NCRS Cancels All Activities Through AUgust 6
In light of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and the evolving guidance from the CDC, federal, state, and local authorities, the NCRS Board of Directors has decided to cancel the 2020 National Convention planned for July 19-23 in French Lick, Indiana. The health and wellbeing of the NCRS membership was foremost in our mind as we made this decision. Refunds will be made to those who have already registered. This will take some time so please be patient. The French Lick Resort has already, or will shortly issue a blanket cancellation of reservations made in the NCRS room block, so there is no need for you to call the hotel to cancel your reservations. We are strongly recommending that all NCRS Chapters continue to follow CDC, federal, state, and local guidance until the coronavirus pandemic is behind us. At a minimum we suggest that you cancel any events planned between now and the end of the Convention blackout period, which would have run through August 6, 2020. Mike Ingham on behalf of the NCRS Board North Central Chapter Follows Suit Cancels All Activities Through AUgust 6 During the April North Central NCRS Board Meeting, it was decided to follow the lead of the NCRS and cancel all in-person events for the North Central Chapter through August 6, 2020. Paragon Rewards Program – 2019 Results Announced! The North Central Chapter wrapped up our fourth consecutive year in the Paragon Rewards Program earning $680.00 in rewards dollars for 2019. Since the program’s inception in 2016 the Chapter has earned over $2,000.00 in rewards dollars. All rewards dollars are returned to chapter members in the form of Paragon gift certificates at Chapter events such as tech sessions, judging schools, and chapter judging meets. The 2019 rewards dollars will again be received as Paragon gift certificates and will be used as silent auction items, and raffle items upcoming chapter events throughout the year. The chapter currently has in excess of 35 members participating in the Rewards Program. We owe a great big thank you to these 35+ members for purchasing Corvette parts from Paragon Corvette. THANK YOU!! If you’re not sure whether you are participating or would like to join those members participating just email Roger Carlson at RogerPCarlson@gmail.com. There is no need to have purchased from Paragon Corvette in the past. Every little bit helps the chapter.
On June 28, 1953, workers at a Chevrolet plant in Flint, Michigan, assemble the first Corvette, a two-seater sports car that would become an American icon. The first completed production car rolled off the assembly line two days later, one of just 300 Corvettes made that year.

Membership Update We hope this update finds you and your family staying healthy. I have taken on several garage projects since the social distancing Current Members period went into effect. I hope you have been able to work on your Corvette too. I reached out to NCRS members in our area that did not belong to our local chapter. Seven new members responded to this effort and that brings our membership up to 148. Gary Aldrich lives in Hibbing, MN and is the proud owner of a 1965 coupe. Ken Bartos resides across the St Croix River in Hudson, WI. Ken has a ’61 Corvette that he obtained in high school in the Chicago area. Ken mentioned that he met Nolan Adams at a NCRS event many years ago in Rockford, IL. Steve Boone calls Grand Forks, ND home. Mike Ciurleo lives in Saginaw, MN. Mike has a ’69 roadster that is having the engine rebuilt. I invited Mike down to our chapter judging meet to see the three ‘69’s being judged. Adam Dever resides in Bismarck, ND and owns a pair of ’66 big block Corvettes. One is a coupe and the other a convertible. I hooked up Adam with Paul Klemetson so that he has a local NCRS connection. Adam is looking for a ’67 435HP coupe if anybody knows of one for sale. Dan Horrigan lives in Savage, MN and has a ’71 project Corvette that he is starting to work on. Hopefully we can start up with the tech sessions soon. Dan Penz lives in Rochester, MN. Welcome to all of our new members. We hope to see you soon as things start to open up more and we can get back to a new normal. Be healthy and stay safe. - Jerome Lardy, North Central NCRS Membership Chair

