ROBERT HAWTHORN KITSON (1873-1947) ARTIST, PATRON, EXILE
Robert Hawthorn Kitson provides an exotic link between dark, smoky Leeds where he was brought up, the brilliant Mediterranean landscape of Sicily where he created a fabulous house and garden and spent much of his life, and the colourful imagined world of the artist Frank Brangwyn who was his friend and colleague. obert Kitson was born into the wealthy and immensely successful Kitson engineering family. James Kitson, founder of the firm, was his grandfather, and James Kitson II, later Lord Airedale, his uncle. His father, John Hawthorn Kitson, like most of the men in the family, was one of the directors of the great locomotive works, whose engines were exported across the world. He and his wife Jessie lived initially close to town, in Hyde Terrace, but when Robert was four the family moved to leafy Headingley, to Cardigan House in Cardigan Road, a turreted mansion newly built over the grounds of the old Zoological and Botanical Gardens – the house is still there, its spacious shaded garden a reminder of the past. There they lived until 1886 when Robert’s father inherited Elmet Hall in Roundhay. Robert’s parents were often away and he and his two sisters shared memories of brutal nannies, who even drugged him with opium to keep him quiet. But he grew into a strikingly handsome and talented young man, gaining a first in Natural Sciences at Cambridge. He followed the expected route into the firm, but his heart was not in it. He was a gifted amateur artist, and studied under several wellknown artists – art was his passion. Plagued by poor health, he longed to escape Leeds for a warmer climate, and he felt stifled by the restrictions of English society, with its rabid homophobia. A visit to Sicily opened up the entrancing prospect of another series of murals in the dining room kind of life. He was stunned by the and design all the furniture. Brangwyn beauty of Taormina, and found there began work in 1910 and created a a community which would welcome fabulous room which people flocked him. When his father died in 1899 he to see and admire. inherited enough money to move there, Meanwhile Robert did not forget and he began to build the house of his Leeds: he commissioned Brangwyn to dreams, high on a rock above the town, decorate the apse of the newly-built set in a magical terraced garden. He St Aidan’s church in Roundhay Road, called it Casa Cuseni, and filled it with Leeds, where Robert’s brother-in-law precious objects. He asked his friend, was vicar. Brangwyn began painting the artist Frank Brangwyn, to paint a the central panel but became worried
about the effects on paint of the dirty, smoky Leeds air. In 1913 he suggested using mosaic instead – durable, but expensive and highly skilled work. After long negotiations this was agreed and a London firm was found to execute the work to Brangwyn’s designs, using a team of specially recruited craftspeople. The mosaics were completed in 1916. Costs had soared but Robert Kitson had faith and went on funding the project. Thanks to his generosity these magnificent mosaics are part of the city’s heritage today. He also donated work by Brangwyn to the City Art Gallery and to the University. Robert lived on in Casa Cuseni until he was forced to leave in World War II when Sicily became a battleground. Amazingly the house, with the Brangwyn dining room, survived occupation by three sets of troops. He returned as soon as he could in 1946 but died a year later in his beloved home. He left the house to his niece, who kept it going as an exclusive guesthouse, a haven for writers and artists. After her death it was sold, but is run now as a luxury B & B, its historic and artistic features preserved. Robert’s many sketchbooks and papers were returned to his native Leeds and are now in the University’s Brotherton Library Special Collections, his delicate watercolour sketches a reminder of that other sunlit world which so enchanted him. eeds Grand Theatre is set to welcome a classic comedy at the end of August when Robert Powell and Liza Goddard take to the stage in Alan Ayckbourn’s ‘Relatively Speaking’. Greg only met Ginny a month ago but has already made up his mind that she’s the girl for him. When she tells him that she’s going to visit her parents, he decides this is the moment to ask her father for his daughter’s hand. Discovering a scribbled address, he follows her to Buckinghamshire where he finds Philip and Sheila enjoying a peaceful Sunday morning breakfast in the garden, but the only thing is – they’re not Ginny’s parents. Beautifully crafted, wonderfully funny and charmingly English, Relatively Speaking was Ayckbourn’s first great
