June Recap 7 day fitness @Ai_Do • 6/8/19

7 days fitness is an event where low-income families come and shop for items they need, such as vegetables, fruits, etc. for a low price. Volunteers helped buyers bag their food and cleaned up afterwards.

Park Cleanup @Quyen_Tran • 6/20/19

June 20th was our first community clean up of the year! We went around the park, picking up trash around the neighborhood. We don't necessarily need a specific clean-up day; members can start recycling or picking up any liter they find. By doing this, we can have a nice community.

Car Wash @Yousuf_Hassen • 6/30/19

The car wash was at Sonic Drive-In and ran from 10am-2pm. Officers and members of NG Key Club assisted in washing and cleaning cars for free. NG Key Club received several donations, and the event was a success.

Hunger Buster @Muhammad_Basil • 6/30/19

NG Key Club went to a packaging center in Downtown Dallas where we packaged goods (i.e. sandwiches and cookies) for children who came from a low income family or didn't have a family to support them at all. The volunteers made about 500 sandwiches and packaged them with a plastic bag containing 4 cookies in approximately 2 hours.

My New Perspective by Daryca Sok

For the past few years, Key Club has been a huge part of my life and has really helped me develop myself as a person. While working and volunteering next to my friends, I have learned a lot about myself and just how huge and interconnected our communities are. When I was younger, I never bothered to look into doing any kind of work since I believed that I wouldn’t be able to make an impact all by myself. I wasn’t sure that I could do enough to make a change, so I thought it was pointless to even try doing anything. Also, I thought it was way too much work to go out of my way to help other people that I didn’t even know. However, I admired those who put their time and effort into their work. Now that I’m older though, I have come to realize that every little —

ounce of help contributes in some way. Although a small bit of work may seem insignificant, it affects someone, somewhere. The impact of the work of Key Club members has a rippling effect in the community, and it truly helps make the world a better place. Now that I’m the Vice President of our school’s Key Club, I feel like I could help more people in my life. As a child, I wouldn’t have ever imagined I would be where I am today, and I’m proud of how far I’ve been able to come. I get to help organize volunteering events with the school, and I have the ability to learn so much more. Although I’m losing out on sleep, I think helping others by volunteering and service makes up for it. Personally, I enjoy volunteering when I can directly interact with the other people I’m helping. I feel as though I can have a direct impact on their lives, and I enjoy learning more about the people around me. Key Club has given me an opportunity to give back to my community that has raised me, and I’m happy that I’m able to help out those who need it. Both my experience in the club and all of the volunteers alongside me have shaped the way I view others and the world around me. I love the message that Key Club spreads, and I want to encourage others to help out in their community. No matter how big or small the work is, it will never go unappreciated.

Journey of “ Why I joined Key Club” by Dustin Dong

Personally, I originally joined Key Club based on the interactions among my group of friends in school. Over time with observations, it came to my mind that I had to eventually get volunteer hours, therefore, I thought of it as a chore, a tedious chore, something that I had to do forcefully knowing that time will come sooner or later. As for many people, they had the same mindset as I. The genuine reason for most people would be getting free items, graduating with a medal, or just getting something over with. Most people don’t volunteer their time to sincerely help our community. Another huge influence, I had with joining Key Club was the fact that many Upperclassmen during —

the beginning stages of high school advertised the emotional benefits as well as physical benefits of volunteering. Periodically, I thought that I could express leadership in events. It strongly occurred to me that I could make a difference in my community. After years of schooling, I could find a strong purpose in life which would help motivate me constantly in the pathway of a meaningful life. I finally felt like I was accepted for once. Essentially, this would’ve been the answer given to you at the beginning of high school since I was just getting to know myself. If given the question “Why I joined Key Club?” now, I would have an answer that has a more impactful meaning than in the past. After spending countless hours volunteering for my neighborhood, I would find the purpose of joining Key Club fully to teach others what I have learned within the club and make a stronger impact within the community among generations to come. The freshmen (now incoming sophomore) have given me a reason to continue pushing myself in the direction of improvement. Not only have they helped me develop into a better person, they taught me the importance of friendship. They may not know, but I have hope that we develop a friendship more than just a kinship. This gives me a strong reason to join clubs which includes volunteering events. As I pursue my endless career of make a difference, the answer for “Why I joined Key Club?” is always different. Overall, it always revolves around the concept of helping others in our community and making an impact considerable enough to change someone’s life. Truly, this is why I joined Key Club.