April - Jerome Lardy
My name is Jerome Lardy and I have been an NCRS member since 2006. I joined the board in 2011 and took on the positions of Membership Chairman and Chapter Top Flight Administrator. As you can see, I had an early fascination with Corvettes. I was 10 years old when this first picture was taken in the summer of 1968 at the Third Armored Division Convention in Des Moines, IA. My sister, Yvonne, joined me for this photo. In 1981, I purchased a 1979 Silver Corvette and drove it all the way to Jasper, Alberta in the Canadian Rockies. One moment stands out while on the road from Banff to Jasper. We pulled over to stretch our legs and admire the beautiful scenery. A motor coach pulled up and all the foreign tourists got off. It did not take much time and my Corvette was surrounded with people taking pictures of themselves with my car. My sister joins me on that photo too. After about 3 months, I decided that insurance was too expensive for this vehicle, when you are a single 23 year old guy. I traded it in on a 1981 Turbo Trans Am. Guess what, my insurance did not go down. Chalk that up as a learning experience. I soon purchased a Baja I/O boat and realized the Trans Am was not a good tow vehicle so now came my truck phase. I got into hunting and fishing with many different trucks and SUV’s over the years.
In 1989, I married my wonderful wife, Doreen, and we adopted little Sarah in 1997. A cabin purchase soon followed, along with other boats, so I still needed the trucks. In 2006, I got the Corvette bug again. Doreen knew nothing about this disease that had been in remission for so long and claims it was not part the prenuptial agreement (just kidding). I started looking for a ’65 Coupe but a co-worker found an ad in the Minneapolis paper for a local ’63 Split Window. I went to look at it with another co-worker who also owned a Corvette. We determined that it was mostly original and looked nice. I then enjoyed it for a few years going to local shows like Back to the Fifties. Sarah loved going to those shows and always commented that people were mentioning it was a split window. She realized there must be something unique here.
In 2006, I had it judged for the first time and it received a 2nd Flight Award. Obviously it was not as original as I thought. After talking it over with our Tech Director Bob Lund, I decided to take on the challenge of a body-off restoration. In the fall of 2010, the project began. Thanks to the help of Bob and other chapter members at the many tech sessions I hosted, the task was completed 3 years later. It was judged again in 2013 and I received a Chapter Top Flight Award. Sarah started showing interest and helped with the restoration and now claims the ’63 for herself. She still needs to learn how to drive a four speed. In 2015, I decided to purchase a 1995 C4 Corvette with an automatic transmission so that Doreen and Sarah could drive it (Needless to say, that has only occurred a couple of times). Paul Burski knew of a low mileage C4 that one of his clients was selling so I went and took a look at it. The Corvette still had the original front tires so immediately I am thinking it could be put through NCRS judging.

After a thorough cleaning and help from John Ulrich to bring back the shine on the hood, I brought it to our fall chapter judging meet. The judges were confused. They had no idea what a C4 was. All kidding aside, we had not judged one of these in quite a while. Since then we have judged several more. It received a Top Flight Award and it went on to earn Top Flights of 97% or above at two regionals. The car also received the Performance Verification Award at our North Central Regional in 2016. The Dave Hill Mark of Excellence Award was earned at the National Convention in San Antonio, TX in 2017. We will be pursuing the Crossed Flags Award at the National Convention this year in French Lick, IN if all goes as planned. The chapter has been very helpful in assisting me on the restoration and pursuit of the awards I have sought. I appreciate that very much and I have made many new friends over these past 14 years.

But I sold the GT6 with its wire wheels and sleek handling for a convertible Bug. Ah, the open road. Then I bought my first American machine- a 1974 El Camino. But that was replaced by one dull car after another. I was in a rut. Then Mark Swanson entered the picture and asked if I wanted to join the local Corvette Club. Well, that started me thinking and we started looking, but what we saw in 1998 was so inconsistent that I bought a 1973 Triumph TR6. My wife Edrie just smiled. We kept looking, but nothing turned up. Every time I drove to a Chapter event, I got the same question. When are you going to buy a Corvette. Then in March or April of 2002, Mark Swanson said he saw an ad in the Mpls Tribune for a 1966 Roadster and that I should call. It was winter! Who buys a car in Pipestone Minnesota in the winter? Each week Mark asked- did you call? It took me three weeks to call and then another couple of more weeks to drive down and look at it. Mark had gone down with me to look and we did our homework. Once Mark said it was the car to get, I made an offer. It was a matching number ‘66 with factory air. We went back down and bought it and we found that it came with a hard top. My wife’s requirements were simple- it must be Nassau Blue. The car I bought was painted Laguna Blue, but underneath was the original color from the factory – Nassau Blue. Edrie just smiled. Thus, began my journey through a paint job, re-chroming, cleaning, replacing parts, cleaning, judging, cleaning, 2nd Flight at Chapter in 2011, Top Flight at Chapter in 2012, and Top Flight at the 2016 Regional in Rochester. All with the help of my Chapter friends. What a journey- Edrie my bride of 35 years, has been very supportive every step of the way. The boys thought it was cool and my oldest used it in his High School Graduation pics. We don’t drive it a lot, but on those nice days in Summer you can hear me fire her up and we go for a cruise. Edrie is still smiling as there is very little I can do in the way of improvements. I can’t get this tune out of my head – See the USA in a Chevrolet.
Once Upon a Corvette. I had never envisioned myself a Corvette Owner. I grew up in a family of Fords. My first auto was a 1969 VW Bug. But that was short lived, because I still wanted something sporty. When Dad would not let me buy a Camaro, he relinquished and I found myself in a Triumph GT6. And why not. I had watched all the British Spy Films and wanted to own a British Sports Car. The one I could afford was a 1968 Triumph GT6. Bright College Days. 13

