DANIEL NGUYEN Hello, I hope that all of you are doing great! With school in full gear, I imagine times are tougher than ever, but remember that we are adaptive. As a faceto-face learner myself, I have seen how hard people both face-to-face and virtual are trying to make the best of their situation. Whether it can be chatting with friends through communication platforms or just simply attending class, I am amazed at the tenacity we are capable of. Though this is a short message, I have but one of many advice: make good choices. Have fun!

ANGELA LIANTHONG Hello my fellow Key Clubbers! It's finally spooky season. The weather is getting colder, meaning there'll be even more people out there who'll require some assistance, so please be open to donating your time and effort to them. We're trying out best to provide everyone with virtual volunteering opportunities, so please make sure to check those out when you have time. Additionally, we're going to try incorporating some in-person events for those who prefer getting out there, however, everyone's safety is our #1 priority. The officers will be very cautious about the events we choose and ensure that safety procedures, such as wearing a mask and maintaining at least a 6-feet distance, are strictly followed. Remember to dress warmly, stay safe, and get yor hours.

Membership forms are out! Membership fee is $15 and due November 30th. Pay via Paypal, Venmo, or to Mr. Blakley. All information is available on our Discord and Remind! NOTE THAT THE DUE DATE HAS CHANGED.

Sock Drive Thank you

I wanted to give a personal thanks to anyone who donated socks. Despite these hard times, any small act of kindness goes a long way. Together as a family, we raised over 50 socks for the homeless. Paired along with the impact from the Garland Kiwanis, we assisted over 100 families to stay warm as the winter comes. Thank you!

I joined Key Club as a wide eyed freshman amazed at the sea of people sitting in the cafeteria and attending the first meeting. I joined Key Club out of interest and curiosity, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t also view it as a method by which to satisfy my community service hours requirement. As I listened to the officers talk, my heart groaned internally as I realized I had to earn 50 hours of service in just one year, an amount greater than I had ever done before. Still, I decided to give Key Club a chance and do my best to earn as many hours as I could. The first event I ever attended was volunteering at the Perot Museum where I got to help run an exhibition where an electronic robot was rotated around to interact with people and answer their questions. From then I went to many events as member in the past 3 years and some of the highlights have been the frosty mornings of the Hot Chocolate Run, the warm glow of the OurCalling Shelter, and all the

donation drives in which I’ve had the pleasure of meeting new people and exploring new locations I’ve never seen before in downtown Dallas. Through these experiences, I’ve learned to adapt to changing environments and to care for people other than myself. From the blur of festivals, athletic events, and food drives I’ve attended, I’ve interacted with numerous people and environments that have taught me how to expand my own viewpoint to respect others’ beliefs and opinions and how to adapt quickly in those environments when we had to switch tasks or cross multiple streets of traffic just to get to an event. These moments have taught me how to be more confident and open in talking to people of different backgrounds and personalities and how to be ready for the unexpected, no matter what situation I find myself in. On a deeper level, this organization has taught me how to put others’ needs before my own.

Whether it was sacrificing an hour of sleep on Saturday morning, standing in the freezing cold, or navigating DART stations and unknown streets to help out at the homeless shelter or another event, Key Club has shown me how to sacrifice my own personal desires and selfish needs for the betterment of helping others. The club has really highlighted to

me the meaning of service: that’s it not just helping others when it’s convenient for yourself, but putting others’ needs first even if it comes at the cost of your own time or wants. For me, being a Key club member means being a part of the community and serving others as you learn more about yourself and grow as a person through the experiences.

It's a new year and a new fresh start. North Garland High School Key Club is making adjustments for the new year due to many unexpected circumstances. The way we deliver our service is never like before, and these changes are to remind our community and members to stay safe! Officers are trying their best to keep in touch with members in the virtual world, and modifications we made are the hour requirements, meetings, new platforms for members and officers to socialize and bond, and the way we give service. Every year, the organization requires its members to complete a total of 50 hours of volunteering to become an official member of Key Club. But due to the pandemic and for everyone's safety, we’ve adjusted the hour requirements to 20 hours. Along with service hours, we have altered the way we give our service to all online! Helping out others not only happens in person but also online. With the pandemic this year, North Garland High School Key Club offers a variety of .

opportunities for our members to give service and earn service hours at home virtually. To elevated officers and members bonding and socializing, we have created another platform called Discord for our members to stay connected and be more active or comfortable with the Key Club Family. Although we have added another platform to communicate with our members, other platforms such as Remind and Instagram are still available to members who can't access Discord. Usually, our general meetings are held after school in the cafeteria, but with pandemics, more Key Club members are virtual students. We've decided to move our general meeting time back an hour for members who are face to face students to attend our meetings. For the rest of the year, North Garland High School Key Club will host all general meetings online. Overall, during this hard time, North Garland High School Key Club has made lots of changes to make sure everyone is included and proposes possible solutions to keep our members connected while staying safe.

02 OUT OF 02

Although we made lots of changes for the new year, the joy of volunteering will never change, whether giving out your service from home or in person. North Garland High School Key Club offers lots of online volunteering service opportunities, and we as officers will try our best to make the best out of everything for this year as we will give out

opportunities for our members to develop leadership, character building, caring, and inclusiveness. Everything is different from every other year, and this year is challenging, but officers will stay connected to our members and make sure everyone is involved as much as possible.
