Unlocking the Future WRITTEN BY DANIEL NGUYEN

With the worst of the Covid-19 pandemic largely behind us, the future is looking brighter, both for the world and the future of our club. That being said, I anticipate that we as a board have one major goal to accomplish this 2021-22 school year: securing the future of Key Club at North Garland High School by way of example.

satisfaction in hard work and volunteering, so that, when this school year ends, our chapter in this story may end but a new one will begin. When it does, I hope that our chapter may serve as a stepping stone for another interesting and rich chapter to come.

As most of our current board is composed of seniors as well as a large portion of our club, there is a worry about the future of our club. This year will be a critical moment for our club’s future. When all the seniors leave, it can either end in devastation for the club or the club may very well be able to continue on as one of the best clubs at North Garland High School. If I were to choose, I’d say I’d rather choose the latter. It wouldn’t go well with me if our year were not to leave a legacy for the future to follow and learn from, especially at such a critical time.

Season after season, the deciduous trees change the color of their leaves, yet they are still at their core a sturdy testament to the beauty of life. Year after year, the faces of our club may change, but at our core, we are still a club of leadership, of character building, of caring, of inclusiveness, and of great friends and great memories.

However, the question remains: how do we ensure we pass the torch down as bright and flickering with life as it is to the next generation of North Garland Key Club? My answer to that is through making this 2021-22 school year a great year. If we can show the younger generation what it means to be Key Club, we have done our job to guarantee the future. What exactly does a great year entail? It means creating fun memories for our members, both old and especially the new. We anticipate broadening our membership base to underclassmen. We anticipate finding, diversifying, and documenting our events and experiences. We anticipate fun times, laughs, and

Waiting For An Outcome WRITTEN BY AMY NGUYEN

All events I attend, every meeting, everything that we do in key club, inspires me to keep going. Waking up really early, feeling grumpy and gloomy, getting ready, and leaving the house. Stepping into a new experience, doing what we do, it makes all the negativity go away. I always feel like I never have time to do anything, but when we’re all together, it feels like time is slowing down, not racing back to what we usually do, but what now is becoming a time in history. There are moments in life where time just makes things slip away, and others stick with our conscience until the end of time. I remember going to Trusted World and spending time with members of the key club, but I don't remember what we talked about or what things I specifically saw. I wish to remember, the question that runs through my mind when I can’t recall anything is “Why was I so happy that day?”. Juggling things in my current life, and being a part of a club seems all so stressful. Being a part of too many things could make stress worse, right? Not exactly, it releases my stress and makes me happy when the school year cannot. Loads and loads of work come my way, but then an event pops up and it feels like an outlet for my worries. The thing that I learned from key club, which may not be entirely tied to it, is that you shouldn't rush, you should take a step back, analyze, and then take that step forward. It has taught me patience, and to look on the bright side. Rushing into things and worrying every second makes a person feel overwhelmed, and may cause a breakdown. It can hurt a person because many sources of stress just feels like you can’t take a minute to take a breath. Collaborating with key club has

made me realize that you don’t need to rush, you can take a second to breathe. With made me realize that you don’t need to rush, you can take a second to breathe. With patience, it makes perfection, and with that, it makes things a bit easier. Like putting cans and bags of food into a box, making sure every corner has something filled with, stacking it nicely for the person receiving it to see how much care it had been put into it. Or sorting clothes, making sure they go in the right pile so the outcome would be that it would go to the right kid that wears the right size. They would have something nice and comfortable to wear because you went the extra mile. Everything we do in our club, it feels like we have a “cause” then a “effect”. The “effect” part makes someone’s day, and that just makes the whole situation put a smile on my face, and on theirs. You may not be able to see it, but it's there. That is what I have learned, lots and lots of patience. watingforanoutcome.jpg