June - Nick Kornder
I joined the NCRS in January of 2013. I was working with my uncle restoring a 1964 corvette coupe and had purchased some parts via Craigslist. I met Bob Lund and he turned me on to the North Central Chapter. My love of corvettes goes back to grade school, where I built dozen of models after seeing my uncle’s 1978 Silver Anniversary Corvette, which he still owns today. On May 30, 2008 my dream came true when I purchased my first Vette, a 1980 red coupe. In the years since I did an engine rebuild, switched to a 3.55 rear end and in 2017 upgraded to a 200r4 overdrive transmission. On July 21, 2012 my wife Annie and I expanded our family with the addition of our son Henry. The math did not work out as there were now three of us and only two seats in the corvette. So, the saint that my wife is, gave me the best wedding anniversary gift there could be when on August 29, 2012 she allowed us to purchase my dream corvette, a red 1969 big block convertible. In 2014, we were blessed with little Josie and we took both cars out to shows, the kids exchanging rides in the big block roadster and the other in the fully enclosed, nice and warm, coupe. In October of 2017 Maddie joined our family, and car shows don’t happen near as often, but she too enjoys a ride in either Vette. The kids don’t call them coupe or convertible, or 69 or 80, but rather, “Big Block” and “Small Block”.

Chapter Board Minutes
April 2, 2020
Board Members Present: Alden Miles, Paul Burski, Jerome Lardy, Bob Lund, Roger Carlson, Dave Murphy, Nick Kornder, Chris Enstrom, Don O’Grady Board Members Absent: Kevin Sullivan Members present: None Location: Meeting held on Skype Approval of Minutes Meeting Minutes from the March 5, 2020 meeting – Motion to approve by Roger Carlson seconded by Don O’Grady. Motion passed. Chairman’s / Vice Chairman’s / Treasurer’s Report All Deferred to Regional Discussion Judging Report Chris stated that there will be no Judging School in April. Our Spring Judging at Gilby’s was discussed with Alden suggesting, as one of the three car owners affected, that it be moved to our August Chapter Judging August 15. Chris offered to delay the Spring Judging to Sept 19 at Gilby’s. Nick asked that we focus on the National Boards guidelines to move everything until after August 6 due to the Virus. Nick moved that we follow the National Boards guidance and cancel all in-person activities until after August 6, 2020. Roger seconded. All were in favor. There followed continued discussion. Chris worked backwards from December and said that we could hold a second Chapter Judging October 3 rd . After some more discussion Chris suggested that we have our Chapter meet August 15 and include the three cars from May 9. Roger suggested we move to the end of Sept so as not to be close to the August 6 date referenced in the National Boards guidelines. Bob suggested we leave it August 15 and review again next month. Alden suggested we wait to review and decide if we want one or two Chapter Judging events this year. Regional Cancellation - Based on our motion to follow the National Boards guidelines and suspend all activities until after August 6, Chris suggested we cancel the Hotel and Arena based on the restrictions by the State of Minnesota regarding the Corona Virus. Dave offered to contact the Hotel and Arena. Chris asked if we even want to re-schedule. Chris mentioned that it would probably not be a good idea. Jerome suggested that we contact Brigham to ask that we be put into the front of the National Convention in French Lick for 2023, the same as this year. Nick asked why we would commit to a regional at this time without knowing for sure the future site of nationals. Chris agreed as there are too many unknowns at this time. Chris then felt it appropriate to ask the board if we wanted to do a Regional in the next few years. Is French Lick confirmed and are there other Regionals already near us. After some discussion, Chris will pose the question to National before we comment that we are interested prior to French Lick if we don’t have another Regional close to us. Chris will notify the Team Leaders that we are not having the Regional and they should cancel their Hotel rooms. After more discussion, Chris offered to request that National return our $500 check. Membership Report Jerome reported one new member- Sarah Lardy. We now have 141 members. The board discussed membership dues, as the majority of events have been cancelled. The Board will continue to monitor the situation and discuss during monthly board meetings. Jerome also pointed out we have a lot of items in his basement for the Regional. Should we give away to our members? There was some discussion but no resolve. Tech Report Tech Sessions cancelled per National Board guidelines. Activities Report Cowboy Jacks already cancelled. Our next social event will be at Jerome Lardy’s BBQ on August 14 at his home. October 18 th will be the fall social at Mancini’s. Website Report Nick updated the National Convention cancellation. Newsletter Report Nick will update our calendar. He will also include the cancellation of the Regional and that the National Board recommended no activities until after August 6. Nick also showed the National Convention was cancelled on our Facebook account. Member-at-Large Report Jerome Lardy is the Member of the Month for April. Old Business Alden asked Roger what he would need for refunds for the T-shirt and Polo shirt orders. Roger asked for a list of names, addresses and amount owed. The question was asked whether we planned to order the shirts anyhow, and Alden said not with the volume of orders we had and the price break points. Roger asked if the lanyards he was getting from Mecum’s Auction should be cancelled or accept and keep for next time. Alden suggested that they be cancelled. Roger also has trash can covers and a banner that were already sent. Alden asked Roger to contact the people who donated, ask them if they wanted anything back and if not, we would store the items. This same message will be shared with Mike Meirovitz. It was suggested that we go through the items we have that will be kept and determine what we want to save for our next Regional and what we want to use as give-aways to our members. New Business Paul asked that if we are allowed to drive our cars, could we do a drive and possibly stop in a park for lunch keeping our appropriate distance. By the May Board Meeting we will have learned more. Chris asked if the Board would like him to set up a Skype meeting for the May Board meeting and all agreed. Member’s Comments: No members present. Board