (Reign Edwards) seeks out other allies, bedazzled by the success of the California Freedom fashion show. Backstage at the clean-up, Nicole engages Othello (Othello Clark) in an enthusiastic critique of the show, confidently announcing that unlike the models in the preview, she’d put on a real show on the catwalk if given the chance. Seizing the moment to have her put her money where her mouth is, Othello boldly invites her to demonstrate her talents. As Zende arrives, a grinning Nicole steps on the runway declaring that “this is how it should be done” and struts and dances along the stage. Nicole is delighted when Zende suddenly joins her just as Othello switches on music and says “and now for the showstopper”. Taking Othello’s lead, Zende surprises Nicole when he takes her in his arms and says he wants to recreate her prom. They’re soon slow-dancing together and as the intimate moment builds, Nicole quietly tells Zende to get used to her being in the spotlight. However, Nicole’s excitement is suddenly dimmed following Julius’ (Obba Babatunde) outburst at Maya’s (Karla Mosley) wedding. Noticing her misery, Zende is quick to offer comfort and as he urges her to focus on her own exciting life and future, Nicole snuggles into his embrace pleased to have him in her life. SW SW 31

fter months of angrily trying to force her trouble-making exhusband Joe to get out of her life and Genoa City, Avery has suddenly witnessed a new side to his personality and has softened her harsh attitude towards him. Although Dylan is displeased with Avery’s friendly overtures towards Joe, she’s intent on being cordial with her ex after finally realising that no matter what she says or does, Joe is not leaving town. Now that Avery (Jessica Collins) is working alongside Joe (Scott Elrod) on a charity project, she happily has a business dinner with him to organise a fundraising event. Unfortunately, the move only antagonises Dylan (Steve Burton) who’s quick to oppose his fiancee’s ongoing association with the man who obviously wants to ruin their relationship. Guilt-ridden, Avery cries to an unconscious Joe that she’ll find a way to atone for ruining his life. Her heartache is compounded when Joe awakens and learns that he may never walk again. As Avery maintains her relentless bedside vigil, Dylan grows perturbed by the strengthening bond that’s developing between his fiancée and her ex-husband.
However, there’s no deterring Avery from Joe’s side and her guilt proves all-consuming when Joe lovingly calls her an angel. When Joe is advised that he’s being sent to a rehabilitation clinic in Chicago to recover, Avery shocks Joe and Dylan with her decision to accompany Joe for support. Although Joe is thrilled with the news, Dylan struggles to understand why Avery would support a man who’s caused her so much misery, but he soon resigns himself to the fact that Avery won’t change her mind. Although Jack remains guilt-ridden for his significant role in Kelly’s mental collapse and subsequent death, he finally realises that Phyllis is completely innocent of all the crimes Kelly accused her of and wants to celebrate the end of the ordeal by marrying Phyllis as soon as possible. As Jack (Peter Bergman) and Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) make plans to elope to a tropical island, they’ve got no idea that Victor (Eric Braeden) is seriously ramping up his mysterious plan to destroy Jack once and for all. Although Jack is soon receiving disturbing anonymous and menacing phone calls, his only thoughts are of his plans with Phyllis. A few days later, Jack and Phyllis arrive in St Barts and happily prepare KELLY for their wedding on a nearby beach. As they leave their hotel for the wedding, a storm ruins

Alone on the island, Jack is suddenly attacked, kidnapped and dragged away, allowing an imposter Jack who is identical in appearance to the real Jack to take Jack’s place. Phyllis has no idea about the switch as “Jack” returns to their hotel suite and surprises her with an impromptu indoor wedding. A hastily-acquired minister is soon pronouncing the couple husband and wife and Phyllis is a picture of marital bliss as she honeymoons and makes love to the man who is not really her husband. Meanwhile, in a dilapidated shack hidden away on an isolated part of the island, the real Jack suddenly awakens, startled to find that he’s bound and gagged and shackled to a bed. As Jack thrashes violently, he’s horrified when a very much alive Kelly (Cady McClain) finally reveals herself as his captor. Demanding an explanation for what has happened to him, Jack is thunderstruck when Kelly says she kidnapped him because she wants him and wants him to remember how much he loves her. As Jack protests to be freed, Kelly drugs him but when he revives and insists he loves only Phyllis, Kelly snaps and slaps him, screaming at him never to utter Phyllis’ name again. Sensing that the best way to affect his escape is to play along with Kelly’s fantasies, Jack romances a smitten Kelly into a false sense of security and his heart pounds as he gently asks her to untie him so he can show her how much he loves her. D
ays of Our Lives isn’t the only TV show to entertain us with ruthless murderers over the decades. Here are some of the best to appear on our screens as viewers were both entranced, and relieved, when they finally got their comeuppance – or not!
