MAIL TO:

January to March 2016 EDITION

We’re off to a great start already for 2016! We’ve had a fairly mild winter and early spring here in Minnesota, so expect the cars to come out of storage very soon…and it’s still just the end of March. We had a really good turnout at our annual winter dinner at Mancini’s with 31 attending. Thanks to Don O’Grady for making the arrangements. For door prizes, we gave away three battery chargers and one member won free membership dues for next year. The board members modeled their new chapter shirts so we took requests and submitted another order. Our chapter had over ten members attending the NCRS judging school in Dallas in early March. It was a full two days and a lot of information to absorb. This was really well worth the time spent and I encourage all chapter members to consider attending one of these events in the future. A reminder that our regional judging meet is coming up quickly – Thurs., May 19 through Sat., May 21 – in Rochester, Minn. There are still volunteer slots to be filled and we certainly could accept more cars for judging. Contact Chris Enstrom if you have some time and talents to help…or a car to be judged.

Board Meeting

We are off and running for another fun filled year. The chapter began 2016 with 120 members. Since then, four new members have joined our chapter bringing us up to 124. Christopher Eldredge lives in Fergus Falls, MN and joined our chapter through the NCRS website. Craig Olson resides in Chanhassen, MN and is a previous member of our chapter. Craig has a ’65 convertible that he put a ’07 motor into. Craig Top Flighted a ’69 several years back and is currently working on a C1. He was looking for a C1 body dolly, if anybody has one they are not using. Andrew Piazza is a resident of Richfield, MN and joined our chapter with the encouragement of Paul Burski. Andy has a ’64 and attended the tech session at Paul’s home and was able to meet many of our members. Pete Heunisch lives in Burnsville, MN and has a ’69 convertible, 350/350 four speed that was handed down to him by his father. This is a common story in our chapter where the son obtains the father’s Corvette. Pete attended the engine dyno and met several members, too. We welcome all our new members and look forward to seeing them at an upcoming event. I will be sending out an updated membership listing in the next week or two.

Emeritus Members

The North Central Chapter has created an emeritus list of past members who were instrumental in helping the chapter become what it is today.

We are adding three new members to the list this year. Dale & Val Crosby and Paul Wozny. The other emeritus members are, in alphabetical order, Denny Adams, Art Bruns, Gene Bygd, Ken Ester, John Kramlinger, Rick Meyer, John O’Donnell, Russ Steinhaus and Al Voca. The chapter will send these former members copies of the newsletter as a gesture of our appreciation for all their past efforts. We hope they will enjoy reading the articles. Thank you to the emeritus members for your years of service and participation in our chapter. Jerome Lardy Membership Chairman

2015 CHAPTER Top Flight Award

The North Central Chapter participated in the NCRS Chapter Award Program again in 2015. This program was developed to promote member involvement and participation in Chapter events, while encouraging the sharing of knowledge in the restoration and preservation of the Corvette. Congratulations to the North Central Chapter!!! For the fourth year in a row, we have been awarded a Chapter Top Flight Award. I thought you might find it interesting to see how we accomplished this feat. To earn the Chapter Top Flight Award, our Chapter had to perform/complete all eight required activities and a minimum of six variable activities during the program year. We started out 2015 with 119 members and ended the year with 129 members. The NCRS considers us to be a medium sized chapter (75 to 150 members).

REQUIRED ACTIVITIES (need all 8)

1) Host at least one local Chapter Judging Meet. We held two on May 30 and Aug. 15. 2) Conduct one technical seminar. We had four this year. 3) Conduct one judging school. We hosted two of them. 4) Conduct one membership meeting to select officers. This was held on Oct. 1. 5) Conduct one chapter charitable event. We held a fundraiser for the Courage Kenny Foundation and raised $200.00 6) Conduct one chapter road tour. We held three this year going to Hastings, MN, Menomonie, WI and New Ulm, MN. 7) Conduct one chapter social event. We had two: one at Mancini’s Restaurant and the second at Ol’ Mexico. 8) Chapter website must be maintained and linked to www.ncrs.org which ours was.