West End success and turned him into a household name. When the show opened at the Duke of York Theatre in 1967, the critics hailed the arrival of a great new comic talent. “We’re delighted to welcome two great stars in one great production,” says Ian Sime, General Manager at Leeds Grand Theatre. “Post-holidays, an evening of comedy is just what we all need.” Relatively Speaking is at The Grand Theatre from Tuesday 30th August – Saturday 3rd September. Tickets (£19.50 – £36) are available from 0844 848 2700 or online at leedsgrandtheatre.com

West Yorkshire Playhouse’s Autumn/Winter programme is packed with variety, exciting, ambitious performance, and something for everyone. he season culminates with a major production and UK première of ‘Strictly Ballroom The Musical’ (30 Nov - 21 Jan), inspired by Baz Luhrmann’s iconic film, which will thrill audiences over the Christmas period. On the bicentenary of Charlotte’s birth, The Brontë Season explores the works of Yorkshire’s literary sisters from a 21st century perspective. ‘Villette’ (24 Sep – 15 Oct) is reimagined by Yorkshire writer Linda Marshall-Griffiths in a striking new adaptation of Charlotte’s ground-breaking novel, remaining true to its unique insights into loneliness, yearning and the redemptive power of love. Plus, the romantic masterpiece ‘Wuthering Heights’ (6 - 10 Sept), will be brought to life by Northern Ballet, choreographed by David Nixon OBE. ‘Wasted’ (20 Oct – 22 Oct) is an exclusive work-in-progress performance of an electrifying new musical. This contemporary reclamation of the Brontës as visionary creators of shocking genius presents ‘The kids from Haworth’ as you’ve never seen them before. Mark Thomas: The Red Shed (2 – 4 Nov) recreates the legendary Wakefield Labour Social Club in its 50th year; Anthony Shaffer’s Tony Awardwinning thriller ‘Sleuth’ (28 Sept – 15) twists and turns onto the Quarry stage; and ‘Furnace: Festival 2016’ (27 Sept – 8 Oct) showcases new work that has been developed or supported by West Yorkshire Playhouse, during which a total of 20 new projects at all stages of development will be shared for the first time.
Twenty new projects at all stages of development will be shared for the first time in Furness
With the première staging of ‘Anniversary’ (14 – 17 Sept) a community ensemble of people over 60 are paired with older artists from renowned
contemporary dance companies in a boundary-breaking show challenging stereotypes about age. For younger audiences, there’s the seasonal favorite Rudolph (Nov- 31 Dec), and a company of actor-musicians bring Roald Dahl’s terrifically terrifying story ‘The Witches’ to life (2 Dec - 21 Jan) as a Christmas treat. There are also some great one-offs such as Simon Mayo and Mark Kermode - The Movie Doctors (6 Nov) offering a unique blend of movie trivia, opinion and bickering from the BBC’s go-to experts on all things film. And, Jon Ronson’s Psychopath Night (7 -8 Nov) sees the author recounting the funny, terrifying and compelling adventure that led to his best-selling book The Psychopath Test. Nestled down Church Lane in Adel, next to Adel Church, is the Adel War Memorial Association (AWMA). The original buildings were built in 1928 as a tribute to those who served in the Great War, with the associated land (donated by the Tetley family), for recreational use by local people. Today, the AWMA includes Adel Sports and Social Club (ASSC) a thriving community of over 1,400 people of all ages involved in various sports and activities. These include archery (Bowman of Adel), badminton, Crown Green bowling, tennis (5 courts), squash (2 newly refurbished courts), snooker (3 newly covered tables), Lacrosse men’s and ladies’ teams; plus larger sections of cricket (5 senior and 8 junior teams), Leeds Adel Hockey club (5 men’s, 5 ladies’ & various junior teams for both boys and girls) playing

Adel & Wharfedale Ward Recycling Polystyrene I have been asked whether there are any facilities for recycling polystyrene in the Leeds area. The Waste Services Officer informed me that you cannot recycle polystyrene in your green recycling bin. It is a problem to recycle – it’s very light but takes up a lot of space and is often contaminated with food or drink. It is not cost-effective to collect, transport and recycle as this would use more energy than would be saved by recycling. He advises to put it in your black bin or take it to a recycling site for disposal.

They take into consideration the loudness and impact of the noise, the duration of the disturbance, the time of day, what is considered normal for the area, the nature and frequency, and the number of people affected. Sensitivity to noise is also important and is based on the average person as we all have different tolerance levels. Rotary Donation Helps Leeds Flood Victims Rotary District 1040 Yorkshire Flood Appeal was launched early this year and raised over £100,000. It recently donated £5,000 to the social enterprise Seagulls on Kirkstall Road.