Dexter - Dexter
The charming blood splatter pattern expert is a serial killer with a difference. DEXTER MORGAN (Michael C. Reilly) goes by a code of conduct which involves only murdering guilty people who haven’t been brought to justice. This stems from witnessing his mother’s murder as a child and led to an obsession with killing. He is a meticulously careful killer who cleans up afterwards to avoid detection. Dexter came close to being caught many times but seemed to get away with it, though his sister, Debra, knew what he was up to.
The Carver – Nip/Tuck
This creepy character believed beauty was a curse and rectified this by carving grins into his victims’ faces before raping them. He zeroed in on plastic surgeons SEAN MCNAMARA (Dylan Walsh) and CHRISTIAN TROY (Julian McMahon), because they performed corrective surgery without asking for a fee. In fact, the Carver only killed one person, a woman who faked being disfigured, so she could get free plastic surgery. The Carver was revealed to be DR QUENTIN COSTA (Bruno Campos).
Red John
– The Mentalist
Finding RED JOHN (Xander Berkeley) became an obsession for PATRICK JANE (Simon Baker) after Red John murdered Jane’s wife and daughter. The killer mostly had female victims and used operatives, which he called tools, to communicate with Jane. A smiley face painted on the wall with his victim’s blood became Red’s calling card. In season 6 of The Mentalist, after a slew of suspects, Red John was finally revealed to be Sheriff THOMAS MCALLISTER. SW
Dr Hannibal Lecter – Hannibal Cannibalistic serial killer and forensic scientist DR HANNIBAL LECTER (Mads Mikkelson) is recruited to assess criminal profiler WILL GRAHAM (Hugh Dancy) because of Will’s ability to assume the mindset of the murderers he is investigating. Unfortunately for Will, Hannibal frames him for the Chesapeake Ripper murders and he ends up in jail, but is later cleared. Hannibal hands himself in and later teams up with Will to take down FRANCIS DOLARHYDE (Richard Armitage).
Sylar – Heroes
Wanting to be seen as special GABRIEL GRAY aka Sylar (Zachary Quinto) targeted superhumans to steal their powers: Sylar was a memorable villain. His own extraordinary “heroic” ability was intuitive aptitude. Sylar killed his victims by removing their brains to study how their power worked. This prompted fans to question whether he was actually eating the brains, but he just examined them and thought the idea of consuming them was “disgusting”.

ALL OF THESE BIG-NAME STARS HAVE MADE THEIR NAMES AND FORTUNES ON TV AND IN MOVIES AND NOW THEY’RE CASHING IN ON THE lucrative world of international advertising
Sylvester Stallone HE’S FAMILIAR FROM: One of the most recognisable US movie stars in the world, Stallone will be forever known for playing boxer Rocky Balboa in the Rocky movies as well as hard man John Rambo in the Rambo action films. THE SIDELINE SALES PITCH: It was these unforgettable appearances that prompted respected UK bread makers Warburtons to recruit Sly as the face for their line of bread products in their $38 million campaign. In the ad, Sly pays hilarious homage to the hit films he’s made by playing a bread deliverer who dreams of making a movie called The Deliverers and races against the clock to deliver Warburtons bread to households in time for breakfast each morning.
Iced tea has never looked sexier!
The tough-guy actor adds charm and wit to buying our daily bread.