VARIABLE ACTIVITIES (need 6 of 8)

1) Ten members (8%) had their cars judged during 2015. The minimum requirement is 5%. I am basing the percentages off of the ending membership of 129 members. Though the percentages might not be accurate for the date of the event, they will give you a good idea of our participation ratio. 2) We had eight technical articles published in our chapter newsletter. As a medium sized chapter, we needed six. 3) Forty three members (34%) judged or tabulated at our judging meets. The minimum requirement is 15%. 4) Thirty five members (28%) drove their Corvettes to a chapter function in 2015. The minimum requirement is 15%. 5) Sixteen different members (13%) drove their Corvettes on our three chapter road tour. The minimum requirement is 5%. 6) Seventy three members (59%) attended at least one chapter event during 2015. The minimum requirement is 20%. This is why I have you fill out the sign-in sheets at all the tech sessions!! 7) We set up an NCRS display at the Hastings Auto Show and nine members showed up for this event. This requirement promotes the NCRS and encourages the registration of new members. 8) Our chapter donated $200.00 to the Courage Kenny Foundation in addition to the $200.00 we raised from our members. The minimum requirement is at least $100.00 to a 501-3C charity that helps or assists people and is not linked to any political party or person. Thank you to all our members who participated in chapter events in 2015. We could not have obtained this award without your help. If you were unable to attend an event this past year, we would love for you to join us in 2016. Jerome Lardy Chapter Flight Program Administrator

As the story goes, Elko Perchyshyn’s first ride in this car was on the way to the Hospital to be born. Suffice it to say, he had many more rides until he finally was in the Drivers Seat. Thank you Elko for letting us enjoy putting your body back on your 66!

My name is Paul Burski and I have been a member of the NCRS for the past four years. I recently hosted my third tech session for the North Central Region. My first tech session was two years ago and we put a new wiring harness in my Roman Red ‘62. It was great to have around 20 guys with technical know-how to help me with this project. My second tech session was about a year ago when we dyno’d my engine at Competition Engines in Eagan, Minnesota. We had over 30 people attend that session and we all learned a lot about engines, carburetor’s and even different oils. I have been very happy with the way my engine has been running after the dyno session and would highly recommend it to anyone with a freshly rebuilt engine. After tuning the carb during the tech session, my mileage went from about 10 mpg to about 14 mpg. Since I’ve had great results hosting my previous tech sessions, I was more than happy to host yet another on February 13th. I cleaned up my garage, cranked up the heat to 65 degrees and positioned my car at a 45 degree angle in the two car side so we would have easy access to the doors and the trunk. We had 17 North Central NCRS members in attendance and 1 guest (AKA future member.) I had some weather stripping to install, new door panels and also wanted to adjust my trunk lid. I purchased the weather stripping and door panels a few years ago and never set aside enough time to install them. We had a couple of guys adjust the gaps on my trunk lid. Thanks Mark and Jim! Once the trunk was adjusted, four of us installed the trunk weather stripping. With the lid on the car, it took all four of us get it on straight without a lot of extra glue getting all over the car. To get the job done, I had to lay on my back in the truck of my car. At the same time, another group of guys worked on the door panel project. They removed my old SS trim and polished it before installing it on my new door panels. The panel project isn’t completed yet, but I will have it done before the roads clear up. If you have a project on your Corvette that you need help with, I would encourage you to host a tech session- especially if your garage is heated. You will get a lot of help and advice from your fellow NCRS members. Thank you to Bob Lund, our Tech Director, and Jerome Lardy for bringing the donuts.

On March 30, 2016 a Tech Session was held at Competition Engine in Egan, MN. A 327ci/300HP engine was Dyno'ed. This engine will go in a 1967 Corvette matched with a PowerGlide transmission. The engine was recently rebuilt by Competition Engine using a stock cam. Nine pulls were run recording technical information between 3000RPM and 5000RPM. The engine performed well with best horse power recorded at 285HP at 4900RPM, and best torque at 384 foot pounds at 3000RPM.

He will draft announcements for newsletter, website and broadcast email to member about the program. Paragon Corvette Club Rewards Program – Help your club when buying parts The North Central Chapter NCRS has an opportunity to sign up for the Paragon Club Rewards Program. Here’s how the program works. 1. Each calendar year Paragon adds up the total value of all parts purchased by participating club members (excludes labor, restorations & used parts). 2. The North Central Chapter will then receive 3% of that value in the form of either gift certificates or stocked Paragon items. 3. The club would then use these gift certificates as giveaways at club functions such as Tech and Judging sessions. 4. This program does not affect any discounts you currently enjoy with Paragon. How can each member help? Paragon needs to identify customers as being a member of the North Central Chapter in order to include their purchases in the annual calculation. The club needs to provide Paragon a list of participating club members. Participating members can either be existing Paragon customers or new customers. If you would like to participate please email Rogerpcarlson@gmail.com ASAP to get your purchases included. Bob Lund presented the board with a program to build interest and participation for the upcoming Winter Social, February 20th. Motion was made, seconded and passed for Bob to purchase four battery trickle chargers and use as an incentive drawing at the event. Attendees will not only have the opportunity to meet and socialize with other members,

have a fabulous meal, but have a shot at winning a free battery trickle charger.