Members Present: Alden Miles, Paul Burski, Jerome Lardy, Bob Lund, Roger Carlson, Chris Enstrom, Don O’Grady, Kevin Sullivan, Nick Kornder, Dave Murphy. Board Members Absent: None Members present: None Location: Meeting held on Skype Approval of Minutes Motion to approve minutes from the April 2, 2020 meeting – Motion to approve by Don O’Grady, seconded by Roger Carlson. Motion passed. Chairman’s Report Alden stated there was nothing to report as we are on hold due to the Corona Virus. Vice Chairman’s Report Paul had nothing new to report at this time. He did mention that he met up with Nick Kornder and Jeff Braun and they went on a cruise maintaining social distancing. Treasurer’s Report. Roger has been very busy since the last board meeting when we had to cancel our Regional Meet. He has refunded over 60 NCRS members through PayPal or by check for payments they made to us.. Roger also received back refunds for costs we incurred in planning the Regional. In the end, we are showing a loss of around $370 due to the cancelled Regional. The board was pleased as there was concern it could be higher. Judging Report Chris reported that our chapter judging meet in Long Lake, MN on August 15 is now live on the NCRS website. We have seven cars registered and Chris has cut off the entries due to the limited number of judges that have signed up so far. Please sign up as soon as possible to judge or observer judge. The Corvettes we will be judging are 58, 61, 62, 67, 69, 69 and 69. Jerome Lardy has offered to host a Judging School/BBQ the evening before on August 14. This will depend on how our area is coping with the Corona Virus at that time. Membership Report Jerome reported that we have no new members in April and we are at 141. He has just reached out to other NCRS members in our area that do not belong to our chapter. We hope this will encourage a few more people to join. Tech Report There was no tech session in April due to the pandemic. Paul is looking into possibly sending out a link to a video or two for our members to watch in place of a physical tech session. Activities Report Nick brought up a type of event that you might have seen on TV or social media. Cruises for a Cause meet at a location and then have a parade by somebodies home that needs a morale booster. It would be a way for us to use our Corvettes in a positive and helpful manner and the opportunity to drive them. October 25 th will be the fall social at Mancini’s. This was well attended this past year as we caught the snow birds before they left for the winter. Website Report Nick updated the calendar on the website showing all the events cancelled through August 5. He also added the new Member of the Month. Newsletter Report We are always looking for articles from our members. Member-at-Large Report Kevin Sullivan reported that Dave Murphy is the Member of the Month for May. Read all about him on our chapter website, www. northcentralncrs.com . Old Business Roger has received from Paragon $930 in gift certificates. The board discussed options on how to disperse them. New Business Years ago, the Membership Director maintained a database of all the members’ information. As the position evolved, the NCRS provided the database which made this task unnecessary. We used to keep track of our chapter members Corvette’s which some members found useful in case they had questions about their Corvette. They could reach out to a member with a similar vehicle. Jim Fenske has offered to resurrect this list. The board is fine with this idea but there was privacy concerns expressed by several board members so it was decided there should be an opt out provision to address that issue. The database Jim provided lists the NCRS#, Last Name, First Name, Spouses Name and Cars owned. A member could choose to not provide any information or as much information as they wanted to. Kevin Sullivan brought up the idea that we also list in our newsletter a few knowledgeable members for each Corvette generation that our members can contact if they have questions on their Corvette. This would be an ongoing item. Chris suggested that for next month’s board meeting that we try Google Duo instead of Skype. A few members were having trouble connecting for this board meeting. Gilby’s is moving to a new facility and would like us to come back to them next May for our Spring Judging. Vice Chairman’s Report Paul had nothing new to report at this time. Treasurer’s Report. Alden presented for Roger. It was reported that we had a quiet month and that we are in the black YTD. Other recommendations were passed onto Alden. Chris has reached out to have people who know these cars join us as judges. The Corvettes we will be judging are 58, 61, 62, 67 and three 69’s. Jerome Lardy has offered to host a Judging School/BBQ the evening before on August 14. This will depend on how our area is coping with the Corona Virus at that time. Membership Report Jerome reached out to the NCRS members in our area that did not belong to our chapter. Seven new members have joined our chapter bringing the membership up to 148. The new members are: Gary Aldrich, Ken Bartos, Steve Boone, Mike Ciurleo, Adam Dever, Dan Horrigan and Dan Penz. Tech Report There was no tech session in April due to the pandemic. Deadlines for articles and advertising are: March 1, June 1, September 1 and December 1 of each year.
The NCRS Judging Process The NCRS has compiled and is constantly updating highly detailed judging standards and rules for each basic model division from 1953 through 1999. The guidelines in these NCRS Technical Information Manuals are recognized throughout the hobby as THE STANDARD in determining originality. The judging system is designed to educate each owner about their car as well as providing recognition for excellence in the areas of restoration, performance, or preservation. It is not a “cleanliness contest” like other events, nor do you compete against your friends’ Corvettes. Judging is not done by some secret group of “experts”. You can learn to judge, or you can have your Corvette evaluated by other NCRS members. 10,516 members are currently recognized for their judging expertise. They have created 27,871 NCRS judging records through NCRS events internationally to date. New Item Added NCRS has recently announced the addition of an Award Confirmation Document Service. This service will provide a confirmation document with a complete listing from the NCRS database of the available award statistics for a specific Corvette. The presence of this confirmation document will assure the owner of the NCRS judging history on a Corvette.