Yorkshire More is a social enterprise that produces a range of jams and chutneys. It was set up to provide people with mental health issues with an opportunity for social interaction to help improve overall wellbeing and raise funds for charity. orkshire More volunteers, most of whom suffer from mental health problems either directly or indirectly, are involved in the whole process of creating the products, from cooking the jams and chutneys at weekly sessions, to labelling the jars, and selling the final product. They find the experience incredibly rewarding, improving their confidence and social skills, particularly when interacting with customers and getting positive feedback. All Yorkshire More products are vegan and the current range includes onion chutney, piccalilli, coriander chutney, tomato & apple chutney,
chilli jam, and apple & plum jam. They are always working on new product lines and all ingredients are sourced locally. Over the past year Yorkshire More products have been sold at charity events and coffee mornings and they had a stall at the BBC Good Food Show in Harrogate. It’s still early days and all proceeds from sales are reinvested back into the enterprise. As Yorkshire More grows it plans to donate profits to mental health charities like Leeds Mind. For more information visit www. yorkshiremore.com
Seagulls was badly affected by the Boxing Day floods when the River Aire burst its banks following 36 hours of torrential rain, affecting many small businesses. Seagulls’ main stock room and mosaic workshop were under a metre of water and the paint store saw about 60cm of water. Seagulls was formed in 2003 to protect the environment by saving leftover paint from landfill, whilst offering tangible social benefits to the community. Their cheap, reusable paint has improved numerous houses locally, and their volunteer programme employs marginalised young people without a support network, those experiencing mental health issues or with learning disabilities, ex-offenders and the long term unemployed. Seagulls also runs a Community Arts workshop ‘Mosaic’ and regularly undertakes mosaic projects with local schools and housing associations and provides weekly workshops for people with mental health problems. Whilst there were many hands helping with the clean-up, enabling the enterprise to reopen the store within a few weeks, the mosaic workshop and stock room had to be completely gutted. “Rotary is delighted to support such a worthwhile project”, said Keith Harbage, President of the Rotary Club of Leeds. “Seagulls not only helps with environmental protection, but assists the disadvantaged in so many ways within the city of Leeds. “

he Leeds Fund launches £50,000 cash giveaway to support community activity across the city Charities and community groups are set to benefit as The Leeds Fund opens its first grant giving programme. #GiveLoveLeeds Grants will provide financial grants of between £500 £2,500 to support community activity across the city. The scheme will focus on smaller community organisations with an annual turnover below £150,000. At least two grants rounds will be held each year, with the themes changing in response to emerging needs. Managed by Leeds Community Foundation (LCF), The Leeds Fund, backed by TV presenter Gabby Logan, got off to a great start with donations
from Anchor Partners, John Lewis Leeds, and other local businesses. It aims to raise and distribute a minimum of £500,000 each year from 2020. This round will prioritise practical projects with tangible outcomes working towards skills enhancement, social inclusion, or being better neighbours in Leeds inner city wards. “Smaller community organisations often struggle to secure funding and, with continued government cuts, are at risk of closure”, said Sally-Anne Greenfield, LCF Chief Executive. “The #GiveLoveLeeds Grants will help these smaller projects continue to reach parts of the community that other organisations just can’t, tackling difficult issues and having incredibly positive
impacts. We hope the announcement of this scheme will encourage other companies to get involved with The Leeds Fund and help us gain further investment into the Fund to ensure we can continue to distribute these grants year on year.” #GiveLoveLeeds Grants are open for applications until Friday 12th August. August is the time when most UK birds have finished breeding. Adults of resident species begin to moult into their winter plumage and lie low. Whilst they are in this vulnerable state, their young start to disperse away from the breeding grounds. For migratory species, it is a time to come together in preparation for the long journey ahead. Swallows, for example, will gather on overhead wires in large noisy lines. The first birds to set off will be non-breeders, followed by early breeders, including many
species of wading bird. A visit to almost any body of water at this time can be rewarded with a sight of birds such as ruff, godwits, redshank and sandpipers, many still in their beautiful summer plumage, stopping off

A wonderful month for harvesting flowers, fruit and vegetables
Do you grow Sweet Peas or Nigella or any other flowers for cutting?
Colour for the house! Do you grow Sweet Peas or Nigella or any other flowers for cutting? It’s great to be able to bring a little bit of the garden indoors to enjoy. Apart from the delightful scents and pretty colours, you can also have the enjoyment of knowing that your flowers have not clocked up any miles, used any fuel or had any impact on our environment on their way to the vase. Of the many gorgeous flowers you can grow for arranging most need to be picked often to keep the blooms coming. Allow some to create seed if you want to save a little to sow next year.
