As summer comes to a close, back to school season is finally upon us. With school comes assignment due dates, deadlines, extracurriculars, etc. And on top of all of that, as Key Club president I also have to oversee and manage my club, plan and schedule meetings, lead those meetings, find events, create sign up sheets, go to those events and lead, and much more. “How can one person keep up with all of those daunting tasks?”, a person may ask. Actually, it is quite simple; time management and mapping out your schedule will become your new best friend. Time management may seem like the most obvious and cliche answer that a person could give you to this issue, but it seriously is a skill that will save you so much time and stress. Usually, this can be done with aid from something like a planner, which can be either digital or physical. Quick disclaimer though, the methods that work for others, may not work for you and that’s okay! I suggest looking for a variety of methods to try out and using trial and error to decide which style suits you best.
LUCKENBAUGH
I personally keep a planner in something that’s called a bullet journal! I draw out a calendar for every month and update important dates as the month passes by. Not only that, but I break down every week further in something similar to a timeline in a way. In detail, I write down every event, assignment, and meeting that I may have for that week. This way, I have a visual of literally everything that I need to get done. When I’m done with a task, I can cross it off and/or write down any notes pertaining to it. It’s also important to prioritize
certain tasks over others. For example, something like studying for a big exam or finishing up a major project would most likely a Key Club event would take priority over a couple hours of sleeping in.
take priority over an extracurricular.
And in my case, a Key Club event would take priority over a couple hours of sleeping in. Dividing up your schedule and assigning priority to certain things on your to-do list will make a huge difference in how productive you can be, while also minimizing any extra stress. One other thing
I can confidently say is that taking proper breaks is also important. Overworking yourself will lead to eventual burn out, leading to an increase in stress and a decrease in overall productivity. When scheduling yourself, make sure to include ample time for rest!
For most of our members and officers, summer is the time for relaxation and escape from school. This means more of us will be out on vacations or sitting at home and enjoying the little time we have to ourselves, but there are still some of us who are hard at work to be more productive and prepared for the upcoming school year. Specifically speaking, all of our officers are working hard to fulfill the personal responsibilities of their roles while also working together as a group on larger matters that will affect the whole club. Along with our officer duties, we have also planned and attended a number of events with some of our members this summer. To begin, officers have tasks we hope to accomplish by the time school starts in order to build a foundation for the 2022-2023 members. These tasks include finishing t-shirt design, updating website/social media, planning events to attract new members, etc. The design team is responsible for a handful of these assignments, so they have been working on them throughout the summer
and occasionally asking for the board’s opinions on certain factors of their work. We have had two board meetings this summer to let us know of upcoming events and to plan said events. Since school is about to start, we are using this time to brainstorm and get everything ready to recruit new members as well as welcome returning members for the next school year.
On top of preparing the club for the approaching school year, our presidents are making sure that we have several events planned throughout the summer
more local events. Some of the local events include feeding the homeless with our sponsor and doing our annual fundraising car wash. Along with doing local events, our club chose to continue attending marathons each month despite them being big events. This is because marathons offer more hours and have higher
participation rates overall.
In conclusion, our club’s plans for the summer consist of getting our foundation ready for the school year as well as planning ahead to recruit new members. In addition to that, we have plans for more local events, such as feeding the homeless and doing a carwash, as well as sticking to doing marathon
At first, we planned to do bigger events, but after seeing little interest in them, we have decided to look into doing officers are working hard to fulfill the personal responsibilities of their roles