MAKING JUDGING SHEET REFERENCES BASED ON THE C-D-C-I-F As the NCRS judging system is based on 5 different descriptions for ORIGINALITY, with each having a value of 20%, it is most helpful to the owner, that we use the same descriptions for the comments on the sheets, when we judge their cars. C = CONFIGURATION D = DATE C = COMPLETENESS i = INSTALLATION F = FINISH The use of words like “Service Replacement”, “Reproduction” or “Restoration” are very little to no help to the owner, since they do not describe WHAT the difference to original is. Since we judge the APPEARANCE of ORIGINALITY, we do not care where the particular judged part comes from (Original GM, Restoration Parts House or Neighbors Shed). BAD WORDS:
iNStEAD USE:
“Wrong”
“Not Typical”
“Incorrect”
“Not Typical”
Certain parts, which do not reflect any Originality based on the CDCIF (Full Deduction) are not listed on our Standard Deduction Sheet. Such parts may be described as: SiGNiFiCANtLy DiSSiMiLAR. A good example is the typical parts-house (AutoZone, O’Riley etc.) Cooling Fan Clutch. Judging Example: One of the most often “non-original” parts encountered on the chassis are the shock absorbers. They are a single line item and have a value of 5 points. Based on the CDCIF we can make the following determination: Configuration: Check nuances on the shock absorber body (may be different print, “Made in Mexico” etc.) Date: Check for presence of date. (Not necessary, if a non-typical configuration has been detected) Completeness: Are any factions missing?? Installation: Are the bolts, washers at their intended places and orientation (or reversed)?? Finish: Is the shock painted in a typical finish (lower bushings free of paint etc)?? Conclusion: A shock absorber with “Made In Mexico,” finished and installed in a typical manner would differ in the Configuration (1 Point) as well as the Date (1 point) since we know that a shock with such configuration was manufactured later than the car. Total deduction would be 2 points. OUR COMMENtS ON tHE SHEEt WOULD BE: Configuration (No Pliacell Script / Delco Part Number), Date Provided by Marco Hartner 19

