Public Relations 08

written by Ai Do

Within the club, there are many positions, and one of those positions is public relations which is what I’m in charge of. Generally, officers' duties are leading events, taking care of the group when volunteering, , and answer members’ questions. My job might sound fun as it is, but there are always challenges waiting for me along the way. As a public relations, my job is to put members’ ideas into an event such as a social or something similar to a party. Mainly, I plan out an event, think about all kinds of creative ways to make our members enjoy their time, and at the same time relax at the club’s social. One positive thing about my job is I get to communicate with our members and knowing them more as I socialize with them during the social. At the same time, I learn how to improve the event better such as more fun activities and entertainment for our members to enjoy the social. Another thing is that not only do I get to talk to our members but for the club's officers to know each other more and our members to interact with the officers. Lastly, the best part of my job is to see everyone enjoying their time and relax with their friends and the officers.

My duty as a public relations may sound simple and easy as said above, but there are always two sides to everything. My job is fun and enjoyable but to plan out an event is tough. Organizing a social takes a lot of time to put things together. Usually, researching what activities we should do, think of ways that our members will be interested in attending, and how everyone can enjoy the social consume a lot of time. Sometimes, the social is being pushed back due to everyone is busy. Often, I have to rearrange the social to make it flexible for everyone. All in all, I’m still learning my job as a public relations of the club. Commonly, everything has a downside to it. My duty as a public relations is fun and at the same time it’s challenging. My job requires lots of outside research to give our members their best time in club aside from volunteering. Even though there are difficulties in my job, I still love what I do and push through the hard times for the sake of the club.

Keying Wisdom

written by Judy Pham, secretary

Key Club has definitely taught me a few skills and made me become more aware of my surroundings and wonderful members. My role as the Key Club secretary has helped me manage my time wisely as I have to make sure reports and attendance sheets are turned in on time. I have also learned to become more organized so that I can find files and documents easier when it comes time to turning in reports. Since being a secretary requires a lot of writing and typing, I have become better at being detailed and expressive with my work. I started progressing over the months and it is now less difficult for me to write about things. I have been given many opportunities while being involved in Key Club. My mind has become open to new experiences and knowledge. When volunteering, I get to go to places I’ve never been before, whether it is for food pantries or different marathons. Volunteering at food pantries has opened my eyes and made me appreciate all of the privileges I have. There is always someone more unfortunate than us and it is important to be able to give back and help as much as possible. This world cannot run without volunteers who are willing to take the time out of their day to do something good for others. Before Key Club, I did not know how food pantries or homeless shelters worked. I didn’t have much knowledge on how people could help the homeless, other than just donating money and such. However, I have

now been through the process of making food, donating clothes, and volunteering at homeless shelters. I have come to realize that a lot of places actually need the help of volunteers because it takes a lot to make something successful.

A tradition that has started in Key Club is that we are doing more and more socials, whether it is for the holidays or just a regular day after school. It is important as officers to get to know your members and make them feel as comfortable as possible. This year, we have had much more socials than last and it goes well every time. I am starting to become more social and breaking out of my bubble in order to have fun with the members. It feels as if our club has become way more closer and is like a family. I learned that Key Club may be the only thing that some members have to look forward to so it is important to make fun memories and enjoy each other’s presence.Key Club has definitely taught me a few skills and made me become more aware of my surroundings and wonderful members.
