Plenty to chew on when Origin takes the stage Kamloops fans hungry for the heaviest of metal will get the chance to experience the insanity that is a live Origin performance. The band is bringing their signature brand of technical death metal savagery to River City for a journey into bedlam in support of their beast of a new album, Omnipresent. This is their sixth full length recording and they are trekking across North America for their first headlining tour, All Things Dead. In the metal universe, Origin’s raw music is considered genius in its composition and execution, and is recognized for uber-fast, aggressively shifting beats, grinding vocals and sweeping guitar arpeggios. If Origin’s extremity alone isn’t enough for die-hard brutalists, the group brings along a diversity of nonstop aural support from some good, solid acts that ‘bring it’ live. Hard thrashers King’s Parrot from Melbourne, Montreal’s tech-death wizards Beyond Creation, Your Chance to Die and Calgary’s Hell Born Death Engines will all shred for your guilty enjoyment before Origin finishes you off. This high velocity line-up of death metal will be hard at work slaying sentient beings on Sunday, August 24 at the Dirty Jersey, located at 1200-8th Street on the North Shore. Doors open at 7:00pm. The local fan base rarely gets
to see technical death metal giants like this perform at a Kamloops venue and local production company Grimthirst Productions has been working their butt off to bring some brutal tech death to the masses and make this happen. “We want to see massive support from the metal community for this show, says organizer Charlee Pelton. They want fans to remember it as the show of the summer. “It’s going to be close and intimate in a small venue that fans will enjoy.” Earn your metal points and take
stock of the mega merchandise available to purchase while the heads are lashing and the volume is blasting. Take another trip to the burning realms of metal on September 6 when Grimthirst Productions brings another evening of musical mayhem to the Dirty Jersey. Heavy thrash metal group Titans Eve from Vancouver will join a host of local acts including Murdertribe, influenced by Black Label Society, folk artists Lost in the Woods, experimental, improvisa-
tional jazz noise duo Jagged and, after six years in the making, local tattoo artist from Pirate Palace Tattoos, Roadkill Riley, will bring untold riches and pleasures with the release of his industrial experimental cd, “Citizen”. Summon and soothe the savage beast with the sweet lullabies of all things dead in a live setting. Hardcore fans of the style will not be disappointed. Don’t miss out. Tickets for these shows are on sale at the door. See you in the pit! Jody Tippett

Community input for Tournament Capital Ranch In 2011, the City significantly enhanced the Tournament Capital Ranch lands north of Kamloops when it constructed the slo-pitch and rugby fields and partnered with the Provincial Government for the remediation of the soil to return it to agricultural production status. Today, the City is considering future land uses as Phase 2 of the Tournament Capital Ranch project commences. The City’s Agriculture Area Plan identifies using a portion of the Tournament Capital Ranch lands to create an “Agricultural Centre of Excellence” to support sustainable farming. As it considers these future land uses, the City invites feedback from residents. Some of the proposed uses include, but are not limited to an agricultural trade show and
event facility, multi-purpose exhibition centre (not limited to agriculture), agricultural production area, destination water park and public trail along the North Thompson River including a park/picnic area. “This is an exciting time for the City of Kamloops. The Tournament Capital Ranch is well on its way to becoming a signature tourist attraction - highlighting recreation, sport, agriculture and business opportunities,” commented Councillor Nelly Dever. The City wants to hear from you. City Council will be making its decision in the next few months on how the remaining Tournament Capital Ranch lands will be used. Council wants to ensure any community member who is interested has an opportunity to be informed
and to provide input on what is being proposed and to offer additional ideas for future land uses. Your input will help form Council’s decision and the City’s application to the Agricultural Land Commission
to approve the proposed land uses. A community survey will be available in hard copy at the Farmers Market and on-line at kamloops. ca/tcr to provide your thoughts and ideas.

Building bridges of trust in the workplace Building and restoring trust is mission-critical for success in today’s world. At the core of an effective and productive team lies an abundance of mutual trust and respect, based upon authentic and accountable connections. Creating an environment based upon authenticity and accountability starts with the individual. In order to inspire trust, you must be trustworthy, that is, you have to be viewed as a person of high integrity. We have the greatest impact on our environment through our daily behaviour. Our lives then become our greatest imprint on the world. Interior Community Services, Kamloops Immigrant Services and the ASK Wellness Society have come together to
present a one day seminar on September 29 about building trust in the workplace. Facilitated by Jim Reger, this unique program focuses on assisting individuals to develop their personal leadership capacity – by helping them learn tangible techniques for increasing their effective-
ness in their workplace and in their lives. Participants will leave with practical insights and tools that will enable them to build powerful, effective and trusting organizations. This event is open to all who wish to attend. Ticket prices will assist with covering part of the expenses.
Kamloops Immigrant Services, 448 Tranquille Road Registration will commence at 8:30 am, a catered lunch by Art We Are and networking happens at noon and the day will wrap-up at 4:00pm. Email Cheryl@askwellness.ca or call 778-2208900 for tickets.

increasingly, from individuals. Support goes directly toward annual operating costs for their programs and services. This outdoor fundraising event begins at 5:00pm. Attendees are advised to wear appropriate footwear and to be ready for any type of weather. This is a grazing event and those that would like to sit should bring their own chair. Kiss me, I’m a talking frog A guy was walking beside a pond when a frog jumped out and told him that she was really a beautiful princess and if he were to kiss her, she would make him very happy! He picked up the frog and put it into his pocket. A few minutes later, the frog poked her head out and said, “Didn’t you hear me?! I’m a beautiful princess and if you kiss me I will stay with you and do anything you want!” The guy took the frog out and said, “Look, I understand what you are saying, but I am a computer programmer and right now I don’t have time for a girlfriend, but a talking frog is really, really cool!”

Traveler numbers continue to rise at airport Kamloops Airport announced the traveler numbers for the month of July and year-to-date as compared to the same period in the previ-

Canadian Home Builders’ Association Central Interior (CHBA CI) and partner Thompson Rivers University (TRU) School of Trades and Technology announced the start of the 2015 Training House Project. This year’s house is being built in Juniper West. This unique project, now in its 25th year, is especially beneficial to the first year residential construction, and electrical program students at TRU as a “hands on” building experience. The students do the foundation, framing and rough in work, then the home is finished with the generous support of CHBA CI members. For the last 19 years, the finished home has been sold to the Kamloops YMCA/YWCA for their Dream Home Lottery fund raiser. The 2015 Training House will be a two-storey three bedroom home with an unfinished basement, approximately 1,500 sq. ft. on the main floor. Designed by Danielle Fauteux of Home Design by Danielle, the home is being built as a Built Green home. The house style is refreshingly modern and positioned well to profile new products and systems to the general public and new home purchasers. Due to the nature of the project, it features the latest innovative product and designs for those thinking of building a new home or even renovating extensively their current home. CHBA Cl will profile the building steps on Facebook and Twitter, giving followers an unusual snapshot of the residential building process. both tourism visitors and the “visiting friends and relatives” groups to our community. The increase in aircraft activity is related to wildfire operations. Visitors to the airport will notice two construction sites. At the entrance business area is the new Executive Flight Center fuel and service facility. This addition will
strengthen the position of the airport with competitive fuel prices and customer service for charter and corporate flight operations. Near the Air Operations building is a new parking lot under construction to provide an additional 74 stalls. This work will free up 80 stalls for the public in the main parking lot.
