HELLO! April went fast didn’t it? We hope that you managed to venture out for an outdoor pint or two. Here in Leeds the city has felt like it was coming back to life, with pop up mini beer gardens lining the streets and some very thirsty customers! Production has ramped up again at the brewery and we’ve kegged beer for the first time in months! We’re getting more and more familiar with the new kit at Springwell and there is already talk about needing more tanks! (Are we only four months into brewing here?!). We’ve also been working behind the scenes on showing our original brewery at Taverner’s Walk some love and affection. Plans are being formed for the future of Taverner’s Walk - experimental beers and a venue for private events? We’ll keep you in the loop!

Thank you for all your Beer Club support as we transition to the new site. Make sure that you join our Facebook group to chat to other members and be the first to know about Beer Club news. And thank you to everyone who has popped down to the taproom at Springwell! It’s been great to put some names to faces. We can’t wait to see more of you! Love North xx

PUBS ARE BACK! WE ARE SO HAPPY TO SEE PEOPLE BACK IN (OUTSIDE) THE PUBS DRINKING BEERS AND SOCIALISING SAFELY AGAIN. THIS LOCKDOWN WAS COLD, DARK, AND VERY VERY LONG, AND HEARING THE SOUND OF CONVERSATION HAS BEEN BRILLIANT. We’ve been mixing up our service style - with each bar operating as a bottle shop for takeouts alongside serving customers sitting outside. Cold frothy pints of Springwell Pils and Sputnik have been flying out, with each bar putting its own twist on post lockdown life.

We also opened our taproom at Springwell - it was ace to see some familiar faces from the Beer Club popping by for a beer and a bao. We have been pretty overwhelmed by the reaction to our opening so far, and it’s been great training up a new team. North Bar has been holding its own on New Briggate. Serving beers, cocktails and Dim Sum in its new outside area. We’ve also

managed to take a little time to visit some of our favourite bars in Leeds. We have been supporting the industry through our Pay It Forward scheme during the latest lockdown, and it’s been great to help some customers get North beers flowing from their taps ready for reopening. Keep an eye on our social media feeds for recommendations for some of our favourite bars and restaurants who stock North.

OPEN SPACE Style

West Coast Pale

ABV

4.5%

Hops

Simcoe + Chinook

We’re tripping back to the West Coast of America in Open Space. A pale ale made with Best Ale, Cara and Light Munich malt to make a crisp and crunchy base with a deep golden hue. West Coast beers are always fun to make as it means we get to play with some of our favourite classic US hops. A steady dry hop of Simcoe and Chinook boasts sticky grapefruit, lemon, floral bouquets and pine flavours with a spiky pinch on the finish. The best part about this beer? - it’s gluten free!

Gluten free / Vegan / Contains Barley

NORTH X AF BREWING Style

Double IPA

ABV

9.0%

Hops Galaxy + Citra + Nelson Sauvin

We first met AF Brew at Borefts Beer Celebration in The Netherlands. They then invited us to head to their festival, Lobotomy Day, in St Petersburg. While we haven’t been able to meet up in person for a while (thanks Covid) we have kept in touch via WhatsApp, and brewed a virtual collab together. When it came to the beer style we quickly decided on a DIPA. Best ale malt, wheat and oats make up a velvety smooth malt base for us to load in a heaps of hops in this boisterous DIPA. Galaxy, Citra and Nelson Sauvin radiate with punchy dank and fresh cut honey melon aroma whilst booming with tart gooseberry, juicy blueberry and bright, zesty grapefruit.

Vegan / Contains Barley + Wheat + Oats

TAKE DOWN YOUR ART Style

Sour IPA

ABV

7.5%

Hops

El Dorado + Sabro + Columbus

Take Down Your Art is a Sour IPA made for slurping. Heavy on the oats and wheat for a slippery smoothness that rushes over your tastebuds. Kettle soured with Lallemand helveticus and fermented with Kveik Yeast for an intense citrus ZING and is dosed with El Dorado, Sabro and Coloumbus on the dry hop. It’s sharp but rounded, it lashes pineapple, it’s jabs with lime zest, it’s dripping with passion fruit, it’s clean, it is DELICIOUS!