Hugh Jackman HE’S FAMILIAR FROM: Coming to prominence for his role on the ABC’s prison drama Correlli in the 1990s, Jackman is now a consummate and versatile star across all genres having played Peter Allen on stage in The Boy From Oz and the signature role in the Wolverine films. THE SIDELINE SALES PITCH: In 2010, Jackman linked with Lipton’s to promote their range of Iced tea products and later combined his dance skills to perform in a series of TV pitches that were filmed on the famous beaches and streets of Montevideo and Punta del Este, Uruguay.
bignames,
bigbucks
Joanna Lumley SHE’S FAMILIAR FROM: After starting out as Elaine Perkins on Coronation Street in 1973, Lumley finally achieved legend status with her iconic appearances as the Bollinger champagne-swigging, chain-smoking Patsy Stone, the best friend of Edina Monsoon in British sitcom Absolutely Fabulous (1992-2012). In movies, she’s found added success in the likes of The Wolf of Wall Street and She’s Funny That Way. THE SIDELINE SALES PITCH: Lumley’s acting fame has now lead to several endorsement deals and it was her TV commercial appearances promoting British TV provider Sky on Demand that attracted the attention of Foxtel in Australia. Lumley can now be seen as its ambassador for their Box Sets channel.
Oh, to have a coffee with George!
Social media spruikers
The Bieb doing his Bieby thing.
These stars just can’t shake the habit of shamelessly promoting products on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram…
Justin Bieber Bieber has been known to plug everything from Adidas ‘Neo’ shoes to the florists 1-800-flowers, tweets that became so popular they attracted up to 75,000 followers who were unaware the tweets were part of a marketing campaign.
Selena Gomez Bieber’s one-time girlfriend also joined the Adidas ‘Neo’ craze, with the company playing up her “girl power” style so that their shoe ranges would appeal to teenage girls.
Lindsay Lohan The troubled actress uses social media to plug skincare Glycolic Pads, saying “@nipandfab Glycolic Pads – believe the hype people! My skin has never looked better!”
Nicki Minaj
George Clooney HE’S FAMILIAR FROM: He may have got his start in TV shows like The Facts of Life and 1990s primetime soap Sisters but it was as heart-throb doctor Doug Ross in hit medical drama ER that saw Clooney hit the big time. From there, cinematic success ensued in flicks like the Oceans franchise, The Descendants and Gravity. Behind the camera, Clooney has produced films like Argo and August: Osage County. THE SIDELINE SALES PITCH: Regularly named as one of the Sexiest Men alive, Clooney has found new fame and even bigger bank balances starring in internal ads for car giant Fiat. He’s now signed on for $54 million as the brand ambassador for Swiss giant Nestlé. He stars in Nespresso ads that feature other big names including Homeland actor Nazanin Boniadi and George’s buddy Matt Damon, who reportedly was paid $3 million for his 20-second appearance. Currently in the ads, George is co-starring with French film star Jean Dujardin.
Rap singer, songwriter and former American Idol judge Minaj is a social media proponent of MateFit, a range of weight loss and energyboosting teas.
Kyle Richards The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star loves Carinas Skin Care products and has thanked them online for “bringing my face back to life.” ➜ SW 49
Message meltdown While these famous social media lovers have got themselves into trouble for doing it…
Kim Kardashian Miss K knows how to make millions endorsing products on social media but her recent advertising of Diclegis morning sickness pills to her 42 million Instagram followers caused controversy when the US Federal Drug Administration warned her about failing to disclose “any risk information” about the pills.
Jessica Alba The movie and TV actress efforts to promote her own company’s line of sunscreen to her followers came under scrutiny when Jessica Alba’s Honest Company (valued at a staggering US$1 billion) customers claimed via Instagram images that her “natural mineralbased” sunscreen left them sunburnt. Jessica replied via Instagram that it “pained” her and the company to hear that anyone has had “a negative experience with our Sunscreen.”
Nicole Kidman One of Australia’s favourite acting exports hit the skids recently when she became the face of Middle Eastern airline Etihad Airways as part of their multi-million dollar campaign. With the company under fire for its reported unequal and discriminatory treatment of female employees, the Association of Professional Flight Attendants warned Kidman that her role was in conflict with her work as a UN women’s goodwill ambassador.
