NORTH X MASH GANG
Style Cloudy Lemon Radler
ABV 2.5%
Hops Citra + Simcoe
Mash Gang, founded in 2021 by a group of friends, has rapidly emerged as a significant player in the craft beer world! Specialising in high-quality, small-batch low and no alcohol beers, their impact on the industry over the past few years has been profound, and we’re really excited to be collaborating with them for the first time, on our first ever radler!
What truly excites us about this collaboration is their innovative spirit and dedication to redefining what beer can be. You could even argue that their branding is the reason alcohol beers are now cool! They’ve clearly had a huge impact on the market and having tried quite a few of their beers, it comes to us as no surprise that they saw an impressive 700% growth from 2021 to 2022, without any spending on PR!
From our own sales, we know that the industry is shifting with more and more drinkers opting for lower ABV beers and according
to Mash Gang, only a small portion (20%) of their customers are tee-total, suggesting the majority are simply cutting down, rather than cutting out. Hearing stories from their CFO, Roger, about his year off beer, and the benefits of drinking less, really has got us thinking about our low and no offering and is why we’ve been looking forward to releasing our 2.5% cloudy lemon radler so much.
Mash Gang have partnered with some revered breweries recently and have won many awards,
so we were honoured when they asked us to collaborate. Together, we’ve crafted a radler that’s light, refreshing, and ideal for summer— a harmonious blend of zesty lemonade mixed with New England IPA. It’s light, juicy and zesty, perfect for sun seekers, park drinkers and those who enjoy a lip-tingling, sour beer.

Coffee Meets Craft: A Chat with Duncan and Seb on Coffee-infused Beers
In March we launched our Barrel-Aged coffee stout in collaboration with Welsh Roasters, Bay Coffee. Now, 4 months later, we’re releasing a second batch which has had time to develop. An opportunity to see how the flavours in this complex stout have developed
Back when Duncan, Founder of Bay Coffee, joined us for our brew day, we had the pleasure of sitting down with him and our Head Brewer, Seb, to discuss all things coffee related brewing!
Can you share your thoughts on incorporating it into beer?
Duncan We’ve brewed a coffee beer before with Bluestone Brewery which was received quite well. As a passionate coffee enthusiast, it’s always exciting to blend coffee with beer, and I particularly love stouts. We’ve experimented before, and it’s all about finding the right balance to complement the beer’s flavour profile.
Seb I remember the first time I really noticed coffee in a beer—it was the Mikkeller Beer Geek Breakfast at BrewDog in Edinburgh. It was back in 2010, so I don’t know what I would make of it now, but it was one of my first intros into that kind of modern, strong stout. The coffee flavour was intense, and it made a lasting impression on me.”
How do you decide on which coffee to use for a beer?
Duncan It’s about exploring various flavours. Sumatran coffee, which we’ve chosen for this beer is less acidic, with earthy and chocolatey notes, which we thought would blend well with the whisky barrel-aged stout.
Seb We actually trialled four different coffees. The Sumatran stood out for its robust, earthy characteristics that didn’t clash with the whisky notes in the beer. It’s all about complementing and enhancing the existing flavours.”
Can you walk us through the process of brewing a coffee-infused beer?
Seb We start by planning the base beer and selecting barrels for aging. For this stout, we used a mix of rum and whisky barrels to impart complex flavours. After aging, we add the coffee. We prefer cold extraction to avoid over-extraction, which can happen if you add coffee to hot beer. We also use a hop cannon to circulate the beer through the coffee grounds, allowing us to control the contact time precisely.
How do you think the flavours will evolve over time?
Duncan The initial vibrant coffee notes might mellow, and the beer will integrate more, potentially highlighting different aspects of the coffee. It’s a dynamic process.
Seb Exactly. We expect the more volatile flavours to fade, leaving behind a well-rounded, cohesive taste. It’s a bit like how hops age in a beer, where the immediate punchy flavours give way to deeper, more complex notes.”