Keeping things going Picking some food crops also helps to stimulate the production of more – just like it does with some flowers. Courgettes and cucumbers will produce more fruits if you keep harvesting, otherwise you will get one or two huge fruits per plant. Peas and beans also benefit from regular picking. By this stage in the Summer, annual flower and vegetable plants have been growing for some months and may well be flagging a bit if they have used up the nutrients in the soil. Feeding regularly will really help. Use a high potash food such as a brand of ‘Tomato Feed’ or homemade Comfrey ‘Tea’ for things like peppers, cucumbers, courgettes, and tomatoes.
Fresh growth in the borders If hard working perennials in the borders, like the trusty long-flowering Geranium ‘Johnson’s Blue’, have finished flowering and are looking a bit jaded, it may be time to give them a hard cut back and a feed so that they generate fresh new growth. Don’t forget to keep staking the later flowering plants in your garden as they grow.
If it’s hot… It’s essential to keep everything well watered in dry weather – and make sure your birdbath is topped up!

Europe’s biggest free Black Music Festival returns to Potternewton Park on Sunday 28th August and it’s going to be awesome! his year’s line-up is packed with artists representing the diverse range of genres and prolific talent in black music today. The festival kicks off with four local unsigned artists. These emerging acts were handpicked following local auditions and have been working in collaboration with local band Royal Blood to perfect their performances ready to smash the main stage. They will be followed by reggae royalty with performances from: Kabaka Pyramid (recently featured on BBC1 Xtra’s David Rodigan show), Macka B, Ras Fidel and the Harbingers, Rev Chunky Butt Funky, Sylvia Teller, Janine Dyer, and flying in fresh from Jamaica internationally acclaimed dancehall star [BABY] CHAM.
As well as the three stages packed with diverse talent, there will be an abundance of stalls selling locally produced goods from your favourite home cooked food, to their famous rum punch. “This is an excellent opportunity for communities across Leeds to come together and have a family day out”, said Heather Nelson, CEO of Black Health Initiative, the charity running the Festival. “Each year we are diversifying the acts and extending our reach to make sure that all genres of music of black origin have a place at BMF. REVIEW
THE NEON DEMON DIRECTED BY: NICHOLAS WINDING REFN STARRING: ELLE FANNING, JENA MALONE, KARL GLUSMAN, BELLA HEATHCOTE, KEANU REEVES
CERT: 18 RUNNING TIME: 118 MINS ell, this is cer t ainly one for the Nicholas Winding Refn fans. If there truly is such a thing. Those he gained with the well-received ‘Drive’ he surely lost just as swiftly with the almost universally loathed ‘Only God Forgives’. ‘The Neon Demon’ leaves me with the feeling that Winding Refn makes films that are to be admired rather than enjoyed, much less loved. While I can fully appreciate and respect his considerable talents as a filmmaker, I’m not sure I’ll be rushing out to his next release. After the South East Asian sojourn of ‘Only God Forgives’, ‘The Neon Demon’ finds the director back on US soil and once again taking Los Angeles as his urban muse for an increasingly disturbing journey through the world of fashion modelling. The story of a young ingénue arriving in LA only for the city to chew her up and spit her out is a tale as old as the (Hollywood) hills and here it is played out to absurd, grotesque and literal extremes. Elle Fanning, looking barely pubescent and constantly in danger of being whisked away by a stiff breeze, plays Jesse, the wide-eyed naïf in question whose experience in the fashion
Winding Refn works wonders with colour and light, the film is exceptionally photographed throughout
world ranges from beatific to phobic to Sapphic to, ultimately, horrific, vampiric and cannibalistic. Jesse’s beginnings as a model create shockwaves wherever she goes; she’s a Triple Threat with extreme youth, beauty and an infinitesimal waistline, a perfect storm of modelling gold. Her potential is immediately recognised by the industry but also, unfortunately, by her more experienced rivals who fear they’ll soon be losing work to the newcomer. The sense that the town and the business will eat Jesse alive sets in early; no one seems capable of looking at her anything less than ravenously. I imagine that Nicholas Winding Refn has had the charge of style over substance levelled at him more than once and so a film set in the world of fashion and beauty seems a natural fit. While watching The Neon Demon one is vaguely aware of underlying themes such as the virulent strains of narcissism, voyeurism and misogyny that permeate the world it portrays as well as the industry’s perverse fixation on, and fetishisation of youth. However,
if the film addresses these issues it is merely with a sense of “well, yeah, obviously” and no further attempt to unpack or reckon with them. This arms-length relationship to the subject matter is in keeping with the tone of cool detachment that is the director’s signature style but, again, it leads one to wonder if there really is anything of substance beneath the surface sheen. In this case, though, that might be the point. I have no problem with films that don’t necessarily prioritise character and plot and The Neon Demon wastes precious little time on such trifles, perhaps asking to be assessed as purely an aesthetic exercise. Indeed, as an audio-visual experience it is truly striking; Winding Refn works wonders with colour and light, the film is exceptionally photographed throughout and the director utilises the skills of regular musical collaborator Cliff Martinez whose brooding, Elecroinfused ‘Dark Disco’ brings about the perfect fusion of sound and image. So, while very impressive on those levels, the film does suffer from the lack of any kind of emotional centre or empathetic focal point and after being dazzled by cinematography and soundtrack that really would seem more at home in the context of a music video promo, the only feeling one emerges with is one of revulsion.

