wide web! Links to these two new sites have been added to the home page on our website for your direct access. One final e-item. Until we can get the Chapter By-Laws posted on the internet, please contact me if you‟d like to receive a copy of them. Big doings in the works………A transition is underway on the Chapter Board, filling the vacant ViceChairman position and bringing on a new Membership Director! Jim Fenske, who has headed up Membership for just about as long as I can remember, is our new Vice-Chairman. Jim is excited to move into a role where he has broad oversight and the ability to be more directly involved with Chapter and Board special interests. We‟re excited to welcome Jerome Lardy to the Chapter Board as the new Membership Director. Jim will work with Jerome to insure a seamless transition of responsibilities. Jerome brings a great deal of enthusiasm to the position and will provide a fresh perspective on all Board matters. Please join me in congratulating Jim and Jerome on these appointments and thanking them for stepping forward to help out, truly making a difference. Then on to the fiscal side of things…..at the beginning of this year the Board approved a 2011 budget presented by your Treasurer, Steve McWhirter. In spite of the loss of sponsorship dollars and a reduction in membership, and with the help of a small increase in dues and some belt-tightening, the Chapter has budgeted a modest positive cash flow for the year. Please contact Steve or myself if you‟d like any Chapter financial information. Have you seen our latest crusades into Cyberspace? The Chapter now has it‟s own facebook and flickr sites. Join in at the facebook site and follow Chapter news, notices on upcoming events and use the site as a communication tool to connect with other Chapter members. By the time you read this you should have already received an invitation from the facebook site to join. The flickr site is up and running strong. This is a website that features photos with a brief description of Chapter member‟s Corvettes. As I pen this in late March, we have 22 photos posted which is only 11% of our upload capacity. We have plenty of room for a photo of your car. Check out our flickr site at www.flickr.com/ photos/ncrs_north_central_chapter. To get your Corvette photo posted to the site, send me an electronic photo in a file along with a breif description of your Corvette to neilson340@aol.com or you can mail it to me on a CD, DVD or flash drive too. That‟s all you need to do to get your Corvette on the world

OK then, what‟s coming up? Don‟t miss our Casual Night Out on Saturday April 9th at Ol‟ Mexico Restaurant in Roseville. This has historically been the number 1, top attended Casual Night Out location EVER!! And for good reason. Plan to be there -OR BE SQUARE And then there‟s the Midwest Regional in Joplin, MO on April 28 - 30. What a fantastic way to kick off the 2011 on-the-road events. This is going to be an all-out, over-the-top Regional Meet attracting many of the best Corvettes around! Join the many North Central Chapter members that are planning to attend. June 4th is the Chapter Spring Fun Run. Plans are to meet at Noerenberg Gardens on Lake Minnetonka at 10 AM to start a day of back road driving and good time fun. We‟ll road tour to visit a couple of classic car dealers and, of course, make sure we have adequate stops for requisite food and libations along the way. Details to follow….. It‟s not too far ahead to plan for a trip to the 2011 Nationals in Novi, Michigan this July 17 - 22. Mark Ogren is putting together a road trip to Novi that will be second to none. Contact Mark for details. And then, our own Chapter Judging Meet is August 20th. Once again this year, the meet will be sponsored by Kennedy Transmission, Brake and Auto Service. The “We can fix that” guys. We‟ll meet at 2225 Daniels St. in Long Lake from 8 to 2. This is your day to donate to the Chapter by participating as a Judge, Observer Judge or Tabulator. Finally, We‟ll be hosting the 2012 Midwest Regional in Rochester in June, 2012. We need everyone‟s help in hosting a successful Regional Meet. Please contact me or any other Board Member if you are available to help out in any way. Thank you!

Membership Update By Jim Fenske, Membership Chairman Since our last published newsletter, Bill Braun has joined our chapter. Bill is our newly elected regional representative and as such, he is the conduit to bring issues or concerns to the national organization. On a personal basis, Bill lives in McHenry, Illinois and has a couple of 1963 Corvettes. I‟m sure Bill will represent our chapter well. Welcome to the North Central Chapter!

A motion was made, seconded and passed to have Steve purchase CD‟s for a total of $8,000. If members would like to see the budget or have questions, they can email Steve. FOLLOW UP ON THE NOVEMBER, 2010 TECH SESSION At our November, 2010 tech session we discussed in detail paint and bodywork techniques using a 1967 big block coupe as our review specimen. You will recall that the car‟s fiberglass panels had several large, deep scars and numerous smaller scratches, pits, dings, etc. Especially around the gas cap and driver side panel above the rear tire. That day we saw the car after it‟s first gel coat application. Here is the same car photographed on January 10, 2011 as it sits ready to leave the shop and go home. A second coat of gel coat was applied after the first coat was sanded. Then sanded again and then sprayed in base coat clear coat, sanded, buffed, etc………you know the routine. Check out how nice this car turned out. No signs of those earlier problems are detected. And see how crisp the lines are. The styling line running down the center of the car is every bit as strong as it was originally, in spite of two coats of gel coat build up. Thanks goes out to Tim Cossette and his crew at Long Lake Collision who performed the work.