Contains Barley + Oats + Wheat

SEA OF NECTAR Style

DDH Pale

ABV 4.8% Hops

Cashmere + Mosaic

A delicate and light Pale Ale super charged with Cashmere hops and finished with Mosaic. Soft peaches, tangerine, melon and lemongrass stand affront on the pallet while Mosaic backs up with quiet pine bitterness and juicy blueberry characteristics. Kick back, close your eyes and let the Sea of Nectar wash over you.

Vegan / Contains Barley + Wheat + Oats

TRANSMISSION Style IPA ABV 6.9% Hops

Citra + Mosaic + Chinook + Sultana

New England meets California in this mix up of American IPA styles. Resinous pine, pithy pink grapefruit zest, savoury spice and fleshy ripe pineapple combines with a soft haze of juicy stone fruits and sweet mango. Transmission is an award winning IPA and our core range headliner. A beer we’re incredibly proud of and one that stands up against the best brewing has to offer.

Vegan / Contains Barley + Wheat

FULL FATHOM 5 Style

Coffee + Coconut Porter

ABV 6.5% Hops None

Rich, roasty and slick. Full Fathom 5 boasts a complex malt bill with coffee and coconut infused in the mash to bring even more flavour than before. Balanced sweetness and a dry finish build the perfect beer for a second cold infusion of coffee and coconut to stand on and shine.

Vegan / Contains Barley + Oats

VOLTA Style

Blood Orange and Rhubarb Sour

ABV 4.1% Hops None

We first brewed Volta in 2017 as we took baby steps into the world of sours! Volta is a 4.1% kettle sour with plenty of wheat, fresh rhubarb, blood orange purée and fresh orange zest! We now brew it seasonally anticipating the rhubarb harvest each winter. Fun Volta fact: West Yorkshire is home to the Rhubarb Triangle; a nine-square-mile area between Wakefield, Morley and Rothwell where fuchsia pink rhubarb is picked by candlelight between January and March each year. The Rhubarb Triangle produces 90% of the world’s forced Rhubarb, and holds its own Rhubarb Festival to celebrate in February. The rhubarb used in Volta is sourced from E. Oldroyd & Sons in Rothwell who have harvested rhubarb using this method for five generations.

Vegan / Contains Barley + Oats + Wheat

GUEST BREWERY DURATION Duration is a modern farmhouse brewery in West Acre (West Norfolk) making beers that belong. In April they hosted Sam and Alex for our first in person collab of 2021, brewing a West Coast DIPA together. Duration was founded by Miranda and Bates in Summer 2017. After brewing their first batches nomadically and in collaboration with friends in the industry (one of which was here at North) the brewery moved into its permanent Norfolk home in October 2019. Nestled in ancient woodlands midway along the Nar Valley Pilgrim Trail, the brewery sits in the ruins of an old priory and by the banks of a chalk river. Duration brews beers that take inspiration from and pay homage to the area’s unique terroir and produce. Following a complex renovation process, Duration’s sustainable brewery is both a nod to the past and look to the future. We first met Bates when he was brewing at London’s Brew By Numbers and have kept in touch with him and Miranda ever since. We are so excited to see their taproom finally open this Spring, and cannot wait to visit them soon.

DURATION X NORTH GRACEFULLY FACEDOWN Style

West Coast DIPA

ABV 8.0% Hops Citra + Simcoe

We teamed up with our friends at Duration to release their first West Coast DIPA: A really crisp and clean beer with tropical aroma and a bold assertive bitterness. Sometimes when life ain’t going your way, and there’s bills to pay, the same bad news every day, you may find yourself Gracefully Facedown just wishing you could feel alright. Chin up!

DURATION YOU END UP WHERE YOU WERE Style Table Beer ABV 3.0% Hops

Amarillo + Citra + Ekuanot

The second beer from our friends at Duration is an elegant citrus table beer. Crisp, light and enjoyable for easy refreshment at a sessionable abv. Is anything finer than gathering round the table to break bread? The connections we make melt away differences making any place feel like home. This table beer is meant for such occasions, finding familiarity and communality on the road. Because no matter where you are, if you go straight long enough you end up where you were.
