Kamloops proclaims Eating Disorder Awareness Week
The City of Kamloops has proclaimed February 1 to 7 as Eating Disorder Awareness Week and the Sagebrush Theatre will be joining venues across the province in the third annual #Purple4PEDAW event hosted by the Provincial Eating Disorders Awareness (PEDAW) campaign. #Purple4PEDAW is a day designed to bring awareness to
eating disorders. On February 5, members of the public are invited to wear purple, take photos of themselves and of any BC landmarks and share on the campaign’s Facebook bit.ly/Purple4PEDAW2016 and Twitter (@loveourbodies) pages. Take the challenge to unplug How much time do you spend connected to your smart phone, tablet or computer? That’s the question Interior Savings is posing to local businesses while challenging them to unplug. The Unplug Challenge is to bring awareness to Interior Savings Unplug and Play Family Literacy Week from January 23 to 30. It is a week of activities promoting the balance of technology use with family and friend time, creative pursuits, recreation and connection to nature. As presenting sponsor of the Week, Interior Savings’ CEO Kathy Conway says the Credit Union is getting behind this event because of the powerful and important
message it carries for communities. “As a local credit union, our success is closely tied to the health and vitality of the communities we serve,” said Kathy Conway, CEO of Interior Savings. “The purpose of the challenge is to get everyone, not just families, thinking and talking about the positive impacts that come from unplugging. Our communities are much stronger when we take the time to connect and interact in person.” Interior Savings has rolled out an Unplug Challenge to their staff and is inviting local businesses to join them in unplugging. However, Conway cautions with a smile, “It’s not for the faint of heart.”

Interior Savings Unplug and Play Family Literacy Week The partners of Literacy in Kamloops (LinK) and others are currently celebrating and encouraging families to play and learn together through Interior Savings Unplug and Play Family Literacy Week. The community is invited to enjoy the many free, fun events and activities including: Teen Night: Life-sized Candyland at North Kamloops Library on Wednesday, January 27 at 6:30 pm; Parenting in a Digital Age at Henry Grube Education Centre on Thursday, January 28 at 6:30 pm; and Senior’s Tea at North Kamloops Library on Friday, Janyuary 29 at 1:00 pm. More than 5000 young students will try to reduce their recreational screen-time by taking the Interior Savings Unplug and Play School Challenge. Youth and adults are encouraged to try the digital detox too, because it’s tough for our children to unplug when we, as adults, are plugged in! For a full schedule of events, check out www.literacyinkamloops.ca or visit any Interior Savings Branch in Kamloops.

Out of gas Sister Mary was truly a religious woman. Besides for her duties as a nun, she was also very active in various hospitals visiting sick patients and taking care of all their needs. So it was no surprise that one day when she ran out of gas, the only container she could find to put the gas into was a bedpan. Sister Mary happily walked two blocks to the closest gas station filled up the bedpan with
gas and headed back to her car. Luck would have it that as Sister Mary started tipping the gas into the fuel tank, the traffic light turned red and she had quite a large audience witnessing the spectacle. Just when she finished pouring in the last drops of gas a fellow opened up his window and hollered, “I swear! If that car starts I’m becoming a religious man!”

Two morons stand on a cliff with their arms outstretched. One has some budgies lined up on each arm, the other has parrots lined up on his arms. After a couple of minutes, they both leap off the cliff and fall to the ground. Laying next to each other in intensive care at the hospital, one moron says to the other, “I don’t think much of this budgie jumping.” The other moron replies, “Yeah, I’m not too keen on this paragliding either.”

echo stargazer Dear Aquarius: (Jan. 21 - Feb. 19) A quiet flirtation leads to a secret romantic interlude. Could this be the love you’re looking for? Before you go public with your new romance, take some time to figure out if this is what you really want. You have the time to get it right. Dear Pisces: (Feb. 20 - Mar. 20) Rewards continue to inspire your partner but if you’re single how’s that going to brighten your day? An extra push in the department of love will bring you closer than a passive smile. Reach out and show love that you deserve the best. Dear Aries: (Mar. 21 - April 20) An office romance begins to bloom as more than just the boss’s notice your hard work. In fact everywhere you go you’ll meet people you know leaving you with a feeling that you’re somehow on display. Needless to say, dress to impress and be your best. Dear Taurus: (Apr. 21 - May 21) Love is right at your fingertips but it feels a million miles away. You’re in a playful and loving mood that’s rubbing off on everyone you meet. Make the most of this energy and figure out a way to bring love closer to home. Dear Gemini: (May 22 - June 21) Home is where the heart is so spend some time sprucing up the place to better reflect who you are and where you’re going. Shared finances takes centre stage and joint projects begin to blossom. Team up for your best success. Dear Cancer: (June 22 - July 22) If you’re looking for love or money then speak up. You’re lucky in both and your words are being heard. I know you’re more of a nonverbal communicator but sometimes words are necessary to get what your heart really desires. Dear Leo: (July 23 - Aug 22) Money is on the mind as it continues to roll in. Find a way to make it part of your daily routine so that it comes to you instead of chasing after your rewards. Say yes when a close friend asks for a hand. Dear Virgo: (Aug. 23 - Sept. 23) It’s time to think about yourself and your own needs for a change. Events have had you going the extra mile for others but you really should be taking care of yourself first. Take a step back if things overheat at home. Dear Libra (Sept. 24 - Oct. 23) It’s a nostalgic low energy week where recharging your batteries might lead to the adventure you’ve been looking for. Love is waiting at home but luck is favouring a visit from someone from your past. Reach out and seek the advice of an old friend. Dear Scorpio: (Oct. 24 - Nov. 22) Focus on yourself and your own needs. You’ve gone more than halfway for the team but you’re still the star and you have to shine as well. You’re entering a cycle where your words will get you what you want. Love is waiting out and about. Dear Sagittarius: (Nov. 23 -Dec. 21) Watch your health as emotional overload can lead to physical problems. On the plus side, money is looking very good. You’re not necessarily in line for a promotion at work but a surprise bonus might land right on your desk. Dear Capricorn: (Dec. 22 - Jan. 20) It’s been a while since you’ve had this amount of positive attention. Yes, the group is still grouchy but if you watch your words and temper your ego then you’ll be surprised to find people changing their minds to follow your lead. Confidence leads to flirting winks.