NCRS Tech Article: 1968-76 Corvette Radio Power Plug Repair Brad Hillhouse, Author Many of us have purchased a Corvette that has previously had a non factory stereo installed that would either play cassettes or compact discs. During the restoration process of a 1968 in my shop, we wanted to install the factory Delco AM/FM Radio and replace the cut up center gauge bezel. Part of the process of installing the original Delco radio is to get power to it. Usually, the factory wiring harness and plugs have been cut and all you are left to work with is a tangled mess of speaker wires, butt connectors and wire nuts. On 1968-76 Corvette radios, the factory stereo has a 3 wire plug that connects directly to the radio: #1. Yellow = 12 volt keyed power. #2. Black = Ground. #3. Grey = 12 volt dash light. Originally, there was a black plastic plug harness that slips into the driver side of the radio making the connection for these three wires making assembly at the factory simple. During most radio change outs, this plug gets cut off and thrown away making reinstallation of the factory radio a much more difficult job. I have seen people try and use individual blue butt connectors and slide them onto the spade terminals in the radio, but this is an easy way for the wire to slip and blow a fuse or worse, cause a dead short. I have found that a very correct replacement plastic plug and wire harness with 6 inch wire leads is available from Corvette Pacifica. Part Number E14083. This harness allows you to plug directly into the factory radio and have some extra wire length to connect to whatever is left from the prior radio (hack job) installer. You can see in this particular corvette, the yellow wire had been cut and spliced to power the aftermarket stereo. I wanted to make all the connections back to factory and eliminate any potential electrical issues. First, I slid a 2 inch piece of Âź inch shrink wrap over each of the 3 new harness wires. Then I cut and stripped about 1 inch of sheath from each of the 6 wires and one by one, wound the copper wiring together creating a good tight connection. Then, I used a soldering gun, a few drops of flux and a bit of solder and made the connections to turn my 6 loose ends into 3 solid wires. Let the wires cool down a bit, wash them off and scrub them a bit to remove any flux (this can continue to corrode the wiring if not removed), then cover the connection with just a tiny bit of dielectric grease, and then slide the shrink wrap over the connection. To finish, use your heat gun to complete the job of sealing in your work. When done, you can retest your work with a 12v test light and you should have power on the yellow when you turn your key to on or accessory position. The grey wire is the backlighting and should be tied to the headlight rheostat which will dim with all the other dash lights when you rotate the headlight knob. The black wire you can check with a continuity tester and verify that it goes to ground. Plug your factory radio back in, and assuming you have your speakers and antenna hooked up correctly, you can be listening to your favorite radio station and pass your operations test for radio function! Any questions or comments can be sent to Brad Hillhouse at BradHillhouse@yahoo.com

Here is what I had to work with. Cut off 12v keyed power wire which had been spliced and tapped into several times. We need to cut this back and remove the splices so that the new connection is 100% safe and secure.
Here is a new radio plug harness that fits the three terminal connector at the factory radio. This puts the correct power, backlight power and ground to the correct locations inside the Delco factory radio.

Here you can see the 3 wire plug being installed into the radio. This one happened to still have the wiring instruction decal attached so I knew which way the plug was supposed to be installed. The factory designed these to be “idiot proof and the plug will only go into the electrical socket one direction, unless you want to really man handle and smash it in. Remember, the factory designed nearly all the wiring connections to be so that the assembly line worker could not install it backwards or to the wrong plug.

Here is another photo showing Yellow = 12v Keyed power source. Black = Ground. Grey 12v on the rheostat power from the headlight switch. In early to mid C3 Corvettes, all dash lighting wires are grey, making it easier to trace if you have a problem.
Here is the new plug with shrink wrap applied prior to the soldering of the 6 wires together. Make sure that you slide it back far enough that the heat from your soldering gun does not cause it to start to melt.

Three soldered connections that will last forever. I did not include a photo of the wires twisted together and then soldered. We can go over soldering techniques in a future Tech Article.
Now just to turn on the power and listen to the sweet sounds of a 50 year old Delco radio! This one passed Operations judging on all radio functions 100%.
Any questions about the process, please let me know Brad Hillhouse BradHillhouse@yahoo.com
