r r e e t t t t e e L L s s ' ' t t n n e e d d i i s s e e r r PP The past months have been amazing. I enjoyed seeing new members participating in our events and seeing new friendships bloom. We also held our first social together! It was extremely fun seeing everyone interact with one another, and enjoying each other's company. For the month of October, there will be plenty of fun events coming up in addition to having special guests and new projects. I hope that everyone will be able to participate this month! :)

Being in Key Club, where everyone can join and have a good time is a really great way to not only earn hours but to also make new companions. Some of our best experiences is with our friends, and Key Club has played a huge role not only for me, but for every single member that has joined. I can say this for everyone, high school is not what it looks like in the movies at all, there’s no singing and dancing or montages out of the blue; it’s a scary place where you never know what to expect. This is especially scary when you’re a freshman. We’ve all been there. You try to make new friends, and it’s not that easy. This is where Key Club comes along. You see and hear announcements through the intercom or on social media about the first meeting and decide to join the club.

At first you’re wary about it, since everyone seems to know each other, but one of the upperclassmen come up to you and asks for your name. You end up getting to know each other and you have made a new friend. After making one new friend, you end up becoming more comfortable. This leads to participating in the events where you meet even more people! I know you guys have been in the same position as me when it comes to these things. It’s understandable. This is how I met most of my friends today. It’s all because I decided to join Key Club! Every year has been a memorable year with events such as Hot Chocolate Run or Hotcake Hustle. These memories include the DART rides to the events and back, not only the events themselves. Some of these events allow you to meet a variety of people with different backgrounds that you do not see everyday, which makes people intrigued and want to participate in more of these events. Every event is a memorable one, especially with the members working together and having a good time. Not only that but there is a purpose with every event that we volunteer at, either it’s helping raise money for an awareness or feeding the homeless; there is always a purpose. This purpose is what makes Key Club a great organization to participate in because not only do you get to meet new people, but in doing so you’re helping other people in your community.

WHY I VOLUN TEER

When I first heard that students had to obtain volunteer hours, I had immediately groaned and dreaded the thought of it. Volunteering seemed like a load of work, and I deemed it as a chore rather than activities that benefited the community. It was just another obstacle before graduating high school. But I had decided to bite my tongue and joined Key Club freshman year. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Today, volunteering at events is the aspect of school that I look forward to the most. Now that I am a sophomore and have experienced plenty of events my first year, I can now claim that I am a proud member of Key Club. I had initially only joined Key Club because my friends and I wanted to be in a club together.

It was meant to be easy opportunities to get volunteer hours done and over with. But as I attended more and more events, my love for volunteering started to grow more and more. My friends and I would have so much fun and make the best memories. My friends and I would have so much fun and make the best memories. We would all dread waking up so early in the morning and be so hysterical waiting for the train. We would have our own party at the event, helping what we could, and at the end of the day, fall asleep on each other our ride back home. These were the days where we could forget about the stressful workload awaiting us at home and return to being little kids who just wanted to live life and have fun without any worry for the world around us. I am truly blessed to have been born in a century where memories can be captured and encrypted forever.

The ability to look back at the photos and rewatch the snapchat stories is a treasure that I cherish. Volunteering has given me another purpose outside of just being a student. I enjoy feeling useful since I do nothing but focus on work all week. I am able to help my community as a fellow citizen of this world and make a difference, even if it’s just a small dent. Volunteering has also become an escape for me. During school weeks, I am constantly working trying to get ahead of my assignments, so that I don’t fall behind. I try to be proactive, and it leaves no time for myself. I am cooped up in my room all day, trying to get things done, and it can become very suffocating. Volunteering has served as an outlet, allowing me to get away from my desk and go out. I am able to enjoy just one day every other week or so, and then return to my regular routine. I volunteer, not just for my community but also, for myself.
