NEW MOTORWAYS OF THE SEA INTERMODAL TERMINAL
—
OPERATING FROM MAY 31ST, 2014
INTERMODAL LOGISTIC NEW COMMERCIAL ROUTES
The motorways of the sea terminal is the new hub designed for “Ro-Ro” and “Ro-Pax” traffic in Venice. It is the first port of call upon entering Venice lagoon and it leads to time-saving during all mooring and loading/ unloading operations. The new hub extends across 38 set-up hectares dedicated to improved logistics. The terminal, provided with high automatic systems, is composed of 4 piers for ships from 210 to 245 meters long and 4 railways interconnecting with the national rail system. The terminal represents a
crossing point for three main European freight transport corridors (corridor I, corridor V and corridor VIII); it is 10 minutes from the highway network (A4 Milan-Venice-Trieste, A13 Padua-Bologna, A22 Venice-Verona-Brenner-Munich and “Romea” Venice-Ravenna), 10 Km from Venice International Airport “Marco Polo” (the third Italian stopover) and 30 Km from Treviso Airport. It offers full assistance to clients, from mechanical service for trains and other vehicles, to cold-ironing service in order to reduce costs and air emissions.
strives for the creation of new commercial routes based on ship-train-truck integration.
The terminal is being managed by “Venice Ro-Port Mos SCpA” company that drew up a 40-year long concession agreement with Venice Port Authority in order to plan, design, build and completely manage the new terminal for the “Highways of the Sea”.
Due to its position and structure, it is considered the closest logistic center to Po valley waterways. It has been planned and built to create a perfect integration between couriers and shipment units, as requested by European standards.
The motorways of the sea terminal has a project financing structure involving a capital contribution of 200 million Euros in order to fulfil the recovery plan of a disused industrial area. “Venice Ro-Port MoS SCpA” deals independently with the over all management of the terminal. The company