nspired by the last Olympic Games and Nicola Adams, Leeds 17 boxer Reece Cartwright was driven to pursue his own career. Now, following a well-attended event at New Dock Hall in June, Reece is Leeds’ first professional IBF youth middleweight world champion.
Photo: Adrian Forrest Photography
Leeds is on a bit of a boxing surge at the moment with the rise of Josh Warrington and IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook, who are both filling arenas around Yorkshire on a regular basis. Reece has been quietly learning his trade on the low key under cards around the country and building up a following of enthusiastic supporters.
With the help of promoter Dennis Hobson, promoter/manager Rebecca Margel, and Manchester trainer Joe Pennington of Northside Boxing Gym, Reece’s progress has been steaming ahead. At the event in June he decisively outboxed Finland’s Henri Kekalainen despite having a chest infection. Kekalainen was in the fight right until the last round, taking Reece the full ten rounds for the first time in his career. He threw multiple punch combinations and body shots slowing his opponent down and commanding the fight with intelligence and continuous quick jabs which stopped Kekalainen getting back into the fight. Reece did slow down in the eighth round, however a stern talking to in his corner brought him back to focus for the last two rounds. Reece is now looking forward to defending the IBF title in November.
heels 4 Fun, a new cycling group for adults with physical disability has started at Meanwood Valley Urban Farm. An Open Day was held in June where potential participants were able to try out tandems and tricycles with the help of volunteers and instructors and rode along the traffic free cycle path that passes through the farm. Tea and cakes followed – a vital part of any cycling group and which will definitely be included in Wheels 4 Fun’s future activities! Wheels 4 Fun was the idea of Trish Cunnison, a physiotherapist currently on a career break from her job at Leeds Community Healthcare, where she helps with people with neurological conditions. She is supported by Sarah Radcliffe, another neurological physiotherapist with a love of cycling and Allan Luxton, an experienced cycle campaigner, leader and trainer. All three are enthusiastic cyclists keen to help others enjoy cycling as they do.
The group has been set up with support from Cycling UK. Three tandems have been donated by Open Country, a Harrogate based charity, and Resurrection Bikes are providing a tricycle. Volunteers to act as riding companions and helpers would be very welcome. For further information about participating or volunteering, please contact 0113 269 5028 or trishcunnison@gmail.com

A 100-strong National Children’s Orchestra (NCO) will perform at Leeds Town Hall on Saturday 13th August. All aged 13 or younger, these young musicians will have spent just over a week rehearsing together at Sedbergh School in Cumbria, before their performance in Leeds – which is guaranteed to delight and inspire audiences.
Adel Primary’s Great Global Gang Children in Years 3 and 4 at Adel Primary School have been learning about children’s rights in Leeds and around the world through Leeds DEC’s Global Gang after school clubs.
They have also learnt about the importance of looking after our world
he programme features a variety of classical pieces, including Saint-Saëns spine tingling ‘Danse Macabre, Strauss Jnr’s ‘Overture to Die Fledermaus’ and Borodin’s ‘In the Steppes of Central Asia’. Founded in 1978, the National Children’s Orchestras has performed at some of the world’s most prestigious venues, including the Royal Albert
Hall in London and the Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing. Its performances are renowned for their intensity, vivacity and commitment – but above all for their professionalism. The concert is on Saturday 13th August, 7pm at Leeds Town Hall. Tickets range from £5 - £22 and are available from 0113 376 0318 or www. leedstownhall.co.uk
The five week programme is funded by Leeds City Council’s Outer North West Youth Activity Fund and supports Leeds’ aspiration to be a Child Friendly City. Activities have included learning how Fairtrade enables children to access their right to education and food through learning about Fairtrade honey (and making brilliant bee badges!) They have also learnt about the importance of looking after our world and have up-cycled juice cartons to create funky wallets and even rabbits! Another five week programme will start in September. do - there are so many choices. here are just a few to get you started...