Beyonce The singing superstar struck it lucky when she signed a $50 million deal to promote Pepsi products around the world. However, critics lashed out, accusing her of promoting an unhealthy drink product while also acting as the rep for US First Lady Michelle Obama’s ‘Let’s Move!’ fitness campaign to combat obesity. Beyonce hit back saying she’d never “encourage any person, especially a child, to live life without balance.” 50 SW
Big-name stars can add big-profit cred to everyday products.
Eric Stonestreet HE’S FAMILIAR FROM: Since 2009, Stonestreet has found worldwide fame and riches as Cameron Tucker, the same sex partner of Mitchell Pritchett on the sitcom Modern Family. THE SIDELINE SALES PITCH: Two years ago, Stonestreet capitalised on Modern Family’s success on Australian TV by teaming up with retail giant Big W. In the TV campaign he was seen pushing a trolley load of goods through a Big W store while comically interacting with customers and staff before gesturing to the audience with Big W’s catchphrase “Cha Ching”. Of the brand partnership, Stonestreet said at the time, “I know people think that living in LA is all champagne and Rodeo Drive but I have always shopped at stores like Big W to get great value.”
Jennifer Aniston SHE’S FAMILIAR FROM: After becoming a 10-year sensation as Rachel Green on the sitcom Friends (1994-2004) during which everything from her marriage to movie heart-throb Brad Pitt to her wildly-copied hairstyles were scrutinised, Aniston has moved on to a hit/miss career in films like The Break-Up, Marley & Me, Horrible Bosses and most recently Cake and She’s Funny That Way. THE SIDELINE SALES PITCH: Not content with her acting success, the daughter of Days star John Aniston (Victor) has joined forces with Aveeno Skin Care to promote their range of beauty products, reportedly for a cool $13 million. In their global TV ad campaigns, the newly-remarried Aniston can be seen speaking of the benefits of using Aveeno moisturisers. SW

DO SOMETHING! I am so disappointed in B&B’s Ivy (ASHLEIGH BREWER). How could she just sit there and record Steffy (JACQUELINE MACINNES WOOD) and Aly’s (ASHLYN PEARCE) altercation and not do anything to help? She’s now blaming Steffy for Aly’s death, but really she should be blaming herself for not stopping it. There’s no way Liam (SCOTT CLIFTON) will be with her now! S. Gillespie Perth, NSW
Things are heating up for Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) and Deacon (Sean Kanan) on The Bold and the Beautiful and I am thrilled to bits. I just love their chemistry and the way they steam up the screen. Quinn’s (Rena Sofer) time is definitely up because Brooke deserves happiness (and more screen-time). Good to see the more mature characters back in the storylines after so much Liam/Ivy/Steffy stuff.
HOT FOR CHAD
Thanks for your special on TV’s Most Eligible Bachelors in the last issue. All four of those fine looking young men would make a great partner for anyone, not just a TV character. My pick is Days of our Lives’ Chad (BILLY FLYNN), he is just so hopelessly in love with Abigail (KATE MANSI) that he seems lost without her. I hope they finally get together soon. J. The Flash is a fast-paced superhero drama that follows the high-speed adventures of the Fastest Man Alive. The action drama follows Central City Police scientist Barry Allen (Grant Gustin), an everyday guy with the heart of a hero and the genuine desire to help others. Standing still emotionally since the day his mother was murdered, Barry was taken in as a child by the investigating Detective West (Jesse L. Martin) and raised in a cop’s home alongside West’s super-smart daughter (and Barry’s dream girl), Iris (Candice Patton). But when a devastating accident at the S.T.A.R. Labs Particle Accelerator facility strikes Barry, he finds himself suddenly charged with the incredible power to move at super speeds. Barry uses his powers to help the people of Central City and stop the villains. In the aftermath of his victory in season 2, season 3 opens with Arrow (Stephen Amell) now a hero to the citizens of Starling City. Crime is down, people feel safer, and Captain Lance (Paul Blackthorne) even calls off the Anti-Vigilante Task Force. Basking in his success, Oliver believes he can finally have a private life and asks Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) out on a date. But the second Oliver takes his eye off the ball, a deadly villain reappears in Starling, forcing Oliver to realise that he can never solely be Oliver Queen – not as long as the city needs The Arrow. Before there was Batman there was Gotham. Everyone knows the name Commissioner Gordon. He is one of the crime world’s greatest foes, a man whose reputation is synonymous with law and order. But what is known of Gordon’s story and his rise from rookie detective to Police Commissioner? Gotham is the origin story of the great DC Comics Super-Villains and vigilantes, revealing an entirely new chapter that has never been told. From executive producer/writer Bruno Heller (The Mentalist), Gotham stars Ben McKenzie and follows one cop’s rise through a dangerously corrupt city teetering between good and evil, and chronicles the birth of one of the most popular super heroes of our time. Gotham season 1, Flash season 1 and Arrow season 3 are available on Blu-Ray and DVD from September 23.

