CHRIS VO Hello Key Club! Even though there may not be as many in-person volunteer events like there have been in previous years, there are still many virtual opportunities to participate in that we are providing! So don't be afraid about not reaching your hour requirement because trust me, we won't let that happen. Please continue to work hard and stay on top of your game!
IVY NGUYEN I hope that you're enjoying your intermission week so far! Now would be a great time to do a few of our events to earn hours. Remember that MST are still required to earn hours. We'll be trying our best to release as much as we can, so I hope that you are also willing to give them a try.
Can't make it to our meetings? Don't worry! After every meeting, we will post a makeup form. Just fill it out and you can earn credit for the meeting you missed. Remember! You must attend at least 8 meetings to begin earning hour credits. Meetings are every two weeks.
Membership Membership forms are out! Membership fee is $15 and due October 30th. Pay via Paypal, Venmo, or to Mr. Blakley.
All information is available on our Discord and Remind!

PUTTING THE KEY IN KEY CLUB Earlier this year, as more and more clubs and extracurricular activities finally began their launch, I found myself pondering how Key Club remained so influential and beloved among the student body despite the availability of other volunteer services. After much deliberation, I finally found closure to my question as I realized, the main appeal of Key Club lies within our core values and attitude, being hospitable toward all our members, remaining open minded, and aiding to foster social interaction and relationships built among the club members. I came to realize that the North Garland Key Club effectively acts as a light of positivity in the lives’ of the members and teaches valuable life skills. Like in our club name, Key Club teaches key values, such as volunteer service, moral ethics, and social responsibility, all of which values proving useful in real life settings and producing high functioning members of our new generation. As I like to say it, when

members initially join, they are like locks, reserved, shy, and guarded, but as time goes by, we, as officers, help and guide the members to be more open, to meet new people, and become morally better as we host volunteer service events; we act as the key to unlocking the potential of our members. In doing this, Key Club pushes members to their fullest capabilities, acting as a moral compass. In addition, Key Club comes with the benefit of interacting with new people, engaging in volunteer activities, and it allows the members to become more aware and involved in social injustices. Especially now during the pandemic, social interaction is scarce, but Key Club allows for new people to meet, and many of these newer members bond with one another over their want to do good and love toward volunteer services. In addition, when talking to the members, many have told me they feel a new sense of purpose as they aid those in need during this difficult time, giving them the drive

and initiative to engage in more volunteer services. By doing acts of kindness, the members often become more sympathetic and understanding of those in in unfortunate situations. Key club comes with many benefits and life long messages. All in all, Key Club remains so influential as the staff and officers remain kind toward all members, pushing them in
a positive way to reach their fullest potential and providing benefits such as increased social interaction and awareness. Key Club and staff, such as officers and sponsors are the key to unlocking the fullest capabilities of the members.

WORKING WITH MYSELF Being an editor for Key Club is no easy feat. Along my journey, I have learned many new things about design, Key Club, and myself. When I was first recruited, I had no idea of the responsibilities that awaited me, but I quickly learned that it takes a lot of creativity, organization, and patience to fulfill my duty. For an editing position, it’s quite obvious that you need creativity to accomplish your goals. Although a foundation in web design would be helpful, I’d say that creativity is the most important quality to possess. Creativity won’t only help you simply create cool designs, but it can also help you problem-solve and adapt to situations. It’s easy for others to look at this role and think little of it as it is just simply “design”. However, for Key Club (or any other project for that matter), there will be restrictions and rules that editors have to work with. You’ll need creativity to be able to adapt to these conditions and still be able to create something appealing. I do admit that many others are more

qualified for this position as I’m not the most creative person out there, however I believe that I work hard enough to make up for my losses. When I first joined, I didn’t foresee exactly how much organization this role needed. All I knew was that I had to make monthly newsletters and the occasional flyer. Sounds easy, right? Not exactly. I quickly learned that layouts and designs for newsletters and flyers took especially long, because I never seem to be satisfied with my work. Although a newsletter, in theory, should take about a week, I have to plan ahead and brainstorm ideas as soon as I was done with the last newsletter. Last year when I was first recruited, I had a lot of trouble balancing Key Club and schoolwork, but this year, I’ve found a much better balance and have basically meshed both activities into one, so that neither one is any less of a priority. It’s also sometimes difficult to construct something that you and others will be satisfied with. As a perfectionist, I’ve also found that it

takes a lot of patience to work with myself. I’ve run into many obstacles and creative blocks where only insight could help me out. This has often frustrated me as I wish my creativity was in full works 24/7, but I have learned that feeling this way won’t help me find an easier solution; it’ll only pull me down. It’s quite easy for editors, and other positions, to become discouraged when they’ve hit a problem that they just can’t seem to solve, but it’s
important to continue believing in our abilities and working to find a different route. Without this position, I wouldn’t have learned so much and I am truly grateful to have been found. I will continue to work hard and help Key Club grow. I am very excited for what’s to come.