Bramley Baths is transforming into Bramley Beach to bring families and friends together for adventurous fun in lovely warm water. The Bramley Baths garden is a great place to help yourself to free fruit and veg or to enjoy a post-swim picnic, and there are fewer seagulls vying for your sandwich! So pack up your beach towel, and head along with children of all ages for swimming, beach parties, Mermaid classes (for boys and girls) and Stay & Play holiday club where little adventurers aged 8+ can run off some holiday energy under the watchful eye of coaches while parents take a breather.
Bramley Baths is determined to keep everyone safe around water, so book in for adult/child swimming lessons to learn or improve together ready for your summer holidays; or take part in free Community CPR sessions. And, on Friday nights at Bramley Beach, once children are in bed, parents can treat themselves to a pamper session – a well-earned massage, swim and steam. A break at Bramley Beach could be just the tonic everyone needs. For the full timetable visit www.bramleybaths. com. visit the climbing lab The Climbing Lab in Kirkstall is the latest addition to the Leeds climbing scene and has some great activities over the holidays. There are extra weekend sessions for children and at least two children’s taster sessions a week that cater for both complete beginners, through to experienced climbers. Experienced 14-17 year old climbers can bring along an inexperienced parent to their ‘parent and child induction’ (check availability). It’s a great opportunity to give it a try and costs just £20 for up to three people (parent & 2 children or child & 2 parents). Climbing Lab also offers half price inductions for 14-17 year olds who want to register at The Lab and be able to climb unsupervised. Children under three climb free with a paying adult, and under 18s climb for £5. Its also half price for adults when climbing with an under 18, and there’s 20% off adult inductions before 4pm.

‘in your face’ at national media museum, bradford What does a face say about a person? How do people change their faces? Do different people see faces in different ways? The National Media Museum’s free Summer family exhibition In Your Face (23 July – 30 October) asks these questions and many more as it explores the most photographed, and expressive part of the human body through more than 20 different exhibits, activities and experiments. Using a range of fun challenges, interactive demonstrations, 3D displays, portraits from the Museum’s national collections and art projects from around the world, In Your Face is a pick-and-mix adventure that invites you to think about how you see the world… and how the world sees you. “This will be a fascinating and fun event for families”, said John O’Shea senior exhibitions manager. “We’re including the greatest number of interactive displays, activities and experiments we’ve ever featured in a summer exhibition, alongside live demonstrations, challenges and, of course, opportunities for selfies!” Activities include creating a facial profile using the latest police technology, trying out facial decoration, and learning
about special effects make-up from the Museum’s Hammer Films collection. www.nationalmediamuseum.org.uk/inyourface

Cloudy2Clear Windows – Service With A Smile! ADVERTISEMENT
It’s been a crazy few months for Cloudy2Clear Windows. The company which specialises in repairing windows which are steamed up, broken or damaged by replacing the panes – not the frames has grown rapidly as homeowners take advantage of their services. Manager Joel Skinner feels that it’s all about service. ‘Our product is simple. If your double glazing is misted up we can replace the glass at a fraction of the cost of a new window, in any type of frame, and with a new 5 year guarantee. But it’s not just about saving people money, although that obviously helps.
Many tradespeople have struggled since last year and I honestly feel that during the good times a minority perhaps didn’t focus on customer care as much as they should have done. We make sure we turn up when we say we will, do the job the customer requires and leave their house as clean as a whistle. I often get comments back from customers on how they really didn’t expect that sort of service which, in a way, is very sad for the service industry as a whole.’ Cloudy2Clear service the Adel, Bramhope, Cookridge, Horsforth, Headingley, Meanwood, Weetwood & West Park areas and Joel is finding
that his approach is a major factor in his success.‘The truth is that it’s not just the personal satisfaction that I get from doing a good job but also it makes good business sense. I get a huge amount of business from friends and family of people I’ve
done work for, which just goes to show how much a little bit of effort is appreciated.’ So, if your windows are steamed up, broken or damaged give Joel a call for a free quotation on 0800 61 21 118 and he’ll be happy to help!