Jesse Andrews’ hilarious, outrageous and truthful look at friendship, high school – and death – is now an award-winning movie. It is a universally acknowledged truth that high school sucks. But on the first day of his senior year, Greg Gaines thinks he’s figured it out. The answer to the basic existential question: How is it possible to exist in a place that sucks so seriously? His strategy: Keep an insanely low profile. Make mediocre films with the one person who is even sort of his friend, Earl. This plan works for exactly eight hours. Then Greg’s mother forces him to become friends with a girl who has cancer. This brings about the “destruction” of Greg’s life.
A Royal Night Out is a film about one evening in the lives of two real-life princesses. They are Elizabeth and Margaret Windsor and the night is 8 May 1945, V.E. Night. The whole of London is celebrating the official end of World War II in Europe. The teen princesses, aged 19 and 14, slipped out and went dancing at the Ritz and apparently returned to Buckingham Palace just after midnight. A Royal Night Out is a “what-if” story about the adventures Elizabeth (Emily Watson) and Margaret (Bel Powley) might have had on that very special night.

The studio has cleverly introduced many new attractions this year.
NIGHTTIME STUDIO TOUR
Universal’s slate of new attractions will entertain from sun-up to sundown when the theme park broadens the scope of its popular Studio Tour with the introduction of a ‘Nighttime Studio Tour’. Under a blanket of stars, theatrical lighting will cast a glow on iconic backlot sets as Studio Tour guides shed light on Hollywood secrets and tricks of the world’s most glamorous trade, including how filmmakers create the effect of daylight amid the black of night. Celebrated stars who found fame on Universal’s backlot will also make cameo appearances on the ‘Nighttime Studio Tour’, including Marilyn Monroe, Norman Bates and even Frankenstein! Scary stuff, indeed.
THE WIZARDING WORLD OF HARRY POTTER
Harry Potter fans rejoice – Hogwarts is coming to Hollywood! The countdown to the opening of ‘The Wizarding World of Harry Potter’ has begun, with Universal Studios Hollywood announcing a US spring time opening of its anticipated ‘Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey’ attraction. More than five years in the making, and inspired by J.K. Rowling’s compelling stories and characters, guests will be taken on a journey into many memorable scenes alongside Harry, and his close friends, Ron and Hermione. Travelling by Floo powder, expect to soar high above Hogwarts, partake in a Quidditch match, narrowly escape a dragon attack and have a close encounter with the Whomping Willow. First Name:
hen Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree, he’s a truly wondrous sight. But when the King of the Bush joins forces with Peter Carl Fabergé, the King of Jewelled Treasures, the magic really begins! Now, you can enjoy both in the “King of the Bush Music Box”, an enchanting new Fabergé-inspired musical premiere, available only from The Bradford Exchange.
Centuries-old hand-crafting creates a modern masterpiece Skilled in the traditions of the great porcelain houses of Europe, our Master Artisans craft each edition by hand using only the finest Heirloom Porcelain®. The base showcases a charming pair of ‘kookas’ created by Joy Scherger, one of Australia’s most celebrated wildlife artists. Lavished all over with hand-applied 22-carat gold accents, the music box features more that 80 faux gems, each one set by hand in the Fabergé tradition. The egg opens to reveal a kookaburra sculpture, so realistic you can almost hear his laughter echo through the bush! The sculpt is painted entirely by hand, creating a treasure as rare and beautiful as one of Fabergé’s own masterpieces! Plays the melody of “Beautiful Dreamer” as a lovely finishing touch.
